Named for the natural geysers and springs found in its rocky peaks, these mountains surround the gnome city of Ak'Anon.

It is known that the dragons had once dwelled here, for the fossilized remains of very young dragon can be viewed inside a small valley. The presence of Steamfont's drakes also indicates that the region may once have had some greater significance to the children of Veeshan. However, that history was lost long before the arrival of the elves or the surfacing of the gnomes.

The mountains of Steamfont are bordered by the Lesser Faydark to the east, and the gates to the glorious subterranean city of Ak'Anon to the far west - gates installed safely within a mountain face and heavily guarded by some of Ak'Anon's most renown warriors.

Whizzlebang Twempt can be found at between the zone lines for LP and DSH.

Found him this morning and here's the info i got from him.

"Hail Whizzlebang Twemp"

Well Well! you look foolish... er... Strong and Powerful! What would you say to a business {proposition]?

"what proposition?"

Well it's simple enough <name>. Being the observant <race> i know you are, I'm sure you've noticed the large floating contraption in this area! That monstrosity must be dealt with and the Ak'anon Strike Force is on the [job]!

"what job?"

It's clear to us in the ASF that we must fight clockwork with clockwork. That's why we are proud to have constructed our I.R.A. to deal with the upstart Maldrath. Oncer we have worked out the, er, [kinks] we'll be able to swiftly deal with this situation!

"what kinks?'

Well, with any ambitous project there are bound to be problems to overcome! Surely you know that! Actually, <name>, that's why i am so glad you stopped by! You see, we need some help with a few easy [tests]. If you are [interested], i assure you that you and any friends you bring along will be richly rewarded.

"What tests?"

It's quite simple. The I.R.A. is our Infinitely Regenerative Automaton. Designed and constructed to be an unstopable and destructive force, I.R.A will recover from any defeat and return stronger and stronger! All we need now are a few practice runs. Are you [interested]?

"I am interested"

Excellent <name>! Please let me know when you are [ready] and i will transport you to our secret testing facility. Good luck and we assure that your next of kin will be contacted in the event that anything unexpected might occur while you are assisting with our testing!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring a raid force, sounds like this event will be fun, think this quest NPC is lvl 80, he coned yellow to me at 79. Gonna come back with raid force later tonight and try this new thing out. This is the first Raid event for EQ's Living Legacy and is in effect from 6-9-08 thru 6-15-08 (at least for now)

/loc: 330, 990 (northeast of the windmills)

/con: Red to Level 75

Commander Gearswitch says 'Greetings Twixer. Have you come to [assist] in the fight against Meldrath?'

You say, 'i have come to assist'

He offers two different solo tasks, each with a 30 minute lockout timer.

Minotaur Extermination:
  • Kill 10 minotaur soldiers
  • Speak with Commander Gearswitch

Several 'a minotaur soldier' and 'an injured minotaur soldier' roam around the zone.

Steamwork Invasion:
  • Kill 10 steamworks
  • Speak with Commander Gearswitch

Several 'an invading steamwork' roam around the zone.

Both tasks offer one the following rewards:
  • Potion: Elixer of Clarity III (req. level 5)
  • Potion: Elixer of Health III (req. level 5)
  • Potion: Elixer of Healing III (req. level 5)
  • Potion: Elixer of Speed III (req. level 5)
  • Potion: Distillate of Comprehension (req. level 5)
  • Potion: Greater Symbol of Vitality (req. level 50)
  • Potion: Distillate of Regeneration (req. level 50)
  • Potion: Elixer of Resistance (req. level 50)
  • Potion: Elixer of Clarity X (req. level 50)
  • Potion: Spirit of the Wolf (req. level 50)
  • Potion: Disillate of Skinspikes (req. level 65)
  • Potion: Distilalte of Regeneration (req. level 65)
  • Potion: Elixer of Resistance (req. level 65)
  • Potion: Evasive Forestep (req. level 65)
  • Potion: Spirit of the Mist Wolf (req. level 65)

Commander Gearswitch says 'Your help so far has been appreciated Twixer. I only wish we had one of their insignias to study. If you can find one for us, we might have more work for you soon.

'A Clockwork Insignia' drops from any of the mobs killed in the above two tasks.

You say, 'Hail, Commander Gearswitch'

Commander Gearswitch says 'We appreciate your help with the ground forces lately, but it appears things have only gotten worse. We've been attacking his fortress as best we can, but his steamworks keep destroying our catapults. It's bad enough that we're running out of [materials] to keep them operational.'

You say, 'what materials?'

Commander Gearswitch says 'We need wood to repair our catapults and more ammunition to fire at the fortress. As I said, things are getting worse for us. Are you willing to [help] us out?'

You say 'i am willing to help'

He offers two more solo tasks:

Catapult Repair:
  • Speak with Carpenter Rockleaf in Greater Faydark
  • Deliver 4 Heavy Lumber to Carpenter Rockleaf

Carpenter Rockleaf says 'Ah, Twixer! Commmander Gearswitch sent word to expect you. I'm afraid I've got some bad news though. We had stockpiled the lumber necessary for the parts the gnomes need, but during a recent raid, the orcs made off with most of it. If you could retrieve some of it from them I'm sure I could have the parts the gnomes need ready shortly after.'

Carpenter Rockleaf is located at (-240, 60). 'Heavy Lumber' drops from random orcs in Greater Faydark.

The reward is 'Catapult Parts' plus one of the potions from the first two tasks.

Fun with Explosives:
  • Speak with Alchemist Irontooth in Butcherblock Mountains
  • Deliver 4 Grave Dust to Alchemist Irontooth

Alchemist Irontooth says 'Twixer! You're here! Haha, you won't believe what I've cooked up! I've developed the best catapult ammunition ever! There's just one catch. . . testing the ammunition used up the last of my grave dust supplies to actually make them. If you can [retrieve] several samples of the dust for me I can have the ammunition created as soon as you return.'

You say, 'i will retrieve them'

Alchemist Irontooth says 'I've had the best luck finding grave dust on the undead around the Estate of Unrest. You'd be best off starting your search there.'

Alchemist Irontooth is located at (-730, 275). 'Grave Dust' drops from random undead in the Estate of Unrest.

The reward is 'Incendiary Bombs' plus one of the potions from the first two tasks.

You say, 'Hail, Commander Gearswitch'

Commander Gearswitch says 'You're back! And with the parts and ammunition no less. This is perfect timing! Once you take those to one of our [engineers] they should have the catapult working again in no time!'

You say, 'what engineers?'

Commander Gearswitch says 'There are several of them nearby. You should be able to find them stationed by the catapults they are working on. You'll want to gather some friends before delivering those parts though. The steamworks and minotaurs seem to focus attacks on any of the catapults that are under repair.'

He offers another solo task.

Fire the Catapults!:
  • Deliver the Catapult Parts to one of the catapult engineers
  • Protect the engineer while he repairs the catapult
  • ?

Engineer Pivvenat is located at (750, -870). Engineer Copinny is located at (495, -430). After turning in the Catapult Parts, waves of minotaurs and steamworks rush the catapult. They con dark/light blue to Level 75 and hit for up to 1000. Doing this step alone, like I did, is not recommended. Failing to defend the engineer means repeating the 'Catapult Repair' task for a new set of Catapult Parts, and restarting the 'Fire the Catapults!' task.

The reward is one of the potions from the first two tasks.

Do you receive either of the first two tasks at any level? Are there different versions for different levels, i.e., do the task stages and rewards vary by level?

Excellent post!

One small addition. The Heavy Lumber drops uncommonly off the low-level orcs in Gfay, but is fairly common off the higher level orcs inside Crushbone. A couple of AEs in or around the throne room area should drop them quickly. Same goes for Unrest -- the tormented dead drop Grave Dust uncommonly, but a couple of AEs on a room full of dark bone skeletons inside drops it quickly.

Something seems odd about the set of tasks though. The kill count ones to start can be finished with the newbie-level minotaur soldiers and steamworks near the Ak'Anon entrance, then there are the collects in Crushbone and Unrest. These steps should be trivial to finish by players in the 30's.

Even the most distant catapult with the lowest level spawns rips single level 75, Anguish+ geared players to shreds, and I'm not sure if even a full group could handle 1-2 dozen mobs all quadding 300's.

The final ??? step is to give the Engineer your bombs, but the only time I've gotten that far was after a wipe and the catapult had reset and he wouldn't take it.

Is there a final reward? More tasks? Seems like a huge undertaking for a Clarity X potion.
An Escaped Slave
# Nov 08 2007 at 12:33 PM Rating: Decent

New mob since revamp?

Was exploring the mino caves and found an unopenable door in the rear of the caves. I then noticed this "an escaped slave" following me about. Hailed him with no response but he did have a few phrases that he would blurt out occasionally. Tried to use words from those phrases to trigger him but to no avail. Was able to give him items as well with no results.

Noticed as I was leaving the caves that there were several more of these fellows wandering about outside the entrance to the mino caves. These did not follow though. Seemed to be able to wander in the caves once the way was clear of mobs.

Inactive Clockwork
# Dec 12 2004 at 5:01 PM Rating: Decent
I've seen a few mobs in Steamfont not on this list.. the one that interests me is "Inactive Clockwork". Very green at 65. It appears to be a dead female clockwork, when attacked it won't move, it's HP wouldn't go below 99% for me as a level 65 Warrior.. with constant attacks, haste, procs and so on.

Any ideas?
Frindle Grimble?
# Nov 03 2004 at 2:58 AM Rating: Decent
Findleznax Grimblewimbus spawned in the middle of the dragon skeleton at 7pm game time:

Quote:
Findleznax Grimblewimbus attempts, most unsuccessfully, to hide the shovel behind his back. 'I wasn't doing anything! You have to understand . . . This isn't what it looks like. It was a wonderful night for a stroll! Oh wait, you're not one of the authorities, are you? Phew. In my [line of work], you never can be too careful. Say. . . You look like you might be morally flexible. Why don't you lend old Findleznax a hand and keep a watch out while I dig. Something's buried here, I know it. I can SENSE it, and I'll be swizzle-swaggled if some other rotbag is going to get ahold of it before me. Whaddya say? Find it in your heart to [help me]?

What line of work are you in?

Quote:
Findleznax Grimblewimbus says 'Self-employed treasure seeker. I relieve the dead of their valuables after they no longer need them. My efforts aren't appreciated in many places which requires me to practice discreetly. There are some that would call me 'gravedigger', but I don't particularly care for the connotations associated with that moniker. You know, it's funny. . . A Wayfarer trespasses in the hallowed crypts of Mistmoore, plunders their treasure and walks away a hero. I exhume a single fresh corpse and suddenly become a criminal - does that sound like justice to you?'

I will help you
Quote:
Findleznax Grimblewimbus thrusts his shovel into the dank earth and begins digging. For his size, he works fast.

...a short time later...

Quote:
Findleznax Grimblewimbus stops digging and sits down to rest. 'Hmph, nay. There's nothing here after all. Sorry to have troubled you.'

Tried several texts after that, but he wouldn't say anything else, hope it helps someone.

Yes, Crusader Swiftmoon needs to be added to this list. He is a paladin trigger spawned when you hail the female gnome merchant. Eventually Swiftmoon shows up and begins walking toward her. it takes a while to spot him, so have a ranger, bard or druid to track him.

Took him down today with the help of a 30th cleric. I am 26th myself, and he conned yellow to me. Lays on hands mid battle, doesn't hit too hard, even through Temperance. He does have a fair amount of hit points so don't expect him to fall easily. Just takes a long time.

He drops Swiftmoon head, a missing tier'dal crate and a Fier'dal long sword. Both the crate and head are used for the regent of Innoruuk test (cleric guild.), I believe. The sword is just a trophy, give it to your pet!

Hope this helps and I will try to get a screen shot of him.

I got away but not before he casted that stupid Poison spell on me, I died right after I exited the cave, and he was no where to be seen, I out ran him, so hes not that fast.

I have all these Clockwork Spider (CS) no drop items....CS eye lens, CS leg sections, CD thorax plates, CS mesh. What are these for? Are they quest items? do I turn them in to someone for expewrience like the scrap metal and black boxes?

Clockwork spider legs ab thorax and lens are for SK newbie armor. clockwork also drop a spider mesh for cleric armor I think. legs are for greaves and vambraces ab thorax are for bp and lens are for helm
rest of set is from rogue cleaners

This seems to be broken since the renegades clockworks do not exist. Ive had trackers and I have killed everything in zone and still no renegades
Verant better fix this because a Gm told me its isnt broken, but was going to report it anyway. We'll see what happens now I guess.

I just bought the drop off a windmill merchant, so I'm prety sure it's sill dropping. My question is where is Diloperia? I need her bracer, and I can't find her/him by search or anything...

Ok.. here's my two cents

Smiley: twocents

Diloperia can be found with about a half dozen evil gnomes at the east end of the valley where the dragon skeleton can be found.

I've seen a renegade or two. Might there be something that causes it to spawn? Going on a lower class killing spree has been known to spawn higher levels, in this case rogues and rebels.

I know for my sword quest the target appeared only at night and if he was killed you had to wait for the next evening and other spawn.

Just a couple cps
