Don't quite understand why the lower level soothe spell lowers their aggressiveness for 2:30 and calm only lowers the aggressiveness for 42 sec. Is this right?

Just like the only dumb question is one not asked, the only stupid spell is one not used - if you don't know how to use it then of course you'll think it's stupid. Learn what you can do, not what you think you can do - push the limits.
