This thicket of growing fungi is located to the south of the Tenebrous Mountains. Once a stronghold for the Vah Shir who used the caves in the west as a source of acrylia, this region is controlled by the grimlings of Luclin. To the south of this forest is Hollowshade Moor while the Acrylia Caverns make up a network of caves to its west, home to the Grimlings and Khati Sha.

While the region consists mostly of Grimlings, there are plenty of local wildlife as well, specifically owlbears and sonic wolves. There are also a few bandit camps scattered about the forest. In the southeastern corner of the forest is an adventurer-friendly outpost of Vah Shir with guards, vendors, and a banker.

Does anyone know how often the no-drop earring falls from a Sonic Mangler? My friend and I pulled a single one, it was AC4, STR3, AGI3, DEX3.
See ya!!

I think the Grimlings maybe little higher lvl than what is posted here. A 53 shaman guildmate and myself 53 mage stopped to check out one of the grimling camps. pretty easy for us to single pull them but the priest conned light blue to me. Hope the info helps. =)

I didn't see this in the list above, but my lev 20 Bard got his butt kicked twice by a Sonic Battlehound in this zone. Saw right through invis, hits for 78 pts, stuns. No idea what the con was, never even saw him. Can't give you a /loc either, except that I was following the road out of Tenebrous probably around 750, -500.

The game did give me some cool, if ineffective, advice when it saw me:

a sonic battlehound can easily kill someone like you. You should run!

Sigh.

Dark blue con to a level 40. Tried kiting him, but he followed erratically (the grimling add didn't help). Found him somewhat NW of the fortress.

Ok this guy resisted every root or ensare i cast on him....not good for a druid....he was light blue Nukes hit but for half to three quarters the damage. down on hps and mana ran to the out post and kited him with the guards beating on him....My wis is 210 so most stuff lands. Breath of ro even gose off almost everytime now....so I think he is imune to movement restriction spells.. Be Very Careful here...Im getting a monk friend to find ou what he drops...

Sonic Battlehound was a dark blue con to me at 50. Level is likely to be 40 upwards. They're wandering mobs, and I encountered mine in the western part of the zone, quite a bit south of Acrylia. Didn't notice any on the route to Tenebrous the couple of times I've taken it
As I'm in the habit of conning everything from long range, I noticed he saw invis and steered clear (was omw to meet some friends and kill grimlings, didn't want the hassle).

The Sonic Battlehound conned deep blue to my 47 Paladin. Resisted almost everything I cast on him. Doubles for up to 83 and hits quickly. Tons of HPs, only took him to about half health. He ambushed me on the way to Tenebrous just across the stream from the Grimling camp nearest the outpost. Luckily one Flash of Light took on him at bub and a half of health left for me. Had never seen one before but will certainly steer clear of them in future unless I am with a group.
Haste
# Jan 02 2002 at 9:43 AM Rating: Decent
There is talk of a Haste ring with like AC 10 that drops form the Overseer. I have camped him for a bit and never seen anything but scalp and a neck slot item. Anyone else that can confirm his drops?

This guy dropped a sword 10/32 Ac 5 neck piece with some stats and a no-drop scalp. Does anyone know what quest the scalp is for ? Can't seem to find information on it. Thank you ( and he hits hard and fast.. blue con to a 51 SK )
Prophet something or other
# Dec 30 2001 at 11:29 PM Rating: Default
Has anyone tried taking on the Prophet? He is a Grimling near the Acrylia zone. Mobs surrounding him are on a 3 minute timer (seriuosly insane). He is blue at 49, but the son of a gun was hitting for 190.
No roamers
# Dec 30 2001 at 10:23 PM Rating: Default
After wandering the zone for awhile today, it appears that there are very few isolated roamers in the zone (making solo pulling difficult). Most of the zone's creatures appear limited to well-defined camps, from which are nearly impossible to pull singles without mass aggro or crowd control capability.

Sort of the opposite mob situation of LOIO.

Overseer Gnerpokkel
# Dec 30 2001 at 1:36 PM Rating: Decent
Fought this guy the other day. Conned dark blue to me at 54 and blue to my 49th necro partner...funny thing is...he summoned me when I pulled him. Went down easy once we got him pulled but man I was scared when I was summoned because he has 4 spawns around him. Luckily they didnt aggro before I ran away from that area. He dropped 3 NO DROP items...a necklace and staff, both good for meleer's and a scalp for a quest.

Where does he spawn? Randomly in a specific camp or can he spawn anywhere? Just curious which camp and what his placeholder is... Thx!

Sonic Mangler
# Dec 25 2001 at 10:48 PM Rating: Default
Pulled a sonic mangler by accident today. It's immune to motion (snare/darkness) spells ("Your target is immune to changes in its run speed") and resisted all roots. Hits hard and fast, and my poor druid partner had to run it around the entire cat camp before about 6 of them finally killed it.

We just got in this zone yesterday with me 49 cleric, a 53 warrior and a 50 bard. We got to the little camp north of the VahShir outpost, and first attempt we had to run because we aggro'ed like 8 of them :p And yes the VahShir will assist you so just run to the outpost and it should be ok (Really funny to see all of them doing the benny hill run after the Grimmlings :)
And btw the grimling priest (Which can gate too, he tried several times -happy stuns-) and the soldiers are blue to 50 :)
Key piece?
# Dec 15 2001 at 9:24 AM Rating: Default
I really don't know if this is the same sort of quest at all, but if you go behind the camp an talk to the grimling prisoner? something like that, you can see her / him inside a hollowed out tree, talk to that npc for a bit an you will get a key to free Vah Shir prisoners in the fort, or something like that.. Anywho I'm sure if your going in to kill the higher lvl grimlings you may find this key a little rewarding to have with ya.

You say, 'Hail General Staginar'
General Staginar says 'Greetings, Kormus. Are you here to serve in the war against the grimling horde?
You say, 'yes i am here to serve in the war'
General Staginar says 'As you probably know, we've been battling the grunts for nearly a generation now. They have proven to be a challenging opponent. We've inflicted great casualties upon their kind in this war, yet somehow, they seem to grow even more numerous. Barring some miracle, they will become a serious threat to Shar Vahl very soon. One remaining strategy has a chance of bringing us victory, but none have met the requirements for its implementation.
You say, 'what are the requirements?'
General Staginar says 'Our intelligence has provided us with some information about the enemy. They blindly follow a being they refer to as 'the master'. Our high spiritists have sensed a powerful presence from the caverns beyond our mines, but only those who possess a special key can venture there. None who have obtained the key and ventured into the caverns have been seen alive again.
You say, 'where can i get the key?'
General Staginar says 'The grimling high commander holds half of a magical acrylia obelisk that will transport the wielder to their master's stronghold. I have slain the high commander who held the other half of the obelisk and I have the knowledge of it's construction. I will only give it to one who has proven to be a powerful soldier, for nothing less would stand a chance against the enemy ruler.
You say, 'what high commander?'
General Staginar says 'The grimling high commander will only appear if their compound to the north is overrun. There are two encampments near the compound that will need to be invaded as well in order to secure the area. It is a very complex mission and I will only authorize you to lead it if you have demonstrated competence. Serve our people by successfully completing the lesser raids here in the forest. Bring me the Golden Medal of the Shar Vahl as proof of your prowess, or, if you are already at least as powerful as I am, there is another test that will give me confidence in your abilities.
You say, 'what other test?'
General Staginar says 'If you are less experienced than I am, performing this task will gain you nothing. With that in mind, take this box and venture through the mines and into the caverns. Combine in it Gooplart's tooth, Gizgargank's scalp, Grikplag's skull, Gnildaria's eye, Gnerpokkel's heart, Gilgaplank's toes, the husk of the summoned burrower, and the shackles of a Vah Shir captive. Return to me with the Box of the Hero of Shar Vahl and I will send a team of our veterans to escort you into battle.

If i'm not mistaken; Theres a Kerran prisoner in the Warrens, if yuou give him a key off of one of the kobalds<sp>, you get his shackles.

So i would guess you need to find a Shar Vah captive (prob in acrylia caverns) and give him the key you get from the grimmling captive>

Just a thought.
Key Quest, entrance prolly in Acrylia Caverns....
# Dec 14 2001 at 10:17 AM Rating: Default
Been there yesterday with a bard friend.... in the cat peoples camp there is a general who gives out a keyquest. As far as i could follow him (it was late hehe) they faught the grimmlins for a long time but couldnt "erase" em cause they have a secret place with huge power. That place is supposed to be under earth....Acrylia Caverns. To get the key one have to kill "a grimling high commander" which holds a part of it. The cat general has the other part and will construct the key for u. I assume the place it brings u to is a)just a crappy secret place in the caves OR b)ant that would rock.. a place like sebilis .. as the mobs in the caves are about lvl48 up.
Well maybe i ll return to the forrest and check it out with more ppl. Didnt really want to do it with just the two of us....once went visible in the middle of a grimlin camp and a bout 10 of em nearly shot me down. :)

Let me know if u find the grimlin high commander guy. Tks.

However i was there with my 26 monk and i couldnt explore the zone very well to find the jail everything there is blue and agros. Me (35 monk) and a RL buddy (42 SK) went to explore this zone. The first camps we found as we entered were small camps that got rather large deeper in we traveled. So far, we have not seen anything great drop except a low lvl weapon 2hs 9/46 damage bonus 13 weighs 14lbs. The SK was able to single pull with ease. The worst one we found was the wizard caster a ManaCrafter who would nuke none stop for roughly 180. The only adds we ever got was a silly beetle called rhino beetles. They have what seems low ac and roughly 800hp.

42 SK can single pull from camp np.
Good exp for a 35 monk and not bad for a 42 Sk.
Single puller a must.
roughly 800 hit points

Just found a new camp at roughly +500+1200 very large camp with lots of blues and even a yellow or 2 to the SK. Some are named diferently than anything we have found yet.

Hope this information helped. Will repost if we find anythnig new.

This is a mid-level zone. I believe it's attached to the Vah Shir newbie zone.

Minor correction: Shadeweaver's Thicket is the Vah Shir newbie zone. Grimling Forest is attached to Hollowshade Moor (the other zone connected to Shar Vahl), which is a zone for levels 15-30 (give or take a few levels).
