Quick Solo question...
# Mar 27 2002 at 7:50 PM Rating: Default
Can a lvl 30 Barbarian Warrior (full crafted armor, Wurmy, Centi LS) solo here? I can't think of anywhere to go now. Highkeep's exp is getting low, and Velious is still a little too high for me. I came across Dalnir, but have some hesitations about going there...anyone help?

Dalnir really isn't a solo zone...
For a lvl 30 the overthere is very good xp.
Dalnir is more of a low-midlevel level raid zone... there are a lot of mobs and many are casters so it can get tough, but the loot is decent and there's a nice xp bonus.

Undead in Dalnir's
# Mar 12 2002 at 12:01 PM Rating: Decent
Excuse me if this is a very stupid question what with it being a crypt.... But are most of the mobs in Dalnir's Undead? I'm a lvl 30 pally and am looking for somewhere new to hunt, I'm fed up with Unrest and Najena. I'm distinctly ordinary against normal mobs but the nature of the pally spells and my Ghoulbane make pretty effective against Undead. Is Dalnir's the place for me? Or should I go elsewhere?
RE: Undead in Dalnir's
# Mar 13 2002 at 9:45 AM Rating: Decent
I think there are a couple undead mobs in the zone, but not very many. Mostly dark elf, erudites, dorfs, sarnaks, and blobs of goo. This is a nice zone, good loot, but bring your own group. On Tarew Marr I rarly see more than 3 or 4 people in the zone, and they are farmers. Good luck finding a new zone though, you might try the dead side of Lower Guk. A Pally could live there up into his 50's.
Dropping through the floor in Dalnir
# Mar 07 2002 at 5:34 PM Rating: Good
I have found that I can minimalize my damage from dropping to the lower levels in this zone by simply jumping in and pressing forward into a corner... you will stick there and can turn towards the nearest corner and stick to that one... Repeat this until you drop. I have actually done this a couple times with NO damage at all, but usually get about a 20hp damage from the final drop. Just an FYI for those of us that don't have levitate! :-)
EXP pts. lost when you die.
# Mar 07 2002 at 12:31 PM Rating: Default
I have a question, does anyone in the world of EQ know why a lvl 36 cleric, killed by a coerced mob conned blue to her, would lose 1 1/2 yellow bubs of exp while I a lvl 36 wizzie was killed by a tag team of coerced gnomes(stupid lil people, would like to squish them...oh sorry, repressed anger) lost 2 - 2 1/2 bule bubs of exp? This greatly irrated my cleric friend and has all of us wondering: Is there an ACTUAL system to calculate lost exp when you die? We think that if you die from what ever colored mob, thats the amount of exp you should loose. Ex. a green kills you(pathetic, I know, but beleive me it happens) you should only loose a little amount of exp not the same amount of exp if you were killed from a red-conned mob. Anyone else having the same problems, let me know maybe altogether we can get Verant to change their policy of lost exp. Doubt it though but worth a try.

PS. Dalnir's rules. Been here from 32nd lvl and still here. Ready to go to the 2nd floor with my soon to be lvl 37 cleric and 37 warrior friends. They wanted to go there for better exp and I said that we better watch out since all the Kly's on the 2nd and or 3rd floor, from what I have read and researched, are wizzies and will hit very hard. On a non-related note, this is a question for any lvl 50 or higher mages that may read this: Is the magic items that you can summon, especially the Rod with 3 charges of mana conversion mage use only or can you give them to anyone? I am hoping to find this out soon for my cleric friend sho is very distraught at the price of a manastone these days.
RE: EXP pts. lost when you die.
# Aug 09 2002 at 12:05 PM Rating: Decent
Actually XP is awarded by difficulty of class and race. (Exp a DEF NEC gains XP quicker due to the difficult of class compared to a HEF CLR.) The downside to this is that when you die you lose more XP. (Exp. a DEF NEC loses 3 blues to the HEF CLR's 2)
RE: EXP pts. lost when you die.
# Apr 18 2002 at 5:22 PM Rating: Default
The amount of XP lost, depends on the amount of XP you had to gather in order to get through your previous level.

So back in the days when hell levels were still in the game, if you died at level 36, the amount of XP lost would be based off level 35, which was a hell level. Therefore, you would lose a greater portion of the XP gathered on your current level...

Hope I didn´t confuse you too much... it´s way past my bed time =)

I'm guessing it's because the cleric died back when hell levels were still in effect, and the wizard afterwards. 36 was a post-hell-level, and you would lose a yellow or more of experience. With the level smoothing which happened a couple of weeks before this post, 35 is no longer a hell level, and 36 has no more experience loss than other levels.
RE: EXP pts. lost when you die.
# Mar 26 2002 at 2:05 PM Rating: Decent
To be honest with you, I believe it should be the other way around. If a GREEN mob kills you, you should lose MORE experience because obviously you are unworthy of your level. If a RED con kills you, as in getting killed by a higher level's TRAIN or a failed invis while traveling, you should lose less experience as there wasn't as much you could actually do.
RE: EXP pts. lost when you die.
# Jun 18 2002 at 7:46 PM Rating: Decent
I wholeheartly agree! If a green kills you you should lose more xp than if a red kill you

RE: Crescent armor...

You will have a tough time soloing there at 34. The monk armor is no drop. Most of it drops in areas you will need invis and lev to get to, not a problem for a druid but there are many casters and no room to kite.

Here goes nothing.

Me, 41 pally, and my bro, 30 necro, are going to bring my lv 4 monk in here and get him some Cresent stuff. Then we will gate him out with a Wiz or a Druid. It could work. We'd have to go invis from Oasis and camp right in Dalnir. When we get the drops, camp and incomes the monk.

Wish us luck.

Dalnirs Tactics
# Jan 04 2002 at 6:28 PM Rating: Excellent
Dalnir is the location for several quests for my Iksar brood including Trooper Scale Bracers for warriors, and Mystic Scale Bracers, for shamans. Any mid level monk who wants to upgrade his
armors to Crescent armor or to grab a fighting baton comes here also. The Crescent is no-drop so
they have to pick it up in person. It drops from any of the sarnaks on the 2nd level and 3rd lvls.

The non-aggro mobs are the 'wormy' things (Ravenous Nibblers,) and they are really non-aggro
even though they con 'attack'. You can sit and med right under it and it will not attack. Be careful
to test its aggro by walking next to it when you are looking for something to kill and leave it alone
if does not attack you. Some of them are aggro and some are not so you have to test the aggro
before you know for sure. The aggro radius is less than the coerced mobs but more than just 2
steps away; more like 5 steps away

I was in a group before where we got the entire 2nd floor to pop as those non-aggro's excpet the
Imprecator (two spawns in his room), the two Lumpy goo's, and the one Iksar prisoner guy. It was
great because we owned the floor with relatively no chance of death due to add's. Everybody got a
2Hpractice sword and we had to let at least 2 rot since they are Lore.

I was in a group the other day with Buzzek (35 necro) and 4 others with a 36 druid as main healer
and we held the 2nd floor again. Including pulling Imprecator when he popped. All was fine until the
puller decided that since the whole floor except our few spawns were non aggro that he would
clean out the nibblers too. Next thing I know we had no place to rest in the pool room anymore
since we would keep getting adds of coerced mobs as we were fighting. The druid got down to 5%
health and gated out, the SK tank went down with corpse getting stuck in the pool room wall, and
the other three of us were oom and/or under 10% health. Even though I was group leader and said
to not kill the non aggro's in the pool room, the puller got impatient waiting on a spawn and the
result was our 2nd floor was no longer held, and group broke up waiting on corpse retreival for ogre
SK and for the druid to zone back. Our group split up after that long delay and called it a night.
We got 2 practice swords, 1 fighting baton, 3 pieces of crescent armor, and tonz of exp with the
dungeon bonus on top of our group bonus; all in about 2 hours. Lesson learned again, do not pull
the non-aggro's especially in the pool room if you dont want add's to the fight and interrupts during
resting/medding. (Not to mention fatalities.)

By the way during the time that the pool room was non-aggro we would occasionally have a LD in
our group, and no problem just re-add or re-group when came back. If that happened during time of
aggro-pool-room, then you cant adjust or wait for a relog.

I spent about 2 weeks in Dalnir, off and on... I would highly recommend it for levels 29-39. Exp gain is excellent, I went from 35 to 39 in a week without dying, dinging 36-37-38 3 days in a row! After 39, exp slows down a lot and at 40 you are wasting your time if you want exp. Our group started going there about L30-34, and had a bit of trouble at first; we'd go to L2 the pool room and clear it, then suddenly we'd get an over-pull or lots of pops at once. The trouble came when we tried to get out, the passage to the port pad has a lot of MOBs which can physically block your way out. You can of course Invis if you have the time, but sometimes you don't. Shrinking is VERY beneficial here... it can allow you to squeak through those guys and also you won't have to duck which can slow down the bigger players.
If you are under level 35 (talking full group here) and want to survive every time, just stay on the first level. The courtyard works well as a spot to pull to, and the MOBs there drop a variety of weapons that can sell for 20pp-100pp. If you are over 35, you can camp Lumpy and Imp from the pool room on L2 quite safely with a full group. Nice loot here, grave sandals and fighting batons that sell for 500pp, and other items.
Level 3 is a little harder, but it is overrated... we found better loot on L2. If you do go to L3, beware of the church and the room just after the one-way door... those can have several Kly in them which will all aggro at once. Also be prepared to get out; either a druid to port/evac, or invisibility to run to the port pad, or be ready to take on the Overseer! Don't be fooled by his con, he can proc for 700, and he can charm party members too.

Camped basement for 26 hours over 3 days for an Earring of Station. Started in the Chapel/Statue area but it got slow with only 11 static spawns, and 3-4 roamers, so I moved onto the main area with about 25-30 spawns of Kly. One day, I had 2 crescent gis, a headband, gloves, sarnak dagger, earring, 2hb, and imp items drop. The next day only crescent boots, and greaves dropped. I wasn't killing anything but kly because I was only after an earring, so I'm not sure about penkeepers/goos/etc drops. I killed two penkeepers with nothing but a nickel key. Imprecators dropped coin for tambourine quest and fang for visceral dagger quest. They drop lots of FS, and up to 4pp per. Sarnak items (earrings, claws, bp, 2hb, etc) drop from casters, believer, acolytes (both shams), evokers, invokers (both wizzies), and I only saw Crescent drop from warriors; cohorts, followers.

Here is your answers....DROPS:
Tattered Tomb Shroud, Tattered Leg Wrappings, Tattered Arm wrappings, Fighting Baton, Grave Sandals, Robe of Dalnir, Sarnak Earring of Station, Sarnak Emblazed Tabard, Crescent armor, Visceral Dagger, Bamboo bo stick.

well....I know Dalnir from top to bottom, trust me. you need to camp the zone. for instance, if you clear the zone, you automatically have no chance of getting Visceral Dagger, Sarnak earring of station, Tattered tomb shroud, Fighting Baton, Grave Sandals.

Because things here are rare spawns, long camps, beginning of quests, rare drops, etc. and im suprised the monk in your group got no crescent armor.

My guild group has been hunting in Dalnir on Terris Thule for about 2 weeks now<Guardians of Night>. Althulian and company. We have been doin the ent, front of temple, and 2nd floor pool. We ususally try to leave the non agro nibblers/goos. The added nibbler is comparable to the yard trash beetles of Unrest in a way. Let em nibble at your back long enough, and they whittle your hp away nicely. Not a great thing with some Goo Poison on you.. Now thats good stuff. Looking foreward to meeting you Fendrish. Safe hunting.

"Under Conned"
# Oct 25 2001 at 11:00 PM Rating: Default
People very often talk about things in Dalnir Crypt being "Under Conned". Infact things are conned fine, however the difficulty of Dalnir Crypt yields its own uniqueness. The enemies are almost a "Trick" they seem to be rather simple, and most of their melee attacks aren't that bad. But do becareful, because the "Trick" tp this place is mearly the toughness of spells. Monsters here can heal themselves and use some nasty offensive spells for those of levels 25-30. At 30+ this place becomes a lot more accessable safety wise. So come to this place on guard, it's not your usual camp and fight the meleers and get bored. It will keep you on your toes from levels 25-33. And the EXP... well it ownZ just about anywhere for hunters of 25-35. So, my advice.. Get you a good group of 28-35 and go rock the place daily =)
When can I go there?

My GUIDE to Dalnir
# Nov 07 2001 at 2:48 PM Rating: Excellent
You can hunt in Dalnir as low as 25th. That is about the lowest level the mobs are. I recommend doing dalnir from 30 to 35 simply because you are fighting all blues and you will kill them fast while they will not kill you fast. There are tons of casters in there, clerics, mages with pets and DS, Necros with pets and of course wizzys. Low hps and resists coupled with low level and even a good group is gonna see alot of death. I love this dungeon and have hunted here with nearly all my chars in this level range. As experienced as I am fighting here I still get killed once in a while due to multiple caster pulls. You can solo here and you can even fear kite if you know how to do it. But that's something you will have to figure out on your own if you are so inclined. On luclin I am still able to find groups. The good thing about this zone is it's possible to fight at the zone solo or with only a few while waiting for others to show. It's safe there and not too sull while you wait. With a good group you can move about the place and find better hunting grounds that the zone line, which is not so good in this situation because the puller has to come from such a long way with mobs to kill. At around 32 or so you can easily do the 1st level with smaller groups.
These are the really important issues you will need to deal with:
1. Mages with pets have DS and also love to nuke. The DS will wear you out quick and if you have multiple melee it's worse than constant AOE, which by the way these mages love to throw at you. Gnome Females can be Mages or Wizzies btw. Wizzies are not as bad as Mages here since they lack the brutal DS and the pet, but they do nuke harder.
2. Clerics are not too bad one at a time. They will heal themselves through nearly any amount of beating so you need to find someway to interrupt them. Fear will not interrupt btw. They will continue to cast then run. Dwarf females are always clerics and DE females without pets are clerics.
3. SKs are either erudites or DEs. You can tell by the warm fuzzy you get when you pull them ;)
Seriously though if they have pets they will be white colored skeles.
4. Necros with pets are DEs or Erudites. If they have a pet it will be the brown colored one. They love to snare(which means death for the snared person when things go bad) and nuke. They cast Banshee aura on themselves and some damage absorb spell.
Dwarf males are either warriors(in plate) or rogues(leather), gnome males are warriors, Iksar with clothes(green colored) are monks without clothes are Necros(they don't summon pets btw).
No halflings, barbs, humans here

Smoldering Goos ALWAYS aggro.
Gyrating goos and Nibblers sometimes aggro. It is possible to allow non-aggro goos and nibbies live and thus make you life easier by taking up a spawn point for something nastier. Nibblers and Goos do not "call for help". You can pull singles of these out of any grouping. The coerced mobs help each other but not goos or nibblers and vice versa.
THE ABOVE APPLIES MAINLY TO THE 1ST LEVEL. THE DISCRIPTION OF THE COERCED MOBS APPLIES THROUGHOUT. ON THE 2ND LEVEL YOU GET MORE KLY MOBS AND ON THE 3RD IT'S NEARLY ALL KLY MOBS.
ENJOY!

Learning experience
# Aug 05 2001 at 12:43 PM Rating: Excellent
Well, this dungeon was an experience. I went in with a group. A 43rd Sk, 44 war, 43 Monk , 35th Sk, and me a 38th cleric. We really did very well up to the 3rd lvl. And did well there up til we meet the overseer. The overseer with his procs. killed the monk, 35 sk and myself. But we did find out a few interesting things.
1) the kly (overseer) included, and all of the other creatures in the zone can not see through invisibility of any kind. So if you are there and trying to make it out and you have the ability to invis. do so. It will save your life.
2) Have everyone in your group read up on this dungeon before going in. You will not be surprised by things like we were. Always best to do your homework first.
3) That the monk armor is an uncommon if not rare drop. We did not get a single piece for our monk.
4) The final thing I learned is to never go into a place thinking that it is not going to be a big deal that because you are or your group is too high really for the zone, that this place or any other is going to be a cake walk. I found this out when the first evoker and invoker's nuked me.
So please take all this in consideration when going in to this dungeon.

Kandie
38th cleric.
