Freeport is the gateway into Antonica, acting as a hub of sorts for the continent. After the trek across the Ocean of Tears, visitors dock in the Freeport Harbor and check in with the Port Authority. The eastern part of Freeport is home to the Freeport Militia, the League of Antonican Bards, Steel Warriors, Dismal Rage, and Coalition of Tradesfolk Illegal.

At the southern tip of the city is the gate to the Desert of Ro. Within the Arena run by the Steel Warriors is a massive statue of the Maiden of Rage, Sullon Zek. This statue acts as the portal into the Plane of Rage.

The Dark Elf Shadowknight and Freeport Factions

My first (and only) evil character is a dark elf shadowknight, and I knew there would be a many issues with faction when I created her. Here are some of my experiences with the various factions in Freeport. As a note, I now have access to nearly the entire city. Noteable exceptions include the clerics' guild (NFP) and the casters' guild (WFP).

Presently, I con apprehensive to the bard guild and Freeport Militia; indifferent to the monk guild; amiable to the fighter, rogue, necromancer and shadowknight guild; and, ironically, _fondly_ to the paladin guild.

Ain't Freeport a wacky city?

When you first enter Freeport, carefully approach the gates. When you can see the guards, /con them. I found them dubious to me initially, but don't let that fool you. The merchants (including Boomba) may still attack you.

What do you do, then? Well, as people online and offline will tell you: go to EC and kill orcs. Kill every passing orc pawn. Go to Orc 1 and Orc 2 and kill orcs until your eyes bleed. Then, when you've gotten them fixed again, kill some more. Kill until you know the family tree of every member of the Deathfist clan.

Just to be safe, kill some more orcs. Also, get as many DF belts you can. Save them, buy them, beat them out of your fellow group members... OK, maybe not that last one, but do get them and keep them. The more, the better.

Every once in a while, head back to Freeport to check your status with merchants. Ping Fuzzle-something in the tent outside the city gates is a good check. If he's dubious, you can probably head into town safely. Well, into East and West Freeport.

NOTE: Killing Orcs does NOT raise your Freeport Militia faction, at least that I've noticed. It raises Commons Residents (merchants in Commonlands), Ashen Order (monk guild in Freeport), Guardians of the Vale (halfing warrior guild) and the Knights of Truth (NFP guards/paladin guild).

If you've killed enough Orcs, you should be able to get into the Fighter guild to turn in the DF belts you've been collecting. Turn in a few at at time, then head out to /con the guards. You see, handing them into the fighter guild instead of the Militia, lowers your Militia faction. But hopefully not enough for them to drop you below dubious. Turning them into the fighter guild also raises your faction with the North Freeport guards (Knights of Truth).

So, after all this, you should be dubious or apprehensive with the Freeport Militia, apprehensive with the Fighter guild and, with enough belts, at least dubious with the Knights of Truth. Also, if you've killed enough orcs, you should be able to bank in NFP. (Yes!) I've noticed that although the banker /con's dubious, he'll still do buisness with me. Go figure.

I've been hunting orcs and doing the belts-to-fighter-guild thing long enough to get 'fondly' with the Knights of Truth, and have the main merchants (the first merchant inside the door) of inns in the Commonlands sell to me.

Now, how did I get the other factions up, you ask? Glad you asked! There are a pair of rogue guild quests from EFP that is very easy to run. AND, to top it off, they raise your faction with the rogue guild (which starts at apprehensive, I believe -- I am a darkie, after all), city merchants and the Freeport Militia. AND(!) there are no faction hits.

What are these quests? Well, Allakhazam is the place to find it, of course! But to save you the trouble, here are the two quests. They both start and end up in the same location in both EFP and WFP, so it makes sense to run them together.

Quest: Note for Janam: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=612
Quest: Note for Rebby: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=613

I won't go into more detail, since the site does that. Run the quest numerous times. I'm at 'aimable' with the merchants in Freeport now, which makes it SO much easier to shop, do tradeskills (especially blacksmithing!) and get around.

I hope that helps those of you looking for some extra info. I don't make any guarantees about anything, since your circumstances will likely be different. This is just what I experienced as a dark elf shadowknight on The Nameless server.

Hate to bust your bubble, but the DF belt quest LOWERS both Knights of Truth and the other faction (can't remember what it is). I'm max ally to every faction except bards and merchants in NFP... but the merchants inside the hall of truth and temple of marr will still sell to me, and i get good prices for being ally too =). This comes from a) camping WFP guards in WC for 3 levels and b) occasionally rampages through WFP killing everything in sight OMW to NFP (obvious exceptions include guildmasters and entrance guards. I'm only 52, sheesh.)

Anyways, the only effective way pretty much to raise both factions without lowering one is to greenie farm. I personally find it much more effecient to be KOS to one and max ally to the other. I like NFP because I think its cool to be max ally in the temple of marr and the hall of truth when I'm a inny worhsiping DE =). Anyways,
just my insight. If the DF belt quest raised BOTH factions, it'd be nice, but it lowers knights of truth and I believe temple of marr (not pos on temple).

Never read the post did you? He said hand the belts in at the warrior guild, which raises faction with the Knights of Truth. Handing them in at the militia house in West Freeport would of course lower faction with Knights of Truth.

So that's your "bubble burst".

Yeah, BUT faction minuses from quests which are NON DEATH don't get you below glower dubious (at least from what I've seen) They are also quite small minuses.

Besides that, orc pawns and all commons orcs (the new ones in nek forest too) raise knights of truth. Once knights of truth are raised enough, you can do some quest like buying regular cloth shirts from an inn in the east commons and giving them to the paladin guy Altunic, who wanders. This was how even my dark elf cleric of inoruuk got up to apprehensive with the North Freeport cleric guild while of course getting MAX allied with the paladins.

Occasionally doing some deathfist belts to the militia will keep it from going too far into the sewer.

Non clerics have no reason to go into the temple of Marr in NFP anyway, and the people on that faction don't go outside of it. So its easy to kill orcs to raise north freep pally/guards while turning in deathfist belts to the militia sometimes to not get too low with them.

My dark elf cleric found it convenient to raise her cleric faction there because its much faster to run into NFP for new spells when in the area then it is to run all the way to the blasted neriak third gate. It was also a fun hobby and use of the halfling one use mask sometimes.
