Nektulos Forest

Located in the northeastern portion of Antonica, this thick forest serves as the Dark Elven gateway to Norrath. Dark Elven guards and dragoons roam the high-traffic paths in what seems to be a futile attempt to keep it clean of trouble.

A group of halfling druids, agressive to their dark elven counterparts, have developed a few encampments here. Their reasons are unknown; perhaps they wish to one day take over Neriak. Also established in this forest is the Deathfist Clan, as they slowly make their way northward from the Commonlands.

A stream juts through the forest and leads to the newly discovered Depths of Darkhollow, the final resting place of Gnomish Expedition 328. Corathus Creep, the fungus-ridden area beneath Nektulos can be reached through the western edge of the water.

Over the years, the forest greenery has been worn down, forming a pathway running north to south. At the southern tip are the Commonlands while at the north end is a mountain passage to Lavastorm.

Yesterday's Media Box seems to indicate that Nektulos 3.0 is live on the Antonius Bayle server. Is that correct? I despised the current version from day 1, but would like to see the new version before my subscription runs out. Does anyone know when it will be rolled out to all servers?

I will now relay to you a wonderful strategy for the Fairy Mission. Using this strategy, you need not worry about the inevitable 2-3 people in group who constantly die and don't know how to hide. You will win in about 17-20 minutes with no deaths.

The most important thing is that everyone stays together.

1. The whole group heads to the cave to kill the chest. Don't worry about hiding from the lamp posts, just keep running (and jumping) when you get agro. They are tethered, so you will lose ago.

2. When you get to the chest and still have agro, run high up as you can on the wall behind the chest until you lose agro. The mobs will tether back to their spawn point.

3. Kill the chest, running up on wall any time you get agro.

4. Five people move to the mouth of the cave and hide. If they have agro, they should lose it at the cave entrance. However, don't walk onto the grass.

5. The person who waited at the box should loot the dust after everyone is in position, then head to the cave mouth.

6. Everyone dots the cave shrine, then hide again, and med. Remain in the cave mouth. Six dots will be enough to kill the shrine.

7. When the shrine hits 50%, the first grave robber will spawn. You wait for him and kill him inside the cave. Everyone dot him, you can take him out quickly.

8. Run (as a group) to the north shrine, and run all the way behind the shrine. You will lose agro from all but one rat. Kill this rat before you dot the shrine. After rat is dead, dot the shrine, hide, and med.

9. At 50%, the grave robber will spawn and wander to you. You kill him.

10. Run to the entrance of zone. You might have no agro when you get there, but if you still have one agro, go ahead and kill the rat.

11. DoT the last shrine from as far away as possible. The dot spell has incredible range. Everyone dot it, hide, med, and when it gets to about 60% 2-3 people dot it again.

12. Everyone just hide at the zone in, and you will be home free. Make sure you all see the exp message before zoning out.

Remember that if the grave robber wanders near the last shrine, do not dot the shrine. That will agro the GR, and if he kills someone with an active dot, you will not get any exp.

This strategy is awesome. All praise to Onyca from Quellious server for showing it to me.

Now more than one graverobber spawns (or did for my grp) so once u DoT shrine 7 times (6 times does
not kill shrine(s) one person must dot it 3 times.
After everyone dots 2 or 3 timesrun by ZL or in just before where the robbers go, med and hide there. (Hide usaully works sometimes it doesn't)
Also about the cave mouth, must people run 2 ZL and looter hides. I know every Fairy mission post here but mine is from '05 but since i was here almost every day when it was a popular mission, i thought i would post something i used a lot (I have seen some pretttty bad tries at this mission.

With the last patch they changed some things. The critters are no longer teathered. You can still lose aggro by going up the wall at the chest but the rest have to be killed. Stay as one group and kill your way to each shrine. you can still get everyone to the first shrine and loot the dust but that is about it. Oh and the Graverobbers now see through the hide so that is not an option. Kill them and have fun

This is an escort quest. You take the form on Orcs and fight through a rival tribe of orcs to rescue and escort a DE to safety. Fairly simple. First make sure you have 3 warriors (brutes) 2 wizzies (arcanist) and one healer. As soon as you zone in set up your AAs. Make sure you save these options if you want to use them again as it takes up some time and you dont want to have to do it everytime. Ok everyone GTG? Send one of your warriors straight forward and veer right from the zone in. Have him run to the DE to complete the first part of the task. He will die and respawn with you guys at the zone in. When I did this there was no penalty for death. (patching it now, so we will see) Now move your group towards the same way. There is a treasure chest that you need to loot a key from. The mobs here are not hard and can be pulled one at a time. The cleric has a pax called grim submission. Also, make sure the wizzards cast mind race on themselves and the healer. Once you have looted the key make your way to the DE. After you kill all the mobs surrounding him, med to full. When everyone is rdy turn in key. He will start walking and two orcs begin to come into the cave at the entrance. Warriors get a bellow so make sure you use it to get aggro and keep it off of your charge. He makes a few pit stops but for the most part just kill anything that aggros near you. If you can pax some of the mobs ahead this will make it easier because by the time you are coming back through the camp with the DE there are re-pops.

Just a random thought, with no names to go with since I am terrible with names,
The story line mentions someone going to the queen for a sacrifice for some sort of curse, the queen then had a meeting with her husband and poisoned/knocked him out and pulled him through a portal, at which point the other was there to greet her and recieve her choosen sacrifice...

What I do know, however, is that King Thex hates everyone except for the fighting Dark Elf classes. The casters usually come out of Neriak with at least a 'Your faction can get no worse with Thex', hah, so if you've been doing a lot of wine and fire beetle eye quests, watch out for the d00d. He'd pwn you.

I'm a newbie darkelf shadowknight and was wondering if this zone is always quiet? Every time I come online its always empty. So I'm just Wondering if its just my server or are there no more newbies to play with? I'm on Luclin. Even our city of Neriak is pretty empty. The most people that I've ever seen here are like 5 or 6 but that doesn't last long then I'm the only one in the zone.

Well, first thing is take the POK book close to you to POK and get buffed up as much as possible, then I would just take the freeport book and start killing stuff in Northern Dessert of Ro( need to go through the tunnel ) or just kill stuff in East commonlands. Grab a pet in POK, have someone buff it before you fight, then you can inviso and not lose your pet. Try to get a coldain veliuum dagger or 1H staff ( they process 12 dmg Velium shards spell at level 1 , during combat )NOT a Velium dagger... a coldain velium dagger... Then pull with your tash spell, get hit, step BACK, let pet engage, cast fear, and you and the pet chase the mob and start wacking away. Give your pet a nice weapon and have him buffed as much as possible. Have a higher level enchanter at POK give him swift like the wind, trade buffs with people. Shiny Bob is LIFE in the early stages. Give him a velium weapon like a rapier and have him attack willowisps . Learn the pathing of mobs for fear kiting.

Anyone know what the purpose of Bulgulg is? hes an ogre at the bridge in Nek. I cannot fing him in the beastiary.

When hailed he says "Hello dere. You showed up here too, huh? The shamen of war sent me here to help all dat hab da swampstone. If you gimme your stone I will cast a small prayer of Rallos on it. It will then take you closer to home."

So, my question being what swampstone, from where and what is the result. it looks like a possible gate type quest. I am Rallos Zek, and a war. any type of gate item even if expendilble would be highly useful to me.

If anyone has any idea as to what the components, reward and so on are to this quest plz reply.

It does sound like a gate spell of sorts or maybe just one to get trollie from the Nek bridge to the doorsteps of Neriak.

I haven't found much reference to obtaining the swampstone yet. Could be when Grobb was overrun by them glurpy frogloks.

Simple answer is: you can't. They're a rare spawn, but they do spawn near the orc camps and you can get the scalps eventually. Luckily they're tradable so you may find them for sale or find another player in a different class who has one they don't need.

My Experience with Lavastorm Guard
# Jul 22 2002 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
4 posts
I camped the Lavastorm guard yesterday morning (Level 18 Ranger, lightly tweaked). I killed him 17 times (I know based on the number of bronze long swords I had) without a death. The level of this guard appeared to vary between 15-17. The dangerous cons were sometimes difficult, but he did seem to turn and run early.

He seemed to resist about half of my spells (root and snare) and hits pretty fast. The experience was poor for me (about 1/2 a yellow bubble an hour) and I was killing him as soon as he popped.

My unscientific opinion on who should solo him would be rangers and pet-using spell casters. I think straight casters would have occassional difficulty getting spells off if he resisted root. Although I think reasonably-equipped warriors and monks could take him, I think that there would be too much wait to get fully-healed.

My strategy was to snare (resisted less than root) and then root, pull back and fill him full of arrows, then go toe-to-toe. This did a good job of raising my archery skill as well.

BTW, 17 bronze long swords in your packs weigh quite a bit, and makes for a long trip back to EC or Freeport (about 20 minutes) :-) Additionally, my AC dropped 36 points as my weight increased.

In short, this was fun for awhile, but not worth the time as I can make this much money soloing in Oasis and get about twice the experience. A pair of level 14 or 15's might do okay, but I can't say for sure.

I just wanted to post my strategy for killing DE guards. I have worked on this one alot and found like the previous poster that the lavastorm guard is the best to camp. I tag team kite this guard. I am a lvl 15 shaman and I partner with a lvl 14 druid. We prepare by buffing out (nice but not necessary) and SoWing (very necessary). I pull with spirit strike which gets me pretty high up on the hate list, and then I run in circles avoiding the guard. Meanwhile the Druid snares and once snare is in place proceeds to ignite like there is no tomorrow. Eventually this taunts the guard onto the druid, so he starts running in circles avoiding the guard and I spirit strike until he is either dead or bounces back to me. With this strategy we can kill yellow cons without losing any life and have maybe one or two bubs of mana left. Note of caution, I tried rooting and debuffing before I tried this tag team kiting and it wasn't worth it, he resists a ton and when the root does take hold he breaks it pretty easily. The loot is ridiculously good for this level and the experience is not that bad. Good hunting all.

Just a heads up,
It looks like they re-did Nektulos forest with the patch yesterday. There are new/different mobs. Including some reddish black widow looking spiders instead of the old brown ones, pyre beetles instead of fire beetles. An or camp on the east side of the zone just north of the river. A couple of monoliths to the west of the Lavastorm entrance with a LOT of new undead. I noted a Undead Annalkeeper, a undead steward, a rotting citizen, a halfling skeleton, a calcified skeleton and greater skeletons. The halfling ruins seem to have about twice as many halflings and I also saw, Arcane Shapeshifter and another Arcane something or other that I can't recall.

I first posted this for young Ogres who wanted to level quickly and get some good cash; but it works for anyone in Nektulos at low levels I think. Look over the info below and just insert whatever evil race you are for ogres.

-------------------------------------------------

I think Nektulos is much better to level as an Ogre. Quick run to the north at level one since you have nothing to lose, get bound, and commence to making money and levels. Yep, that's right: MONEY.

I killed all the spiderlings and dawgs I could get my rusty two-hander to split open and within TWO days of about 5 hours play each I was level 6 and had made almost 200 Platinum coin. That's right, 200 Plat. Killing decaying skellies and selling the chips is a pretty good way to make money; but there is a better way. Save the chips (for when you start summoning your own pet if a Shadowknight) and make LEATHER PADDING. What is leather padding? Let me explain.

To make leather padding you have to be a pretty good tailor. Start out by placing one of your starting points at first level into Tailoring. Then, when you kill spiderlings, take the spiderling silk and put two together to make silk thread; which I think is impossible to fail at because I never once did. Make as many stacks of silk thread as you can kill the little buggers (while gaining xp). You also want to kill as many wolves (and later bears) as you can. Don't make anything out of the hides yet though; just get as many stacks as you can.

After you have gotten your tailoring up to at least a ten or so, start making silk swatches (which you can make silk armor for monks and casters later) out of regular spider silk. This should help your skill raise even higher. Once you have gotten your skill to at least a 25, whether using points at new levels or just by practice, you can start making armor pieces from the old ruined bear hides you have gathered (you can actually start sooner if you like). You can find the patterns you will need in the Ogre/Troll section of the First Gate in Neriak. You can also purchase your small sewing kit here. This way you can outfit yourself in some armor and raise your skill even higher. By the time you have killed critters enough to get to sixth level and gained about a skill of 30 at least in tailoring; it is time to make money.

You will most likely need a skinning knife; so ask around to get one. I got mine off of a Dark Elf Necro for 2 stacks of bones; but don't really know where you can get one without making it yourself (which I couldn't). You need the knife to make the hides you have WORSE (combine the knife and the hide in your sewing kit and combine). Yep, worse. What you need are as many LOW QUALITY pelts as you can get; not ruined, LOW quality. Do NOT decrease HIGH QUALITY BEAR pelts however. They are worth a good amount of platinum to people who make handmade backpacks that have 10 slots and weight reduction (which at one time sold for 80PP each on my server; but are now going for only about 50PP). I decided to keep all my High Quality Bear for myself and plan to later make several Handmade packs for myself when I get my tailoring well over 100.

Now that you have several stacks of spiderling silk and low quality pelts of any kind; it is time to make Leather Padding. All you have to do is combine a single silk thread with a single low quality pelt in your sewing kit; and viola: a piece of leather padding (I did have a few failures here, so be patient; even though each failure basically costs you 5PP). Make as many stacks of this stuff as you can for one simple reason: each stack is worth about 100 Platinum pieces. I had made two stacks by the time I reached mid-sixth level and was well on my way to a third.

After you have made all the leather padding you can; go to East Commons (unless you are on a PvP server) and auction them off. They may go quickly; unless nobody needs them at the time. People who make plate armors and such need leather padding as one of the ingredients; so it is very valuable. A very good way for low level ogres to get a good start.

I purchased an Axe of the Ironback and a full suit of Banded Armor for my Ogre Shadowknight before I reached 7th level without being twinked; and had a good bit of Platinum left for purchasing all the spells I would need for later with plenty to spare. It feels really good to be legitimate with my character; and I've went back once since then to make a quick 100 plat this way. Not to mention that casters and monks both pay a decent amount for the silk armor you can make them since your tailoring is getting better. ;-)

I hope this helps starting Ogres to make some cash; and I KNOW it works, so give it a try. Heck, even if you aren't starting out it is a good way to make money. I have a friend who plays a dwarf that went to Halas and made over 20 stacks of this stuff and is now quite well off! Not going to go to Everfrost with an Ogre though. ;-)

Good luck to you.

We went back to dance with the guards a little bit before heading into Lavastorm.

I found this time that I got many yellow cons and a couple of blue cons from this guy. Also, the yellow cons seem to have about a 1 in 3 drop rate of additional items. From the 3 or 4 yellow cons we fought, I picked up more words and a rune. And always the nice bronze sword. Anyway, for magies and wizzies needing to do research, a high teen should be able to solo this guy easy, or pull a friend with you.

Also, for a druid, use Ignite on this guy. I found he almost never resisted it, even when he was resisting my snares, and it does nice damage. It is also more mana efficent then Hail, which he does sometimes resist.

And Stone Guardians? Easy. If you are pulling this guy from inside the cave, you should have little fear of them. I haven't double-pulled once.

So, I'm in Qeynos, my friend is in Karanas, and I am really jonesing to go to lavastorm because my alt(enchanter) needs jewels. So, we go. Getting there is it's own adventure. It is late when we get there, and I get this idea. There is that single yellow-con guard and two of us.

Heh heh heh

So, we camp right near the zone and I pull away.

He summons Earth pet for the root and mem's his nukes. I buff us, then have healing, thistleshield, sow, camo, snare, root, swarm, hail, memmed.

I snare. Sometimes the guard resists, sometimes not. These guys have strong resist to snare/root spells.
Pet goes in to greet the guard and he and I nuke and DoT until the guard is dead. Melee as needed, but rarely. Most of my melee happened when the snare failed and the guard caught up to me.

I died none. The mage died once, when his pet bit it to a yellow-con. He is a high elf, and apparently darkies hate them worse than woodelves. I could do nothing to pull him off the guard, and he wasn't about to leave me to the guard's tender mercies. His sacrifice wasn't in vain. I did kill him.

Anyway, at Lvl 15, the guard spawn conned yellow, black, black, black, blue, black, yellow. He does have a spawn time of about 3 min on average. Very fast. We killed about 6 guards and I got a full yellow bubble of xp. Bronze sword every time, and pg 23 of talsarin's grimoire once. I sold the swords to the druid in lava for 2 1/2 plat a peice. Very nice.

I definately suggest this for one or two people, depending on class. The XP and loot and quick spawn make this a great way to pass a short amount of time.

For my ic reasoning: These guards are part of a faction that is allying with Orcs. ORCS! What self-respecting elf... If Ravensveil is to suceed in uniting the elven races, then we must put a stop to that Alliance. We can't take on the Indigo B-hood's heart yet, or D'vin, but we can begin striking and learn.

i always get annoyed when those young kodiaks come up to my necro and he doesnt have a pet. I either have to run all the way back to the zone, or i have to go to the gaurds, and i am pretty slow, because i always have some good loots from other zones and i bring them back to sell. Most of the time, it's also the money that weighs me down, so im throwing out all my copper when i get it. The best zone to go to for lvl 6 and above to go to, because they want to go somewhere, is east commons. That place has a lot of good exp, like orc leighoneres (which u shouldnt fight till lvl 14), orc centurons are good to solo on if ur a level 10 with a pet. Spell casters should get staffs in one hand, and a little thing that gives u manna in the other. If u are above lvl 8, GET YOUR NEW SPELLS!!! They are the best spells i have gotten yet. U can turn invisible, make a very nice pet, and u get a spell to turn health into manna. This is my strategy for lvls 1-14

Shadowed men are very tough. 30's and 40's I think. I've seen them in lesser fay (walked right by one in fact) and lavastorm. They don't agro me as a druid of tunare. Infact, i don't think they are generally agressive at all. However, I think that the temple of solsek ro directly opposes them (not 100%, but pretty sure), so if you follow solusek ro (doubtful if you're a darkie), then you might be KoS to them, so be aware.
Good news, Lesser Fay is hte only place i've seen them roam freely.

Shadowded Men are in thier low twenties, to high twenties. Very tough cause most of them are caster type mobs. Even the non caster types are tough. You will need to kill these however if you want to have good faction in the temple of ro. Wich hands out good quests.(specially to shadowknights when they need to do thier quest for that armor that they need for thier epic) I find them very aggresive even at my level. They are great exp however. Shadowded men can be found in nektulos, wc, lavastorm, and lesserfay. Not sure where else. They are also involved in the jboots quest wich everyone does. Not sure if they can be single pulled, depends on the level of the charcter. Hope this helps.

After crossing the bridge heading to EC, take the path that goes to the right. At the end of the path you will have a couple of YK spawns and the occasional wisp. Killing the large spiders there will stock you up on Spider silk and the black bears will give you HQ pelts here and there which you can sell both for good cash. The only problem is the wandering guard will sometimes steal your kill there, but then you are probably use to this by now, hehe.

I found my lvl 8 Enchanter and pet could take all the skeletons Undead Monolith on the bottom right of the map and own the spawn, just me and my pet. To get to the Monolith, as you enter the forest from East Commonlands, take a right against the wall and its a little ways off the path.

I was able to break the undead ruin spawn and then take them on in smaller numbers, all just me and my enchanter animation. To start, I used the Mesmerize pull tactic, that is when you mez a skeleton and the skeleton or two within aggro range comes at you. A Suffocating sphere, some mellee, and my lvl 8 pet would finish them off quick. Then back to medding. I found that once the spawn was broken, I would be full of mana and health around the time the skeletons started reappearing one or two at a time. I had just turned level 8 and was practicing my Chaotic Feedback DD spell, so I was usually oom between fights. For me, I think its a pretty quick spawn. The loot is a lot better than most of the wandering animals in East Commonlands. You also can see what you are getting and no hidden surprises.

Camoflage. That is the best way. failing that, if you are SoW'd, you can outrun the guard, especially if you snare/stun him first. just be careful that he doesn't resist. he seems to have a high resistence for snare/roots

Killing Inkies
# Jan 17 2001 at 12:20 PM Rating: Good
Hello out there!

NF is, simply put, the best zone to hunt for good races from 15-20. I spent these lvl's in NF and loved it, without dying a single time.

Most good races will hunt on the bridge in NF, causing trains and getting killed by the ocassional Dragoon. This is a terible place to hunt. Instead go all the way to the very back of the zone, Right inside the Lavastorm entrence is a huge rock. Hold here. A gaurd will pop here every 5-6mins. Kill the Inkie bastard. He hits hard but has no HP. He drops (always) a bronze long sword (worth almost 3pp). He starts to con green around 19 but stays mostly blue until 20. When your waiting for the gaurd to spawn, pull some mobs. This is a great pull spot sense nothing can aggro on you and the zone is only a 10sec run away. When I went there it was with a cleric and a bard (and me a warrior) everytime, and rarley did we over pull or have to zone. Try to pull Stone Gaurdians and Iron Gaurdians who wander around just out of aggro range from the rock. Becareful, those Iron's pack a mean punch and have some heavy HP. They also can only be hit by magic weapons. I believe the Stone Gaurdians conned green at 20 while the Irons just started to conn yellow or black at 20. These guys are great xp and good loot. They will also keep the xp flowing while waiting for the gaurd to pop. I spent lvl's 15-20 here and loved it. No trains to worry about, the camp is ALWAYS open, and best of all, great loot for the lvl and good xp.

So Give those Inkie Gaurds hell for me. They deserve it )

Since you brought it up, I'll agree with you and add that my lv 17 mage was moderately successful here. I say moderately because I was only on long enough to kill about eight guards (who I thought spawned more like 3 minutes... either way I was always ready to go again by the time the next one popped) and got killed by a black-con once which set me back to where I had started. They hit pretty hard, in my opinion, which reduces my options to just the earth pet, or water if I need the adrenaline rush. Of course, I was only killed because I wasn't paying attention to my pet's health and did not run for the zone. Since I spend the time medding and bandaging, I haven't had to pull other mobs due to the very fast spawn rate.

Tactically it's a no-brainer for a mage, treat him like any other melee mob. Summoning your best pet is, as usual, pretty important. At lv 17 that means earth pet + burnout + fireshield, mem your fire and shock nukes, shielding + phantom leather on yourself (and a fire shield if you need it). Get his attention with 90+ fire damage, sic Rocky on him, fire-shield Rocky (you should already have him berserk), then nuke as needed. I find that I can still take a couple hits for my pet, even at half-health vs. this guy, which can add a few seconds to the pet's life. If you do, remember the fire shield. I always forget to FS myself. And try not to do it without phantom leather. Don't go below a bubble of HP, either, because it's a tricky maneuver to bandage yourself in combat -- it usually means you're not doing something to help your pet. If things get bad, just zone. Simple, eh?

I camped this spot and soloed it no problem. The guards were plenty of xp all the way up to Lv 22, when the greenies started giving nothing but their lives and bronze swords. The spawn time appears to be around the 6 minute range. I found this out when I would cast frenzy on myself, sit down to remed to fm while I recovered, go through the fight, loot and sit back down to med. By the time I was back to fm and my frenzy had faded, the guard was there again waiting to die. I also found it helps to cast vision on the guard to watch from his perspective at the start of the fight. I learned this when I went to root the guard, and as soon as I did, I saw a stone guardian come running from the side. I immediately ditched the fight and zoned out, knowing that I wouldn't be able to take both. Remember to cancel the vision spell and switch back to your own view before you run or you may end up running wildly and possibly the wrong way into the mob. Found that one out the hard way as well, but I didn't die, thankfully (SoW is such a wonderful thing). Some of the more hordcore inkies will probably give you some flack for killing their guards, but I found if you give up a SoW to any that come by asking, it lessens the amount of guff. The corporals are starting to con white and blue to me now, so I'm gonna try to find a good safe pull spot and see what happens. Have fun and enjoy the xp. One more thing, as a shaman, you can bind yourself in EC at the NF zone so when it comes time to sell, you can just gate out and run to Innskeep Harold at the Inn that lies directly SSE of the zone. 2p 5g 5s 9c is what I got for each sword from him, so you're looking at 50p for 20 kills.

Starting around lvl 14 I think, maybe 17 you can get a group together and start killing DE gaurds that spawn at the bridge. This is nice exp and they nearly always drop a bronze weapon that can be sold for a couple of pp. You have to be careful not to pull a train of the gaurds, especially if there is a corporal in them. Make sure you have a sow or you'll be in trouble. I would always just pull back to the entrance to EC and my party would hack away, its nice exp too.

This is what you fight to get from lvl 1-8 easy. You can also gather like quest items to take into town every so often for when you level. its up to you. But first things first, FIND "the newbie log." it is the safest place for you to level, it usually has more than 1 person there, so if you get swarmed by something, you can run and /yell for help, and usually there is help there.

LVL 1:
kill moss snakes, black wolves, and decaying skeletons.
LVL 2:
kill lvl 1 things plus start killing fire beetles, but watch out, those fire beetles like to swarm.
LVL 3:
kill fire beetles/spiderlings. And con a few bears/shadow wolves, if they are even, kill them. otherwise, stay away for now.
LVL 4:
kill bears, shadow wolves, and large spiders. The silk/venom sacks is good money for low lvls.
LVL 5:
kill lower level skel cons. Also kill bears/shadow wolves, and spiders.
LVL 6:
Kill all skeletons, bears, shadow wolves, spiders, (tree snakes if you are not a melee class, poison is a big downtime, except on pets)
LVL 7:
Kill everything you see of shadow wolves, bears, skeletons, spiders. A 3 spawn skeleton spawn alone is very good exp for this lvl. Kill all that except for green coned things.
LVL 8:
If you still stay in nektulos, kill yks, wisps, and skeletons. Otherwise, i recommend moving to EC and soloing scarabs/spiders or get in an orc group. Kill darkweed snakes if you have a pet. Their poison is horrid, but no one kills them so they are plentiful. Do no fight these if you are a melee class.

I saw this post as an excellent way for me to get some experience for my level 5 Rogue (Half Elf) and my level 7 Paladin (Human). Since my Paladin is working on tailoring skills and is having a hard time finding Large Spiders in EC for spider silk, I thought this would be perfect for getting shadow wolf pelts and spider silk. UNFORTUNATELY, I did not realize that these low level characters would be bugs easy for squashing by the DE guards. Newbies beware, you should only be here if you are a Dark Character. I was lucky enough for my Rogue and Paladin to both get in and roam around and get some good kills until the guards decided to show up (the guards had been previously killed by other high level hunting groups). If there are high levels in there just for the fun of killing the guards, you will be safe enough but if no one is killing guards then BEWARE because you will not get one foot in the zone before you are cut down. There is nothing worse than not being able to perform your corpse run. Even if your corpse is at the zone, I got killed multiple times before i could retrieve all my gear (thus leaving multiple corpses with a little bit of my gear on each.

I've heard a lot of gripping about what a horrible zone Nektulos is to start in. Piffle! I have three DE characters, all who did very well in Nektulos all the way up until 8 or 9th.

Here's what to do before even leaving town as a newbie. If your class/religion factions are high enough go to the top of the Shadow knight guild and get the quest to gather beetle eyes. Then go to rogues guild and get quest to gather snake parts. These will both result in some cash, or food, and experience, but most importantly will give you containers you can place small items in. I keep repeating these quests up until the exp return becomes minimal.

When hitting Nektulos angle a hard left, clearing over the top of the hill, and you'll find the newbie log. hang here because there will be higher level folks to help you if you're in trouble. Don't venture across the road near the newbie log, and don't go across the river, yet.

As you are hunting save all your bone chips and don't sell them to the first person that asks to buy. Wait for a wealthy buyers (4-5PP). You're first purchase should be a couple back packs to haul loot. If you wear armor, train a few points into tailoring and buy a tailors kit for making armor out of wolf pelts and for making silk swatches out of spider silk (not spiderling silk).

Once you have finally advanced to 5th level or so, cross over the road that runs past the newbie log. Across the road from the newbie log is a larage stump. Beyond this stump is a large glade bordered by a hill on your left, light woods on your right, and a deep ravine far ahead. This area is rife with skeletons, black bears, and large spiders. Be sure to carry your tailors kit with you so that non-stackable spidersilk can be turned into stackable silk swatchs.

The skeletons, black bears, spiders, and occassional Young Kodiak will supply you with okay experience until 8th or 9th.

From this area the loots you want most are; bone chips, spider silk, and High Quality Bear skins.

To get the best price for bone chips save up many stacks, then go hang out at the bank for a while watching the /who all list. When you see a high level necro or shadow knight offer all of yourstacks for sale. Don't accept anything less than 4 or 5PP per stack, and often you will get more.

HQ bear skins sell for around 25 to 30PP, and silk swatches go for around 1PP, but I've seen buyers recently paying 2PP. You will have a difficutlt time selling HQ bear skins and silk in Nektulos, so go out to EC or WC and auction your wears there.

You should be able to amass quite a bit of money, and there for gear, and get okay experience while following this guide. Happy hunting in Nektulos and beyond,

Azkurat
22nd Shadow Knight of Povar
PS: pricing in this guide does not apply to PvP servers where-in the population in Nektulos makes the whole place an overcrowded nut house! LOL

Just as a bonus note, you can now combine spiderling silks into silk threads. These are nicely stackable.
