HAHA- yeah- our spells take forever to cast. Ever our AE's have a low rate of getting through sometimes when trying to tank large numbers of mobs flying solo...fast casts are especially nice in those situations. Smiley: nod
cast time

the reason this spell is decent is obvious to anybody with an open mind - run speed or sow pots air pet that stuns for 4 seconds the ability to summon instant cast time clicky dps.. should be obvious that soe is giving minor kite ability to mages - my 66 mage does it all the time (with scars of sigil) in HoH basements works fairly well just watch for the 118 dmg message that is pets stun spell and stop to use the 3 sec cast time nuke while using the lava orbs (or better) on mob while pet doesnt have it stunned.. all of pets bashes that stun the mob just add to your escape but you shouldnt attempt to stop and cast during a bash stun.. try it folks if you dont like it dont knock it just dont do it

Yes it is a fast casting spell like scars of sigil. Very nice. Low mana. 3rd rune turn in.

I've yet to see a solid argument why this spell is actually good. The ratio is only 4.0 (Bolt of Jerikor = 4.94 and Blade Strike = 4.71) and it isn't bigger than the two traditional nukes as just mentioned. The only use I have found for it is when you are fighting low hp mobs and you want to dead them a bit quicker / also for faster chance on a GoM proc. Hardly a good argument to make this a L69 spell (greater isn't droppable, slightly harder to come by).

I can see a few ways that this could be a good spell, even though I haven't hit 69 yet.

First is the casting speed. Sometimes you need to hit the mob pretty quickly to finish it off, for example. If you're soloing, or in a group that has no way to snare, dropping a mob's life quickly from 20% to 0% is critical.

Second is that, while there are rain AoEs that do more damage with just as short a cast time, if the mob is on the move, the rain spells rarely land the third hit, and frequently don't land the second hit, either. Also, if the mob is wandering through a pack of your friendly NPCs, whipping out the AoE is a bad, BAD idea.

Third is that it's not a line of sight nuke, meaning that if you can start casting, you can still hit a mob that turns the corner, or wanders behind a rock or tree, or down an incline, or...

Fourth is that it's not a bolt nuke, which means the instant it's done casting, the mob takes damage, instead of having the spell fly through the air for several second before landing on the mob (depending on how far away you are from your target when you cast a bolt).

Fifth is that, unlike rain AoEs, the refresh timer on this is short, so you can immediately cast again, if need be.

Is this a bolt spell like scars of sigil? It's just nice to finally see a mage nuke with good damage AND a low cast time.

The Target Type is listed as single, so I'm assuming it's a DD spell not a bolt spell. Bolt spells are normally listed as Line of Sight under the target type.

Useful for finishing off runners in dungeon type settings.

This spell would be great if it also caused a snare like effect. Yeah I can see it now Druids, Wizards, Necromancers, and Shamans ******** at the possibility of Magicians having a snare effect added to a spell. I mean the spell name Burning Earth sounds like a Damage over Time snare effecting spell more than a Direct Damage.

Here Here! a snare or even fear would be greatly welcomed...

Fear spells really don't fit in with the Mage genre Everquest has built. They're elementalists - fear really isn't that important to them. I could see snare, but I can see quite easily why Sony wouldn't put a snare effect into anything a Mage can do, spells, AAs, or otherwise. I could much more easily see root than snare, and it would have to be an earth based spell.

If you really need a snare, invest in some Serrated Bone Dirks or a Kunzar Ku`Juch and a spare for the shared bank. Yes, the bill adds up over time, but they're two snares for your pet.

What I would have liked to see in Mages, since they *are* supposed to be elementalists, is more nukes that qualify as Earth, Air, and Water. We've got Fire in spades, what about the other elements? Sure, we've got Rock of Taelosia, but that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.
