Iceclad Ocean is where you'll find the Icy Fingers -- a chain of small iceberg islands, along with a massive ocean which separate the continent of Velious from the other continents of Norrath.

This area is home to a group of Gnome explorers from Ak'Anon; Tserrina's magnificent Tower of Frozen Shadow; a small representation of the Kromrif frost giants of Kael; and the Snowfangs, a clan of gnolls in constant battle with the turtles of the ocean, Lodizal and Coruduth.

I ran into him at level 35 and he conned blue but based on HP and resists I think he was 33/34. My roots would stick 50% of the time but only for a tick or too. At this level I think the best method is to DOT kite him. Drones of Doom stuck every time. Immolation stuck 1 in 3. Combust (fire based) worked 100%.

No faction hits at all.

I found him near the iceberg crossing on the druid ring island.

He dropped 4.9 plat and runes of concussion

Saw him today near the druid ring in Iceclad, conned yellow to a lvl 34 druid. Figured what the hell I'll try to kite him. Got ensnare on the second time, Drones of Doom on the first time, roots wouldn't stick, so I ran him around for a while. Tried to Combust twice, hit for 71 and then 20. At this point Drones wore off, I had used 2 bubs of mana and he had only lost about 1/10 of his HP if not less... so I gated =P

P.S. He was not holding any kind of weapon, and did not see though camo.

Well I engaged this guy in battle and had him down to half a bubble of helth, but you know verent and there bugs. Seems all mobs on ocean islands will blink away in times of near death. I deid 5 times in OOT that way and a GM even admited it was a bug but did i get a res NOOO. Even the HG in Rathe Mnts do that cowardy stunt.
He was no where on track at all. Well I wasnt a bout to sit there and be a victem of another anoying bug death and get traind by him pulling the whole isle of frost giants so I gated out and came back. Took maybe 1 min and there he was again FULL HEALTH. Give me a brake. Did he gate? well he didnt cast a single spell the whol battle. Go figre. Just another waist of time if you ask me

A 34 War, 33 Ran, 32 Dru, and me (35 cleric) tried to take him out one day we saw him. He cleaned all of our cloks and about 10 others in the area. He is a Shaman about lvl 40. He likes to heal as well as gate when his hp drops. We got a 51 ranger to help us and it still took a while to drop this punk. Be very Careful.

Snow dervishes suck
# Dec 28 2000 at 11:08 PM Rating: Default
These guys get my vote as the most annoying mob in the new continent. My introduction to Velious went as follows: I bought the level 34 TP spells from the N. Karana gypsy camp, gated over there, and was attacked by three snow dervishes the instant I materialized. Before the zoning-in video lag cleared out, I was dead. I was about level 36 at the time. I had to TP back with a level 48 cleric.. both to rez me and to fight off the snow dervs as I was looting my corpse. Since then I have killed several of these stupid things... but they're still a nuisance mob with a very high aggro range.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 14 2001 at 3:55 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think you were stupid for porting over in the first place. Its a new continent, i would take the boat and work my way in...dumbass

# Jan 01 2001 at 2:20 AM Rating: Default
I agree...I think it sucks that they'd put those nasty guys right at the port landing spot and make 'em aggro right off the bat. It's one reason why I won't port anyone there unless they're paying major pp for the trip =P
RE: Snow dervishes suck
# Jan 16 2001 at 6:38 AM Rating: Default
What I think sucks is when high level players agro them on the way to the boat and they agro on characters level 28-32 while fighing Snow Cougars. Please, please, PLEASE at least shout that there is a Derv on your *** if one agroes on you. I was playing guardian angle over a guild group the other night on the 7th Hammer when some ******* agroed 3 of them on the poor guildmates who had no where to run to. I tried to heal and kite them, but they all ended up dying.

Take care of your trains, for the sake of other people. It's only fair.

I agree! some people are just too darn inconsiderate!! There was this level 45 druid kiting 3 of these monsters and ended having to come to me (level 30 wiz) and my druid friend (level 29) asking for help while we were busy killing two cougars on us. Two of which aggroed on us, while the other one was snared. And, you know what the LEVEL 45 druid did? He ******* gated!!!

Dire Wolf and Dire Wolf Scout
# Dec 21 2000 at 5:56 PM Rating: Default
There are Dire Wolfs here also. They are found on Tower Island across from Cougar Island (the one with the dock). They are about two levels above the toughest Snow Cougars - so level 35 sounds right. There is a rare Dire Wolf (scout I think) that is a bit harder to take down. This type dropped a piece of the map (Lore - No Drop) that the pirate wants.

It's the dire wolf stalker that your talking about , not a scout. Well he was blue to me at 38 and 39... but he was alot stronger than what he conned. instead of double hitting in the 60s... he usually double hit me for about 87. the other shaman in my group had to waste all his mana healing me and then ran OOM. I had to kite him around the shaman so he could get the mana for a heal (the dire wolves can't outrun SOW, well not in iceclad anyway). He DID drop the piece of the map.

Killed it last night. Started off with a 60 Oracle and a 33 Druid. Well we kited it for 10 minutes letting pet attack it cus our spells wouldnt stick. I just healed and ran it around while Oracle medded. Then we got a 60 Arch-Mage to help. Resists spells and sick another pet on it. There were 3 running it around. about 5 minutes later came a 53 Mystic and then we had 3 pets and 4 ppl running it around. At a little passed half life it started running in a small circle in the water and attacking only rarely. Took us about another 10 minutes of all of us hacking on it for it to drop. No faction, no loot, nothing....

Shadow Guardians arent that high
# Dec 15 2000 at 10:32 PM Rating: Default
I had absolutely no problem hunting Shadow Guardians near the gnoll camp at level 31. Every one I saw con'd a blue me. Druid level 31 could kill them all day solo. They hit really damn hard though, mostly in the 80's. So you cannot get close to them, but they were easily outrun in case of trouble. Takes all my mana to kill one so lots of downtime between fights. Between those and the snow cats a druid is in Kite heaven at gnolls in thier 30's. Watch out for the damn turtle though, things death on flippers.

Ya, supposedly you kill Garou and get Skin of Garou and kill Midnight and get its Bloody Cougar Bone and turn both in to Belix to get the Garou Bone Club: 1HB 5/25 7int/wis Effect: Curse of the Garou CLR/SHD/DRU/SHM/ALL I found that info on eqmaps. I'm hoping that someone out there can give me some further info on like how many hps Garou has, what class, spells casts (if any), etc. Do you have to kill all the wandering npcs around the tower to get it to spawn? What does the proc on the weapon do as well. If anyone can help me, it'd be greatly appreciated. :)

I killed him with my level 48 druid. Took me two tries because I underestimated him. He was meleing for around 97 ( so he's around level 40 ). He also casts shaman spells. Took me a while to kill him, because he has very high fire resist ( grrr ). Couldn't stick firestrike on him worth crap, but was able to blast him fine with drifting death and fury of the sky...so magic based spells seems to be the way to go. When I killed him he dropped the fang, a cleric spell, and a low quality dire wolf pelt. So apprently he doesn't drop the quest piece every time.

Ran into this guy last night, he packed aproximately 3-4khp. Took a while to finish him cause he gates when the going gets tough and heals himself whenever he has the chance. Took him down with a wizard, warrior and cleric, all around 50. Would have been easy if we weren't fighting cougars at the same time lol.

He dropped the skin and Fang of the Garou, a nice war/rog piercer with lifetap.

Basically the lost pirate has 4 map pieces, so far I've gathers Direwolf stalkers piece, the Stormfeather piece, he also says that he gave the 3rd piece to a mate of his who wandered towards the bridge, no idea maybe he got mugged.. The 4th piece went out to sea, and I heard basically the Lodizal has the 4th piece. I'm just trying to figure out where that third piece is so I can bug the next group of people killing Lodizal for the 4th piece and pass info reguarding the reward and the other pieces =)

The Lost Pirate can be found on a remote shore of Cougar Island (the icy finger island with the boat dock). Once you hail him, key words to get additional information include "lost" "map" and "gone". Using the word map seems to sober him up and he goes silent though. He tells of the map book he created of Iceclad. He says that he was attacked by a beast from the ground (the Dire Wolf Stalker) who ripped out the first (half or part) of the map. He was attacked again by a beast from the air (the griffon Stormfeather) and the second part of the map was taken. He makes acomment about that taking another quarter of the map book which leads me to think that there are more than just two "halves" to the map. I have also heard rumor that the named sea turtle carries a piece. Maybe we have a land, sea, air theme going here.

Now after that my see Invis went out and i hailed it again with no response, put see invis back on and it responded again. Kind of odd. I tried to fight it and it resisted and hit me and kicked me about 5 times in 2 seconds. 70dmg on slashes and 24 on kick. I ran tried casting on it once more and gave up. It does swim very fast, good thing i had lev and sow on.

He is "probably win" green to me at 30 so that would put his con at around L24? but he hits fast for 70, and he runs fast (but not as fast as SOW)... and as stated he seems completely immune to magic.
Snow cougars underconned
# Dec 07 2000 at 4:38 PM Rating: Default
Ok I went in on the FIRST day with my druid, just to scout out how to get to city and so forth. I conned the kitties which were NOT kos to druid(DUH, but with SOME cats you can be so...). With my druid I ran mostly inviz and camoed, but with my Mage I didn't have levi so I pulled up a pet, WRONG thing to do, pet aggroed ON ITS OWN one of the BLUE kitties and was DEAD in about 5 hits. This was a level 29 FIRE pet(ice/fire you know what I thought, Fire melts ice and so forth).
I got a rez and took a small group to the city(they paid for the rez to get me to take them WOOT). BUT having hunted GIANTS and dire wolves near the city I would HAVE to say these cats are HARDER, all I saw around on the corspes that I stopped to loot was a few pelts(they might have looted the change and better items first though so bear that in mind).

A 33 Shaman can easily solo the blue snow cougars in Iceclad. Pull with Affliction. Root. Malise. Evenomed Breath. Repeat Roots and EBs as needed. I always pull one to the edge of the island so I don't need to worry about wanderers. I think it's kind of foolish to kite or fear them considering how small the islands are and how closely packed they are.
RE: Snow cougars underconned
# Dec 14 2000 at 4:38 PM Rating: Default
Not to mention the fact that if you've feared them, your DOTs are only doing 2/3 damage to them. I've got the cats rooted so they don't aggro others and I can meditate and regain mana in the meantime.

Now hold it. If you kite your DOT does 2/3rds damage because its chasing you. But when something runs from you. Your DOT is suppose to do 100% damage. Unless I'm mistaken that is correct. Of course I haven't fear kited in a very long time.

Yes, that is correct, feared mobs take 100% damage from DoTs.

As a level 58 warrior, cougars are a pretty easy solo kill. They drop a pretty nice earring roughly 1-2% of the time (seems to be the reported rate). For me, they attacked on sight, so either the Druid wasn't attacked because he wasn't visible at the time, or because cats like Druids. The magician pet, though, I'm pretty sure was attacked by the cougar first.

Gee, they're easy at 58? They're easy for a 33 shaman to solo, so I would hope so!

Warriors cannt solo after umm lets see ahhh level umm oh yeah thats right level 4. Its just not viable because of the EXTRAMLY LONG downtime. BUT a 58 can do very low greens such as these in about 5 rounds of comabt.

i think that these cougars are underconed however at lvl 32 (shadow knight) i am able to solo these with ease so i am sure a warrior could solo if they had some sort of regen and could bandage worth a damn

RE: Dont see the tower in this zone on the zone list
# Dec 11 2000 at 3:18 AM Rating: Default
The tower is apparently a separate zone. It is one way...you zone in, kill some mob on the first floor to get a key to the second floor, then a mob on the second floor drops the exit key. Sort of a cross between Befallen and Veeshan's Peak. I don't know the name of the zone, this info came to me secondhand from a guildmate who got trapped inside.
RE: Dont see the tower in this zone on the zone list
# Dec 11 2000 at 4:41 PM Rating: Default
Your friend should feel pretty dumb, because you can get out of the zone without a key. There's a window-looking object on the wall where you zone in. Get in front of it and click on it to zone out.

Y'know, the "dumb" comment was unnecessary. What kind of low self esteem do you have that requires you to tack on an insult to an answer? Or maybe you're just mean? or maybe people aren't nice to you so you take any opportunity you can get to put others down? who knows . . . nevertheless, the "dumb" comment was mean, unnecesary, and could create a deterrent to those who simply try to help. Go kick a pit bull, if you must hurt something. At least it can immediately return the sentiment.

Ran into Midnight (named black panther) and 2 snow leopards - 45 Ogre warrior got chomped big time, even though all green cons :( took one down halfway and I was almost dead - after getting healed to full when down to 1 bub...finally a chanter ran by and save me with mez...

Also, the pirate captain must be a different faction - the pirates are amiable to me, went shopping in outpost, vendors liked me, then suddenly captain shows up and eats me. hehe.. kinda sucked

The lore on the EQ site and/or in the SoV manual mentions a friendly race of gnolls they encountered upon landing on Velious. I would assume these are them.
RE: Raventod
# Dec 09 2000 at 1:38 AM Rating: Decent
These gnolls give a quest for a harpoon. You need to get:
1) A strong Staff
2) A strong Bone
3) Strong String

I have what i think is ther strong staff and strong string and I know the bone drops off a whale, anyone know where whales are found?
RE: Raventod
# Dec 09 2000 at 3:18 AM Rating: Default
Tell me which gnoll gives the quest and what the keywords are and Ill tell you where to find the bone. Got one today and it makes me think this isnt a low lvl quest.

PS Doesnt drop off of a whale.
RE: Raventod
# Dec 12 2000 at 3:19 AM Rating: Good
cant remember keywords off hand, but what I can tell you is:
The "strong staff" is a staff of "rune and totem" I am assuming this is a runed totem staff.
The "strong string" is steel string a lore item.
Keywords may include: "what spear?"
"who is Groumshak?"

Thats all i have atm. The keywords are fairly easy to find once you get talking with them.
Any info on how to get a whale bone is VERY much appreciated as it is the last piece I need.

PS. Is the bone no-drop? can a lvl 51 druid aquire one?

He/she's saying that Enchanters in Elemental form will also be KOS by the Gnome Pirates. I have seen this happen with Illusion: Air Elemental, I assume they'll jump any of them though.

I was grouped with a 35 Pally and a 39 Cleric (me being a 39 Mage) and we hunted the sentrys near the Dragon Bridge for a couple hours. They do have alot of HPs and do hit very hard. They do seem to have very low resists though .. Cleric was sticking his Fear and none of my nukes were resisted. I would suggest kiting or some kind of fear against these guys to keep from getting smacked too often. They don't drop coin like an HG though ... most I got from one was 6pp.

me (lvl 30 warrior) and a lvl 30 shaman and cleric took on these guys by pulling to the dragon bridge and root, slow, debuff then tank adn root, with the cleric healing, even though most of em (we were fighting the elites) were read we had no real provlems, lots of hp though.

Last night I was kiting Dire Wolves around the Iceclad gate area and I happened upon a named Frost Giant. Don't remember what his name was, sorry, but he was walking close to the water toward the gate area. If anyone wants his name I'll look him up in my log file. Anyway, I snared him and started nuking. No resists and full damage on all. Got down to about 1 bubble of mana and the hp bar had barely moved. He conned even to my 37th level Druid. Wish I could have taken him down to see what he drops since I haven't seen any word of him in any other posts.
