The Great Divide is a mountain range home to many types of creatures - kodiaks, a nest of crystalline wurms, and the Tizmak Clan to name a few. Also here are a large Kromrif outpost, the city of Thurgadin, the tunnel entrance to Velketor's Labyrinth, and a tiny portal to Bristlebane's Plane of Mischief.

At n3927 n564 p795 is a 'gnomish deserter' sitting in the snow, his hand frozen to a metal box. He babbles at you if you hail him, and responds to the following phrases:

Why is your hand stuck?
What decision?
Here?
Box?

He wants you to free his hand, somehow (Here? will get you that info), but if you say 'Box?' he denies he has a box. Not sure where this goes...

I don't see him listed above or anywhere in the Bestiary, could anyone tell me where I might find Scout Master Hemlock? In the Great Divide. If I find him will get a picture and info on him, but till then I have no clue where he is.

Edit: Ok found him in the middle of zone at location: -4670, 629, -166.

He was surrounded by scouts and con'd green to a 46 pally. He casts a spell when you try to run from him, which when casts says,
Scout Master Hemlock says, "You will not evade me Aunory!"
You have been summoned

He hits for 1-32 damage, average was about 8-22. The scout hit harder than he did.
Sending a picture also, this guy is for the Frostbeard's Lesser Minions quest given by M.C. Tinkerton in POK by the Great Divide stone.

Solo for faction?
# Sep 07 2005 at 9:50 PM Rating: Decent
Would a lvl 43 Human Monk be able to solo here for faction? I need to get my Kromzek to ally for the Omens monk Kael armor quests and all the other zones good for Kromzek faction are way beyond my reach. I am equipped with an endless supply of Elixir of Healing V. How would I do?
RE: Solo for faction?
# Sep 27 2005 at 10:00 PM Rating: Decent
Hell yeah. As long as you don't tack the Frost Giant 'Zerks too much, you should do fine. Take one or even two scouts on if you feel comfy. Once you hit LVL 47 go after the names. As a LVL20 Druid I stuck around healing random people for Coldain and Veeshan faction a lot, and went from glowering to amiable with 100-120 named kills only.

HAIL!

Below is an account of my experience hunting Ancients/Elders in their caves on the Thurdagin side. A total of 115 Wurms were killed and the loot per kill is recorded below. I've included stats on items dropped and the appropriate quest reward for no-drop quest items.

I started this killin fresh into level 39 and with 115 Wurm kills under my belt I will say that these guys are a brute to bring down. However, in that span of time I reached 40! Fortunately as a cleric it was easy to find a partner and one that ensnares is perfect for these beasts (Druid/Ranger w/Ensnare, Necro/SK w/Dooming Darkness or any other class that can slow the movement of the creature).

The pull strategy that appeared to work best is to go in and ensnare one, then let it come fully out of the cave to avoid Elder wanderers who will venture just outside tunnel and turn around in front of the entrance and go back in. Once out of the wanderers agro range, the next step is to fear it and nuke or beat on it. They are so huge you can still hit them from a nice distance. Ensnare/Fear/Kill worked 115 of 118 times, the other three where link deaths otherwise it would have been 118/118.

Doing this 115 times successfully however, resulted in a whole lot of loot. A couple notes though, 66 of the 115 had no loot, so don't get discouraged if you kill 5 in a row and get nothing. It made getting loot feel like you were getting something for your work. Though a detailed accout is listed below here is the general summary. Items included as loot but not included in summary below: Words/Runes, Wurm Meat and gems/jewelry. In every case the Wurm dropped an average of 3-6pp. The highest I've seen is 8pp and some gold.

115 Kills

66 No Loot
9 LVL 44 Spells of various classes
8 no drop fangs
6 no drop claws
5 glowing wurm biles
5 shardwurm stingers
4 white scaled tunics
1 shardwurm skin

Note- The spell drops were from Ancients only (not sure if Elders drop them if so must be ultra rare) and they are the level 44 NPC Drop only Velious Spells. The level 50 NPC spell drops are off the Crystal Wurms, deeper inside.

3. Elder Words/Wurm Meat
4. Ancient No Loot
5. Elder Shardwurm Claw (no drop)

Note- Turn in 4 Shardwurm Claws to a Miner in Thurdagin Mines for a Coldain Miner Pick. Caution, this weapon is No Drop and for small races only

7. Elder Glowing Wurm Bile (no drop)

Note- The glowing Wurm Bile is an uncommon drop and used in the 5th Shawl Quest. You need five total and can actually see the Wurms who have it. They are brighter than the other ones and to know for sure, observe the cave walls, if light is reflecting off the wall, it has a glowing bile. This is why I came here in the first place, 1 bile down 4 to go.

8. Elder No Loot
9. Ancient Shardwurm Skin

Note- The Shardwurm Skin is nice Lowbie caster gear (an upgrade from Najena's Flowing Black Robe). The interesting thing about this item is that when worn by a caster they look more like a monk or druid. On a Gnome, it looks like a little black leather jacket (a mini fonzie).

There are 7 mobs associated with part of the Coldain Ring Quest #9 that reside in a cave just north of the Velk's Lab zone in GD. These mobs are all dark blue to a level 61.

Davin Fatfist
Herga Ratgur
Murdrick Tardok
Lapker Geynion
Gerton Dumkin
Laima Ratgur
Fomgrut Borkel

These mobs all appear to be coldain dwarves. The first 5 listed are considered traitors and not on Coldain faction. They stand in a semi-circle with Murdrick further back in the room. Not sure about the last 2 mob's factionon the list. They stand on either side of the entrance to the cave room where Murdrick stands.

Murdrick's head and plans are what drop when you kill Murdrick and are used in the multi-part quest.

Didn't see any of these mobs listed here yet. These mobs are a key part of the Coldain Ring quest #9.

At level 26 with a good group you might be able to hunt the tizmaks, they are level 27-30 mobs in a series of caves. Dunno how well you would do, and downtime would likely make it not worth the effort.

Go to Marus Seru, grind out to level 33 or 34, then come back to GD with a couple of friends and start killing the wolves and frost giant scouts.

A 26 Warrior should not be in The Great Divide. You will die very fast and if in a group you will cause lots of adds. Haven't played a warrior so I am not 100 percent sure which zone you should be in, Dawnshroud Peaks maybe?, but I do know that your level is way too low for this zone.

Not to my knowledge. You can typically sell the heads and toes to people doing the quest for a small amount of platinum.

If you need faction (not xp or pp), go ahead and do the first and second shawl quests over and over and throw the shawls away. Those 2 are easy, all you need is toes and heads from the frost giants. Someone said this before me, I'm just relaying the post I read gods know how long ago.

Besides, in case you didn't know it, the Preservationist's Box that you are given for the 2nd quest makes an excellent and free 10 slot, giant capacity bank box.

# Dec 04 2002 at 9:26 AM Rating: Decent
I logged into Thurgadin and then zoned in to The Great Divide and lots of Royal Archers and lots of Royal Soldiers and about 88 people in the zone. I sent out a tell asking whats going on and lots of people said a Ring War. Right after that someone shouted attack and a lot of tells on fighting followed. I never got the details on what a Ring War is. What is a Ring War?
RE: On the MT server they had a Ring War last night
# Dec 08 2002 at 7:03 PM Rating: Decent
The ring war is the 10th quest in the coldain ring series. Upon getting the quest, or triggering it with something, not sure. "War" NPCs spawn in GD, these include royal archers, soldiers, etc. on the coldain's side, and a ton of high lvl frost giants, which come in waves and you have to stop them from getting to Thurgadin. And you have to kill one very very tough fg, forget name, and give his head to the dain, to get the uber ring. If you lose, then the giants go ransacking and illing in thurg, ok, just everything despawns and things like murdered merchants, gored guards, bludgeoned bankers, conquered coldains, etc. spawn in their places. they stay up for a couple hours, then it resets. and the war can be started again. Not a very pretty sight if you lose the war...
