The Crystal Caverns are the site of Froststone, once home to the Coldain. Although the citizens of Froststone still have a small outpost in these caverns, the area is largely controlled by the Ry`Gorr Clan. Adventurers must also beware of the tentacle terrors and crystal spiders which have made homes out of the abandoned halls.

Have a 36 shammy and was looking at zones that might be good exp for him. Looking at the posts here, this might be one to avoid. Too many people telling other people how to play there chars. Usually solo my shammy rather than group. Faster exp plus I enjoy meleeing. :P Hell, can melee better with him than half the so called tanks I ve grouped with but than, to each there own.

ok, i started hunting in CC at about lvl 28. its AMAZING xp and the drops were at the time ph@t l00t. the Bazaar has destroyed it. i used to get 600pp for a BCR, 500 for a crystaline belt, 600 for crystaline robes, 400 for cloak of rygor oracles, 500 for a CCR, and 300 for a herbalist pack. now you can get any one of those items in the bazaar for under 100pp.

what REALLY made me rich though was the ore. between the levels of 30 and 40, i would partner with a shammy or cleric and pay them upfront 500pp to 1k depending on how long they said they would stay, and in return i got to keep all ore drops. not only did we make killah xpz, and i let shammy/cleric have first dibs on lore drops, but i swear to god i made over 150k selling ore in a month. 100pp a block 50 a largebrick, 25 a small brick, and negotiable on stackable (usually 200, but some offered upto 1k each for fast delivery and multiple stacks)....

untill the bazaar opened, CC was my bank. i had 2 mules parked in the bank in frostone to transferrer ore to if my bank was full, i didnt waste slots for items. and i NEVER kept a full mule over night. once word gets out that you are the main farmer of ore, most your level dont know what the shawls are yet, and others dont want to smith because they would rather spend their cash getting a FBSS, but the true ubers out there will pay out the **** for ore.

you can still make decent cash there, but nothing like the pre bazaar days... so i guess this is a combo /rave CC and /rant Bazaar,,,, ill stfu now=p

PS... this dungeon is best suited for lvls 30 to 40, any higher than that would only find decent xp at geos, but that xp is dry by lvl 46. the spawn cycle is fast as hell in most parts, and is GREAT training grounds to learn how to raid, charm, mez, etc... if you are in a low lvl guild and want to "raid" you can do the spidy queen and have a blast, wether you fail or not.

if you are one of those asking "can i hunt here if lvl,,," heres your answer:
lvl 20-29 - better be getting PLed
lvl 29-34 - yes, but stick to upper pit area
lvl 34-37 - risk vs. reward.. terrors hurt,xp rox
lvl 37+ - you own this dungeon if in group, or
solo pit. rest is soloable 40+

As a lvl 40 Erudite mage with Broom of Trilon and summon-twink air pet, i'd prolly own this place. i'm usually VERY shy about attempting a new dungeon, and i have already been in Solusek B, Lower Guk, Dreadlands, Dawnshroud Peaks, GD...i hate them all! Im really picky about them, because i am so used to Highkeep's 1. Merchants 2. Guards 3. Easy group access 4. Faction quests and so on and so forth.

All these posts im reading tell me of the crap i want and I think I'll give this place a chance and even if it turns out not what i wanted, i can still go back to dawnshroud and solo sambatas until i can try my epic for a change...

id say with a 4th person as mele, you could group here, but do not go any farther than the first ice bridge that is guarded by the rygorr watchmen. if you do, the adds will surely kick yer *****

at that level, stick to miners near the top, and be ready to evac or train zone, but expect GREAT xp if you do manage to take a few down

edit note : at that level, avoid Ry'Gorr oracles at all cost, but if you catch a herbalist or inspector close to zone, give it a try just for the loots sake,

There seems to be a ton of NPC's missing from this list, not sure if they've added new ones maybe? Or if someone goofed. But, there's at least 9 NPC's that I don't see here.

On a side note, anyone know any other way (Besides the Skyshinne quest) to raise yer faction with the Froststone Citizens?

They give faction.

Of course it will take time
But it is an easy way to do it and you can always sell the sellables or keep them for some tradeskills addict..."good" way to make faction and cash.

killed the queen the other day, took a full group with 60 enchanter buffs, but was a sinch. dropped crystalline robes, the scepter, and 4 crystalline silks.

the loot here is awesome, chipped gems sell for good moeny to NPC's. however at level 40 (paladin) the exp is coming a bit slow, so i dunno ifd they nerfed exp in CC< or nerfed exp at 40 (???)

40 is a hell level. even though they smoothed out the xp curve, 40 is still tougher than 39 or 41. xp is fine up to like 49. 50.

Try Crystal Caverns.

I went from 39-41 in 3 hours with a good group. I'm a non tweaked Ogre Warrior.

Think about it.

Several have asked about faction with the dwarves in CC. They are on their very own faction, and everyone is dubious no matter what race, class, or deity. There is only one way to increase your faction with them, and that is by doing a quest that involves Thurgadin. (You spend like 20pp in Thurgadin to get something that you turn in to one of the dwarves in CC.) From what I read, since I have not done this myself, is that it is very expensive and takes numerous trips between Thurgadin and CC. (The item is lore.) So, my recomendation is to not do it. Load up on the loot in your bank and on your person and make that run once in a while to a vendor. Or, if you have means to "encourage" the vendors to sell to you, e.g., an enchanter, bard, or one of the sneaking classes, then you can trade in CC. Hope this helps.

Also, there is a bank in the Dwarven Fort in CC that all can use, unless, of course, you start killing said dwarves. Binding? You CANNOT bind in CC no matter what your class. The closest place is just outside the zone, or if you are a melee class, Kael or Thurgadin, depending on faction.

Here is an update !
If you kill Orcs, they'll give you faction with the dwarves. Now, you can see a lot of people hitting your mob onceto get faction...tagging power...
Most of them are looking for some new quest in the city I guess...I will try to give more feedback about that asap.

It's part of the Skyshrine Spirit of Garzicor/Ethereal Bladed Naginata quest. The book cost 50pp each. You get it from Loremaster Sarl(?) in Thurgadin, he is in the very back by the statue. You can hail him and follow the text if you want to(he tells a cool story) or just target him and say "black". At that point he will despawn there and respawn in the library, right inside on the right coming from classroom. You just walk up and give him the 50pp and he will give you a book. You then turn that book into Historian Banek(?) in CC for your faction.

You are right about the cost though, I have done it over 10 times and am still dubious. But for anyone who regularly farms the Geonids/Miners/Spiders it will end up being worth it, since you will have a much easier time selling all the worthless crap you'll get.

Little help on this zone...

My first char ever was a cleric. At level 29 I came here and didnt leave until level 45 when the Geonids went light blue on me. This zone is fairly remote and a lot of people dont come here, so healers are a premium. With that said:

Until level 35 or so you are advised to hunt the orcs. Go to town by jumping down the pit(Lev, invis, sow or DA will get you to town safely) Once there let the guards clean up the train you made. At this point you want to head back the way you came and kill the 3-4 orcs before the bottom of the pit. With a group you can obviously handle more.

Once reaching level 35(you can get xp from orcs until 39) you should try to get a group in one of the three harder tunnels: Geonids, Spiders or Terrors. It was not uncommon for my cleric in the Geo tunnels to get 200pp+ splits in a FULL group. This is where every true newb needs to xp until 45. If you stay here permanently 29-45 you should have a good 6kpp+ of cash if you just buy supplies and pay for occasional rezzes.

Spiders are more difficult, they like to run, they are fast, they have a velium poison dot, the queen is hard and the spawn rate is fast. I wouldnt suggest this tunnel unless your Chanter, Cleric, and Tank are lvl 40+.

Terrors are by far the hardest. They hit the hardest and have reasonably more hp than the spiders. They are also the best xp to lvl 45. Pathing here is very messed up, and its extremely difficult to get a good pull here. Crowd Control and a good puller are a must for you to live.

I am now a Level 60 cleric, and I have raised 4 toons(44 monk, 45 war, 48 BST, 60 Clr) in Crystal Caverns. The money is great, the xp is great, you have a fairly quiet zone with a small population of PC's, and the camps are clearly defined. I would suggest leveling here over any of the afore mentioned zones, one suggestion tho. Have your cleric bind outside otherwise everyone is running across EW naked from Thurg which, believe me, is not fun with griffons, giants, rygorr, dervs, manticores and much more between you and the zone to CC.
RE: CC
# Dec 18 2003 at 4:52 PM Rating: Decent
Just a note for non-invising chars using methods such as DA (clerics) to get to the bottom of the pit. PLEASE invest in a couple of invis potions and come down that way. You can get them just two zones over in Thurgadin. If you bring a train with you on your way down you might make it to the town OK but the poor SOBs grouping/soloing on orcs at the bottom will be in for a very bad time indeed.
P.S. Doing a zone wide shout of "Coming down the pit! Move it or lose it!" as I have seen happen several times is just plain arrogant. Your being too cheap to buy an invis potion does not give you the right to mess up me and my camp. Giving me a few seconds warning of the train about to come does not make it all better.

Aye lad or lass, you can truly hunt here when you have reached your 30th season. As a 30th seasoned Shaman I entered here with a 30th level Enchanter. We started at the top of the ramp when you enter into CC from EW. There is a single orc that spawns near the entrance (a miner) that you can handle with a pair of you. It is not easy for some classes. The mobs hit very hard and often interpt your spells. At 30 stay near the zone so you can make a quick escape if things go wrong. After you pull the initial orc you can venture down the ramp and near the top of the pit there are two orcs that spawn there, if you can lull or mez you can single pull or try to take them both on. If you get it split and timed you can take on three orcs (might be a forth) for some decent exp and very good loot (some drops Velium bricks worth a chunk of pp). Solo would be difficult unless heavily twinked, but with the correct duo a pair could do quite well. Most people in the zone will be closer to 40s so finding a group is difficult. Bring your own friends. Hope that clears it up for you and everyone else. I speak from experience. I have just left the Crystal Caverns after the Terrors went light blue to me at 40. Happy hunting one and all!
RE: unsure level
# Aug 19 2002 at 8:02 AM Rating: Decent
A well-rounded, full, semi-twinked or better group *may* be able to hunt here, especially if they're careful about what they hunt. But, frankly, I think they'd be foolish and the risk of something going Wrong would be fairly high: there are a lot of other places to hunt that are better for that level, such as Highpass Keep or the Giant Fort in the Frontier Mountains.
RE: unsure level
# Nov 07 2002 at 3:01 PM Rating: Decent
Two words, fear kite. First get an invis and lev, go to the pit, lev down to the bottom, and go out the bottom exit, turn right and keep going to the icyish area with the ramp and a path to the left. Make sure you have fear, and a pet if possible, there is an orc watchman that spawns near there, and many wanderers that walk, but never come up to the top where they can see you. Just be careful when going down, sick pet on a mob, or just fear right from the start. Pet will beat on it as it runs up and down the ramp, you may have to re fear a few times, and throw in a nuke/dot here and the for good measure. There's a bank, and merchants off the icy path, dubious, as you can bank, but can't sell unless you're a chanter/bard, this is and excellent place for exp/loot from 30 up, just be careful with pulls and don't venture too far into the orc tunnels ^_^

Edit: Oops, just realized you're a war ) better come with a chanter/necro, etc. This is a great pull spot.

Just a bit of advise..
# Aug 16 2002 at 4:25 PM Rating: Decent
I fought here with my Cleric and Druid from about 30 to around 36-37th lvl. The group we had was basically my two characters and a friend with his warrior. He seemed to always be at least 2 lvls lower than me. We found probably one of the best spots I have ever fought at inside this dungeon. If you drop to the bottom of the pit and head to the canyon on your way to the City. Stop ok the Pit side of the canyon just past the Orc Bridge. From this spot you can pull all day long. The best part about this spot is this. And we found this by accident.

My Warrior friend had gone to the pit to pull whatever he could find there. He tagged a simple Minor and started heading back. Well on his way the bridge spawned (at least 3 Warriors). When he got back to our spot he had at least 5 MOBS on him maybe even more. Now here is the trick. The warrior with all the cleric buffs, and Druid buffs I could give him could not stand against this many MOBS at once. So very quickly I had to heal him a few times. Every Cleric out there knows what this does. AGRO the Cleric. Now My cleric can stand his ground pretty well 1 on 1. But 3 on 1 not a chance. So I figured if I was lucky I could make it to the city without dying. With my warrior buddy in pursuit I took off, and as soon as I headed down the Canyon side every MOB that was after me turned around and headed aback to the Orc Bridge. I wouldn’t have know this if my buddy hadn’t told me to stop. So I did, he followed the group of Orcs and found that they where just running back and forth across the bridge. So I step out of the canyon myself, as soon as I did they all came after me again. So this time I just back down a few steps into the canyon, and again back to the bridge they went. See a pattern here?? We couldn’t believe it. So here is what we ended up doing. I would bring my cleric up out of the canyon the MOB would come back, I would Root one with the druid then move the Cleric off the ledge. My Friend would finish the rooted one off, then wash and repeat. :) I think the biggest train we ever survived was like 10 MOBS. He tagged the Herbalist once and I think he went on tour of the lower cave before coming to try and kill us.

So if you find yourself in CC with a Warrior and any kind of healer close to the Canyon go for it. As long as the tank stays close enough for healer to heal you can pull Trains here all day or night long. :)

Good Luck,

Yes, you would have to group here. Most mobs are found in large groups (except some of the Ry'Gorr which are turning light blue at 36). Especially nearing the queen room, you can fight waves of 3-4 spiders at once.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 25 2002 at 8:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well...today I embarked on my journey to CC from Highkeep. Well...I got through kith well, cause it was daytime when I logged on. I then passed through the commons and made my way to the docks in NRo. It was a little bit of a wait, but the small raft that would take me to Iceclad arrived within a few minutes. I landed on a small island in Iceclad and started waiting at the docks on this small island. This was a little bit longer of a wait, but in time, a crazy contraption called the Icebreaker arrived and I boarded the "ship". After a small trip across the water, the "ship" landed on an Island with a few drunken Gnomish pirates at the dock. They were not hostile, in fact, they were amiable. After that, I made my way along the Islands until I arrived at the GIANT dragon bridge. Speaking of giant, there were 2 frost giant elites guarding the bridge, but luckily they couldn't see invis (one red and one yallow to a lvl 31 chanter). After I zoned into EW, I noticed the abundance of high level mobs and the fact that I was the lowest level person in the zone, the made me uneasy adn I ran all they way back to the commons with my tail between my legs. To say the least, it wasn't a very good experience, I think I'll wait til I get a few levels until I try again. Or I might get a group, if anyone would like to group with me, send a tell to Svinter on the Crashing server (Innoruuk). (Wow I wrote a lot more than I expected)

I am pretty sure a 27 rogue could probably get a group here, but I don't know for sure. I went here with my warrior, at 30 I think, it was great leveling, and I think this zone is definately the most exiting to level in. If ya can't get a group here, try LOIO for one level, and then go to OT or FM until you are 30, then I really suggest you hunnt here, it is a really good break from hunting in OT, one of the most boring zones ever, in my opinion.

Usually when people go here, they go with a group. Not many pick up groups here. In all the time I have been in CC, I don't think I saw anyone saying "XXX LFG".

I would almost say, 'no'. But you can try, you might get lucky :L). It will also be hard for you to get to the bottom of the well, since pallys cannot invis past the orcs. Invis potions can take care of that though.

Great zone, IMHO. Very fun.
