The Crystal Caverns are the site of Froststone, once home to the Coldain. Although the citizens of Froststone still have a small outpost in these caverns, the area is largely controlled by the Ry`Gorr Clan. Adventurers must also beware of the tentacle terrors and crystal spiders which have made homes out of the abandoned halls.

I have been reading the threads about the experience in this zone and am very curious. Is it too early for a nearly Level 34 Human Paladin to Solo here or should I seek out adventure elsewhere? Inputs would be appreciated.
The Fabled Ry` Gorr Herbalist
# Mar 17 2006 at 6:22 PM Rating: Decent
I ran in to The Fabled Ry` Gorr Herbalist on my way to the Geonids in Crystal Cavern. He disenchanted my temp and continued to root me over and over for long periods of time. I was a level 44 pally and he was blue to me but from the disenchantment and the train of miners and etc. I could not take him I managed to make it to the dwarf city and had the guards take them out. I only lived because of potions and lay hands I dont know what level he is or what he drops but he is a tough one. I checked the Bestiary and his name is not listed so I thought I would make this post.

# Jan 17 2005 at 9:06 AM Rating: Decent
Was goofing off in here today on my 55 rogue collecting the silks to work my tailoring when I decided to see how tough Queen would be solo for a rouge. After killing her I noticed a bag on the ground in front of her. I picked it up and it was a "Cryptic Note". Can't find any mention of it anywhere yet. Any ideas? Once I get back to PoK will have some one Identify and see what the lore is.
Purifier and Grinder

Two NPC mobs are not listed here.
The Purifier and the grinder (spiders). Both drop weapons (cystalline blade and crystal grinder) and I believe the purifier drops a crystalline slippers.
Gems
# Mar 12 2004 at 8:11 AM Rating: Good
I was wondering what/if any recipes the crushed and flawed gems (the ones with stats ) that drop off the Geos could be used for. I have a Jewelcraft skill of 92, but can be easily raised. So I am hoping these can be used for extra stats in jewelry. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

These gems are not used for Jewelcraft - they are used in a variety or quests or simply have no use are sold for cash.

RE: fear/kite??
# Oct 31 2003 at 10:59 PM Rating: Decent
Pathing probably makes fear-kiting a bad idea in most parts of this zone. However, the orcs aren't terribly tough, you can probably pet-tank them without much trouble.
RE: fear/kite??
# Oct 03 2003 at 11:01 PM Rating: Decent
I would not recommend it. I do not know of anywhere within the zone that you might be able to chase anything in here without getting several adds, though there is one possible spot, I guess. The end of the orc hall nearest the town might be possible. There are about 4 or 5 spawns in that long length of hall, but I'm not sure which way they'd run when feared. If they run to the "Well", you'd have pretty much the entire orc population on you fairly quickly.

With 30 people of the level you list, you would walk all over this zone. With that many, you might be better off dividing into 2 or 3 smaller groups and spreading out in here.
Rogue dwarf at top of one-way exit in CC ?
# Jul 15 2003 at 9:59 PM Rating: Decent

Went to CC the other day for the first time. Grand adventure up to the point where the chanter who was with our group ran out the top one-way exit right into the path of a dwarf (ousted Coldain?) who killed her; I had to go through there to rez her, with the help of a shaman who lured the guard away so I could do so, dying in the process! The dwarf looked a lot like Scout Grandan... ? Who is the dwarf that attacks good races that exit the top of the cc cave? I did not have bad faction with Coldains and wonder why I would be attacked by one unless he was a rogue working for the Ry'Gorr. Just curious if anyone knows anything about him.

Inadvertanly Poped out the exit - with my 38 pallie my 38 pallie buddy and a 41 Cleric came out with me -- con was Blue i think ( ha ha ) The Cannot be rooted - Rouge type i am shure you have seen them in the K's -- Took both LOH and the pallies were stnnin like crazy - the 3 heath bars looked like little blue dots -- had a Dirk of the trator - coldain quest -- the Orc emmasay is a Whoos to this guy .. Same group could take him easy enough but need to know - Rogue -- Not snare or rootable and back stabbs - at a high skill level for shure.. Useing that exit --Invis and run like the ******* - dont stand in the exit wondering where you HP are going - you are being backstabbed and are fixing to CR.

I believe he is a traitor to the Coldain and is on Ry`Gorr faction. He was red to me at 38 and attacked right away. However he does not see invis, so that's how I get around him...

Hope this helps.

# May 19 2003 at 8:43 AM Rating: Decent
the upper lvls are green or light blue for a 39/40 I am a 40 Shaman, but the miners and watchmen do give good loot and faction with the dwarves in the town.
As to down below I suggest unless you are in a grp or are tougher than a giant you invis before you go down the pit (the levitate way)as you can get a nasty surprise otherwise.

Good Zone
# May 05 2003 at 8:13 PM Rating: Decent
This is a great zone, if you are a mid 30's to hunt the Ry'gorrs. And if you are a little higher, then you can hunt the geo's. Geo's are great loot and xp. If you can kill these, I would say that you should. Im pretty sure most classes could kill these easy. The gems that they drop can be sold to other players that can use them for quests or to vendors. Some sell for as much as 200pp to a vendor. Also if you are a tailor or would like to be you can farm silks here.
Question

Where would a safe place to bind near here?
RE: Question
# Apr 24 2003 at 3:42 PM Rating: Default
Melee? Either right inside the zone for Kael (Eastern Wastes Side), or Thurgadin (Great Divide).

Of course, you could just make the run from Great Divide portal if you have access to Plane of Knowledge. Get a SOW/LEVITATE and it is only about a 10 minute run.

Spellcastors can bind on that small hill in front of the Ry'Gorr Fort in Eastern Wastes.. This is fairly safe and very close to the portal to CC.

Don't even think about it... It's a waste of time!
# Feb 12 2003 at 3:12 PM Rating: Decent
I thought from what I have heard about CC that it would be a great place to level me and my friends. After, making a terribly risky run from POK book in Great Divide to the Ry'gorr fort we found our way into CC. Once inside I did a "/who" to see who was in the zone. To my surprise there was only a few anonymous people in here. After taking down some orc miners we soon came to find who those "anon" people were, as a lvl 60 monk came slashing through killing every orc in sight. He proceeded to run up and down the zone killing every orc that popped. This is not a place to lvl as it is continually raped and pillaged by higher leveled characters. Don't even bother. Might be different on your server though... this is coming from Tholuxe.

On Luclin server, the same is true. The high level characters (55 to 65) farm the Geonids and the Orcs contstantly. I've tried going into the zone at the dead of night on weekends and even weekdays and still they are camped. I'm very disappointed at that. Overall, though, the spiders and the terrors give great exp even into the low 40's. I solo down here a lot with my DE SK just to make cash. I also bring lower lvl friends in here for "Exp tours" about once a week. It's a great zone once you get used to all the twists and turns, too.

This is very true of the Ry'Gorr, but not so much the spiders at the bottom. You can get great exp on the geonids or spiders in the depths of CC.

I wouldn't complain too much about the higher levels farming the ore, since someday you will probably be among them...

On Bertoxxolous the high levels are not farming the ore as much as farming the geonids for gems. Forget camping geonids in CC. Orcs are usually open. So are the spiders. So, I guess it depends on the server you are on.

# Feb 08 2003 at 12:11 PM Rating: Decent
Could I hunt here in two or three lvls or should I go to Fm and get to 34 and then come here? All this talk about great loot is making a greddy ranger like my drool. Im getting pled tommorrow in FM, should I ask if i can come here instead?
Thanks for the help. ON bertoxx

P.S I'll have to agree that the bazaar made the equip loot from this zone less valuable. I saw all the crystalling belts for under 60, the cloak of ry`gorr oracles for under 100, and I just bought a foreman's skullcap for 40p.

Roomates dru is here now, there were only about 8 or 9 people here with one char over 50. Is with a 37 monk killing the geo's after grp of 5 left. Looks like he'll be rich tonight.
