Paineel is home to Norrath's evil Erudite contingent, the Heretics. The most notable sites here are the Fell Blade (Shadow Knight guild), Abattoir (necromancer guild), Tabernacle of Terror (cleric guild), and the Athenaeum Necromantia (the local library).

Also here are two entrances to the Hole (one through an underwater passage; the other through a leap of faith), found through a network of tunnels extending out from the newbie area. The Warrens, city of kobolds, also connects to this same area.

Other Evil Races
# Feb 21 2000 at 3:43 PM Rating: Decent
To the others earlier comments about other evil races being alllowed in painell, well i personally have seen Dark Elves running around there already. As to trolls and Ogres........i don't know but there was a troll boby lying by the guards the other day, if that is any indication. I do know humans can though cause there were quite alot of em in there the other day ( all necros or SK's of course) but again, they hadn't approached the guards yet so who knows
Undead rat

Conned white at three, hits consistently. If multiples around at the same time, they WILL swarm.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 19 2000 at 10:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The undead rat is only level 2 ( 3 at most ).
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 19 2000 at 9:58 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I meant newbie area, not zone.

There is also an undead rat, and it has killed almost the whole newbie zone before. I assume it is around lvl 6.

I have been playing evil characters since I first started playing EQ, and I tossed my Erudite because the newbie zone sucked so bad... Are there going to be sooo many people in this zone that it will be like trying to create a newbie in faydark on the older servers?

One more message, to all the newbies in there, its kinda cramped in those hallways and doorways, please dont sit in the doorway while your meming your spells because we can't get past you if you do. And don't beg, cheating benevolent characters or watching them die is exceptable, remember...your evil. Go forth in Fear of his coming, let chaos be your guide.

Well I got in to chec it out right after work....WOW, unreal. I have been In every city the game has but none of them compare to this by far. I now know why it took so long to finish it. Yes I have seen dark elves running around inside. I watched some high levels try and raid the place, boy did they get a surprise. The skeleton guards are green to me but they will swarm their target, coming out of every door, and the NPC's that get alerted stand back and begin casting. As for Ogres...im not sure, I wouldn't chance it, If you want to improve faction with heretics kill Shintar the roaming paladin in toxx forest or the roaming mage (name unknown). And you can kill Darla Starfire in Kerra Ridge also.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 18 2000 at 2:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Was wondering if trolls and Ogres are welcomed in da dark city?

Oh yeah! did i mention Taliger, a high level Necro that raoms next to the water with his pet, I believe he is 35+, so all you high levels that want to mess with my home if you all of a sudden come under a nasty dot while your camping our guards, you might catch a glimpse of him before you die if you turn around and check your six. I haven't been in the zone yet, I'm watching the clock at work so I can run home and check it out. If yu want to kill necro's, get your fill in Kerra Ridge on the necro island.

Its's about time, aall of us dedicated evil players finally have a home of our own. I don't like that fact that there is going to be a major overloading of newbies in ther area just to see what paineel is all about. For you newbies, be careful along the wall off to the right as you come out of Paineel, Rungupp will eat your lunch during your first 6-7 levels. He is a troll shaman that sits on a ledge up on the wall, he used to run around alot but I guess he got lazy. Have fun!

Guard Killers
# Feb 17 2000 at 5:21 PM Rating: Decent
Killing guards kills newbies. We have all run for guards. Don't give me that crap about teaching newbies not to rely on guards, either. I'm sure it's tough in the 30's, but don't make it tough for the newbies. Be a man. Go hunt. The Karanas have corrupt guards, if you must hunt guards.
WHAT?!?!
# Feb 17 2000 at 5:15 PM Rating: Default
makeing the guards super buff is extremly stupid! at least make them the way there HPs and hits suggest them to be. you may not like people guard hunting but it is a valuable source of exp and cash for people that dont bother creating secondary characters

I am glad that Verant finally made you guard killers pay for your evil deeds ;D Some people need those guards in there first few levels just to feel more comfortable with the zone knowing they have backup just over that hill. Also if you were commenting on the guards in Paineel (my hometown) then, we finally have a well protected city and we very well should have one since the Hole is right next door and the elementals like to sneak in to the and fight the guards. (read somewhere this happened once, when the Hole opened) On a final note I do hope to kill a few gaurds in my time but I will act as the replacement guard until they respawn, its not fair to the newbies and alike to not get that extra protection they want and sometimes need, so if you are going to kill guards at least stick around and help out the newbies until the real guards spawn. THX for your time,

No guard killing here...

20th level guards with 1500hp and they hit for 130 or so... Hope they do this to the guard in other cities... I'm sick of my secondaries getting killed because some idiot killed all the guards... On a good note... if the guards aren't fearless then high levels will be able to get to "the hole" with relative ease...
To the moron pally...

You will have abit of difficulty getting into the city of Paineel, seems Verant has decided to take some anti-guard camping measures with this new city.

Erudite necros, SKs and clerics can walk through Erudin to get to the dock. You will be dubious to every guard there. The only place you need to avoid is the caster guilds and you have to be stupid and go out of your way to get near them. However, to get through Qeynos you will need to enter the catacombs through the entrance/exit in the water in the docks. Erudite necros will have no problems in Freeport, I imagine SKs and clerics will have the same faction deals as necros.

There are 2 ways for evils to get off of odus.
1. Invisibility
2. Have some high lvl type teleport you oout.
If you are an Erudite necro, you can either fight kobolds until you achieve the 8th circle and use gather shadows to get yourself out. I strongly recommend getting an enchanter to help you out and ferry you through Qeynos.

"The Hole"
# Feb 17 2000 at 7:27 AM Rating: Decent
The place won't be out until May sometime, according to the latest from Verant, and its not a "skeleton" dungeon but an elemental dungeon. If you look at some of the quest text in the zone you'll notice that they talk about the old erudite necro city underneath the existing one. That they had to move out because of elementals pushing them out. This is what the dungeon called "The Hole" is, we believe.
