This is a stretch of frozen land which covers the northeastern part of Velious. In the east, a large ice bridge connects to the islands of Iceclad Ocean while in the northwest, a break in the mountains leads to the Great Divide. Kael Drakkel, the city of giants, sits in the southwest while a dragonhead portal to Sleeper's Tomb sits in the south.

Many factions have taken up residence here. There is a frost giant fort and a few Coldain outposts. As well, the Ry`Gorr orc clan is well-established here with a large fort (which also houses the entrance to the Crystal Caverns) and a few outlying camps. These are in addition to the area's wildlife: From the benign rhinos, mammoths, and snow bunnies to the highly aggressive griffins, manticores, and cougars; you'd best watch over your shoulder while hunting here.

Break invis, and move up and down the valley near the arch headed to kael.
Some will pop for you.

I think there were others that charged you when you try to help that fallen dwarf as well, but been a while. Might ahve been a different mob type.

Information on Velium Weapons
# Aug 15 2006 at 2:37 PM Rating: Decent
I have read many of the postings here about Velium weapons pro and con and let me set the record straight for what people may and may now know

1. Velium weapons DO NOT melt when they leave velious. Whoever started that rumor ought to be tossed off of a cliff I suggest a very high one where a GM cannot recover them.

2. Velium weapon DO proc outside of the realm of velious. My Level 33 Paladin carrys a 2H Velium Sword and not only does it proc outside of Velious, but it hits very hard around 30-50 each time it procs which may not be the best but for an up and comming Palaidn of my years it is sufficient until I seek out a better weapon.

Perhaps there 2 rumors were started to keep people away from Velious I dunno, but I wanted to set the record straight for those of us wishing to seek out some other weapons for ourselves.

The Fabled Snow Bunny!

Yes, you heard me right... and what could the fabled snow bunny drop you might ask?

None other than:

Fabled Snow Bunny Hat

I was passing through EW looking for the last piece I was missing for the Coldain collect quest: the snow bunny foot.(I admit that I did the quest, but mainly because I have done it every year it was offered) Well, there were no bunnies anywhere to be found. I was getting a tad bit frustrated when I rolled over the next snow-bank and... there he was. His beadie little eyes and pink, wigglie nose marked him for the killer he was. I froze in panic (really I was waiting for a DT or something knowing SoE). Thankfully, Furball caught up to me at that point and threw himself between me and the fluffie, white ball of death. The snow was covered in blood and rabbit tracks... He dropped both the hat and the foot I was looking for. I was hoping the hat would have pink bunny ears :-( Anyhow, my vote for fabled of the year goes to this little guy!

Spent some time here and went from lvl 40-50 fairly quickly. Started out charming rhinos, mammoths and snow griffons, moved on to quadding walruses and ulthorks, then man-o-wars. Also killed frost giants for faction for CS (where I went next), worked on shawl quests, and made lots of plat foraging tufts of dire wolf fur. Easy soloing for druids. Most of the time I was the only one in the zone. Great place!

Heard that Rangers could fearkite easily out here in EW, so I ran through Iceclad and tried my luck. Things were going great. Couldn't find any whites or yellows, so I was running around looking for blues to play with when I stumble across this dwarf laying in the snow.

Naturally, I hail him.
He says he needs my help.
I offer my help.
He says he hears them coming and falls to the ground.

I look around, I don't see anyone. What was he talking about? I hit track and see several new Frost Giants in the zone.

Before I can move, I get hit from behind... hard!! I start running for the bridge. I get maybe 2 steps and fall to the snow, dead.

Guess I should've read up on 'ol Tain before offering to help. =)

I was leaving Kael when i was "ambushed by Frost giants". When I turned around there were 2 Kromrif Death Squad". They were DB to lvl 54. I'm guessing these were spawned from some quest since I hunt here alot and have never seen them.

Any info would be greatly appreicated.

The kromrif death squad spawn is part of the 4th shawl quest. You're supposed to wander around the Kael ramp trying to get Tanik Greskill to spawn by walking over him. But you can also spawn the death squad.

If you're wondering about the Kromrif Elite, lemme share a story.

57 ranger. Figure I hate giants, they looked like they were up to no good. HoN one. No problem. Snare the other... resisted, both came at me. I run my butt off, try to snare, etc. doesn't stick. Pull them to a coldain camp, one of them gets taken off of me by the coldain.

Hey, I'm epic / ornate, figure maybe I can whack one. nope. They hit hard, and are very MR. snare finally stuck, but that worked against me, because I then found out that these jokers SUMMON. yep, I didn't see that one comming. Managed to pull the second one to garadain's camp, where I proceded to continually heal myself while the dwarves beat on it... but they couldn't steal aggro from me, and I bit it hard.

Bottom line?

Kromrif Elite, High HP, Hit hard, SUMMON, very MR. Stay away from these shmucks unless you've got a force or a death wish.

All the little Snow bunnies now seem to be Frost Bunnies dropping Frost Bunny meat instead of the Snow Bunny meat needed for the 3rd Shawl.

I have yet to find if there are still Snow Bunnies but rarer or if they have been totally eradicated by Myxamafrosties.

You say, 'great purification'

Ulthork Raider is a DRU epic 1.5 mob (sorry forgot to put Ulthork in Subject and can't change now). He spawns with 2 man-o-wars in southwest corner of EW (near Icefang) whenever a DRU with waterproof container zones into EW.

He occasionally drops a Carved Prexus Totem, which is turned in to new Othmir in CS. See Druids Grove epic walk thru for details.

Well I might have a guess. I was killing walrus trying to get ulthorks to spawn today working on my 3rd Prayer Shawl when I see an Ulthork spawn. Yeah! I click on him (I had looked up info on levels and such here first) He's RED to me at level 55 and he's named Ulthork Raider. Don't remember if there was an an in front of it or not. Almost instantly after he spawned one then another ulthork MoW spawned, but these were also RED. I tabbed over to look him up when I saw that he wasn't listed. I tabbed back to EQ, but didn't think to take a snapshot. Oh... the two that spawned after him were near him and walked straight towards him. Then all three started walking in a northeasterly direction together.

You are correct about all those ulthorks spawning. Maybe I was wrong about the Death Squad connection. I did not notice an Ulthork Raider, but I did see several Ulthork Men o'Wars.

Here is what he said to me when he attacked:

[Sun Sep 19 15:08:22 2004] raider spawner says 'Have you learned nothing from the cave dwellers? This assault will prove fruitless!'

When he had killed me:
[Sun Sep 19 15:11:39 2004] raider spawner says 'Foolish one, you are no match for the might of the Storms of Srerendi!'

I found out the hard way that it sees through invis. =/

I don't think this has anything to do with the death squad, though. When he attacks, he says something about warning all the cave dwellers, or something. Possibly related to OOW, maybe one of the new epic quests. I'm pretty sure he could be done with a solid group of higher levels (60+?).

Spawns on top of a hill, it's the middle of 3 hills, there are two sets, he's at the set furthest west. (pretty sure that's right, I was running for my life at the time)

Kited him for a while. He was camping someone else's corpse at his spawn point, approx -7200, 4400. At least he went back there several times when I had zoned. Was dark blue and KOS to me, 65 Bard. Sees invis, has no model. Tracked to him and could target him and see his name. He gave chase when chanted DoTs at him. He resisted Frost once about like giants do. Cannot be mezzed by Lullaby of Morell.

He summons and killed me when he finally got a triple hit in for 298, 787, 624. Had hit me before for 624 and 820. Tanik Greskil was not up on any of these occasions. Maybe the raider spawner is what is supposed to spawn the Death Squad when stepped on and is trackable and targetable where it wasn't before. I think something is broken.

There is a creature called "The Raider Spawner" It was yellow to a 62 Ranger. We've been out there many times hunting for the prayer shawl meats and never seen this thing on track before. Aye. Same here. Attacked out of no where. Didn't see it. When I switched camera views, still couldn't see it. Don't know if it is real small, invisible or white to match the snow. Red to level 61. Took out my pet and me with just a couple of hits and I was buffed up with F07, HoV, etc. I guess it is no longer safe to hunt and roam freely in EW. All I wanted was four little snow griffon eggs.. hehe

Surprised that the Kromrif Elite at the fort near GD are not listed ... 4 to 10 of them in the room with the named Giant ... they are all level 51. Also, there is Peffin Ambersnow, a named dwarf in with the named Giant and the Elites and when you hail her, she seems surprised and that they were going to Torture her and that you saved her but nothing I said would get her to say anything else or to move etc... what is she for?

Death Squads?
# Aug 07 2003 at 6:27 AM Rating: Decent
Last night near the entrance to KD at the end of the cliff entrance part I was killed by 4 "A Kromrif Death Squad" they were either inviz or spawned right on me, all 4 at once, and killed me in no time. My partner never saw them and the area is pretty open, nothing can sneak up without you seeing. They werent the regular guards to KD, them guards were still there. I was bound to POK so made it back in less than 5 minutes. I checked tracking and the Death Squad giants were nowhere to be found, they mustve either went inviz again or despawned. Anyone have anymore info on this mob? They arent in the list above. They really put a damper on the night. Lost my level too. I WANT REVENGE! lol
RE: Death Squads?
# Aug 09 2003 at 10:56 AM Rating: Decent
The Kromrif Death Squad are a triggered spawn for part of the coldain prayer shawl series of quests. In the area around Kael, there are tiny invisible spawn triggers, most spawn the Death Squad. One spawns a named dwarf to whom you have to turn in something to get something else, all for the 4th shawl in the series.

The Death Squad is high 50s iirc and despawns after about 60-90 seconds of not having aggro on anything.

They are fun to kill, tho =)

Good luck with the revenge...but imo it's not worth the trouble.

They were light blue at 61, so probably high 40s; hit for a hundred and change, AFAIR. You may be thinking of the giants from the 8th shawl crawl, who were all still dark blue at 61.

Closest place to bind for a caster would be the Iceclad Bridge, and for a melee would either be the Iceclad Docks or the entrance to Kael Drakkal...I think you can bind in Kael anyway.
