Mons Letalis stands for "lethal mountain" and is named so for a reason. The harsh climate of Marus Seru extends up to this very high mountain range, where more powerful creatures have come to live.

Below the mountains are deep gouges in the land, thought to have been waterways in years past. These are now teeming with Luclin wildlife.

Also found here are the remains of an ancient teleporter of Combine design, its use lost in history as it is now mostly destroyed.

I have 3 of 4 items needed for those FABULOUS Pants, WOODSMAN'S GREAVES (just joking, they pretty much stink). The final piece is a Pouch of Fire Stones. It is supposed to drop from a Powerful Rockhopper. Well, I spent 8 hours killing Mature and Adult Rockhoppers at the zone point to The Grey, all the time looking for this elusive little pest, with no luck. I did see, and kill, a Frenzied Rockhopper when I first got to the zone, and he was the last "special" Rockhopper I saw. I wanted to know if anyone has ever seen him, and if anyone has a Pouch of Fire Stones for sale on Fennin Ro. Thanks.

I got the pouch of fire stones off a "firey stonegrabber" or something like that near the Grey zone.

Do mobs in this zone SEE INV's ??
RE: See INV's
# Jun 05 2002 at 5:07 AM Rating: Decent
Some but not all of the spire spirits do. Just like the shadows in twilight sea. Most other mobs do not. I won't swear to all other mobs, but none of the shik'nar, stonegrabbers, thought leeches or rockhoppers I saw seemed to.

Many people may not be kos to the shik'nar and/or rockhoppers in this zone.

I've been looking for this elusive little *%#% and he doesn't seem to pop anywhere, neither does anyone in the zone know where he spawns or if he actually does exist in this zone. Anyone got any ideas, I'd really appreciate it??

Updating old posts in case someone wants to do this quest.

I found him after several hours camping the PH that others have noted in the crevice west of the spires at 325, 800.

Kill the adult hopper that roams back and forth in this small crevice.

Its an annoying camp for a lvl65 with stonegrabbers attacking you all the time.

The mighty rockhopper is aggro.

Try Scarelt Desert monk was camping him there and I think got him eventually. At least he left after 2 days :) Good luck *plunders thru 4 bags twilight armor quest junk* Hehe.

One can spend several weeks in this crappy zone looking for their 'one named'. So far I have found that the TS armor is pretty much trash except for a couple items. Of course, the decent items are nearly impossible to put together. I for instance have been waiting for a Stonegrabber of Growth to spawn and it's just not going to happen in my lifetime. I wipe out everything that moves in this god forsaken zone to no avail. Been doing it forever too.

If I ever do complete this quest I will never again do another TS armor quest, maybe consider shining on quests altogether. This kind of thing really turns me off. I'd rather level up and get some real gear than suffer with this crap. Verant's got their head clear up their ***.
Stonegrabber of Growth
# May 19 2002 at 9:10 AM Rating: Decent
Is this mob nerfed? Spent 4 weeks here quadding stonegrabbers in all corners of the zone. Killed every other named that popped, yet he never shows his cowardly face. Does anyone have an exact loc on this guy? Anything special need to be done to get him to appear? This is bordering on the most absurd rarity I have ever seen otherwise...

I have killed this guy once. He was wondering on the tall hill just in front of the Marus Seru zone past the first gully. He wandered over the hills and neer the thought leach caves. My theory is different rares will always spawn in the same area the same ones seemed to always repop after killing a rare if I hunted in the same area. I have seen the ancient stonegrabber, gravelgrabber, frozen stonegrabber, imploding stonegrabber and the stonegrabber of growth all either to the right of the marus seru zone line in the gully or on those hills neer there by the thought leach caves. Hope this helps.

I have made quite a few trips to Mons Letalis to see if this guy is up and he has not been up once. I am now killing every stonegrabber That comes near The Grey zone and still cannot get him to pop. I did talk to someone that killed this guy but he said he camped it for 5 weeks, killing everything in sight. Finally on a random trip to The Grey he saw this guy up and killed it. That is far too long for this piece and was wondering if anyone had more specifics on where and how to get this guy to pop. Thank you. Balunknot Mulejuice, 46 DRUID, Maison Noble, Xegony

The powerful thought leech (needed for the wizard twilight robe) spawned for me in the thought leach cave, first room where it branches off to the left. Good luck. :)
Adamantite Thought Horror?
# May 09 2002 at 4:46 PM Rating: Decent
Does this spawn in the caves along with the rest of these nasty leeches-on-a-stick??

I wouldn't normally be worried knowing that the 'regular' thought horrors aren't that tough in a good group, but .. maybe it's the Adamantite. I think I read too much X-Men.

Any word on spawn times, HP, etc? *sigh* I guess I'll have to go huntin'!

My friends (53 monk, 55 & 49 shaman) and I (52 monk) took on an Ancient Rockhopper that con'd white to me. It hit btw 100 - 150 and could not be slowed. On our first attempt all of us except the 49 shaman barely escaped with our lives. We brought on one of our clerics to team up with the two monks. After the main monk tank was buffed up with symbol and other cleric buffs we tried the Ancient again. After 7 complete heals we finally took him down. The mob must have about 20k hp. The fight lasted about 5 minutes. We got our revenge:) The mob didn't drop any good loot...only a LQ hide. What else would you expect from something so very old?
RE: Ancient Rockhopper
# May 26 2002 at 7:18 PM Rating: Decent
well , if you had listened the call of Tunare you would have realized that mob is an animal ... get the help of a druid or a ranger and fear kite it ... doable with less effort and "heals" .

Killed him tonight, is almost a carbon copy of the dino in OOT. around 10k hp's, hits for a little more, and resists about the same. Dropped nada, wouldn't bother wasting my time with it again.

Never mind, discovered what its for. This piece plus: a runic ear plug, astral jewel, and mark of the noble, will net ye the Paladin's Twilight 2 hander sword. Hope this helps for some out there. What an interesting scavenger hunt for these pieces of armor and weapons (so far, some are not that great considering the trouble to get these drops).

I have this Robe... My advise to you. Get a small group together and swamp the whole leech area, including the Hivemistress and her friend. The Twilight Sea mobs only pop after the normal non-named are killed. I got lucky and he ( powerful ) popped right as we were about to log.

For the named stonegrabbers
# Apr 07 2002 at 7:29 PM Rating: Excellent
I just spend my lvls 51 to 54 in this zone, so I can tell you that the best place (for me) to hunt and be safe (no adds, roamers) is just at the exit of the tunnel going to the Grey. Just stay there and pull mob(s), killing stonegrabbers will make the named spawn and usualy just in the next canyon on your right when facing the tunnel...
Hope this help a bit ;)

I pulled this guy without realizing that it was special. I was Charm kiting and it took me about five Stonegrabbers to finally bring him down. I was determined to see what this thing dropped. LOL I was pretty disapointed when all he showed was a medium quality rockhopper pelt. Ah well, so goes.

fierce rockhopper and raging? rockhopper are semi rare spawns in the northwest part of the zone, seems like the stonegrabber that spawns at the beginning of the trench (you will know what im talking about if you head to this spot and wait for the sg to spawn, 11min 30sec spawn at loc P1100, P1100 around) may be the PH for these guys, they both dropped a jewel (one was astral, other was meteor: dont know which dropped what tho) and were fairly easy to solo at 51 with pet.
light stonegrabber and embedded stonegrabber both spawned nearly next to each other near loc 0, N1000. to get to this spot, enter from marus seru ent, through up invis and head right out of the tunnel (be sure clip plane is up a bit). you will see the beginning of a trench in the southeast corner of the zone, follow the trench until you come to a 3 trench-way intersection, then head toward the eastern zone wall and you should be at a very big flat part which is great for groups of 2 or more to pull to. no stonegrabbers, rockhoppers or shiknar see invis. kill all the stonegrabbers in sight, they spawn up and down the trenches and are the PH to the embedded stonegrabber and the light stonegrabber. light drops a light etched emerald used for cleric TS hammer. and embedded drops an embedded mithril figurine used for beastlord TS tunic.

Ancient Rockhopper

This guy is tough. Failed twice to solo him because his Magic Resistance is too high. It doesn't make sense that a 50+ mob would carry a quest item for the Twilight Armor Quests when the level of the other mobs are in the mid to high 30's. Anyone kill this guy? He's got like 15k hps and hit me for 162 damage. Gotta know if his corpse will poof after 30 seconds or not. :)He must carry something but hides.

RE: Ancient Rockhopper

A druid and myself (both level 55) beat this guy. He doesnt drop anything that I have seen so I dont think he is for the Twilight Quests, all of those mobs I have seen drop their pieces everytime.

There is many wierd mobs in the next zone over as well....Ancient Zelniak, Massive Lightcrawler, and Ancient Lightcrawler that i killed multiple times and never dropped a thing.

Its probly all related to a quest that either has not been implemented yet or involves doing something else other than slaughtering these creatures.

I know that some of the Ancient mobs are for the twilight sea quest...Ancient StoneGrabber, Ancient Sun Revenant....so i guess it could be possible the other ancients are in it just to throw everyone off.

Also around the same spot are the Fiery StoneGrabber, drops a Pouch of Fire Stones, and StoneGrabber of Growth, drops a Growth Stone. Anyone know what quest these items are for?

My Findings
# Mar 04 2002 at 2:23 AM Rating: Default
I read some misconceptions about the spire. First of all, they may be undead, but currently normal invis is needed to get to indiff. The spire lord seems to be a random spawn of 12-36 hours, and has no placeholder. He spawns on the center of the wall at the back of the spire.

Repop on the spires seems to be 10-12 minutes. A good 50's group can go around and around the top of the spire and make very good exp. Mobs in this zone seem pretty overconned for the most part. Be sure to annul magic on these guys as their DS is nasty. The named sprire mobs can spawn in any of the fixed spawn points in the spire. It seems totally random.

We killed the ancient rockhopper. Was pretty easy. He dropped a couple hides. blah.
