I got it today for my cleric in The Steppes. It droped off the gnolls. It is EXTREMELY rare. I also heard it has dropped in direwind. However, I cannot confirm that.

I'm starting to think that "a Darkfell gnoll" is the default drop mob for every spell I need to find.

If it's as rare as the Magician's pet weapon spell...I'm not gonna be a happy camper.

Yes, one would assume so but having an exact area to farm helps.
