One of the northern-most points in Antonica, this icy stronghold in the frigid plains is the home to Norrath's barbarians.

With the gnolls of BlackBurrow to the south, Lady Vox and her ice giant horde to the east, and clans of goblins and orcs stroon throughout the Everfrost Peaks, it is no wonder why Halas has used a cold lake of water to separate itself from the rest of the world. In order to reach the city, one must either ride The Gwenavyne across the lake or bear the frigid water temperatures. Either way, troublemakers will find themselves in deep with the guards of Halas before ever having a chance to trespass into city grounds.

Halas itself is quite small. One could do a roundabout through the city's centers in a short time. Battered by frequent snowstorms, most places are blanketed in a thick lair of snow. While the barbarians are used to the cold temperatures, outlanders may not be. With that in mind, most if not all shops and vendors are located indoors, each building with a fireplace keeping it warm.

For a bit of nostalgia, I was looking at the info on Halas again. I always liked that little town. It was really my favorite place in EQ, not that I ever saw much of it.

Imagine my surprise when I saw this post from me from 7.5 years ago!

Dargon in Halas sells a potion called Ro's Breath for like 800 some odd plat that has a right click 25 dmg shield. What is nice about this ds is the fact that it stacks with regular DS pots, which at level one I think comes out to around 35, and goes up with the distillate strength. The shield doesn't last long... only a few minutes, but if you are looking to gain a couple levels really quick, get a temp and use both ds pots and hit up some trains.

What I would like to know is why all the old zones have a connecting zone to dranik's scar. Is there really?

Well this is a really late response.

Any zone with a priest of discord will be listed as a connecting zone to DS. By saying 'wish to go' to a PoD you will be ported to Dranik's scar. Once there you can tell the PoD 'go home" to be sent back to the PoD you originally ported in from.

It's one-way only.
From Timorous Deep, the firepot room, to Halas.

You can't go the other direction from Halas to TD.

I play a barbarian warrior, so Halas based. What I want to know is how and where can I quest for a better bow to 'pull' monsters out with? Right now I have a shop bought Rough Hickory Recurve that I did a restring on.
I know I'm not a ranger, but would still like to do a little more damage with that 1st shot.

I'm an Ogre Warrior and I've noticed that I'm NOT Kos to the guards here. My guess is if you worship Rallos Zek that affects it enough to make you dubious at the most. It also makes me dubious with a few giants. Kinda cool walking into the giant town while most people are kos to them. =) But being dubious that means I can actually get in to bring up my faction now!

I I believe the guards are under Wolves of the North Faction:

Killing gnolls and goblins won't impress them, unless you are turning in things they drop for quests.

Check that link, it tells you who you can kill to raise faction.

in the torc (spelling??) shop there is a barbarian behind the wall doesn't talk must but he is for a eru necro quest namely the mantle of souls quest re requires 500gp and in return you' ll get a no drop lore potion called potion of sorrows

anyway i an going to be doing this quest when i hit lvl 50 i am working on raising my faction there now (lvl 41) i added a pst to the cindis polarbear skin quest posts if any of you eru necromancers are planning on doing this quest

also there isanother way to raise yourfaction with wolfs of the north

there is only one type of mob ( i use tis term loosly) to kill to raise this faction

if you kill ebon mask rogues these are DE rogues in the rogue guild in neriaks 3rd gate or there is a ebon mask spy in gfay on an hour timer also raises this faction

the ebon mask spy is only like lvl 10 and my pet wats him in one hit hehe

but let it be known that if you plan on camping the spy be prepared to spend about 2 weeks + killing him every hour

needless to say the polarbear skkin quest is much easyer andquicker to get you n the front door without aving to invis

Actually, the easiest way to get him to talk to you is to buy an Essence of Barbarian potion. You'll be amazed at how friendly he gets once you are all tattoed and buffed and wearing a kilt!

Hey people, this is for giving advice on doing halas. If you have simple questions: search the web or ask on line - don't clutter up this advice line. If you make a post here - it stays long - long after u get your answer. EVERYONE who follows you has to scroll thru your useless questions - give us a break - PLEASE. Do your research on the web - don't use this as a medium for getting answers you can easily get else where.

I know Halas pretty well (it's not difficult). I created a barbarian beastlord on the roleplaying server Fironia Vie. I have to train with Keven in the Church of the Tribunal. Well, it seems I am stupid. I can't find Keven or the Church of the Tribunal. I thought it might be the Shaman's guild, but, I didn't find any barbarian named Keven there. Anyone know where it is?

Well, I am playing a barbarian beastlord on the Vazaelle server and the trainer is located past the shaman guild. If you take the back way from the shaman guild to the pit of doom, there are 5 huts that use to be empty. The trainer should be in the second hut on the right. The third one on the right should be the merchant selling the beastlord only spells. And the second hut on the left should be the NPC with some beastlord only quests to get you started out (the quests give you some decient magical items).

go to www.eqatlas.com and look up west and east antonica.
However, the trip is INCREDIBLY long (we're talkin about two entire game days), and it's probably better to get a port (getting a port to wc usually isn't too hard, and it's only two zones away from freeport).
Shaman's Paradise

Halas is a great place for anyone! I ran here from Erudin with my level 2 wizzy and haven't left except to get spells. From 1-5 stay in front of the ramp that leads up to the merchants near the zone and just wax the mobs that wander through the canyon. During the first few levels, try to pull mobs back into the "alley" or you could have others aggro on you in no time.

Everfrost is a double-edged sword. It is great because mobs are not hard to find (no place to wander in canyons), but risky at low levels because there usually is at least one more out of the blue that attacks you while you are fighting. Pretty much every item you loot is part of some quest though... Keep the ice gobby beads, polar bear skins, and spider fungus. These items are all used in quests in Halas (check the quests page for details).

I suggest keeping the pelts and spider silks to improve your tailoring ability. Combine spiderling silks to get thread, then combine thread to get cord. You can sell cord or bank it for later when you can trivial hand-made backpacks (10-slot/50-100pp). You can buy sewing kits and patterns from the merchants at the top of the ramp and make patchwork or tattered armor. This will skyrocket your tailoring in no time, and give you more money by selling the items instead of the materials, or if you are a kind person, raise your reputation with the local newbies by giving away free armor. There are not a lot of people in Everfrost for the most part, so the more friends you make the better.

Look out for Vengeful anything!! They WILL kill you.

Once you hit 5-6 head to the west part of the zone. There are a series of gorges which sport mammoths, snow orc troopers, snow leopards, ice gobby scouts/warriors, polar bears, skeletons and wooly spiders. If you can group, then do it, as sometimes higher level mobs wonder toward the newbie zone. If you want to solo, stick near the guards near the northern two canyons. Kill spiders, gobbys and skeletons to start. Keep the necklaces and spider silks. Necklaces are quest items. (any exp you can get is worth it right?) Spider silks (not SPIDERLING silk) can be combined in a sewing kit to make silk swatches. Silk swatches can be used to make bandages, or raw silk armor (with patterns) which sells for a LOT more than tattered armor.

If you want to, camp the southern most goblin spawn. Every couple of spawn cycles, a goblin caster will appear. Kill him and he drops either shattered caster beads or caster beads, both are shaman guild quest items. Non-shattered caster beads will get you a weapon. (Not sure of stats... long time ago) Need good faction for these quests though. My wizzy couldn't complete them, so I ended up selling or giving away all the items to my buddy shaman. I still got xp because we were grouped though. ;)

I won't suggest any more levels because everyone is different. If you group, you can take out snow orc troopers and snow kitties at lower levels (8-9?), but if you solo these can get significantly harder. I have been part of an awesome group taking out mammoth calfs at 5-8.

Watch out for tundra jack and iceberg. I have been killed by both for casting spells too near them... They wander this area sometimes taking out polar bears and anything else that moves. If you can find him, Karg Icebear will make you armor from bearskins (cloak i think??) for some gold and skins. Look it up in the quests to be sure.

I might be too vague in some of this, but everyone has their own style of playing. Take it or leave it, this is how I play the zone. :)

Halas is a pretty neat place to start out cause the first few levels you can go out killin gnoll pups and ice bear pups, once your done with those you can go to the gnoll camp which has a wide variety of gnolls to suit your skill level. If you've managed to kill every gnoll in that camp you can go out into the everfrost;itll keep you occupied for a long time.Only thing for newbies:watch out for vengeful soloists;they'll kick your *** in 5 seconds...they seem to come out mostly at night, but if u meet one, dont run just /loc and collect the stuff of your corpse
swimming
# Mar 01 2001 at 1:36 PM Rating: Decent
One thing i learned is that you will gain swimming by swimming into the wall at Halas. But for some reason not at the docks in Qeynos. Hmm.

I fixed this by taking everything off my body, except the newbie food.

WAIT TILL YOUR LEVEL 3 to do this (cuz you get your swimming up to 20 and still get free food when you die)

What I did in Qey was to put a tape measure on the right arrow key after going out into the open water and swam in circles until I died. Came back from walking the dog and had my swimming up to 20, was at my return spot with full supply of newbie dagger and 5 food and water.

I'm tellin' ya, you're missing a golden opportunity to learn yourself a really, really useful skill here. Don't just take the easy way across that lake outside o' town--swim for it! You'll be surprised at how fast your skill goes up, and the skill comes in darned handy later (say, the Qeynos aqueducts and the Ivan's remains quest). Plus, as long as you keep your nose pointed up, you won't drown, even with no practice at all. Given that swimming skill translates into swimming speed, and speed means less time underwater when you have to dive, you owe it to yourself to work this one up.

Free containers for newbies
# Aug 23 2000 at 11:34 AM Rating: Good
2 Things you should do before leaving Halas for the first time is to get some free containers.

1) Go to Waltor Felligan (outside the shamans guild near the bank) and tell him "I will assist in gathering fungus". You will get a 8 slot jar.

2) Go to Lysbith McNaff (in the warriors guild, she is in the pit area) and tell he "I will protect the pass". You will get a 6 slot box.

You don't have to do the quests, just use it as a containers to hold things. This will help out alot when you out there hunting in Everfrost Peaks, so you don't have to go to the vendor every couple of minutes. Enjoy.

Rastlore

P.S. Another thing some beginners barbarians don't know about is:

1) If you kill polar bear cubs, and you get a NON-RUINED Polar bear pelt, you should return it to Cindl (at Mac's Kilts). She will give you a piece of tattered patchwork armor (great for beginners) and 1 gold and some experience.

2) If you get some gnoll teeth, don't destroy them, return them to Lysbith McNaff (3 at a time) and you will get some minor coin, rations, and some experience.

The free containers are good for newbies as long they dont put the ingredients of that armor to make. Otherwise, if you have something in the containers and press combine, you wont lose the items. I have accidently done this before and only get a message that materials in container will not work to combine. If they do, then u made something and dont remember what you have in the container is diffent situation which we dont like to happen. I hope the best for the newbies and the rest of players.
RE: Free containers for newbies
# Feb 22 2001 at 2:44 PM Rating: Default
There is a third free container. Talk to Dok in Dok's Cigars and you can get another 6-slot bag (with a combine button).
RE: Free containers for newbies
# Aug 24 2000 at 9:55 PM Rating: Default
Ok whoever said to get the two free bags, sure this is a good idea but both the bags have combine on them. You'll get very pissed if u have a bag filled with items and hit combine. You should just save your cash and get backpacks and stop tryin to get free stuff heh. Just my 2cp
RE: Free containers for newbies
# Mar 01 2001 at 1:05 PM Rating: Default
Why do you want to buy backpacks when gnoll pup are full of bags, containers, wrist pouches and backpack; at level 4 my warior was selling extrabags nearly everytime i went in town just because my four backpack were making me uncombered too easily !
RE: Free containers for newbies
# Aug 23 2000 at 2:00 PM Rating: Decent
The polar bear pelts are white in color and you get good exp and the armor all the way to 4th lvl from Cini in the tailor shop. You can pick them upmany times just by looting dead corpses.
This is also the best (in my opinion) zone to practice tailoring as you can get patterns at the top of the ramp from the vendors for 1-2sp more than in Halas. Bear cubs are plentiful. The other good spot for tailoring is Kelethin and the black wolves outside the tree city.
Hunting the forks is a time saver and the polar bear cubs passing by are left to loot by many people doing the RapidLevel practice of killing everything available and leaving it.
