The Paludal Caverns are a network of fungus and mold-ridden caves located beneath Hollowshade Moor. In addition to the usual lineup of creatures you'd find in such an area, there are also a few camps of Recondite bandits established here.

My 2 cents
# Aug 06 2002 at 9:50 AM Rating: Default
For every body who wants the main scoop on this zone listen up. if your around lvl's 6 or 7 u hsould come into this zone through shadow weavers thicket and fight the small reishi's there until about 9.
Then u should go to the ent of hallowshade moor and fight the stuff that con blue and even if your twinked yellow. But since i was a bst and had an even warder i took on yellows. Stay there till 13-14 when u fell good enough go to the cave with all the grime tunnelers it's by the bridge surrounded bt patog phlarg feinds.
Kill the beetles and 2 reishi's that pop there every so often once u hit 16 depending on your class u should go fight the patog or phlerg feinds( patog are harder which does mean more xp).
once u hit 18 or 19 your ready for the bandits and a group. Some people may say this is late to start there but now a days there are a lot of 25+ peopole there and so if u wanna get grouped u gunna hafta be higher. fight the badits till around 25-26 and then u can leave this place, with a deceant amount of money and a weeks time here.

NOw would somone please tell me if where a great place to go is for a 28bst thx for your advice.

Could my lv 16 wiz and my friends chacters,lv19 rogue, and lv 19 clr take on the badits?
RE: Hmmm
# Aug 05 2002 at 4:24 PM Rating: Default
I agree, get a tank. There are often chars from 16-26 in there, you should be able to pick one up quick.
RE: Hmmm
# Aug 04 2002 at 12:06 PM Rating: Default
It would be wise to get a meat sheild or a damage dealer. Rogue may have trouble keepin mobs off casters when casters pull aggro. Which they will do. So three PC are enough at that lvl but need different melee.

Just to clarify, the Recondite Cutpurse cons blue to my Lvl 19 wizard.
Missing Creature
# Jul 17 2002 at 9:30 PM Rating: Default
There is another bandit called a Recondite Cutpurse. I am assuming it's Levl 18-19. Hits for 36 damage on average. Killer backstab of 100+

Pain in the butt to say the least.
Best Exp from 12-26
# Jun 27 2002 at 12:35 PM Rating: Default
This is by far the best exp i have found from 12 all the way to 26. Took my troll warrior here at 19, hit 26 in a few days of casual playing, and now i have my barb rogue here. Showed up at level 12, had 1 gold of exp. I sneaked my way over to the hollowshade zone and set up camp soloing the beetles and the solo shroom over there. After 3 hours of playing, i am now half way through level 14, and havent died at all, because the zone is so close in case you get in trouble.

Another benefit is the almost constant flow of 30+ chars heading to/from hollowshade, and most of them were kind enough to heal or buff me as they ran past. Great experience here due to dungeon and moon bonuses, i advise everyone to try it out.

This Place Is Some Of The Best Exp!
# Jun 12 2002 at 8:25 AM Rating: Good
I brought my Necro here at level 16 and made 20 solo in about 4 hours. Though half the time I had a Protection of glades buff. If any of you are into PL or PL other people I reccomend Get a 49+ druid and a magic weapon. Start off at befallen then come here after 15. You should be 20 in a few short hours.

If you can get yourself in on the Shadeweaver's side, you can begin here as early as 7th. I took a couple of different characters through iinvis'd. Bind in SV, come back and amaze yourself with how fast the yellow bar moves =)

It is seriously the best low/low-mid exp to be found in the game anywhere. The loot is not good, but the tradeoff is amazingly fast leveling. With a mildly twinked bard I went in at 8th level. I ran through all the levels solo and came out 23rd level in just under 23 hours /played. After that I started grouping at bandits. Now that might not be a world speed record or anything, but it's faster than anything I had ever done before. Maybe a fluke? I tried it again with a kittie BST and same result. Very fast levels!

I say if you aren't here, you are really missing out on great leveling potential and some good early dungeon experience. And that never hurt anyone.

You can definantly hunt here, and its very much worth the trip. This zone has excellent xp. Try to get in a group hunting the bandits from the camps near Shadow Haven. Ok loot, and great xp.

yeah 17 is fine!
i brought my level 13 cleric here (taking a risk)
and i couldnt find much to fight with a group at first, so i grouped with a level 16 and fought shrooms. yeah i didnt get much exp from it because he took most, but when i hit 14, i already had my spells with me and then i started to get some invites to the groups!
i made 16 in like 1 and a half hours in a group with a level 16 warrior!

this zone is cool 4 exp but it is really anoying if u r trying to bring a vah shir down to norrath or bring someone up to shar vahl because it is a "maze"and if u set one foot in u get aggroed almost at once

Being invis'd is definitely recommened under 30th or so. But just FYI, from Shadowhaven, if you simply hug the right hand wall and take every right hand turn, it will take you straight to the Shadeweaver's zone. Repeat this with left on the way back obviously.

This method does take you into one room that is isn't technically on the direct path there, but it's a circular room, so you just go in and come out right back out on track.

Hope this helps someone =)

I went to this place last night with a 15 pally, 17 rouge and i was a 15 ranger we chained killed for 6 hours no stopping, except for stamina rests. went from 15 to 20 in 5 hours and when i logged the rouge and pally stayed on and got to 25 before they camped. Only twinked item i had was an ikky bp and fbss.

I don' see it posted antwhere but while camping the bandit camp i came across a wepon called the "journymans _____" Don't remember the second part it was a very weird name. It was beastlord only and only the large clases like val shir and barbarian. It looks like a claw and is hand to hand +1ac then two or three other stat buffs i now beleave this is a very rare drop cause in 5 and a half hours only 2 were droped. Any info on what this is for would be appreciated
RE: Journymens Wepon
# Jul 12 2002 at 1:05 PM Rating: Decent
I found 2 of these in about an hour at camp 2. Never found any at camp 1. You can tell the recondites will drop it if they are holding a little claw like thing. The beastlord in our group didn't want either of them, so I took them both. Figure I'll make a trip to Shar Vahl to get kill that little girl for her robe (that warriors can wear) and give them away to Beastlords. By the way, the only reason it can be used only by larger races is because only those races can be beastlords. For example, the monk epic can be used only by humans and iksar because only they can be monks.

It's not "for" anything. It's a post-newbie magic weapon found on mobs of an appropriate level for its power.

Not everyone is twinked, ya know.

I notice in alot of the pics from monsters for this zone, they are all dark and hard to see, when I am here a always turn my plan clip and gamma all the way up, this zone is much more enjoyable that way i feel, try it out, you might like it too.

This is a really nice zone, but you have to be cautious. I went from 16 to 20 in a weekend here, mostly killing the same 3 Sensate Reishi mushrooms over and over and over. :)

Invis helps a LOT in here, but if you don't have one I recommend being very wary of the Plerg Phlarg Fiends. They're not too difficult to kill but they are very social attackers, and have a tendency to give you a disease called "spreading crud" that takes 30 minutes realtime to go away if you can't get a cure disease.

Fortunately the Sensates do not appear to be social, and they don't aggo (always conned "indifferent" to me), so they're great solo XP farms. They are also your source of food in the Caverns ("chunk of sensate reishi").

If you're a bard, be aware that Selo's does not work inside the caves, because it is an "outdoor" only song.

My #1 recommendation: Get a map before you even go in there. You WILL get lost, even with the map, and it will save your butt.

I Finally figured what makes him pop!

I was camping the Reishicyben and was a bit bored along with really wanting to figure out how to spawn the Minnowgulper. Well -here it is.. even though his loot just doesn't seem worth the trouble.

All you have to do is kill the Grimy Owlbear Cub 2-3 times in a row.. then presto instead of the owlbear popping.. the Minno Spawns.

Ok.. so what does he look like? NOTHING special. A matter of fact he looks Exactly like the Owlbear Cub except his name is different. First loot - NOTHING. Going to try it again while I wait for Reish.

BTW- Has anyone ever looted teh Yelloweys Collor from YellowEyes?? I've killed him about 6-8 times and have yet to see it.

Dulfis Mushrooms are used in a Vah Shir Shaman quest. Depending on your CHA and faction, they also sell for a decent price considering they are ground spawn.

me and my gf want to go and group here. 16 wiz, 14 chanter. Most the bandits con too high for us and was thinking about going down to the Shadeweaver's zone and pulling to there. I was hoping we could both invis and easily get down there. Do any of the mobs here see through invis that we should be careful about?

In the alcove by the miners you can get "a massive sediment delver" to spawn by killing enough of its placeholder. It is red to a level 17.
