This is a thick forest located on a hilly terrain. The east and west sides split into a gorge the further north you go, leading to the continent's coastline.

The Kromdul, a faction of forest giants, have established an outpost here, as have the Cleaving Tooth goblins. The Iksars of Cabilis have very little control over much of the forest, and stick mainly to their city boundaries in the southeast. These woods are also the burial ground of Haggle Baron Dalnir, whose crypt can be found in the northwest section of the forest.

Was goofing off on my rogue in WW and hit auto find instead of friends list. An Injured Traveler appeared in the auto find. Followed the trail to it and conned red to 28 rogue and 32 Paladin. Iksar of some kind, any ideas from anyone on what this might be?

Selling to Iksars
# Jun 03 2004 at 12:04 PM Rating: Good
Found out something that might be useful the other day. If you need to sell in here at anytime (or probally anywhere else with out see-invis) you just run up to a merchant (if they dont attack you first) and just hide successfully, and sneak succesfully and you can buy / sell to that merchant. They will vend to you as an indifferent mob. Also, be warned when you start trading you lose hide.

I came here with my 38 beastlord to farm some PoK focus armor pieces, and I have to say that it was one of the most agravating experiences I've ever had in EQ.

First of all, the pathing here is the worst that I have ever seen in any zone in EQ's history. My pet would get lost from me taking three steps up a hill. It was so bad that I had to zap the pet and cast a new one anytime I had to travel more than 10 steps. If that wasn't bad enough, the pet would stop attacking mobs randomly. It would just sit there and do nothing.

On my way to the Goblin fort, I got stuck in various places that required the use of /rewind. I got stuck next to a tree, on a hillside, and between some rocks. How I managed to get stuck simply running near a tree is beyond me.

When I finally reached the goblin fort, after two hours, a white-con Goblin Messenger jumps me. My stupid warder does nothing, so I basically solo it. When it gets down to about 45% health, it takes off running at near SoW speed. I've never seen a mob take off so soon into an encounter before. As it runs away, and I run behind it, my stupid warder gets lost again. After 15 minutes, I manage to kill the freakin' messenger, something that should have taken 45 seconds.

So I walk back to the camp, cast a new pet, buff it again, and attack the first greeny goblin at the gate. This time, the goblin starts to run away at 55% health! It dashes away at near SoW speed, and my pet doesn't even follow it. The goblin disappears into the fort and three more greenies come after me. My lovely pet is just sitting there watching me, not attacking anything while I have three greenies nipping at my heels. As I get them down to around 55% health, they all dash away into the fort, bringing more greenies after me. After a while, I have a steady train of greenies constantly running back to me, at 85% health, then running away after I smack them around a bit, while my pet sits there licking itself. Of course, after about 20 minutes of this, the even-con Messenger spawns and agroes me.

So I had to zone, which sucks in a zone this huge. As I ran away, I crossed my fingers hoping I would not get stuck on some blade of grass or something. I spent over two hours here and only managed to kill 2 greenies.

Somewhere out there, satan is smiling on the SOE developer that designed this zone.

It amazes me how afraid people are to explore zones they haven't been to... it's half the fun of the game! (well, not quite, if it were this would be a pretty lame MMORPG ;)) Learn from experience, it'll make you smarter & able to give someone advice based on something other than hearsay.

First time I came to WW (level 19): Fell to my death because I forgot I was encumbered with Selo's ;) Corpse run.
Second time: Attacked a blue giant I came across along the path, got it down to 50% health when three goblins added, rooted and poisoned me... another corpse run.
Third time: Turned invis song on, just to explore. Lull-split a couple goblin camps. Got green-swarmed in the goblin fort. Killed some giants by the fort bridge, realized it was easier to kill out there without getting adds. Went home with a leg-chopper.
Fourth time: Found a giant group, 6 yellow bubbles in one night, another leg-chopper.
Fifth time: More exploring, decided to look around in Dalnir a bit, discovered the brute camps in the tunnels. Now I'm a rich(er) bard, those things drop gems like nothing else.

At 26 now, I'm camping the brutes while looking for giants groups, no signs of slowing down... once I outgrow this zone I'll just look at EQAtlas's hunting guide by level and try a new zone out, see which ones work & which ones don't.

And if you have to ask the message boards for some reason, at least read the previous posters... most likely the answer to question you're asking is already there. Or just look in the bestiary to see what levels most of the mobs are, and read a couple comments on ones around your level. From what I can tell, mob difficulty doesn't vary that much around this level... unless you're attacking casters ;)

Explore, die, learn from your mistakes. It's the only way you'll ever truly know anything.

Now that we have PoP portals, most zones in the game are but 2-3 zones away.
I too wish that more people would explorer EQ, the newer people to the game are missing out on some realy great zones and exp/loot camps.
I personally think the problem is the exp bonus in a few zones (Paludal/HHK) have killed of the rest of the lower end game. Why go anywhere else when you can fly threw the levels in hours.
It's very hard to put a pickup group together and convince them to go to one of the less popular zones now, which is a shame.
I wish more people would take the time to explorer EQ, they never know what they'll find.
Quote:
Exploring is fun, yes, but IRL explorers don't just run out into the wilderness with nothing but the shirt on their back. They prepare. They gather information and bring equipment suitable to the dangers. They reduce the risk.

Always do a little research on a new zone you are travelling too. Find a map, check here for a list of mobs and loot. find out any special conditions or features in that new zone. Be propared and enjoy exploring.... good luck :)

As for Warslik's Woods... I love the zone. Plenty of mobs to hunt and these days, I normally have the zone to myself, due to it's lack of popularity.
Currently I have my 25 Iksar Beastlord there, soloing in the Forest Giant Fort. He's been there since level 24. I might move him over to Brute camp, cause he'll need the cash for spells soon. Too get to WWoods, take the PoP portal from PoK to The Overthere. From the Overthere portal book, run due East along the water till around neg 3200 - pos 3200. Turn South and follow the zone wall untill you see the path at approx neg 3200 - neg 100. Face the zone wall and run up the hill, away from the end of the path. The WWoods zone line is just up the hill.

i personally enjoy the "less popular zones" because...1) less peeps there to ks. 2) better loot for less exp (at least it seems that way to me) and 3) more camps open for choosing a mob or item that i want for that day. Warslik is a good example of that. giants (and leg choppers) are a good way to go at lvl 25 or so for necro soloing. Might like to find that brute fort i heard about earlier...i have a halfling needing more hides.

These and many other reasons are why people are very cautious about places they haven't been to yet. XP loss sucks and the higher you are the worse it gets meaning many hours of play can be wiped out with a simple mistake. Not being able to find your corpse or having your corpse fall someplace where it is unretrievable is another risk most people would rather avoid. People are also cautious about taking risks fighting in a zone where the payoff may not be worth the effort. Thats why Allakhazams and other sites exist. So players can check out the zone and the mobs to determine if it's really worth their time or not. Exploring is fun, yes, but IRL explorers don't just run out into the wilderness with nothing but the shirt on their back. They prepare. They gather information and bring equipment suitable to the dangers. They reduce the risk.

Then hunted inside. soloed and group with a wiz. got great exp here. i think i am going to stay until 28 or 29. i hope. saw the forest loop 3 times got it on random roll only once. sold it immiditly for 200p. it is mainly for wisdom characters. plus i needed the money. once i ding 29 i think i am going to try my luck in frontier mountains.

Um, for future reference, merchants will pay like 290pp for a Forrest Loop if you have even halfway decent CHA. Thats why they are never cheaper than that in the Bazaar.

Can my 19 Druid solo Giants here?
Don't med inside the fort right next to an inside wall
# Aug 05 2002 at 1:57 PM Rating: Good
I was in the giant fort in a safe spot and I was right next to the wall when I sat down to med. A few seconds later I was being hit by a giant. My 27 earth pet went after it and to my surprise it was a giant on the outside of the fort that was hitting me through the fort walls. Very strange but my pet did attack it, I did cast and kill it and did get experience but since it was on the outside of the fort, and I was inside it, I did not even try to loot the corpse. Just a little warning to move a little way away from the inside fort wall when you sit down to meditate.
Great spot in the giant fortress to hunt
# Aug 05 2002 at 8:49 AM Rating: Decent
I would suggest invise in and go to location -521 448, one of the corners of the fortress. We zoned in from The Overthere, headed down the trail, went in, turned left and hugged the wall. A very very great spot to pull the giants to. I was half way to 26 and leveled to 27 in 3 hours. I was with my 25 SK who made it to 26 before we left. We were buffed by a very kind and great 50+ Palladin, Agpar (hope I spelled it right), who gave us some great buffs to help us out. Great loot from the giants and great xp too. We pulled many a giant that conned black and a few that conned yellow.

A minor correction to above - it should read 'I was half way in to 26' and not 'I was half way to 26' sorry about that.
Tunnels to Lake of Ill Omen

If I want to take the tunnels to LOIO are there any creatures in the tunnels I need to worry about?
RE: Tunnels to Lake of Ill Omen
# Sep 30 2002 at 4:05 PM Rating: Decent
OH yes. There are plenty of iksar inside the tunnels, which are easy to get lost in. Then, on the LOIO side, you have to pass by lots of nasty goblins, and occasionally a level 40ish named one is up. I would not suggest going through these tunnels alone without both invis and SoW at least until you're closer to level 35.

Uhm, in my experiences running though the tunnels to LOIO is never a problem from WW is yuo hug the left wall. The Goblin you speak of has a pathing tat never reaches to that route. Long as you keep running you should be fine minus the rare Goblin Battlemaster you MIGHT encounter.

Also, of interest, just inside the tunnels from WW there are two side tunnels (You will find them inside at the + intersection where you can either go straight (towards LOIO) or left/right. Going either left or right leads to 2 caves each having skulking brutes that are far apart to simply run up to and single pull them. I made 3 levels there alone. It is so remote, most people passing through never even know about them. The exp alone and ability to sit down and med up bewteen fights is one of the best kep secrets of the Zone.

No need for Harmony, just be sure to pull in a straight line away from the hut until they're out of aggro range of the others. Snare, root an Dot. Med and repeat. Watch for wandering aggro.

Walk in the park. Good luck.

Yes you can. I am there solo'n them right now with my 24 druid. Just make sure you pull from the hut and not the giant town. I harmoney two, watch for passing mobs, pull one and kite. There is a good little field there to do this. Be careful of wondering mobs though.
