Thurgadin is the home of the Coldain dwarves of Velious. It is a thriving city full of shops and taverns, a library, and a bank. They're a little apprehensive of outsiders, but will allow you into their city provided you haven't already made enemies of the Coldain by slaughtering their kind on the outside.

Mobs up after a failed ring war attempt:

All dwarves, lying on their sides, like dead, but with full health bars, and on the one I checked, not able to be /open. A gutted guard, a murdered merchant, a conquered coldain, a gored guard, a perforated priest. There were lots and lots of these guys all over the place. Only one priest that I saw though. All grey to level 70. Oh, and a Bludgeoned Banker, lying on the top of the banker counter. There was no pretend corpse for the other one, so I wonder if he was kidnapped, or maybe even eaten by the bloodthirsty giants. I keep finding new ones: A punctured priestess. A Butchered Butcher.

travelling to velious
# Jun 13 2003 at 11:59 PM Rating: Default
Hi all,

I just recently enabled my Scars of Velious expansion; however, I'm confused on how to use it. I don't see the velious continent on any maps, nor can I see a way to start a character there, so how do I get to velious at all?

Do I need either of the two newest expanions, Planes of Power or Legacy of Ykesha, in order to get to velious?

Thanks in advance.

There is a ship you can take to Velious.

If you have Luclin, however, it is easier to wait at the Velious Spire for the port down. Go to the Nexus and go to the Spire with the two Erudites, one will be Odus Scion and the other Velious Scion. Wait till it says "Now porting to Velious" or whatever and get on, then you'll be transported down.

Hope this helps :)

Great, thanks. I do have Luclin. Is anything KOS in Velious? I have a Vah Shir in Luclin now.

Are high elves KOS in Luclin, because I have a high elf wizard over in Felwith that can get to Luclin.

Just curious, where does the ship leave from to get to Velious?

You can't be KoS in any Luclin cities; unless you have killed residence of the area. (excluding any cities with bandits, monsters ect.)

In case you haven't already figured this out, when you log in, at some point you will see a button that says enable expansion. You type the product key in, and this will allow you to use the expansion.

I already enabled the Velious expansion. My question is how can I get to it. Can you travel there by ship, or do you have to teleport there? Is there another way to get there, or to play a character in Velious?

mines
# Apr 17 2003 at 11:21 PM Rating: Decent
No one has really commented on how easy the exp here is for 35-40 , go to the mines and just starting whipping everything in sight it takes no more then 2 blues of mana for a 36 BL to kill any one thing and the exp is awesome a blue or more per kill. The goos drop the best loot and are the best exp , spiders are extremely Magic Resistant, and are crappy exp and hit very hard and fast but they are still easy to kill solo , the bats are medium and give the 2nd best exp and the rats are just pitifully easy. And if your a melee or just need a heal once you exit the mines run right passed icewell when you hit a T section turn right again and run into the fort, Battlepreist BlahBlah will heal you for 300 2 times automaticaly if you have a mob on you so whenever im at low health i just grab a spider or something run him to the fort get healed and watch 16 coldain kill one spider its quite fun.

Invis potions can be bought almost anywhere. Alchemy supply merchants carry bottles called cloudy potion. They cost about 12 plat [to my troll with CHA buffs].

Most people start off apprehensive to the coldain. My Dark Elf did. Best way to raise faction with them is to kill Frost Giants in Eastern Wastes, Iceclad, or Great Divide. For some reason, the giants in Kael don't give much Coldain faction.

Of course, if you like having Kromriff or Kromzek faction, this method won't work.
building faction w/dorfs
# Nov 29 2002 at 12:49 AM Rating: Good
Yo.

the BEST & EASIEST way to gain faction w/Thurg is to hang around the waterfall entrance in GD (or in EW) and wait for a Ring War sequence to start.

U'll have to travel around a bit but U can usually find out where the fighting will begin (note: ya do this at yur own risk. there IS some danger......)

once ya find where the actions starts, let the group/guild engage the mobs for awhile....and then toss a small spell or hit'em with an arrow/throwing knives/shuriken.

(note: make sure its a tiny spell ya toss, and do it from a safe distance, AND make sure U only do it once.)

U wont, or rather shouldnt, do any dmg on the mobs but just taking a swipe at them will count as a hit and add towards faction; +dorfs and -giants.

I went from apprehensive to high amiable/warmly in 1 night. hunting in GD/EW some more, plus 1 more RW got me to ally.

total time: 2 weeks. it was cake!

(see my post in the SkyShrine section for easiest way to gain faction w/wurms)

Hello =)

Just wondering how tough it would be for a lower level (17ish)human to survive in this town long enough to get some things for trade skills? How would they go about getting there?

Thanks and have a great day!
RE: How Tough
# Jul 27 2003 at 4:19 AM Rating: Decent
What's there to survive from? This is a safe place to visit, even at low lvs. (I must warn you though; falling off an icy ledge obviously will kill you, and do not go into any snowy tunnels that turn off from the city's roads. I found only death in those tunnels - skeletons) If you want tradeskill supplys, the bank area has a merchant for every tradeskill and a forge, loom, brew-barrel, pottery wheel and kiln. The perfect place to practice tradeskills considering you have enough money. Hope this helps. Good luck! Smiley: smile
Hunting in Thurg
# Aug 16 2002 at 10:50 PM Rating: Good
I'd just like to say something for us poor people who do believe we can hunt in Thurg. It is possible, just tricky. First thing is it seems that ALL the guards are very magic resistant. That adds alot of spice to the fight. *grin* If pulling the front guards either get a monk with a throwing item to split them or don't try. It's not easy at all. If you have a monk with a throwing item, make sure he pulls all the way down the tunnel to the zoneline, so when the dwarf starts running, you have the longest amount of time before it makes it to the town. If you have to pull singly that is possible too. Go to the Icekeep zoneline and sit near there (Get there with invis or invis potions), have the puller pull the roamers that come by the crossroads near it. Once the mob starts running go all out! Get the cleric, enchanter, everyone to beat on it before he makes it to the bars... if worse comes to worse just zone. Training there effects noone. *grin* So to sum it all up, coldain killers get nothing to help them in Thurg. Poor wizards and other nuking classes must sit outside, for the magic resist will stop them from doing anything... At least hunting in Thurg is a change in pace...

Near the Icewell Keep zone there is a series of mines and tunnels that is some pretty nice hunting for mid 30. Heck, if a CLERIC can solo there and get nice xp, you know its easy :)

The "goo" will drop coldain heads, which can be sold to folks for faction in Kael. They drop 2-4 plat per kill. Get a small group together and you can go down to level and clear the entire thing. Just me and a rogue (both gnomes, if that matters) keep entire area clear for a long time.

RE: Coldain Heads
# May 22 2001 at 11:54 AM Rating: Good
Heads can be used for two quests in the Giant city to raise Giant faction. Depending on which quest you do, you could lose Dwarf faction, in addition, to Dragon faction.

Captain Bvellos at bank in KD will raise all Giant factions, drop Dragon
kromrif recruiter will raise Storm/Frost, drop Dwarf/Dragon

I've never done the recruiter quest, but the Captain's quest is very good faction for each of the heads.
Drops/factions/l3wts
# May 03 2001 at 12:27 AM Rating: Default
All of the quest armor drops behind the arena in kael and tormaxes guards. You must have amiable faction to recieve any of this armor. The gems drop in Velk, DN, Icewell, CS, WW, Sirens, and rarelly in kael. There are several long quests that will raise your faction with the dorfs in thurd. I suggest the easiest way is to kill the many giants and wolves in the great divide. Also the giants on the lower floors of Kael give dorf faction but otherwise are useless. This is slow but it will eventually bring up your faction. No one is KoS upon entering Thurd for the first time. If you kill the dwarfs in Icewell or in the Great Divide it will lower your faction gradually. They are rare drops in the area around Kael. On each raid we usually get a max of 2 to 3 peices of the cleric items, and almost the same ratio for the other classes(keep in mind that we pull almost everything in the area, spend long periods of time there, and with smaller events the ratio will not be the same) Overall not many people will see any of these peices. Its taken me about 7 raids for one of the cleric bracers and the guantlets. Good luck and I hope this helps

When you kill the Dire Wolves make sure you are only killing Drakkel Dire Wolves. There are Dire Wolves tamed and trained by both the giants and the dwarves, and you will lose faction for killing the pets of whatever race you kill.

I have read the others posts and from what I gather the trash area in Icewell Keep is the only area to get the crushed opals, black marbles, crushed flame emeralds, etc. Is there any other place to get them that any knows of and from what MoBs?

Also, theses quests require ancient tarnished armor, or unadorned armor, but they don't give any clues as where I can get them. Does anyone have and idea if I can buy it or where and what MoBs drop it? I just made lvl 50 and I am still wearing bronze boots, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The poor Cleric.

Well, first off I should really ask whats the level range, I know you can look it up on this site but its not very solid info.

For the love of god, dont tell me to "Go con' things" becuase sweet Jesus I cant waste my time running through dragon filled SUPER-DANGEROUS zones to go and "Con' things"

Please dont flame, I know how to get there also, but I wanna know if theres groups there or if its empty, is it only meant for 45's-50's. Or around 39's-50

Any info is welcome... ANY info, hehe

Ask and ye shall recieve.

First, nobody starts KoS with the Coldain. You'll be apprehensive to them, being non-Dwarven.

Second off,one can start as early as 30th in Velious,in Thurgardin in fact. I was soloing the rats, bats, spiders and goos then, and have made four very nice levels doing so. A team of high 20's could do the same for nice xp and decent if not superlative loot(low end gems, crystalline silk nets, coldain heads, and coin up through 2-4 platinum+ on bats and goos). Once you get up a few levels, start exploring from there...Crystal Caverns is rather popular right now.

You cant get from Kunark to Veliuos Direct. You can however catch the Blated Belly ship from Overthere (be careful you are KOS) to Timorous deep (be careful again as you also KOS) then to Oasis via rafts called muck skimmers. Once in Oasis travel to NRO to where the pirate gnome jetty is and catch the raft again to Veliuos. Once you land on the other Island run to the jetty just on the other side and wait for the Icebreaker which will then take tou to the Iceclad Ocean mainland. From there its all up to you.

Where exactly do the quest armors (corroded plate, unadorned leather, worn fine silk, et. al.) drop? I have yet to see or hear of any dropping, would I have to go deep into Kael/Thurgadin/Skyshrine for them? Are they random off of any of the three major races of mobs (Coldain, Kromrif/Kromzek, Kin)? Or, just the higher level ones?
