The Butcherblock Mountains are the land of the dwarves. This rugged mountain range serves as the gateway into Norrath for the dwarves of Kaladim with its citizens, guards, and vendors well-represented throughout the area.

The Greater Faydark can be found to the East while Dagnor's Cauldron lies to the South. These mountains also connect to both the Ocean of Tears and Timorous Deep as the docks in Port Faydwer service both oceans.

The King
# Nov 06 2001 at 11:43 AM Rating: Default
In reference to Yaledars post I just wanted to say that of course the king resisted all your spells, he was like 5 lvls above u bro!!! Most everything higher then 3-4 lvls will probably do a good job of resising you. Just a little FYI.
Chessboard
# Oct 31 2001 at 8:37 AM Rating: Default
First post here, thought I would give advice on the chessboard. Great place to level up from 6-8 with 5 people (at least one healer, one wiz, and 2 fighters), you could DING at least 2-3 times there by camping. Of course be polite and see if anyone else is already camped there, then ask to join or move on.
FYI, the king is resistant to magic spells, so melee only. Also, i didn't see the Undead Rook or the Undead Bishop's Pet listed above, we fought both last night.
I would advise this tactic, one tank to pull with a wiz or mage nuking from behind with a healer to heal the tank.
Just to put my 2cp in , the other night i (lvl 10 wiz - Yaleldar) was there with 2 clerics (lvl's 11,12) and we were able to take down the King and 2 Pawns with this tactic.
I nuked Pawn to draw in, they stood in front, when i blasted the King and got the resisted your spell message, i told the group i would take out the pawns. Each pawn took about 5-6 firebolts each to take down with about 46 dam per spell. The 2 clerics worked on the King one at a time, healing each other in the process (now that i think about it, that's like having 4 different melee attackers, one hits one heals-change up and do the same , when the pawns dropped i stepped in to melee the king with my staff and we dropped them.
Of course I have died there about 4 separate occasions and it is a long run without a SOW from felwithe to chessboard.
Use good battle tactics, formations, know your job, and look for me if you want to camp out there.

Anyone know if Walnan has a specific spawn point or if there is a place holder for her? I've got all 4 power's of the elements and need to turn them into her, any info on this would be very helpful.

No specific spawn point I know of, however she normally appears between the Kaladim Main Entrance and the Docks in Butcherblock. There is not much distance to cover so just keep looking around and in-between those areas.

The specific spawn point is 1850, 620 where she will hang out for a while before she begins to wander the paths of BB. The PH for heer is what i am curious about as i have now camped over 5 hrs with no luck :(

Dwarven Guard faction

Ok, I'm an iksar, trying to not be kos to the dwarf guards. I've killed tons of orcs, enough so that wood elf and high elf guards just glower, but the dwarves still hate me. I've been killing goblins, but so far no big change. Anyone know what faction the guards are actually on, and whats the quickest way to gain their favor?
RE: Dwarven Guard faction
# Oct 14 2001 at 7:48 PM Rating: Default
ok the dwarfs should like you because there Storm Guards. And so is the highelfs and the Woodelfs. It migh be a bu not sure, but I have a iksar friend and he killed orcs untill his orc faction couldn't get any worse and hi Storm Guard couldn't get any better. But still I guess Krags and Goblins just gotta do )

Also you took the challenge of being a evil race,so work it out, and hon to be a iksa is the most hardest character to play. Because every single race hates YOU! But you just gotta keep killing those gobos and Krags and Orcs
RE: Dwarven Guard faction
# Oct 10 2001 at 11:08 PM Rating: Excellent

While the orcs might be helpful, killing the goblins has no effect on the factions in Butcherblock.

Killing bandits is my preferred method of improving StormGuard faction. By level 6, you should be able to take Keldyn Dunfire as he runs west from the bandit camp, south to the yellow tower, then northeast, where he finishes his journey at the Crossroads, being killed by the guards.

Around levels 9 to 11 you can start killing Qued (He basically follows the same path as Keldyn) or Crytill Dunfire (He turns south toward the yellow tower, then turns around and heads back toward the docks).

Margyl Darklin has at least two paths that she'll take, seemingly at random. One, she wanders around the open area west of the camp, then runs to the ruins, then to the docks. The other, the will walk east from the camp toward the goblins.

Killing bandits can be a little slow, as they tend to stand around the camp fow a long time before making their short trips, but a little patience will pay off eventually. With my gnome necro, I went from Threatening to Amiable after less than twenty kills. Still working on it with my Iksar monk, at whom they scowl.

Once you can enter Kaladim, you should do the Crushbone belt or Legionnaire's pad quests right away. Until you do these a few times, you'll still be KOS to the banker even when the guards like you.

And until you get your faction up, Ellona, the druid ring merchant, will let you sell your loot.

Since the take over of runnyeye by the pickclaw(?) goblins, there are 2 factions of goblins in BBM. The wandering goblins are all pickclaw and dont effect faction in kaladim. The goblins in the camps in BBM (3 camps) still give faction for stormguard and runnyeye warbeads. Of course the goblins in MT are still on runnyeye faction and the warriors there give beads as well. you can use them in kaladim or RV.

I have hunted the dwarves in Butcherblock for a while now. Just started on my epic, and noticed I have to go in Kaladim for part of it. Will this be affected by the citizen faction? If so, is there anyway to fix it?
Thanks in advance ;o)

The Blade of Nobility is a component in the Paladin Quest for the sword Ghoulbane, after you gather all the parts, you can create,(or have created, I'm not really sure which) a magic sword called Ghoulbane, Paly only sword which Proc's Banish Undead, or some other higher lvl undead specific spell....Kinderslye, Paladin of Underfoot, 13th lvl, dwarf....

RE: Mini bishop ?

You are thinking of "Undead Bishop's pet". Undead Bishop is one of the rare spawns at the chessboard. He is a necromancer, and immediately after spawning summons up his necro skellie pet. The pet, like most pets, doesn't drop jack, not even bone chips.
Camps
# Sep 01 2001 at 1:24 PM Rating: Decent
I got some information on 2 of the different camps so thought I would share it.
First, the bandit camp that is past the crossroads. These are not the regular dwarf bandits, all 4 are named, and all are at 10 or above. What makes it deadly is they all go after the first person who hit them, and ignore everyone else in the group, including anyones pet, they will go right to the owner. They hit fairly hard but all 4 at once will take you down quick. They will pick each person off one at a time, which makes it a very tough fight.
BTW does anyone know where there are regular dwarf bandits? I have yet to see one in all my time in BB.

Second is the golbin warrior camp. There are always 3 warriors in the camp from what I can tell, and all below 10. I figure they were really about 8 or so. I was camped there with 2 others and it was fairly easy to take all 3 without breaking a sweat. They spawn every 10-15 minutes I think.
(btw the group consisted of a level 10 mage, 10 enchanter and 8 druid)
RE: Camps
# Dec 05 2001 at 5:46 PM Rating: Default
Oh man, that's the worst group I have ever heard of!!! Druid is a half-*** warrior, Mage (what I am, and the only thing i think was good in your group by the way...), and enchanter, I believe should be wiped off the game. Their DD and AE spells suck, their buffs arent that good, and they brag too much about enchanting silver and summoning gold.... They can rot for all I care... Anyway, this is my first post ever.. So yes.. Have fun with your ***** *** team mates.. (Druid and enchanter, how pathetic!! HA!)
RE: Camps
# Dec 16 2001 at 8:19 AM Rating: Decent
HAHA!! That is so funny. Please wait untill you make it to lvl 2 before you post. I dont consider any class bad. All classes have advantages. Someday you will need a sow so you can run from a bad pull. Someday you will be out of mana and need a clarity from that enchanter, or you will have a bad pull and the enchanter wont be around to mez the mobs. Not all classes start out great. Greatness is achieved over time. I get tired of hearing this class is bad or that class is bad. Just shut up and dont play that class and leave others alone who do. Grow up a little before you post here again.

The only time you'll see regular Dwarf bandits are on the road north of the guard house with Delin Ironblend at it (I think that's the one; near the Goblin Warriors). I've taken out a few of them - they're something like 5th or 6th level.

Oops, sorry - I think I also saw one standing on the hill outside of the docks. That was a long time ago - they won't aggro on you, unless you have good faction with the Dwarf Rogue guild, I think.

Wow -- I must be the only person who wanders around off the beaten path. At #3 on the EQAtlas map of Butcherblock, at the Dwarven Stones, there are two new NPCs. I forget what their first names are, but their last name is Dundam. They appear to be twin Dwarf females, each armed with an axe, and they conned red and indifferent to my 25 level Dwarf Rogue. Hailing them got no response (and my people like me). They stand facing the stones; they're probably still being developed. I'll try and post pictures later.

Edit, 9/1/01: Well, maybe they're not new. I swear I'd never seen them before, but on another site, you can find one referene to them from july 2000. They're apparently in the mid-30s. I've now posted a picture of one of them.

they're 35.. con even to me..

names are:

Darm Dundam - spawns in front of the big stone
Ganbar Dundam - spawns in front of the little stone

they drop about 4ppish in coin and bronze 2h battle axe.. sometimes also dropping chainmail peices and fine steel weapons

What are the faction hits for killing them - if any?
Enraged Goblins
# Aug 28 2001 at 11:16 PM Rating: Default
The Enraged Goblins near the crossroads (NOT the Crazy goblins near kaladim) are higher than Lvl 7-8. They con green to white to my Lvl 15 Ranger. I have never been able to get them to aggro separately (so I root or ensare one, lead the others to a guard, then go back and take the rooted one).

These NPC's drop 'Enraged Warbeads' which are part of the Brell initiate quest. BTW, soothe works great. Just cast it on two then pull the other.
bezerk goblins
# Aug 27 2001 at 5:21 PM Rating: Default
anyone seen the bezerk goblins?
I was watching a friend run around bb mindlessly waiting for a Tele, and he ran into a corner which held 3 bezerk goblins. They were really green to him, of course, being level 60, but he was unfamiliar with them. He killed them, and they seemed to have around 150 to 200 hps. They dropped a necklace which was nodrop/magic, and added 1 str. I'm not sure if he's just been lazy and forgot the old encounters from years ago, or if these are new.
More new mobs
# Aug 27 2001 at 3:09 PM Rating: Default
I also had a couple of Orc Oracles aggro on me a lvl 30 Druid (probably cause i was meddin) near the gfay zone here. Its the first time I have seen orcs here. They seemed more like the Crushbone type than the GFay type (ie. stronger). They weren't much trouble naturally for me but it seems Verant is interested in making this zone more challenging for the yougins in this zone with these orcs in addition to the new gobbies. I wonder if GFay, the safest zone in the game almost, is next.

RE: Drakes too

They often spawn near GFay zone, and are really easy xp for rangers:

just pull one with Snare, shoot/Flame Lick as long as possible and/or whack it in hand to hand.
Too bad they only seem to drop coppers like Ebon Drakes in SteamFont :(

crazed gobbies: i hunt these regularly, 30 druid, theyre usually blue, occaisionally even to me. usually pretty easy to pull, dont resist a whole lot, although ive had to run to guards once cause the damn thing resisted 3 combusts in a row and i was oom. they fight to the death, so DO NOT close in to melee as they will beat u senseless if youre a caster. drop 1-4 plat, fs daggers, and small ringmail boots and shoulders, and sometimes blade of nobility
RE: New Gobbies
# Aug 27 2001 at 1:36 PM Rating: Default
I believe the ones you are talking about are more in the mid 20's range as they were all blue to a level 27 shammy. I would compare them to the weaker gobbies in HHK. Some new interesting lore nodrops like a broken royal blade or something on them however. Likely another one of the many pally quests for the dwarfs in this area. Nice for shammy and druid kiting.
