I remember at first it looked underwhelming so I hadn't bothered getting it and was still using Dark Plague. I was soloing at 66, aggro kiting a red con for about 2-3 min per mob. I did about 20 AAs repeating it over and over.
Then, I happened to get this upgrade and goodness me what have I been missing. It's no joke, this spell is significant. If you are having to take down a mob fast (like in a group) then these disease line of spells are too long, but for soloing a red con (supposedly a long fight) this is god send. I started to use it WITH Dark Plague and they work wonders. I was using about 55% mana per kill, but after this spell about 40% and much less hassle because I could spend more time away from the mob medding while he caught up with me.
Try stacking all the efficient dots like so:
Chaos Plague
Dark Plague
Night Fire
Funeral Pyre
Pyrocruor (still a great candidate for overstacking)
Blood of Thule
Then possibly Horror and/or Splurt, if you fancy. Even better with DoT crit AA.
I tend to try avoid Curse line of spells while soloing as they are a mana hog, though great for group's quick fights. Generally though, Disease (Plague) line are the most efficient but slow acting, followed by Fire line which is quicker acting, then even faster Poison line which is a middle way, and fastest being the Curse line with inefficient mana usage.
Don't ignore this spell, despite the lack of apparent appeal at face value. In practice Disease line work wonders in a battle that lasts a while. When over-stacking DoTs (7 or 8 dots), I usually always open with Darkness, then 2 disease, then 3 (or 2) fire and 1 (or 2) poison and possibly 1 curse. Gives a new meaning to a death sentence on timer.
