Crypt of Decay - connected zones

Connection to Plane of Disease is listed as a two-way connection. I don't believe there is a connection to Plane of Disease from here, as the zone-out leads back to Tranquility. Additionally, can anyone shed any light on how this connects to Plane of Time B, either unidirectionally or bidirectionally?

Hello,

It is January 2016 - I am a returning player from many years ago - now a lvl 90 heroic mage - and for fun I have decided to go through the PoP progression since I never finished it back in the day. I want to see how far I can get on my own. While it may not be necessary these days I am trying to get all of the flags I am missing. I have just killed Terris Thule and Grummus, and now have been spending time in the Crypt of Decay with the goal of killing Bertoxxulous.

I've seen posts that Bert is on a 3 day timer with a 12 hour variance. I have also seen posts which seem to indicate that he needs to be spawned via an event.

So my question is, do I need to spawn him or do I need to just wait until he spawns on his own? I already have access to the lower crypt which has been entirely empty - no mobs whatsoever - whenever I check.

Also, when Bert does spawn, where exactly does he hang out? Does he stay in one spot or does he wander around?

Thanks in advance.

Sarab,
Hope you are still playing. WTG in POP, it has the least prepared Sear in the Galaxy. Be nice if DBG fixed that, probably not possible without an entire rewrite of the zone.

As I figured, I ended up figuring this out before anyone answered.

So Carprin is not just for the key to the lower level, but also needed to start the event that eventually spawns Bertoxxulous.

After killing Carprin in the CoD upper area additional named mobs start spawning in the areas behind where Carprin spawns. After killing all of them I headed down to CoDb (the lower crypt) where Summoner's of Bertoxxulous spawn in each of the large rooms with a circle on the floor. They spawn groups of mobs which sometimes include the various "Adan" mobs. I'm not sure if there is any order to this. I started following a map I found that shows an ordered path, but I don't know if you really need to kill them in any particular order. I basically just circled the zone clearing each of those rooms over and over until each Adan mob had spawned and been killed. Then Bert spawned in the middle room where you enter CoDb.

Bert was light blue to me at level 90. Killing him maybe took 5 minutes (if that). I didn't bother nuking him until he was below 50%. My pet seemed to handle him just fine with minor help from my healer merc maybe. My pet's health never dropped more than 1-2%. Once Bert died the Planar Projection then spawned and I hailed him. I received a message stating that I had received a "checklist flag" rather than a character flag. What concerns me is that when I check with Seer Mal Nae`Shi in PoK she isn't saying anything different to indicate that I have killed Bert. Not sure what to think of that as of yet.

Is this zone bugged for the hotzone aug? I was hunting there with my SK and cleared most of it several times over with no drop. From talking to other folks, they haven't seen it in a while either. Can anyone confirm if this is still dropping?

Dropped from about the second or third mob at zone-in, this time. Last time I did it, I slaughtered a ton of undead.

I think it makes a difference as to which mobs you're killing. I've had so many drop off of the undead, that the bodies start to become a nuisance. I'd say I easily get at least 1 drop to about 15 kills

Dropped a couple weeks ago for me off one of the lower level mobs near the entrance. Can't remember if it was one of the puslings or a bubonian rat.

I killed about 30 of the mobs at the zone in before getting the aug, so guess it takes awhile. Maybe the further you go in, the higher the drop rate?

This is apparently a hot zone, but is it possible to solo here at 62, or even 60? I'd like to bring my necro here and see how he fares, but if its more trouble than its worth then I'll just stay in veksar or something else.

It's cramped quarters, not sure how you'll do with a necro. I'm able to solo as a 70 cleric with a tank merc though.

Hey,

Thanks for asking and it was far from a stupid question as all the reply's indicate. I tried at 51, was told 53 so leveled my 2 druids to 53 no go. Now thanks to your question I see I need 2 more levels on them.

When you first zone in to the CoD you are also very near the zone out. There is an orange tinted rock off to your right. If you click on that rock you will zone back into the Plane of Tranq.

I am not sure where you zone in when you get to the zone from Disease. The zone out rock is in the same room as the throne that you click on to take you to Bertox.

The entrance mobs (puslings) are live, but from the stairs to the back of the upper level it's all undead. Mostly all snarable, rootable, undead slowable.

The priests are healers with a fair amount of mana for lots of heals so kill em quick.

Fairly low agro range.

Morrgue 75 Necro.

The mobs at the zone-in/out are are 60-ish (dblue to red, for my level 58). They hit ridculously hard for what's probably considered yard trash for the zone, though (500+ per hit, on my NEC). Have a slower and a healer in the group with a good tank, and fill up the rest with DPS and you have a great place for experience, and it doesn't seem to be very used at all (I've never seen anyone shout for a group there, that's for sure).

Lower depths access.
# May 13 2004 at 11:02 AM Rating: Excellent
Access to lower depth: Carprin encounter.
First of all, the encounter produces a total of 36 keys. Keep that in mind.
Do not even try complete heal rotation. Spam quick heals on all named mobs in this cycle.

The trigger mob is Carprin Deatharn. He can be tracked from zone-in. Standard kill tactic: a monk aggroes Carprin and FDs. When aggroed, Carprin spawns 3 guards. Those can be pulled to zone-in and killed.
Then, pull Carprin. Hits for ~1600, procs a 3500hp lifetap, slowable. Have chanters chain-rune the MT.

You have roughly 3 hours to finish the event once Carprin is dead.

Move deeper in, clearing the mobs. Next named is Ahvi Escron. Before getting to him, have the raid rid of all weaker pets (chanter, druid, SK, shaman). DC pets are ok. Do not use pet swarms, do not use GoD wards, do not summon any temporary pets. And absolutely no FD. While Ahvi is aggroed, anything dying or FDing will spawn 4 lvl 60+ skeletons, and this can quickly get out of control. Ahvi is permarooted, so you can pull mobs out of his room, and debuff him before engaging. He hits for about 1700, and I believe he is slowable. Straight melee. Make sure you watch enrage, and have melee/pets pull out at ~11%. If people start dying and raid wipes to skeletons, you'll need to wait for about 20-30 minutes for skellies to depop.

Next named is Bishop Toluwon. He is real easy. Also straight melee, hits for about 1800. Permarooted. Pull the mobs around him, then engage. He is in a small alcove, you want to make sure your whole raid is in the alcove when he drops - or you might catch aggro from the next mobs, and it'll be bad.

Here comes hard part. Two wandering guards spawn and wander around: Vindor Mawnil and Raex Pwodil. It is best to wait for them to path apart, and then pull one to Ahvi's room and fight him there.

Mawnil hits in 1800s, procs a 5000hp lifetap and flurries. You want all healers to spam MT with quick heals and chanters to chain runes. Get DI on MT, and refresh if needed. Not slowable.

Raex is tougher - also hits in 1800s and has 5000hp lifetap, but he rampages. If rampage is not contained, he'll eat the raid very quickly. Assign a ramp tank to tag him on inc, and have healers assigned to spam ramp tank with fast heals.

Last mob, High Priest Ultor Szanvon, is easy. Also 1800hits/unslowable, but no flurry, rampage or lifetap. Permarooted, so you can debuff him before engaging.

Once Ultor is dead, a small pusling named Tarkil Adan spawns. He will hang around for about an hour - or until he gives out 36 keys. Do not hail him if you already have the key, and do not hail him twice. Also, when hailing, you need to be real close to him, not invis and not FD. Make sure you get a reply and a 'character flag' message. Verify by typing '/key' - look for the line that says: 'Key to the lower depths of Lxanvom'
RE: Lower depths access.
# Aug 21 2005 at 11:31 AM Rating: Default
Had many Clerics in my Raid, so we did what you did, but had 3 clerics chain healing and we had Druids healing everyone else.

We ended up having 2 tanks tank the main mobs, it was quite good, if one tank went down #2 engaged quick.

I think our raid took 3-5 hours from what it felt like, worst raiding I've had to do ever lol, it takes long and at one point we're in this room, and it has MANY mobs in it, so you've got to clear them out before getting to the boss, so we end up having to clear them, then people ress/med up, then all the mobs Repop!!! lol, all in all, bad raid, but need the flag.
RE: Lower depths access.
# Jul 05 2004 at 2:38 AM Rating: Decent
Does that mean 36 people will be enough to complete this flag? It looks pretty hard for 36 people in my opinion.

Entry to COD
# Nov 03 2003 at 3:42 AM Rating: Excellent
I suspect you all know this by now but you can just wander into COD now. Well, I went to join a group there anyway and didnt have any flag.

As always in a high level zone a slower and a mezzer are mandatory ! Fantastic experience at level 56 but quite scary despite being one second away from the zone out !

The zone out is next to the zone in (Its a pile of stones) for those who like me find such information reassuring.

Can you multiquest the flesh items?
Entire group!!!
# Apr 09 2003 at 12:39 PM Rating: Decent
If someone collects all 4 flesh, do not go alone, bring a full group with you. When one group member completes the quest, he will receive the item - but everyone in group will get a key on their keyring granting the access. We keyed two full groups of people that way yesterday.

This is NOT the same as Grummus flag. That one, I believe, is needed later on to progress through the planes overall storyline. Most likely needed to get to Bertox himself. But this thing grants you ability to hunt in the zone, and get mucho exp and cool loot. Good luck.
Alternate way in
# Jan 02 2003 at 4:36 PM Rating: Excellent
For any of you guys that want to enter this zone but don`t have the power to kill Grummus, you can do a quest that will grant you access. First you need to kill 4 larva`s in POD. They are a Scaevian Larva, Harrion Larva, Generian Larva and a Sengian Larva. These are 55+ mobs but do not summon or cast and have around 14kish hps. Loot the flesh off 4 larva`s and hand to the named orge that wanders POD and you will recieve

Bangle Of Disease Warding
Magic Item Lore Item No Drop
Required Lvl of 55
ac7
Effect:Resist Disease(cast time instant)
wt.3
Class:None
Race:None

Once you recieve this item you can enter COD by entering the cave above POD enterance in POT. Hope this helps for anyone looking for some info.

Have a full raid 48-60 kill Grummus in PoDisease.
After Grummus dies. A Planer (spectre) appears for around 12 minutes ( enough time to do some resses) Hail the Planer and you will receive a flag ( you may need to get the first flag from the Paladin outside the PoD zone entry)
You then go to one of the sick Elders in the building near the PoN zone and hail him (sorry cant recall the name) You receive another flag.
This flag allows you into the Crypt of Decay located just above the PoD zone in a cave.
If you hail the Paladin near the PoD zone in again he mentions that Berti (deity i cant spell) is accesable from a movable pipe in the room Grummus spawned in.. (lol may mean you will need to either kill Grummus each time ot sacrifice a few pullers if you want to attack Berti)

Best to my knowlege Berti is yet undefeated.
Also the drops from Grummus on Karana 11/9 were the Sheild and the ring.
Big congratulations to the AA alliance. This was a wonderful accomplishment for us. Grummus makes Cazic and Inny seem like Yard trash.

pff bah!

He is not a paladin.

"If you hail the Paladin near the PoD zone in again he mentions that Berti (deity i cant spell) is accesable from a movable pipe in the room Grummus spawned in.. "

The moveable pipe opens up a pit in the floor that you can zone into COD after you have killed Grummus.
