Lake Rathetear separates the Mountains of Rathe from the Southern Plains of Karana. Around the lake are several areas of interest: Some vendor outposts, a fishing village, as well as established camps of orcs, gnolls, aviaks, and ogres.

In the depths of Lake Rathetear you will find some of the more dangerous inhabitants. Among them, the dark elf, Deep, and Lord Bergurgle of the aqua goblins.

For all of you wondering about the leviathan or kraken/lake monster whatever you want to call it. This has been a rumor floating around since release. In all actuality there was a monster in the waters during beta but nothing since actual release. To my knowledge they have never put it in game (gm quest or otherwise) but this particular monster has definately become Everquests version of the loch ness monster.

It was in beta phase 3.

The thing was huge but could not really move. If you got right by it there was an area it could kill you while you could not hit it. Due to its size and some other bad problems, it was removed in phase 4.

I don't know if any subsquent similar creature was in the game as part of a gm event, but the megladon is forever gone. I only saw its top, swimming by as far as possible in phase 3 with my ogre warrior. I heard it looked like a hammerhead shark.

I saw this in Beta3, it was just a giant shark model (not hammerhead). I think the problem was that they could not get the pathing down, both times I saw him he was stuck on the beach at the orc camp closest to the Rathe zoneline.

BTW, he was only around 35th level; I was only ~24th when I saw him but Asmodeus (anyone in beta should recognize that name) told me that he was only mid-level and that he had killed him (green to him and not itemized.)

Yup Kraken was taken out of Beta cause you could stand on the shore and cast on it and it couldnt hit back, how unfair! But its never been on live version

What happened was that the GMs spawned a dragon or something in the lake once either just for fun or to test and see if it would be a good idea - it turned into a freakin bloodbath and they finally had to despawn the thing.

There was a monster called Kraken. I saw it with my own eyes. It was invisible and you need a magic weapon to kill it. It's around levels 50-52 and has 1200 HP. I don't have a picture but I can try to. There is also a ??????osaur in the water. Freaky-looking thing. Level 60 and has 5000 HP, has a bulging eye. That's all the info for now.
