Grieg is credited with opening the door for the Combine Empire's trip to the moon. After they found out they would not be able to leave, Grieg was expelled to this castle. As he was attempting to find a way home, Grieg was driven mad by Luclin herself, and condemned to remain in what is now an ancient castle.

The mob you are thinking of was the "Servitor of Luclin." We didn't even attempt him as we only had one cleric.. and just like you, our tests showed (tests, meaning, I tested his melee damage, and a shaman sacrificed :p to see if it was slowable). Flurries, immune to slow, max hit on me was 348 (I'm a monk with roughly 1200AC) Red to me at 60.

Also, that key will work on another locked door. If you go to that main corridor (the HUGE one) go to the left side, instead of the right (right side leads to Servitor). It will bring you to a one way portal. Stepping on it will put you in a room with 2 mobs. If you go past that room and up a little set of stairs, you'll find Grieg.

Heres a couple links to some screenshots I took tonight while we were there:

The Servitor:

Greig (Hes flagged as a vendor o_O):
http://www.afflictionguild.com/media/users/Jaiieq/Grieg.jpg

And a sample of Griegs melee output (I didn't last long due to the 4 level 60 SK's that guard him, which you'll notice one of the 1000 point HTs on the screenshot):

There is only one area we haven't explored yet in Greigs that I plan on hitting next time I go.

Named

I took a solid level group in the the other day. Myself War, Monk, Ench, Cleric, Druid, and Rogue. All of us but the druid were lvl60 with epics. None of us had been to the zone, and we pretty much went in blindly exploring.

I can confirm seeing Greig spawning and despawning some other strange unique sounds in the zone. It was by far one of the most fun zones I have ever done. It was exciting and freaky at the same time. I didnt handle the sound of the screams and children laughing and strange voices that are ambient as you explore too well, but it made great fun.

We got VERY deep into the zone, where we could track 2 named and Greig himself. We found our way to the first named who was level60 and made for one hella long melee fight for a single group. It took so long we had to mez / charm off the respawns, but in the end and very low mana we won the fight. He dropped a 1h weapon for MNK/BL only. Pretty nice stats and dmg/del with ac and an effect. (Rage of the Beast) I believe it was. The mob also dropped a no drop no rent Greig's Key.

We found the second named spawn who conned red to level60 and was behind a locked door, which we used the key to open. The mob was "Protector of Luclin" or something to that effect. It had a dagger in one hand and owned us hardcore. He Flurried fast as hell and hit for 400's. The short time we did beat on him, I hadnt seen any noticeable damage taken on him. Also noteable, when our enchanter tried to slow him, he got the message that it was immune to changes in speed. :(

All in all, this zone was a complete blast, and I intened to take my guild back this next week for another attempt at this guy and maybe look a bit deeper within. Happy hunting!
new unrest
# Dec 28 2001 at 5:21 PM Rating: Decent
this zone is crazy. its like a higher and creeper level unrest. There are mobs in here that can change your gender and class. and some of the creatures even have disiplins. And casters cannot yes cannot meditate during fights for awhile or the mob goes after you and even if you are acrosse the room it will still go after you. Make sure you have a good taunter or you will die easly. very very tuff zone so 50+ is looking the way its gonna be.

I zoned in from dawnshroud peaks as a 54 Monk to look around, and do some scouting..low and behold I had a friend waiting for me at the zone called, an Altra Sumonium (sp) who pummled me with hits like 256 and around that. I had to fd and wait for mend just to zone back out..it was fun seeing myself as a FDed fiend though.

Alchamist and others

We've fought that Alchemist two times so far. First thought was that she had 100K HPs. Sure seemed like it. I've fought 32K HP mobs with one group, 60K HP mobs with 2 groups, this sure felt more than 60K with the 2 groups we had present. Second thought is that she just has an INSANE regen. The regen theory seems more accurate, over the 100K one. We had a number of adds popping onto us while we were fighting her (she doesn't hit that hard, 175 or so max... meaning that we make mana while fighting her). Turning our attention to drop one add while she was at 50% health, turning back to her... she was FULL HEALTH! So I'm believing that it's more of a massive regen on her. She has to be getting back a hundred or more HPs per tick or something equally as insane.

Takes forever to drop her, and even then she'll gate if you're not close enough to her spawn spot. When she gates, which she did to us a few times before we just fought her closer to her spot, she gets the standard 1/4 health back (this was the second time we fought her, first time she didn't gate as we must have been close enough and didn't even know it). But she was at 1/2 health by the time she had reached us again (only about 10 seconds to run to us, but that's gotta be the regen I was talking about).

She has dropped only a spell both times we killed her. First time it was the new mage mod rod spell. Better mana/hp ratio, and 3 charges per rod. Second time it was some necro spell I've never heard of, or know what it even does. Have to get it into the hands of one of our necros.

Couple other names around, no where near the HPs/regen that little gnome has. On oddity, is that there's this room with what looks like a concrete encasing for a coffin. Upon entering that room, everyone can see Grieg standing up on it looking at us. Then he poofs away. Don't know if it's a ghosting bug from another floor, or it's a purposeful spooky element. I'm leaning towards the spooky element, because as far as I've been able to tell, this zone doesn't have any other floors.

One of our party members said that Grieg kept appearing infront of him throughout our hunt. Kept just appearing saying "Come to me!" over and over, then our member ran off saying he's following Grieg and that he's under his control. We don't know what to think about this. Think he was just hamming it up and messing with us, and Grieg wasn't leading him anywhere. The only kooky coincidence is that he led us straight to that coffin I was talking about, where he said he could still see Grieg (where we had all seen him blip in and out for a second). Was a wierd hunt. He was so taken by what he was telling us that he saw and needed to follow, that he was leading us through mobs that hadn't been cleared yet, and we had some fights on our hands as we kind of "Quaked" our way to where he was taking us (kinda dumb running around like that I know, but we didn't really know what to do at that point... was he REALLY seeing this stuff? Or messing with us?)

Not sure what to think of all of this. Sounds like one hell of a programming job on this dungeon to make it this spooky and odd, if it is indeed true that our member saw what he says he saw. Or he could just been on a heavy dose of drugs that day heh... no idea. Won't know until I see (if I see) this for myself.

I've found two spots where Grieg will spawn. One is on top of a coffin just after the first courtyard, the second is on top of a printing press further in. At both spots he will appear for a very brief time then despawn. There is also a Dark Vision that follow the same routine that appears a few rooms from the locked door with wizard spires behind them.
Good luck figuring this place out.

Went in with 4 groups of 50+ and got way deep. Fun zone with all the shape changing going on, but very confusing finding the right mob, even with an assist key, because everyone looks different. I was fighting beside my party members, who looked like underbulks, shissar, Plants, little Cobalt Scar Dragon looking guys, Undead Mutants, Nekkid Ogre Chicks, and all sorts of other Luclin type Mobs. It's a good place to go to get a sampling of the diversity of mobs in Luclin, but I don't think the loot codes are loaded yet, because we killed probably 100 mobs and got nothing but words, runes and one cheezy Wis bracelet (wis+3 AC3). Tricky Dungeon though, because the Mobs pop out of thin air and are severely underconned. It was easy enough to get in, but very difficult to get out. We had no Druids or Wizzys, so we had to fight our way back. With the Lag problems in Luclin, (this zone is pretty bad) and the massive aggros, it was a pain to get out. It's kind of like the Roach Motel for Players - Roaches check in, but they don't check out - We had a nasty CR on our exit and were glad to finally escape. Kind of Nightmarish in there of the Blair witch variety.

Hail,
Was with Eldoran the other night..Just want to agree on the loot issue... we had 3 groups of 50+ and I believe we got fairly deep into zone. NO LOOT. Nada..the wis thing was a decent 20-30 lvl loot piece. But trash for level it takes to get there.
One point. Seems to be a change in AI on the mobs. INSANE aggro on healers..reg taunt tactics weren't working as well as they usually do. Our group healer got wiped 3 times..that's with 2 rangers and 2 pally's in group trying to peel off him as well. Definatly a change of pace. Fix the loot table and this place could Rock...

BTW El, your pretty hot as a nekkid troll chick =)

We went into this zone with about 2 groups of 55+ people, including a 60 warrior and 60 enchanter, and didn't have too much trouble with it. The zone can be very amusing since the lower level mobs have a proc that will change the appearance of your party members. Everybody will see something different, even the mobs you're fighting.

We killed a 56 level mob called the Alchemist which had ton of hps. Probably over 40k. She dropped absolutely nothing. We also killed a small named halfling female that dropped a druid spell the first time and a 2hb broom the 2nd time that had some stats and procs knockback.

All in all it's a fun zone, but I'm not sure if it's completely itemized yet.

Yup, went in here last night...hilarious dungeon due to the polymorph other proc. I've seen a giant beetle mage, an ogre paladin and a Nertherbian Necro in my party now. Sadly, as a wizard who's quite good at aggro management I didn't get shapechanged :(
I have a theory that this dungeon operates a diabolical trap designed by the developers...its just so damn tempting for the casters to go into melee just to get procced. :)

Ok. As far as we got, which was only the courtyard, they were pretty easy. Some were fairly MR. The sendings are not undead, but the Singultous Primorous are. We got to the courtyard and a Dark Vision appeared out of nowhere and proceeded to kick the crap out of us. He was hitting for 160 a pop. He is also un-mezzable. Our group was a lvl 50 cleric, lvl 46 cleric, lvl 51 paladin, lvl 54 Enchanter, lvl 50 magician, and lvl 53 necro.

Faction hits are:
Worse with Grieg
Worse with the dark ones (or something like that)
Worse with Luclin!!!!

Nothing good, and a hit with a god is where I draw the line.
What this zone probably requires is a group around level 55, and from the spells they cast try keep MR above 100, cause even at 160 they could hurt.
RE: This zone is messed
# Dec 10 2001 at 6:14 PM Rating: Decent
Hmm, so you would care about a faction hit with say, CT, or Innoruuk?(assuming you are not an inkie or an Iksar, otherwise change the example to some of the good gods)
Thats a tad limiting....

RE: This zone is messed

Read the story line on Greig's End and you will learn that Luclin had stricken Greig with madness as he was trying to find a way to help thhe Combine empire get back to Norrath. That should tell you Luclin is just out to mess with anyone that he/she/it gets within his range of influence. I doubt you will ever find a positive faction hit for Luclin.

You can get there by heading north from the Nexus via the Netherbian Lair and just go directly through the zone and then zone into the DawnShroud, Dawnshroud is shaped a round circle about 3/4 the size of Frontier mountains. If you follow both right paths you will come to the entrance of Sanctus Seru, If you take the left paths, both, you will come to Grieg's End. Last night I zoned into Greig's end which I would compare to the Karnor's Castle zone in the Dreadlands for it's mob level etc.

Greigs End:

You basically zone in and then move down a corridor to a room that will go two ways, both with circle around and down to a 60 X 120 ft room with only one entrance going deeper. We fought Dark Sendings, Black Sendings, Simultaneous Particlaous, and then finally got owned by a Anna Simacularum (name spellings are not exact sorry). No drops except for some coin and words so far, but I would venture to say that the +50 mobs in here have some really nice drops because they are highly MR and have lots of HP like you are in Sirens Grotto (but not quite that tough), our group consisted of:

58 Monk
51 Cleric
52 Enchanter
43 Druid
51 Necro
52 Ranger

NOTE: When we did get wiped out which was close to the zone the mobs have a better AI and will come grief camp your corpse. Since the entrance is rather small (little bit smaller that entrance to City of Mist) you will need a FD class to go in and move the monsters away for CR. We had trouble with that because people kept zoning in and looking around near the entrance and retraining over and over.

with kind regards,

Tedahmeister (57 warrior - ECI)

Greig was a powerful combine geomancer.. this is his castle.. supposed to be like KC but you cant Coth here
RE: What is is
# Dec 17 2001 at 11:16 AM Rating: Excellent
Grieg was the geomancer that allowed the Combine to travel to Luclin, but when they were told that he could not get them back, he was run out on a rail and held up in what is now called by the people of Seru and Katta, Grieg's End. Here, he tried to find a way to travel back to Norrath, but Luclin intervened, driving him mad.

All the mobs here react differently, so tactics are based on a mob-by-mob basis, really. Once you get used to the mob types and which is resistant to which and which aggroes more to healers than this, it'll become somewhat calculated and less mysterious. Specially when loot begins to drop.
