The Paludal Caverns are a network of fungus and mold-ridden caves located beneath Hollowshade Moor. In addition to the usual lineup of creatures you'd find in such an area, there are also a few camps of Recondite bandits established here.

Still good EXP

IMO this is still the best EXP spot for Lv10-24 or thereabouts. Its not a hot zone but I dont think the EXP ever got nerfed here so its still an absurd ZEM modifier. We all started noobs when F2P came around. We had a Druid, Pally, Wiz, and the rest mercs which consisted of a cleric, tank and dps. From PoK take it to Shadeweavers Thicket, then a quick run north to a tunnel which will take you to the low lvl part of the zone. From there we made our way up to the higher lvl Phlargs and then the Recondite camps killing pretty much everything in between. Since we were the only ones there we proceeded to camp both Recondite camps and in like 1.5 hours we were all pretty much done with lv10-24.

Hidden passage to PC
# Jan 25 2007 at 4:14 AM Rating: Decent
Does anyone know anything about a hidden passage to PC (or somewhere else?) from the POK book in the Nexus? The guard at the entrance to the short passage to the POK book from the Nexus says something about a rock fall killing their people while trying to tunnel through to PC, and if you look to the left when standing before the POK book, the top left boulder kind of flashes on and off as though it's not all there. Anybody know what this is? Anybody know any way to shift rocks? I can't climb up to it to see if i can get past. Maybe someone with levitation could get to it, or a tracker could see if they can track anything in that direction. May be a stupid idea, but my curiosity is niggling me.
Oh, what a bunch of whining @*$&s

I solo'ed this place from LVL15-LVL18. Sure, money sucks, but you can build that back LATER.. Now, when you get two NECs & three SK's in a group, YOU ARE SCREWED. Without a healer, you're dead if you stay near Recondite aggro range. I was $!*#ed about nine times because few people have any brains to watch if someone else is getting attacked, too busy looting without /auto on.

I refuse to group with ANYONE anymore except for guild mates and my friends on EQ anymore, simply because of all the true 'newbies', the ones that can't go anywhere without a LVL50 CLC or ENC following them around like a puppy dog all the time. There should be a black list for all you whining sons of ^!*#*@$ that ninja all the $&!# I killed to make a few g. It's not really EQ's fault, they're dealing with bugs and problems all the time.

I completely agree that KEI should be at least LVL51+.

true, this place rocks. then, right next to it is echo caverns, which also rocks (on the hard side). u can also bind at the zone in, which makes things easyer. PC gives off alot of pp for its levels, but EC gives us hardly any :-( shame. after echo, go to scarlet desert. its kool there.

GM Event
# Sep 19 2004 at 11:31 AM Rating: Decent
Got a GM event here with some friends while camping C1. It said in yellow text a Vah Shir kitten was being fed by bandits to Ringo the big bug at C2 blah blah blah. We run over there and hack are way through double as many bandits and a suprisingly higher lvl Ringo to find a Neisu the Kitten, tiny Vah Shir that needed to find its way back to Shar Vahl. Long story short, we take her back to Shar Vahl and she gives us some nice loot- Tree Weave, Ring of Darkness, 2 Jagged Band, Diamondine Ring, something else (can't remember) and off she goes. Pretty cool little change to just camping bandits all day.

I am an EQ noob of sorts... I just started playing a month ago so Ive gotten alot of help from my friend who is a 65 Ranger. He first took me to Karns Tower the to here. I came To PC when I was 17 and I dinged 21 in just under 4 hours. I dont know much about the game... but I can say this place is Uber-sick. My group camped C1 for about 2.5 hours then we moved across the lake to C2, where I continued the killing spree untill I had to leave, and my group just kept on going. ^^

This place is definatly awsome. So much so infact that I will probably start soloing here in a lvl or 2 until I cap it out.

Any suggestions as to where I should go next?

GREAT GROUP
# Jun 26 2004 at 9:53 AM Rating: Default
Had a great group in here last night. Ravenshield (sk), Krunj (rng), Wildiwen (sp?? Sorry, it was late...) and Leapfrogg (clrs), Gnomro (nec), and myself, Ouma (enc). Crabbernackle (pal) later replaced Krunj, and Sharlamane (??) was also with us for a time. All 18-20 when we started. I got 3 levels in about 4 hours myself, and that was with losing 20% to leadership exp. Had a few others come around and "share" with us but nothing obnoxious. I've never failed to have a great time once I get into a group here; nothing makes people be nice like getting insane exp :). Thanks to Raven and Crabb for teaching me a couple things about targeting!

I heard from 3 people today in PC that the zone XP bonus was removed (PC was nerfed). Is this true? At level 6 I was still gaining XP like a monkey (5%+ a kill)

PC on RZ
# Oct 30 2003 at 1:25 PM Rating: Good
Just a foot note for all those who are interested in hunting for the best possible exp in the game to level by. With out any doubt this zone is definately the best exp your gonna find anywhere. However, those of us playing on RZ and other PVP will rarely find a time to log in that several Pk's or grouped PK's arent waiting there for you, they practically live in here. It seems that the exp draws people but with a long run to the zone line and a zone that puts you in a loc slightly inside instead of like regular zones which put you directly on the other side of the zone line when you enter, here PKs will wait for you to zone in and 5 on 1 maul you before you even get a chance to zone out. This blows. If you do get in and start hunting be prepaired for confrontation. These losers which seem to spend all there on line time twinked, buffed to the hilt and waiting for people to enter this zone to fight. For them its not about exp at all. They are the worst of them who fight unfair and cowardly for the joy of wasting your time. they will kill you even if your on a corpse run. Like I said cowards. Anyhow, Beware that although the Exp is definately worth the try from 15-24 try and do it in a group for safety, keep some mana for a quick escape and plan on haveing to defend your position there regularly in addition to all the others flames about this zone being overcrowded and trainey. Thats all true as well. Yet again. the exp is still worth it if you survive and dont get all your gear stolen and time wasted trying to do it. Thats my 2 cp. Good luck all.
PS all you clowns who come to PC everyday to prey on the weak in packs, allow me to politely tell you that your rediculous and I hope Wooshie has you for breakfeast. Have a nice day ;)

I know anyone who enjoys that type of playstyle can come up with a zillion reasons on why PvP servers are cool, what you describe is basically the main reason I play on "Care bear" servers. Dealing with NPCs is bad enough, the last thing I want or need is some beat-down-by-life trenchcoat mafia teenager gettin his jollies from interrupting my online time. (Sorry for the off-topic post.)

Best place to level from 10-24 in the game

PC is by far the best place to level that I have found in playting everquest. I am not a die-hard by any means but have played this game enough to know a good deal when you see one.

Level 10-15 - Hunt for Mud Diggers/burrowers around the entrance to Shadoweaver Thicket. Most con light blue to yellow and can easily be taken down with a small group that includes a cleric (for healing and cure disease).

Level 15-24 - Must have a full group and camp bandits at B1 and B2. Loot is pretty good since the drop bronze armor and weapons that you can sell for around 1-4 plat apiece. Experience is awesome and doesn't slow down until 23 or 24 when the bandits start conning linght blue.

Drawbacks are few and but annoying. Trains are commonplace because of people just being stupid, but a well rounded group should be able to handle two or three adds with no problem (just watch out for backstabs).

I play usually at night (EST) and lately the place has not been nearly so crowded (average 15-25 players). Makes the place even better IMO

This place is brilliant once you get high enough to get groups at the bandit camps. The only bad thing about PC is crud,...spreading crud!!!! Unless you have (or are with someone who has) curte disease, stay well clear of the phargs!!!!:P
RE: Best place to level from 10-24 in the game
# Oct 29 2003 at 8:51 PM Rating: Decent
This place may be the best for exp but it sucks because its always overcamped. Other dumb groups will come in and try and "share" the camp with you without even asking. And if you ask me camps shouldn't be shared. If its freaking camped why not go someplace else? There are TONS of zones that are unused now because of this stupid zone. And so what if you won't get the uber experience from pc? At least you'll be getting experience and not causing other people to whine and ***** in ooc because you never asked to share the camp spot and just decided to walts in and kill stuff. Well I'm glad I'm 25 now cause I get to go to High Hold Keep and leave this god foresaken zone. Good luck to the rest of ya.

I'm not sure how to get here from Shadeweavers Thicket. Is Paludal Caverns inside one of the caves in Shadeweavers Thicket? I have a map of the Thicket and tried to follow it to the Caverns but never actually got there.

Thanks in advance.

Just reading through some of these posts reinforces my desire to avoid this place -- but everyone else should go here when possible so that other good zones for this level are available for soloing and those who seek more challenging group opportunities.

Sure, the xp is great, but not worth the hassles of trying to find a spot when there are 50+ people in the zone, and most of them are whining about so-and-so taking 'their' MOB. At least they fixed the KEI/HoV problem so that you don't have group members running off to Nexus for their next fix.

The best thing about this zone is the trains that people generate. Watching toons progressively drag more and more bandits to the Shadowhaven zone is great fun.

I have a 24 warrior in PC and i'm just wondering: When do I leave, and if I do, where do I go? Things are getting kinda boring, I don't know if it's just my going LD every 10 min. or if things aren't hard enough around there. But you know i hate to leave the XP bonus. What do i do?

It's my opinion that WIS-casters (You know, the people who get Cure Disease) are better off soloing the Fungal Fiends on the ledge around the lake, rather than teaming up on the bandit camps. There are few people fighting the Fiends most of the time, allowing for a pretty consistent stream of fighting (As much as you can handle!), and the adds on the Fiends are few... there are only a few wandering Fiends, and the Fiends have a very low aggro range. If you take out the wanderers first, then you can take out the rest, one at a time, at your leisure.

The DoT effect that the Fiends proc, Spreading Crud, can be cured with three castings of Cure Disease, and it's a good idea to cure it as soon as your battle is over. If you don't have Cure Disease, stick to the bandit camps, or find another zone to fight in.

WIS casters arent the only people to get cure desease. some other classes get it as well(not too sure if ALL the INT casters get it but im sure necros do). But either way phlargs arent the best thing in the caverns to take on anyway, their only good for killing while waiting for a bandit group.

I went from 16-21 in 30minutes. What is taking u guys 2-3 hours? My lvl 16 mage was only very lightly twinked wit164 int and with kei. A friend of mine made 16-20 in 10min with a powerleveling druid. If you want my advice- don't group at all unless your class demands it. Solo is the best exp in this game, and you should do it until the mobs get too high. I soloed the feinds ezily with my mage. Hope this helps you guys out

Hash~ You are such a liar. To get 5 levels solo in 30 minutes is not possible past level 10 no matter how twinked you are. If you have no downtime (which is possible with KEI), you would still have to get a yellow bubble of xp every minute. Not going to happen.

"but I'm uber and i'm awesome at eq"

#REDACTED, Posted: May 08 2003 at 11:11 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i went there once with a KEI... so i was made the healer of the group... LOL i had to heal two ogre beastlords to max... took longer ot heal them than to gain levels... but i agree on the KEI limitation... i've personaly never asked for KEI, but i have been given it twice for free... usually i've gotten it right after i bought all my spells and was broke... but i never use the KEI to get others to join me... i always have a full group... what I don't like is when people very very low ask for KEI when you know they don't need it except for bragging rights... i bet they have no idea you have to kill a lvl 60-63 mob just to get it... and I looked that up so I know what I'm talking about... and 164 INT..? was that BEFORE the KEI..? if not, then he isn't that twinked... 164-25 = what, 139... I'm twinked... with KEI, I have about 206 WIS <druid>... the thing is, I didn't put asingle starting point into wisdom <i hadn't done any research, cut me some slack>... if I had, my WIS w/o KEI would be 206 at lvl 23... with KEI... it'd be at 231... most of my items were guild gifts <blackened mace, foreman's tunic, two +5 wis bracers, plat jasper and velium jasper rings>... i had a pretty high guild... Triune Alliance... anyways... enough of your time...

164 INT at level 16 is NOT "Lightly Twinked." It's definitely not "Mega-twinked," but it IS some pretty heavy twinkage.

And the KEI makes it all that much simpler... no challenge, no concern for logistics, just "Root-nuke-nuke-nuke-repeat." Personally, I'd be happy if they put a level 50+ restriction on KEI. There's nothing I hate more than hearing, "Lv. 12 Wizzie w/C3 LFG" (Insert any other finger-wiggler class in place of Wizard) in a zone intended for Lv. 20+ groups.

Bragging that you made 5 levels in 30 minutes thanks to being twinked and uber-buffed is nothing to be proud of.

If we all wanted to powerlevel, or be twinked it would be easy to level that quickly. If we're playing the game as it was designed to be played, it'll take longer. Part of the fun of leveling is the challenge, at least for me. Most of the fun of an RPG, for me, is working my way up and building a powerful character from scratch. Just a different POV.

I have to admit these dayz I uber twink toons, but I have been playing virtually from the EQ beginnings. I therefore have no beef against those that twink and play twinks it is after all part of the fun. But for me the fun comes from remembering what it was like being a raw recruit with no money and always seeing "you are hungry" on your screen, when it meant something! I wonder how many EQ players truelly remember those dayz?

I'm glad I don't have to tramp it in game though.

I uber twinked my brother when he started and I don't think he's quite got the idea about the social aspects of the game.

Enough of my musing...
