The Stonebrunt Mountains is a very spiritual place, home of the Kejekan people, who rule over the land atop Mount Klaw in their small fortress of Kejek. Recently Heretics from Paineel and Kobolds from the Warrens have found out how to get into the area and have started causing trouble here for the kejekans.

This zone is available during Velious on progression servers.

Lager for Lagger

I'm just sitting here in my cups, trying to forget the horrors of the LD mob.....After going LD on my way to the Kunark boat 5 times consecutively, I am jumping for joy that Verant put a LoIo type zone on lag-free Odus...Making it easily accesable (relatively speaking) was a great idea, no more worrying about whether or not you will make it to the continent, much less the zone...not having DSL, cable, or any of that godly connection stuff, I can appreciate the effort to reduce lag in LoIo...Also, just a side note, isn't the new race in Luclin the kitty people? If so, I think there will be a lot of chances to raise faction with them once the expansion comes out.

Highland kobold camp for high 20s. lotsa loot (bamboo stuff) if your bind in kitty city you can empty your pocket every 30 min and get PPs (bamboo boken 6pp ...) and as a jeweller i brake my coppers and silvers with gems:) lotsa low mid gems here :)

The new LOIO with kitty city as a mill :)

Rangers using Snare and Panic Animal will do well in this new zone in a small group. Yes, the mobs are a bit of an under con. They hit VERY hard. However, if the mobs are always running away it does not matter. If you get an add - root it. I see a ranger and shaman grouped together doing VERY well here.

IMHO, the experience earned is much better then Kunark. The game designers seam to be much better at that EXP - LOOT - RISK FACTOR thing in there creation of the Warrens and these mountains. I always got much better exp in the warrens then I ever did in Crushbone or BlackBurrow (common level dungeons.) And the loot is MUCH better too. At level 10, you can make a NONE-TWINK fortune in the Warrens. And in trade off, you get that "slightly under-conned" mob. The mountains appear to be the same way.
Soloing in Stonebrunt
# Aug 31 2001 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
There's a couple of ways to get around doing just that.

First, the absolute highest areas of Stonebrunt-the snowcovered ones-lack monsters-though the worst beasts tend to wander just below. I set up shop near the river and patiently waited for gorillas and the like to wander below me-there's plenty of em.

Darkness,WHAM BAM WHACK DOT KILL. And nice experience too.

A 30ish group would do very well at the snowline, and I do well at 40th alone. Just follow the river up invis, get to just above the snowline, and pull to it. Pulling onto the slopes just below begs you to get mutiple adds,as plenty of things wander here.

However the pathing is predictable-if you learn the routes, you can pull from lower levels with reasonable safety.

Now,if I could just up my Kejek factions....

Verant needs to add + Kejekan faction for killing the Kobolds, since the Kobolds are "invading" their territory.

Well, I don't know that they will, unfortunately. After all, you don't get good faction in Halas for killing Goblins, Orcs or Gnolls in Everfrost. You need to do the quests there to raise your faction.

phat lewt
# Aug 31 2001 at 1:17 AM Rating: Default
This zone has extremely phat loot. I have a level 36 necr, 26 cleric, and various other toons. All the kobolds droped nice pp and some other items. Please remember that everyone isn't a 45+ toon that expects 1k+ for "phat lewt status". In the 10 hours I spent here I got OVER 200pp. I got a fire emerald off a GREEN CON TO MY LEVEL 34 NECRO!!!!!!! Note, I've not been hunting, just exploring. I've maybe killed 20-30 things here.

If that isn't phat lewt (for the level), what is?

As far as I know, there is no way to get faction with the kitties outside of quests. That sucks.

The zone is huge, and made for full group hunting. I have lost over 2 yellow bubs here from un-rezzed deaths since I got here (counting what I gained here) just from adds alone. Things hit really stinking hard here, and my necro with high AC (600ac unbuffed at lvl 36 with 110 agi) gets hit very hard. The rumor about them ignoreing Feign Death is incorrect. I really really really hate this zone. The zone is huge, and there are so many agro mobs running around, so many bugs, and the mountains are dangerous. Someone in my party fell for over 900 damage, but he only fell about 5-6 feet.

Pull a mob to the zoneline to the warrens and try to kill it. Tt will walk through the walls and fall off the map, and then start hitting you from below the floor.

Sure, this is a new zone and there are things to be worked out, but this zone is representative of all that sucks butt. People keep saying that the mobs are spread out. I can count on 1 hand how many times I've not had a mob within spell reach. Sometimes in the mountain/snow areas, I have had 10+ mobs around me. Then invis drops. I swear there is someone watching me play thinking "trying to solo explore in EQ??? bah! time to teach this necro a lesson."

Have I mentioned I really hate this zone yet? People keep raving about how this is druid/ranger heaven because of all the animal mobs, but even a druid can't kite the 30 mobs that agro while he is running circles quading. Shamans would do well solo in this zone, but there are no places to med. The mobs wander right through the kitty village and attack you when you are medding up. Cats won't help you kill a non-kobold, and most of the cats are green to me anyway.

To wrap up my thoughts:
This zone was poorly designed. Everything here is an undercon. The loot is great if you aren't Uber. Nothing has been discovered that should **** off pharmers. Solo is really really hard. It's buggy. It's hard to reach without invis (and sometimes with invis).

Now a rant about necros:
I played a cleric to level 27 before deciding it wasn't the class for me. I chose a necro because (on paper) they look really good, and they are very good soloers. I didn't realize that veriant doesn't consider soloers at all. I'm unable to get a group outside of guild groups and groups with people who don't know better. It only gets worse. We don't have good damage output, and we don't have any spells that will help in a group situation. After level 49 it's all downhill because we are going to be fighting in the same zone, fighting the same mobs, all the way to 60 (if you were to make it that far). Do something to help necros get in groups. Don't make a game that makes grouping required, and then make soloing classes that are near useless in a group. I guess none of this needed to be said because I've sold most of my stuff already, and I've started a shaman. The solo class with LOTS of really nice group spells.

hehe... an RPG huh? Then why do necromancers feel (in character) that in Uber fights they should sit and dump all thier mana into other people because a necromancer is useless for anything else?

If it's a RPG, then why does no one do the RP aspect? This is nothing more than a game. It's EverCamp for the 1st 55 levels, and EverRaid for the last 5. Don't be silly. :)

Strange how I have played a druid to level 30 in under 2 months with no tweaking and only 1 camp ever (Testament of Vanear). If you want it to be a camping game it will be, if you want it to be a role-playing game it will be. If you are too lazy to put anything into it, if you expect the game and the Gms to do everything for you, well, that is your problem. Go play AC.
RE: phat lewt
# Sep 06 2001 at 2:26 AM Rating: Default
1-30 is fine. When you get to 40, you are going to need equiptment or expect a CR every few hours. You need that HP/mana/AC/resist gear to be able to keep up. Now, by EverCamp I meant the fact that you move around camping things your entire f-ing game time. You are camping EC trying to buy something. Camping the goblins in High Keep, camping aviaks in Sro, the legde in OT, the birds in TD, the North wall in DL, and blah di blah.

Did I camp the GBS? no. I hung out at the ruins to stock up on some bone chips when some gnome came up and gave me one. :P

You have no idea who I am, what I'm talking about, or what EQ is about for a necro. Shut up and go play EverCamp.

I know there are a lot of you out there that think EQ is the "best game ever" so if you have that opinion and don't want to admit to its flaws just stop reading right now
I have to agree with hazor and i've never even played a necro, what was verant thinking when they made certain classes to be useless in the end game? Not everyone want s to be a cleric or a warrior so why are they the only ones TRULY usefull in the end? If you ask me the game is poorly designed (even though i admit to playing it) and needs a major overhaul that i trust wont get done with the release of luclin (We get new graphics!!! YAY! =P )Come on people, have you ever wondered why your ice and lightning spells all look like some form of fire when cast on a mob? That is the perfect example of the lazyness at verant. I've never programmed but is a pallete change SO hard to implement? As far as the class system its gone too far and the people at verant HAVE to have realized that thier game is unbalanced, they come up with these weak changes that only further the "watering down" of the supposedly different classes. I especially feel sorry for the Wizards out there. Hazor i applaud you for bieng one of the few who can play a game such as this and expect more from it and not just blindly pay for an inferior product......

Try being a rogue. No spells, you can't hit very hard either. Sure, you have backstab, which at 26th level I'm hitting for about 106 damage but let me ask this...how many mobs have you ever seen turn their backs on you and let you hit them a few times? If you're LUCKY you get one backstab in. Then it's stab stab stab in the front then RUN when you get hit hard cus' you don't get as good of armor as the other non casters (monks excluded) After about 15th level it's group or die for a rogue, end of story.

hmmmm... to the person that said how verant was lazy... the last comment you said made you sound like a low lvl wizzie yourself... or you would know that when it comes to getting into raids and soloing at the mid lvls the wizard has it made... argue if you will, its true... as to necros having it so ****** in the end game... well take wizzies for example they have it so ****** in the start to like the 30's... you know that time period where ever decent necro is saying wow this game is getting to easy... so that balances that out you wanna take an easy way out you get screwed over in the end games wanna work your *** off and perfect some group and soloing skills at teh price of dying many MANY times than you have it made in the end game... take your pick...

and as to the rogue... get your *** in a group the rogue is probably a worse soloer than a warrior is and if your in a good group than you will NEVER have the mob even look at you once... youll be staring up their *** the entire time...

Well about the loot...withing 2 hrs of fighting just around the ent to the warrens with the kobolds (lvl 20dru) i managed to lvl up once (almost twice) and managed to get 2 large bags full of stuff, including two of the forlorn totems. I also managed to pull in 15pp in that 2 hrs from money. Not bad in my opinion, ill difinately be here for ahwile. Dont know if this inspires anyone to go there, but its definitely a wonderful place to hunt.

Well, I ran all the way to stonebrunt from OOT last night. It took hours.... So I had little time to explore when I got there.

I killed 1 mob that was yellow to me (I'm 21) and got some $ a "Blood encrusted battle hammer"(2hb 17dmg39dly +6 str) and a 6 slot 10% weight reduction bag... Seems like good loot to me, but I'm just a Gnome... (Sigh)

P.S. I'm Iffy on the Damage of that hammer but the Delay and +6 str is correct.

This zone is HUGE with few and scattered wandering mobs that hits hard for their level.
The kobold camps can easily make trains though.
Mobs that flee run along paths where other mobs are moving along, so trains can be made in this way too.

Mobs here seems to have high resists to all types of magic. My level 47 Necro got multiple resists on many mobs that conned green to my level 35 partner.

The mobs can be from level 10 and all the way up to the named panda that is fixed at level 45.

The catmen people have a town in here at loc pos1300, neg600. Evil races seems to be KOS here as default. Good races are non-KOS.

When you enter the zone, then make a loc and write down the coords. You WILL need them at some time.
If you get into an unprepared fight, then make a loc too or you will spend all your cash on us necros. ;)

The trivial loot code thingy will prevent this zone from turning into another LOIO, eventhough the XP bonus seems to be around 25% at the moment.
This will be a druid hunting zone for the few named mobs.

What you said about evils being kos to the kitties is wrong, I am an iksar monk and they are only dubious to me, I dont know about good races, being that I play on SZ and am likely to kill them before asking them what the cats con to them

Verant Sillyness
# Aug 30 2001 at 5:49 PM Rating: Default
Does anybody else think is silly of Verant to put a zone for Level 20+ people to go to, that requires you to make your way through some pretty deadly mobs to get to. With LOIO you have to manuever your way past the Drachnids. Since this is an outdoor zone, it's not that difficult for me to do. To get to Stonebrunt, I have to make it past the throne room in the Warrens and the Bot Lord's cave. I made 3 attempts to do this, and 2 of them I was invisible. I got my but chewed every time. Maybe someone has a suggest ion how a Lvl 21 warrior can get through on his own.

You can get through the Warrens.

Tips.

Study Warrens map and pick your path. Choose carefully. I picked the quickest route, which, yes, puts you through room 11.

Find someone to cast SoW or buy a SoW potion. SoW has to be cast just outside warrens, since Druids can't cast it indoors.

Find someone with Invis (seems to be less buggy than camo) or the suggested potion. I suggest going through with a mage/wizzie type and a SoW a peice. He can keep you invis'd. Otherwise, use the potion.

At lvl 21, most of this dungeon shouldn't agro you. Things seemed thickest to me right at the beginning. All the other rooms, not camped, were rather light, and invis'd we were able to slip through easily.

Make a TRAIN to ZONE incl'd %t hot key for each zone JUST in case, and use it if you have to run.

A lvl 21 shouldn't have much trouble making it through here. You just might need a little help.

Will you people stop complaining about the loot here? The place was modeled to be like the Lake of Ill Omen; is there phat lewt there? Just a few ok items here and there right? So expect that here as well. I'd have to say that the loot is better here than LOIO; even if only the beginning of reports are in.

And it looks like there are two zone linkup spots for future expansion (one in the mountains, one in Kejek). So if 'phat lewt' would appear anywhere, it will be in the future zone, most likely...can't expect too much from an outdoor zone except experience.
Peacekeeper Faction
# Aug 30 2001 at 11:18 AM Rating: Default
Raising factions with the Peacekeepers, the Paladins and Clerics of Quellious, isn't too hard. Kill Heretics. There are a few wandering ones in Toxx forest, and one up on a large hill in Lavastorm, Hyrakallen (sp) I think is her name.
RE: Peacekeeper Faction
# Aug 30 2001 at 3:50 PM Rating: Default
Killing heretics will NOT raise faction with the Peacekeepers. It will only raise faction with the Deepwater Knights. The former are followers of Quellious, and are in the process of forming an alliance with the Stonebrunt kitties. Before the Warrens went live, there was no way to gain faction with them if you weren't already amiable.
The Deepwater Knights are the followers of Prexus, and faction with them tends to be more sensitive to actions regarding the heretics of Paineel.

gah~ I've spent the better part of my day today running around stonebrunt with 3 or 4 gorillas and a handful of tigers chasing after me. Its turbo easy to die in this zone >< it reminds me a lot of how loio was when i was at a lower level~ constantly getting jumped by mobs and barely making it out most of the time. The xp seems ok, but the loot isn't that great.. the most I've gotten is a chunk of meat and a plat. Perhaps I'm just not looking in the right places ._. those new monkey shoes are awesome though.. seem to be not that rare of a drop either.
Out of curiousity- does anybody know if theres a way to get your faction up with the cats? I'm an sk so they hate me >< i made the mistake of walking in there invis... a handful of the higher level ones see thru it. If anybody could help me that would be rad..
enjoy your new zone pls!

happy hunting~ vel
