Did anyone else find those little batlings under the false floor ?
RE: Fake Floor
# Nov 22 2001 at 9:44 AM Rating: Default
Yea, over by the Lorekeeper room, if you keep going, there is a false floor.

Over by the mugglewump, there are two other fake floors.. one leads you into the michevious batling caves, and the ohter will have you fall into the depths of it.

I was lvl 20 or 21 when i first fell in... i got chewed to pieces. they dont even give you a chance to try and get your bearings, you fall right into a terrible place to be, and as you run, you get slaughtered by Wizzy bats that strike you for hundreds.

Not a pretty sight. Be careful!

Missing from the list are the Kobold Fishermen. I was practicing swimming when I found them tucked in an alcove off the water you hit when you go left as you enter.

They were green & no XP to me at 12 and dropped fishing bait. I killed a few to see if one would drop a pole, but no such luck.

Did let me practice underwater combat, though.

Scratch that. They do drop poles. Killed two today and each had one.

Kill enough, and we Heretics can fish. Just wish there was a safer body of water.
SoW reminder and Warning

Quick reminder... while you can't cast SoW down here (it's a dungean not outdoors)... the MoB shamans are under no such restriction.

Do not be surprised if the prince, pack elders/leaders, king, and some other mobs suddenly get hit with SoW as your trying to run in a pull gone horribly wrong.

One last reminder. After two days here dealing with some of the ruddest newbies ever seen in EQ, i would like to remind everyone this is a dungeon. You need to expect trains. The level 20-25 mobs are often less then a 20 sec RL SoW run from the entrance. So if you choose to fight sub 12 stuff here you are accepting the risk, in return for the greater xp, that you will be hit by trains of 18+ level MoBs.

Get over it.

Do not complain.

Do not zone and scream like the person who dragged the train did it just to ***** up your level 7 day. Trust me, if 20+ folks want to ***** up your day, you'll know it cause in a zone like this had we done it deliberatly you wouldn't have gotten out alive. Given that we likely shouted 3-4 train warnings the fact you chose to not zone out in advance shows you obviosly didn't do your zone layout research, or you would have known your danger.

and if thats the case i'm glad i weeded you oughta the Eq gene pool before you cost 5 other people a gold of xp each in LOIO, or horrendous corpse runs at the bottom of Befallen... or god forbid the real high end game (only gotten to 40's myself)

If you want cold iron; don't worry about level. its not lore or magic so you can kill the king at level 60 and still have a chance of it dropping.

RE: 21
# Jul 31 2001 at 9:35 AM Rating: Decent
With a little bit of luck you should be able to make it in. There are no guards outside of Paineel, and the guards just inside the Paineel newbie area should be green to you. However, when I ran in with my lvl 22 Troll SK, I got jumped by Azzar Habbib. It happened so fast I'm not sure what happened, but he nuked me a few times and sent his pet after me, then feared me and it was about over. I haven't seen him since then, so I'm not sure where he hangs out...
RE: 21
# Aug 04 2001 at 3:52 PM Rating: Decent
As you go up the tunnel there's a door on the right, with stairs behind it. Azzar chills at the top of the stairs, so stay to the left going up the tunnel if you're KoS.

I'm a 32nd level Shaman. I was jumped by this guy when running through newbie zone on the way to help out a friend in the Warrens. I took him and his pet out but he got me to half health and oom. I have high magic resistance (70 when buffed) so he never did fear me which probably saved me.

RE: Need faction with High Guard on Erudin
# Aug 29 2001 at 10:52 AM Rating: Default
You'll find that faction here goes up rather quickly. I hunted here from 10 to 17 with some friends and being a hafling druid, at the end of that time I was actually able to bank in Paineel....It will take several levels, but it is very doable and relatively quick.
Missing NPCs
# Jul 26 2001 at 8:52 AM Rating: Default
A couple of NPCs not showing on the list here. one is the Mischevious Batlings... those little bastages are about levels 15 to 18, and cast spells that do upwards of 70pts of damage. There are about 20 or so all in the batlings caves, and when they aggro, you die quick.

Also, Krode the Diviner isn't listed. He's located in the Batlings cave area also, and holds the Diviner's Bowl, which is used in the Erudite Paladin quest for those Blueish Leggings (forgot their name). Not sure of his level, but you'd need a higher level player (at least level 32) to pull him safely out of the batling caves so a group around Krode's level can kill him without being killed by the Batlings.

And last one not on the list- there are Diseased Kobolds all around the area by the Muglwump. They can cause disease upon successful hits, and are probably around levels 15 to 18, they are blue to green at level 21. The will appear dead on the ground like a corpse until you get close enough to aggro them. They inhabit the area around the Muglwump with the Outcast Kobolds, and they swarm, there must be about 6 to 8 of them in the area.
RE: Missing NPCs
# Aug 20 2001 at 5:52 AM Rating: Decent
Also missing in the Warlord (Drolsch?) who drops cold iron pieces and the other random drops that all the higher level mobs here drop.
RE: Missing NPCs
# Aug 02 2001 at 9:02 AM Rating: Default
At least on Cazic, there are only 2 to 4 Diseased Kobolds up around Muglwump's pool at any given time. They agro anybody though, which can be annoying when Muglwump is even or blue to you, especially if solo.

(Then again, if Mugl is even to you the Outcasts will swarm with the Diseaseds and you'll get your butt handed to you if you try to visit the pool room.)

Okay, things that are cheesy:

1. being level 50 and farming in this zone anyway (wicker, bamboo splint, weird bronze weapons) just to spite Verant (but you end up spiting the little guys that need cash or items)

2. being level 50 and farming in this zone anyway (by zoning at the last moments of a battle and having your lower level friend loot and give you the loot) (see above)

3. coming through and killing everything, regardless of people that are getting XP, when you can go anywhere in the dungeon (and flex your muscles or get faction just as well in many parts of the place) (thereby ruining people's tricky setups of single pull opportunities)

4. taking a kill at the last minute off someone just because you can

All of this appears to be all the rage. It makes me sick. I almost wish more drastic measures would be taken, at the very least removing ALL drops on no XP mobs (not just rare or magic drops.) Don't know how to get around the zone-at-the-last-minute loot rules cheat, but kinda hope Verant does. There are currently many, many other zones that support farming, and this is the only one that theoretically doesn't. I wish farming actually didn't happen here.

Oh but by the way this is the best low level zone in the game, absolutely wonderful. Well done Verant, well done. More zones like this one, please.

Realax and take a deep breath.
Twice while waiting for a Hole raid I have taken my 51 warrior into the Warrens to look around.
Guess what, no one was there. In order to do the Warrens, you need a group, but most Erodites leave the area as soon as there level allows and the zone is too far away for most people to travel to in order to find a pickup group. I truly dought that most high level players go into Warrens to make your life miserable.

I love hunting here with my Inkie necro, for a couple reasons. first off, the xp is good for the level range, if you can manage to find blues and whites without getting zerg rushed. the second reason is that i almost invariably have the place to myself, which is pretty cool, since i usually try to solo. its like no one has heard of it, or wants to bother with the optional patch.

it is lvl 1 b/c i sat next to it so it would auto max and it hit me for a uber 4 points of damage, resisted my drains(in melee range of it) at lvl 52, after that i sort of decided me being in water wasnt going to help so i didnt see damage that was being done to it...but 50 war, 52 ran, 45 bard, and my pet played with it for 45 or 50 min....dropped it to i'd say in the area of 3/4 hp(pet hat 55% haste, others had alac or celer on from our chanter)....so it CAN be killed....but with that many hp and probably uber regen i doubt it was designed to be
river source
# Aug 18 2001 at 11:58 AM Rating: Decent
Out of curiosity, I had my lvl 53 air pet attack this thing. I summoned a water stone and sat down in the corner to watch, standing up periodically to refresh my pet's damage shield.

This went on for about 30 minutes, with minimal damage to the river source (maybe a bubble). At that point, when I tried to refresh my pet's damage shield, I was told that I couldn't see my target. I looked around, and sure enough, neither my pet or the river source were in the water. I swam out of the water, and was amazed at what I saw next. There, against the wall several paces from the water, was the river source, being attacked by my pet and a handful of kobolds, including Prince Bragnar!

The prince disappeared after five or ten minutes (I wasn't paying attention, but I went and found him sitting in his usual spot). However, the other kobolds kept attacking the river source. An hour after I started the assault, I left it in the hands of the kobolds.

I checked on them more than two hours later (over three hours total), and the river source had gone back into the water, but there were STILL a few kobolds attacking it.

Too funny...

I don't mean to add more whining... but here's my dilemma, as i get around to doing my guild quests at level 36 It get's difficult to finish then when they require loot from the warrens. At the time being i have no clue how i'm supposed to get the loot i need from the mobs i gotta kill in the warrens =(. If i kill em myself i dont get the loot... overcamping isnt the problem, the problem is that no one in zone is even killing these lousy things and having the loot rot... nobody is even in the zone so i have no options really other than to get some level 20 warrior or whatever to come kill the things for me =(.
RE: Loot rules...
# Oct 01 2001 at 11:11 AM Rating: Default
They changed to TLC (Trivial Loot Code) so that quest items are not excluded if you are too high level to get XP from the mob. In short, if the item is used in a quest anyone can kill the mob and get the loot.

In case your still having this problem, that is about your only option unfortunately. Guild mates are great for things like this. A couple of character in their high teens will be able to help you and will greatly benefit from the cash and experience that they can get while they are not killing the specific kobolds you may need. Or if you have an alternate of the appropriate level you can do that yourself. Their is a small chance that someone may loot while you switch out characters but given how underused this zone that is a minimal risk

i have to deeply disagree with all the bashing of this zone, i dont know what you guys were smoking when you were here, but with my erudite necro i lvl'd here from 5-12 and did it in 5 days, playing about 3 or 4 hours a night.not only that but i made about 200pp just hanging by the entrance and pulling rabbid kobolds to there.i solo'd easy, and grouped with an sk and necro same lvl and we tore up the place. im now lvl 15 and returned because of the loot and easy xp i can gain. plus the prince spawns every 10-15 mins or so, i hunted with a 28 bard friend who was after quest items.IMO this place rocks.

I am sick of the few high-levels whining about the loot rules. I only wish the same for runnyeye. Ever since it was changed, 50+ peeps have been there constantly, taking all the good 500+ loot. I was hoping the would do the same there as the warrens but no luck. When I was lvl 16 and the warrens opened up, I hiked it over to Odus (I don't believe in TP's, why pay money to miss the scenery and stop to fish in the Karanas, you can get from Ak'anon to Erudin in an hour if you have SoW and the boats are with you). When I got there there were only about ten ppl in the zone, and there was a group of four my level so i joined them. Many barbarians and Humans have expirmented hunting there and like it, finding a group isn't as hard as you all make it out to be. The exp is great, so is the loot. There is no downside for anyone under 25, and for anyone over 25 you wont get much exp here so just go away and let the little people get there share of the loot.

If you kill a mob for which you do not gain xp then it will not drop anything that is magic or lore or no drop. It will drop normal items such as bronze weapons, wicker and burlap armor, lots of booze, rations and kobold meat. Thats it. This is specifically designed to keep high levels(like your 55 mage) from farming equipment and taking spawns from younger adventurers.

Bout that River Source kill...
# Jun 27 2001 at 4:13 PM Rating: Default
...We will NEVER find out what it has because thanks to the loot rules, it has to be killed when it's still blue. Haven't been there myself (too high level) but if it has any kind of attack, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, a group (maybe a truly MASSIVE group) can kill it, no matter how many healers you bring, no matter how twinked the players...

And of course, there's always the possibility that whatever it has is not a common drop <shudder>

Best Place Yet
# Jun 24 2001 at 11:38 AM Rating: Good
Hey I just wanted to add my 2cp about how the warrens are the best place for any char level 15-20. Being a ranger from surfall I spent most of my time hunting in bb and it wasn't too bad though the leveling was slow and only made a few plat an hour. Then I happend to stumble across the warrens at level 16 and found that it was empty except for me. After a few minutes a lvl 17 bard showed up and we grouped by the prince. He would reduce there agro and then we could for the most part pull one at a time. Then about an hour later a 16 level SK showed up and stregthed our group. To keep the story short in 2 days of minimal playing we have all risen 2 to 3 levels and I have made 90 plat. So any of you who say that the warrens suck or is 2 hard to play with out a huge group i disagree. So good team work and the right people and we have gainded and ton of exp and loot. I would recomend this place to anyone higher then level 10.
P.s. As a side note though everyone was correct in saying you almost have to have a group, there are very few npc I can solo alone at lvl 18 and still get exp as it seams any thing that cons higher than green to you seems to always be in groups!

Loot rules are good
# Jun 15 2001 at 4:43 PM Rating: Default
The loot rules are good in the warrens. It prevents the farming done by high lvls (unrest, druids, DWBs) in relatively lowbie zones, but I have to agree. Way too many mobs. It is IMPOSSIBLE to single pull a mob in this zone, because its tight and the mobs are pressed so close together. In one of the larger rooms, I saw at least 12 kobolds. The king HTs for 281 dmg witch according to the spell and lvl would make him lvl 28. The prince only HTs for about 161 ,making him lvl 16. And if you want a good laugh, go see the muglwump :)

The thing i find irritating is that there is a naginata graphic for the bronze naginatas that drop off random kobolds, which in fact looks like (who would have guessed?) a NAGINATA. and yet, the magic naginata dropped by the king uses a standard halberd graphic.

After the last patch I noticed a new wounded kajeekan in the jail and a captured erudite next to him. Kiling the captured erudite (named but i forget what) gives faction hit to deepwater etc, and good faction to heretics.

Killing the other erudites and kajekans does not give any faction hits or penalities last time i did it before the patch.
