This thicket of growing fungi is located to the south of the Tenebrous Mountains. Once a stronghold for the Vah Shir who used the caves in the west as a source of acrylia, this region is controlled by the grimlings of Luclin. To the south of this forest is Hollowshade Moor while the Acrylia Caverns make up a network of caves to its west, home to the Grimlings and Khati Sha.

While the region consists mostly of Grimlings, there are plenty of local wildlife as well, specifically owlbears and sonic wolves. There are also a few bandit camps scattered about the forest. In the southeastern corner of the forest is an adventurer-friendly outpost of Vah Shir with guards, vendors, and a banker.

Good Experience and Loot for mid 30's
# Jun 21 2002 at 6:34 PM Rating: Decent
This zone is very good exp and loot for players between lvl 30 and 45. It takes an experienced group though. The mobs agro easily and you can find yourself surounded by 8 Grimmlings.

You will have to plan a group of friends to come with you to this zone. Nobody comes to this zone, so you will be very hard pressed to find a group there.

Acrylia Runes

Please don't quote me on this but on serfing the numerous websites I seem to recall running across one that was geared toward casters. Within it I recall that the runes are used for wizzy research. Im not sure how this works since I dont have a caster high enuff to do research.

Just my 2 cents worth.
mines in the Grim Forest and AC zone line
# Apr 26 2002 at 1:58 PM Rating: Excellent
I don't think anyone EVER camps this area, so here are some notes

these grims at the end of the tunnel hit hard 70 to 110s. The priest complete heals at about 25 to 30 percent so if you have 2 or 3 nukers call for fire at 40 percent and have all folks cascade on him at once to knock him off cause he complete heals himself

have magic resistance up as the chanter likes to charm you!

there is acryla to be mined here for exp if you have already greened out the orefinders in Tem Mountains. But it only dropped off the grimling miners and it was about as common as the drops in tem mountains(read - not enough) but no gem drops here to speak of.

We camped this area for about 2 hours - the spawns seem to have no special place holders yet- and the respawn cycle is pretty fast. Once the Priest had a special hammer on him with a neat graphic but FS stats. so no special items found here yet. Might get a group here again sometime but maybe not. We had a 47 necro, 44 Druid, 45 Ranger, 38 mage, 45 Shaman and a 47 Monk there. We were able to hold this area with no deaths but we came pretty close a few times while we were breaking the spawn.

If you zone into Acryla and DO NOT take a step forward you should be safe... but there are some nasty grims here... so watch your step.

Do not use a pet here. If you cast a pet it will walk straight away from the zone line and into the main pull area aggroing about 4-6 grims. If the area is unbroken that will be 2 guards a miner a preist and a chanter.

Oh and to answer other players:

the best places for small pieces is Tem Mountains off the laborer and Runner - but it is a rare drop off orefinders and (in grim forest)Miners
small/ large / and blocks of Acryla drop uncommon off of orefinders and miners as well as common off the Baku soldiers, grim laborer and runner in Tem Mountains.

So far there is no know use for acryla etched runes... apparently they are grimling money. just sell them to merchants.

you are lucky if you can find small pieces or bricks of Acryla off of merchants. This is rare as these are worth about 50 pp to player characters and most players do not sell them to the vendors for the few pp they get. If you see them on a vendor... BUY IT!

Small Acrylia Pieces

I have heard from some that the Grimlings drop small acrylia pieces and then others have told me that you get them from a vendor. Does anyone know where to get these pieces of acrylia? Thanks

Safety?

Trying to get my cowardly Vah Shir over to Katta Castellum. She is only lvl 16, but a shammy with sow....how easy/safe is it to just wander the zone? considering the lore behind the grimlings and a generation war with the Vah Shir I'll assume they are hostile. Any info on argo range? I know back in Hollowshade moor the argo range is insanely high. Also are there any wandering mobs or do the Grimlings stick to their camps?

The grimlings tend to not wander (from what I have seen), but the passage thru Tenebrous mountains will wipe you out. Everything in that zone sees through invisiblity, and they aggro on every player (up to level 60) from what I have seen. You *will* need an escort through Tenebrous.

Also, in Katta, the graveyard has level 30s undead in it that are spawned by stepping in the wrong place.

Good luck on your journey. I did something similar with my level 13 enchanter, but was guiding a level 60 cleric to Katta, and had to get a few rezzes along the way. The Coteries hit in the upper 80s-90s and have some proc based nuke for 200hp. The sonic wolves are immune to changes in their running speed.

I didnt have any problems getting my sowed lvl 20 monk through to Katta, but you have to keep a good eye out and take some areas a bit slow. If you are careful, you're usually ok, there was only once when I needed to FD, and that was because I came over a hill to find a wolf lookin at me.

It's dangerous, but doable.

Level 20 to 40?

Almost all the mobs here were bright blue to me, ranger, level 40. Lots of mountainous areas, levitate helps enormously. Couldn't get the sonics to drop earrings, (that's why we went there). My partner and I had to run to the Vah Shir outpost and let the guards kill the mobs several times, grimlings kept agroing on us. Very exasperating.

There are merchants there too. I believe the merchants sell the stones you need to give to the Vah Shir.
Multi lvl raid quests

Near the zone in from Hollowshade Moor, there's a Vah Shir outpost with a bank and a merchant. There's also several Vah Shir NPC's who talk about raiding Grimling camps. Looks like they are made for different lvls of chars since each guard says to get people near his strength and they conned green through red. He also says when your party is ready to start give him some kind of acrylia. It sounds like fun but I'm not sure where to get the acrylia pieces.

Also the whole zone makes me want to sing "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane. Trippy man.....

It is not bugged, it always works. The spawn time on the officer is supposed to be random. It could take 5 minutes or it could take 3 hours. Most of the time its about 20 to 60 minutes from what I've experienced. I thought they were pretty fun too :)

An Imprisoned grimling
# Dec 07 2001 at 3:57 PM Rating: Decent
I found this grimling being guarded in the outpost. After talking to her, "How can I help You?", then "give me the key" she hands me a forked prison key. Lore Item, No drop, No rent. Says I need to help a big catman in prison. Anyone come across a big catman in prison anywheres?
