Home to Lord Yelinak and his Claws of Veeshan minions. This is a massive tower which can be entered through the Wakening Land or a portal in Cobalt Scar. With winding stairs, twisting caves, and a maze among numerous wurms, wyverns, and drakes, navigation can be tricky. Unless you are an ally of the Claws of Veeshan, you are best off avoiding the city of Skyshrine.

Not sure if this is relevant to anyone, or if anyone was curious, but Drakkin start out "threatenigly" to the sentries here. I recently started playing again and had to know, figure if I post here it will save someone else the hassle later.

Since this was one of those KoS zones from long ago, did anyone take into account that going to any of the previous hot zones would generate the almost instantaneous admittance to the ranger gate club apon entrance to this hot zone.

Or is it just me.....

Well, I have read the posts here and nothing is helpful based upon the current zone. The map from EQ Atlas is inaccurate. Can someone post a helpful hint on how to get through the maze please?

Follw these directions from the Maze entrance:

East at first 4 way till you get to the first port pad
hang a left (west.. you are following the regular marks on map probaly)
then on that second port pad you get ported up to the far north end of the maze. Walk south a bit off the port pad you just came in from, then walk back on it. Youll be ported back onto the regular path, which is marked on most maps as red lines. Head North now, and youll be ported to the east side of the maze. Now head Directly West , and you're out of the maze .

My old map (probably downloaded from mapfiend) has these red lines on it... but the trick is the "walk south a bit of the port pad you just came in from, then walk back on it"

Looking back on my enchanter epic there I had in my notes:

Upper Maze Part - "hug right to the first portal, hug left to the second, turn around and go straight to the last" to get through)

The Maze is really two levels and you end up walking a part of each of them

Ok ... I am a high elf cleric worshipping Tunare.

I seem to recall everyone starting out as KoS to these dragons.

I had never killed a giant in my life on this toon, and yet zoned into skyshrine one day to rez someone (figuring at 70 I could kill anything that attacked me)...and I conned *indifferent* to everything in there.

As I said, at that time I'd never killed a giant - I don't even think I'd been to Velious on that toon before.

The only thing I had as far as dragons go was max ally with Ring of Scale (which I'd gotten leveling up in Mistmoore ages ago).

None of the dragons in Skyshrine that I know of give hits to Ring of Scale when killed (I used to wack them a lot on my sk).

But is there a hidden connection between RoS and CoV faction that moves you out of KoS? It's the only way I have to explain why they didn't start out as kos to me (unless something has changed in the zone).

OK ... I'm trying to get the Twilight armor for my Bard. And he is amiable to CoV as viewed by all creatures in Skyshrine. But yet not one of the faction quest givers will speak to him. If I try and turn in any of the items for any of the faction quests, they all eat the items and tell him "I will not speak freely with you until you prove to be loyal to the dragon-kin of Skyshrine."

Any ideas? What's the point of a faction quest if you need to be allie first??

You need 'warmly' faction before anyone will talk to you. You gain CoV faction by killing frost giants and storm giants in Eastern Wastes and Kael Drakkel. The giants near the Arena give much bigger +CoV faction than the others.

If you want to check your CoV faction standing without going all the way to Skyshrine, the named wurm Kardakor in the wurm caves in Great Divide is on CoV faction.

Lieutenant Milven is the dragon in Skyshrine who accepts the toes and giant helmets. He will take them before he will talk to you. The helms give a far bigger faction boost than toes. Something on the order of 10 helms will raise you up a full faction level.

At indifferent the Lieutenant will take giant warrior helms to further raise your faction. He might have taken them at apprehensive but I skipped over that part somehow.

You need ally (and possibly max ally at that) to do the actual armor quests and such in here though.

Wack stuff in the arena for the highest faction hits, but anything in Kael will give you +CoV and some even give +Yelniak (or however it's spelled).

You need to be ally for the Thurg and Kael quests too, it's just how it is. If you clear out the Kael arena for a few hours you can easily get ally.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to the loc(s) of Guardian and/or Sentry spawn points that drop the armor pieces.

Have read thru the old posts, circa '02, and the locs don't seem to match with what I have seen on my first couple of forays.

Well I pushed in a bit further last night and found a spot to camp out Guardians. On the lower map for the main area there is a small courtyard just before the area with the big pool. There are 2 Gargoyle Guardians that are static spawns there. I was able to single pull them without any problems. There seems to be a single roamer, a Golem Patroller, that walks thru that area. I managed a Guardian Shield, Gorget, and Arms in about 3 hours.

As of yesterday, 4/18, or even before, the maze is bugged.

Looking at the Allakhazam maps, portal #1 no longer takes you to A, allowing you to access portal 3 from the south so you can get to C and thus exit the maze.

Instead, portal #1 now takes you to N on the upper level, and as far as I can tell, there's no way to get to portal #3 or overcome portal #2, 7, or 8 and exit the maze.

I put in a very detailed petition, even saw a GM on for a short time, but haven't been contacted.

Today (April 21, 2004) I got a nasty shock when I was being the savior and leading someone through the maze. It's the second teleport that takes you to a new spot. That spot is the blue I on the upper level (using eqatlas.com map). But, using that to your advantage, the blue I portal you're standing on will take you to the same place as the red B portal that's broken. Just move off the portal to the southeast, turn around and walk back onto it to be ported to the area labelled B and I. Step by step:

1. Go east/ follow the right hand wall until you teleport (blue A on map).
2. Follow the left wall until you teleport (red B on map).
3. Walk southeast a little way, turn around and go back northwest to activate the portal you were standing on (blue I on map).
4. Walk straight ahead (north) to teleport (red C on map).
5. Turn around and walk west to teleport (blue D on map [maze exit]).

If you're nervous about trusting portal B to take you to the wrong place, you can also follow these directions which have always been an alternate route:

1. Go east to the blue E - teleport.
2. Work your way southward to the blue N, making sure your path doesn't cross another letter - teleport.
3. Go south and quickly turn west, hugging the right-hand wall to the blue I - teleport.
(now you're in the same spot as the old way of going through)
4. Go north a short ways to the red C - teleport.
5. Turn around and go west to the blue D - exit.

For reference, the old way is: Follow the right wall to port (blue A), follow the left wall to port (red B), go straight to port (red C), turn around and go forward to port (blue D).

Red B now takes you to blue I.

Also of note, the red and green gem portals (in what's labeled Yelinak's lair on the eqatlas maps) have changed - also a nasty surprise for my un-SoWed self - the one on the right no longer takes you to the bottom level of skyshrine. It takes you to the Eastern Wastes side of Kael Drakkal!

Followed Zal's instructions and made it through the maze with no problems :) Thanks for the info :)

Once you exit maze you are in a big room with one large gate in front of you. Open gate and click on the big bluegreen orb to enter the first floor of the tower.

The game has passed most of the shaman skyshrine armor quests by but it was still fun to make my way through skyshrine and do the turn ins :)

For shaman turn ins, the NPC mob did not respond at first so I ran around and hailed other NPC until they responded and then went back to the Shaman NPC mob and he responded! Weird but it worked.

Ok, I'm a wiz and just want to get my port spells from here. SS is the only place that I have found that I can get three of my ports from. I have gone there with my human wiz, and my dark elf mage and the vender says "don't you humans/dark elfs have your own merchants? I'm not selling anything to you" is this a faction thing or just the race thing. what race should I have to be able to deal with the merchants to get my wiz spells?

My guess is this is a faction thing, you need CoV (dragon) faction in Skyshrine. Get it by killing Kromrif & Kromzek giants, best place is Kael.

Supreme Laochsmith Psorin is the mob who gives back the customized helm. He's now located in Yelinak's Lair at the very top of the zone.

I am sure that this question has been answered partially or fully before, but i am going to have to ask again. If I want to do Skyshrine armor (Myrmidon Armor) i have to kill a bunch of giants to get the faction up with CoV...pls correct me if im wrong...but, the unadorned stuff that is part of the guest drops off of Dragons in ToV, more specifically HoT. Correct? If that is so, wouldnt i be hurting my faction with CoV by killing dragons in ToV, ultimately ruining the faction that i worked hard for to be able to talk to the quest NPC? Pls help me out and i appreciate all responces. Thanks

Good question. But no. The area where you kill dragons for SS armor drops doesnt give faction hits at all (halls of testing). You need good faction just to walk by the CoV faction dragons to get to HoT, as well as armor turn-ins.

Yes, it's an area which apparently has been designed by the dragon-kind to test the strengths of its allies. You are safe from faction-harm in there.

For anyone new who looks through here, don't ruin your CoV faction. You'll regret it later. You may get some spiffy middle-range item off the guards, but later you'll be busting your **** to raise that faction to ally again.

The Giant Toes and Giant Warrior Helmets Quest can be done starting at dubious.

The Circlet of Falinkhan Quest was doable at Warmly faction.

The Draconic Pauldrons Quest is also new and reportedly requires Ally faction.

Yo.

ok, let me start off from the jump and say this: doing single pulls to EW or WL -zones inside Kael works but its SLOW work......especially if yur 51+ and yur killing greens. that BLOWS.

(this advice works best if yur a class that can Gate, as U'll passby mobs that can see thru invis and U WONT wanna passby them a 2nd time. its easier just to gate outta there, and faster too. if yur not a caster, U'll have to get a port or an xloc out since most grps dont leave the way they came in.)

now, here's the fastest way to gain faction w/COV (U may not get any xp, but ya may not need it either): join in on/follow a ANY Kael raid happening in there atm.

most raid leaders will allow U to tag along w/them as long as U follow their rulez and dont get over-eager and mess up pulls or aggro. and the same rulez apply for the giants here that I said in my other tip about Ring War giants.....DONT cast big spells or get close to the mobs ya want to hit; toss a weak spell or an arrow/throwing knives/shuriken at them. the effect is the same.

if yur just following a raid grp and arent part of it then U MUST be careful about wat U do, and even then sometimes its not enuff. sometimes mobs manage to gate from its beating to some remote part of Kael, and then the summonings begin. that REALLY sucks, but its a risk U take just being there. the only thing U can do is ask the raid leader if U can have assistance retrieving yur corpse and *hopefully* getting a rez. (which should be pretty easy if things have gone smoothly 'tween U and the raid party in regard to yur tagging along. most ppl will help ya out, but then again......ya never can tell right? /shrug)

now, how fast does 1 get from KOS to "Hi there Soandso! pleased ta meetcha!" w/COV? well, look at it this way: I went on 2 Kael raids in the same week and was at indiff to the mobs in CS; after about 3 (to 5 more tops) I was ally, and can do single pulls in CS in front of Yvlocarn (sp?) with np.

and there U have it. have fun & safe pulls guys!!

Searched for 3 hours yesterday and CANNOT find the NPCs for the Skyshrine armor quests. Got a ton of guildies, but no mobs to turn them into.

Armor quest mobs are now in the Library (first door on the left after clicking the globe after exiting the maze).

The bank is now in the room where Commander Leuz used to be (the guy for the Bracer of Benevolence quest).

Skyshrine changed drastically with yesterday's patch! Mobs and their placement have all changed. Since I haven't gone beyond the first few rooms, I can't comment on that, but I'll note what's changed up front.

First, the named quest Sentries (Kcor, Emil) have been replaced by non-named golems. In Ziglark Whisperwing's old room, there's now a merchant that sells generic equipent (food, drink, bandages etc.). Where Whereas before with Amiable Claws of Veeshan faction I could converse and do minor quests with them, now all mobs I've spoken to thus far tell me that I need to prove myself (i.e. raise faction) before they'll speak with me more. Looks like it's time to start slaying some more giants.

Checking on track, I can also see that the rest of the zone has undergone comparably drastic changes of inhabitants.

Looks like the Sleeper's awakening has caused a lot of chaos for Lord Yelinak and his watchful servants. I expect that the updates will be rolling in soon.

Hunting entrance area (level 38-49)

Here's my guide that me (47 SHD), my wife (49 CLR), and our good friend (43 ROG) more or less worked out while hunting Skyshrine from 35/6-present.

Now currently we're hunting the CY area, so I can't write much about that just yet. However, if you have a friend or 2 that you want to get some experience with and also a chance at Guardian/Sentry armor without doing the CY, here you go.

Now when you first go into Skyshrine from WL, you will come up to a gate, guarded by Sentry Enots and Sentry Kcor. Word to the wise....they might be green, but they have an insane amount of hitpoints...don't waste your time fighting them, they don't drop anything. Instead, invis up, go through the gate, and to the right. Go up the stairs, and first thing you'll see is Sentry Emil (a large-sized velium golem). In the room to the left is Ziglark Whisperwing, and Guardian Selbbep. We don't want all of them at once, they're pain enough alone lol. Instead go down the hallway to the right, and park at the end.

Buff up, and have your puller proximity aggro Sentry Emil. To do this, just walk to the doorway into the room, and you should only have to take a step or 2 before he aggro's.

After he's dispatched, your puller goes into the room where Emil was, but he/she hugs the left wall. Make sure Ziglark Whisperwing isnt in line-of-sight, and inch your way towards Guardian Selbbep. When you get close enough he'll aggro, and come alone. Kill him and then you get clean shot at Whisperwing. He's a Paladin and LoH's himself. Best thing we found is to just have everyone try to kill him as fast as possible...that means Clerics nuking + stunning as well. Make sure above all things that every pull is snared. If not? Hey I warned you :)

Next, you can pull the 2 smaller Sentries that are in the room just to the right of your camp point.

If you go just a couple feet to the right of camp, you'll come to the entrance to a small room with 2 Sentries at the end of it. I haven't found an easy way to single pull them, instead we just rush them...they're not that hard, a nice relief from the likes of Sentry Emil hehe.

After that, if your group needs mana, go ahead and get it, you have 30 mins until your next pop (Sentry Emil). However, if you have mana, you can go back down towards the entrance to Skyshrine (WL), but instead of going left and out the gate, continue straight ahead and up the stairs. There you can find other wonderous freaks to pull/kill :p

Anyhow, we did that pattern and ended up with Sentry BP/Boots/Pauldrons/Robe/Leggings and a few other things too that I can't remember just yet hehe.

I was just wondering how to get the key to Skyshrine or whatever key everyone calls the SS key...which I was under the impression was Skyshrine hehe. If anyone can help, my thanks and appreciation.

Is it possible to just come to this zone and find a group, or should you have a group befor coming here? I am on The Tribunal, and want the armor that drops here. If your trying to start a group here and need a 41 warrior give me a tell.

No - this isnt a zone thats really hunted much - so you are not likely to find a pickup group here.

Right now, I am max KoS to CoV.

What area would the 40-50 wyverns and wurms be located? How are they situated? Would it be plausable to kill them without aggroing everything in the area?

A wurm lord's shawl sounds mighty tastey right now. :)

I was kos to cobalt drakes in Cobalt Scar... after about 4 hours in Kael, I am amiable to them :). Killing the NAMED guys in the Arena and so fort of Kael are the guys you want for fast/good +CoV faction

My main is a level 50 necromancer. I am wanting to twink my warrior alt with Guardian Armor. Which Guardians could I possibly solo (if any). The bulk of my playing time comes when normal people are in bed and I rarely see anyone else there. When I have gotten a group there, in peak hours, I never have long to stay. So far my twink has the pants.

As anyone trolling this section of the board knows Guardian armor drops in SS. This has to be the absolute best looking armor on most races with velious graphics engaged. (Pre-Luclin as well)

I have hunted here for near 15 levels and all of my alts have almost full suits of guardian or sentry armor. I recommend that the minimum level you come into here with would be 35, that is only if you are grouped with someone who can solo pull the mobs or a 40+ enchanter/bard/necro who can mess adds. The CY is by far the best place to hunt for Guardian because it offers you 2 options to zone out of during a train, running back to WL zone in or using your key and jumping out through the statue into CS. Witha smart puller and a good group you can park inside the courtyard and smoke the area.

The best place to stage is to head in from WL, or CS zone with entire party invis. When you enter the courtyard look for the lone Gargoyle guard in the corner by himself. HAVE A SNARER!! Cannot recommend this enough. A running mob gathers alot of adds here. Make sure Snare sticks and kill corner mob. If you cannot single pull the mobs your in luck. Inside SS counts as both a dungeon and an outside zone. ALL SPELLS WORK HERE. All the outdoor spells from druids and ranger, and all the inside spells from shaman and such. If you have a druid or ranger your GTG because Harmony pulls work wonders here. Not sure if one will add when you pull Harmony the rest around it and pull at your leasure. When pulling the courtyard avoid the trio of Wyverns at the far end, one is an enchanter, one is a shaman and the other is a cleric. BAD trio and I cannot seem to get them single ever. They're not your target anyways. No good drops off those birds and not worth the time.

Anyways, From the corner with the Gargoyle guard work your way through the two guardians on the same side of the CY and then over to the pair of birds opposite. Harmony tnhese two and pull Yaced first, he's a warrior and easy kill. After he is dead you can pull Zalverez, wizard birdie with nasty nuke spells. Have your healer ready. Once both birds are down you can move to the 2 guardians on the same side as them. Guardian Tion and Guardian Salva. Tion is a warrior and has a fairly decent MR, Salva has a little lesser MR but is a cleric and will gate on you. If he does your in for a bad fight because he will path back at half health and then bring friends. Cleric and paladin Stuns and bashes from tanks help here ALOT!!

Once your done with those guardians your either going to need to wait for gargoyle to pop in the corner on you again or you have killed the other 6 mobs fast enough to keep pulling.

Once you kill the gargoyle guard in the corner start your timer. All mobs in CY have a 30 minute respawn. If you have enough time keep working your way around the courtyard in a counter clockwise fashion until you reach the trio of wyverns again and stop and wait for corner. Lower level groups will have to stop and wait longer due to down time. Make sure to harmony pull anything you decide to try.

FD does not work great in CY because once a mob has been pulled off his spawn point pathing usually causes them to agro on the next KOS pc in the area.

One last word of warning. STAY OFF THE WALLS WHILE FIGHTING!!!! There is a pathing bug here that if whoever the mob is agroed on is up against the wall he make a huge circuative route to come at you and most likely agro any other mobs he goes near.

If a mob begins to run and it is not snared, ZONE, no if ands or butts about it, get out, he's going to bring a buttload of friends.


Well, I hope this has helped anyone out looking to get some sweet guardian for themsaelves. The best map I have found is on www.eqmaps.com on the map list. It is a zip file of about 6 seperate maps with all the spawn locations and what mobs they are. I can say without a doubt it is one of the most accruate maps I have come across.

Interesting post, but I've never had any problems with trains in this zone, pulled the guardianls in the courtyard right thru the drakes and they never agroed as long as you dont stand in the courtyard fighting they shouldnt help. I like to pull them to a safe spot out of the way of Sentrys and NPCs that like to buff and heal the one your fighting. Seriously tho I once accidently pulled the bouncer in the bar instead of the named guardian took him out to courtyard and zoned to CS and never got anyone chasing me but him, probably should have killed him but didnt want bad faction hit with no chance of armor drop. Also Im fairly new to the area but have been soloing here with single pulls for about 4 days now.

Probably reason Im not getting agro and adds is I've been working on faction for months the guardians and sentrys con kindly to me at this point. Im sure if I fall to below dubious they will all agro. To fight safe in this zone kill your giants in GD, WL or Kael. To check factions in GD you can con the dragon in the Shardwurm caves. I worked my COV to warmly before I even started fighting in SS

I decided to try out playing on the side of the giants with my alts. They are a 32 war and 32 clr duo. I seem to be finding it difficult to do however. Dwarves and wolves in Great divide are all even con and blues now, and from what I can gather, Skyshrine is a bit too high level for them (they can take single yellows and low reds without too much trouble)
They are currently dubious to giants so they cant do anything but bank in Kael, bags are full of Coldain heads and are bored silly with GD. I have about 200 kobold paws from VL for them as soon as they can do that quest, but it is very slow going.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where they can hunt stuff that is about 33-35 and get positive Kael factions at the same time? Would perfer non casting mobs, but they aren't too picky.

ok now im yet to see anything about the armor... i want to know what lvl a bard should be in order to group here... how ever im thinging lvl 20 with mana song wouldnt be to hard to find a group here.

but i want to know is what lvl i need to be in order to have a chance to survive here

Sorry, but lvl 20 is not gonna cut it here. I would think that you need to be a minimum lvl 35, and 40 being much more in line with hunting in SS. A bards manna song at lvl 20 is not going to cut it when a group can have a chanter with crack at lvl 29. Either way, neither a 29 chanter nor a 20 bard will be able to charm or mez the required mobs. Wait till you are at least in your high 30's imo.

Most evenings, someone is camping the sentries near Ziglark Whisperwing and killing Ziglark too because he gets in the way. Usually you just have to ask them to let you loot the key and they will let you. This is easier than doing the quest which involves Wengelawks in Kael. Only one party member needs the key to get everyone into CS. You do not need a key to return, but you have to go into a room full of wyverns to do it so I recommend you have good CoV faction hehe.

Hi all,

Ive really taken an intrest in this zone and am wondering about hunting here. Im not planning on killing the gds (sentrys?) but what about some of the other things (cubes, spiders etc) ?

Are they on The dragons faction? or the the gds?

While im aimable to drwarfs now im still indef to these guys, and don't want to wack my faction just goofing around. Theres a lot of nice things that drop here so im wondering if anyone could post a lil bit of whats on faction, whats not etc.

And where is the dang bank? or a good map perchance?

I read somewhere that only one person in a group needs the key to zone into CS. Is this true?

If so I'm going to do this and pick up a tooth at the rings in CS.

When you zone in and find out your the only person you have 2 choices if you want the key:
Sit and wait or do it yourself:
Do it yourself if: You have Root

Invis to room and pull: you'll get 4, harmony only last a minute or less on quest sentries in the front...

Root the keyholder and zone.....
Come back in and whala, hes all by himself
Snare/Root and nuke till dead not that hard.

Same can be done easier with 2 people:
One pulls and one roots...

OK since its normally empty heres how you get the key:

Invis down the steps to the right and pull the room. root the key holder and zone. then come back in and root and dot until dead.... not too hard...
