This is a stretch of frozen land which covers the northeastern part of Velious. In the east, a large ice bridge connects to the islands of Iceclad Ocean while in the northwest, a break in the mountains leads to the Great Divide. Kael Drakkel, the city of giants, sits in the southwest while a dragonhead portal to Sleeper's Tomb sits in the south.

Many factions have taken up residence here. There is a frost giant fort and a few Coldain outposts. As well, the Ry`Gorr orc clan is well-established here with a large fort (which also houses the entrance to the Crystal Caverns) and a few outlying camps. These are in addition to the area's wildlife: From the benign rhinos, mammoths, and snow bunnies to the highly aggressive griffins, manticores, and cougars; you'd best watch over your shoulder while hunting here.

a little of what ive learned

Hail well here it goes,

I have hunted the following areas of EW,

1. NORTH SHORE: Uthlok warriors, hunters and walrus's. Good hunt, easy to pull singly. the only problem I encountered is the pathing of warriors and hunters at times they will come directly up from the cliff most groups sit at to med and heal this can be a problem when your hurt or already in the middle of a fight. The warriors hit hard think around 80's if i recall right. They drop uthlok hide armour + int and wis items, though i havent had much luck selling any of it.

2. RY'GORR ORC KEEP: a.k.a. entrance to CC
Ry'Gorrs remind me alot of pickclaws but they hit harder their fast and it seemed to me their aggro radius is fairly large. pulling from the front gate wasnt that difficult and was fairly easy to control. If ya get a bad pull the closest zone is CC run into the gate of the keep take a right follow wall youll see a stone building against it with a wraught iron gate open it and click on the snowball...presto u zone when u enter CC turn around andlook on the wall their is a icey patch on the wall just walk into it to zone back to EW. note the one time we had to do this we gated out so im not sure how long the Ry Gorr orcs will hang around the snowball house return on your own accord!

3. The Bridge; My favorite we pulled from the end of the EW side bridge, Tundra Kodiaks, snow cougars, dire wolves, tundra mammoths, wooly mammoths, snow griffins and even 1 wooly rhino. 2 pallys and 2 druids 35 to 37. We never seemed to run out of things to pull, xp seemed very good from the mammoths if ya get in trouble just zone! Rest, Med and pull fairly high up on the bridge pathing for the mobs actually walks them over the snowy covered area at the base of the bridge we sat down so you can see both sides of the bridge span. Loot wasnt that great but the xp was fair to high (of course im stuck at 35 and killing for 5 hours only gives me half a bub atm..hehe)

Well not as detailed as most of you are looking for but its a start if your going to hunt here!!!

Half a bub at 35? My friend, you need to sit yourself down at Balix (Iceclad) and just bash snow kitties. Now as much XP per MOB, but 3 of us (2 35s and a 36) can pull them pretty much constantly. There are so many snow cougars, even 2 groups can pull them with virtually NO downtime (with a cleric). It's like a newbie zone for 30somethings! I went from 34-35 in 6 hours, and I just started on 35, but a half bub took an hour. One of my fellow kitty-killers is a pally, and he is slower of course, but still doing much better than .5 bub in 5 hours. Plus, you get the occasional claw earring, and if yer up to it you can do the Garou Club Quest (all the mobs for the quest are right there, and Balix is the quest NPC).

Just tell the druid to lay off the wolf form. Balix, he don't like that. :)

But yeah, its very good exp at 35. As far as the Garou club quest goes, though, you'll probably see Midnight if you hang around there long enough, but the Garou is a pretty rare spawn. Possibly timed, I'm not sure. He's also *nasty,* killed my 37th level Druid in about 20 seconds, and this was after he ate a Ranger of a similar level with a lower level Druid backup, and was down to about a bubble of health. He also gates when low on HP (if he didn't, I think the Ranger would have gotten him.) Be really careful of that mob.

following the quest dire wolf cloack thread will list 5 or 6 locs that they were found at. I plotted them and went last night looking for about 2 hours (unfortunatly we only found 2 and needed 4. If you plot them out on the map of EW they seem to to be mostly just to the west of the dragon/orb statue. The two we found were just west of the statue and and seemed to be located around the frost giant and manticore paths in that area. Hope this helps!

Has anyone found the key to unlock this?
its a doorway or teleport to somewhere. i tried and it says its locked and i dont have the key. I think this is a new doorway recently put in because i never saw it when i got there when velius started.

Could it be the fabled entrance to the plane of mischief?

most likely the zonepoint to the "sleeper" dungeon. I'm going to walk around in thurgadin to see if anyone has any new quests, perhaps for the key.

Like frontier mountains
# Dec 18 2000 at 12:09 AM Rating: Default
I haven't been here yet, but looking at the map and mobs, this zone is extremely similar to Frontier mountains in Kunark. In frontier mountains it is a wide open zone where giants wonder and have a camp, along with a mining camp of burnyai, if u go deep enough, there is a zone in the mines. I'm just wondering if someone who has been to easter wastes agrees.

Yes it is similar to FM btu the major diferance is that there are "SAFE" area where ya can pull too unlike in FM where ya have to pull to either right outside the fort or to a zone valley for semi safty of not haveing a MOB walk over you. and the XP here is a bit better than in FM also.. any way laters

Its ALOT like fm, only mobs are harder
fm is for 28-33
EW is for 35-45

I have hunted in this zone for the past couple weeks along with exploring some other zones. Will tell ya the best xp I have ran into so far for the damage to exp are the Ulthork hunters (around 34)and warriors (around 36) as a shammy would get my pet pull with my slow spell then as I ran away would hit them with VoS then as they got near to where my dog is hit them with my Breath. Those 2 spells plus my mellee and my pet which was quicked make short work of the Hunters about (1200 hps) and will have to reaply one of my dots to finish the warriors (1750 hps) or hit them with our new poison dot. They seam to have a low rez to Poison. When they started to run would sit down and med so by time the dog finished them off would be ready or about ready to pull agian. Taking a pretty easy and lax huting I would gain about a bub of xp in 2 hrs or so. I have seen dr00ds kiteing 2 to 4 mobs at once hehe then he would have to sit and regain all his mana. oh and so ya know warlus' agro you and they have the same faction as the Ulthork. The giants are nasty they have a tendacy to res root and if ya get it to stick they have some thing like 2500 hps or so, plus they hit hard and fast even with my slow spell tossed on them. The orcs are soloable easly they have low hps and only hit in the low 50's, the griffs here cast druid spells as in root and druid DoTs not sure if they cast DDs only killed a couple with a group so not sure on how many hps. The snow dervs hit hard and fast mid 60's with nast double and tripple attacks. but they also have low hps and move slow I can med kite them being a shammy. The kodies hit hard and fast like everything else hehe.. also would say 1500 to 2000 hps or so never root kited one so not sure exactly. I am sure I have missed some mobs... but I would say if you can kite and there is lots of room to do it this is a good zone from 32 or 34 up in a group would wait till later 30's to get the good xp and be sure to have a good cleric or a shammy who can slow the mobs cause they hit hard and fast :P any way thats my 2cp take how ya want to

As a 40th shaman I hunted right at the base of the bridge, with and without a pet. Most of the wildlife is easy kills and safe 'cause the zone is close. Here are the problems I had: The Mammoths are great but the tundra have 2x the hps of the whooly and aren't that much higher level. The rhinos also have a ton of hps and aren't worth the effort to solo. Stay away from the griffs unless in a group( and one of the warriors in my group aws using pumice to take down that damn DS). Good luck.
P.S. Does anyone know what the tusks are for? They are worthless to the vendors. thanks

The tusks are for a wonderful quest which rewards you with expensive and even rare gems like diamonds and jacinths (presumably if your faction is high enough).

Unfortunately, it's in Cobalt Scar. Do you have your key yet? =(

Well I started hunting at the bridge but like you found that most the mobs that are right there are tuff if you move around to the right along the shore away around loc 650 n2100 or so you will find the Ulthork they are the best xp for the risk as a shammy using VoS and our new DD or even the old cold based one and a pet they drop pretty quick aginst the warriors you will need to nuke it 2 times or reaply VoS when it runs out.. jsut pull with the slow spell and will be good.... oh and Rhinos have about 1800 to 2100 hps or so....

any ways laters :P

Around level 40 to 41 i was having some fun charming a Rhino and wreaking havoc on everything in sight...too out 2 ulthork hunters a warrior and a walrus before my pet turned and i had to recharm to get the xp of the warrior. That was the best case scenario..usually the charm only lasted through 2 mobs and i'd have to root em both and recharm.

not sure about the quest it is used for but a Rouge has been doing it on Tunare for the past week or more it is very long quest and takes several high lvl peps to do or that is what he says and way hope that helps...
Anyone solve this quest?
# Dec 10 2000 at 9:35 AM Rating: Decent
A Coldain Dwarf by the name of Garadain Glacierbane (loc n2600, n400) gives out a quest where he requests you to sew a blanket for him. He said that the blanket was made out of the finest tundra kodiak skin, and some white panther or something, anyway has anyone heard of a tailored blanket, or woiuld you just give him the pelts?
RE: Anyone solve this quest?
# Dec 13 2000 at 1:48 AM Rating: Default
Yes,
you need to combine in a sewing kit 2 HQ kodiak skins and 2 HQ cougar skins.

I've heard that the blanket is no drop so whoever wants to complete it has to be good at tailoring.
