65 druid on TLP server

Spent a lot of DKP on Orb of Clinging Death from PoTime raid which provides clicky magic dot, Swarming Death, 432 damage per tick, 9 ticks.

Also spent a lot of DKP on Enchanted Crystal of the Synarcana, nervously hoping it works on clicky magic dots.

Test:

1. Clicked the dot onto a mob without the augment equipped. Spell info says does between 432 and 438 damage per tick for this dot. Not sure where the 438 comes from since the dot did exactly 432 damage for 22 ticks (2 casts.)

2. Equipped the augment and then clicked the dot onto the same type mob, same level, etc. Damage averaged over another 22 ticks was 507 per tick, an increase of 17.4%. Yeah, I get that it's not 40% because the spell info says "1% to 40% so there is a RNG effect per tick. High damage was 591, a boost of 36.8%. Low was 440, which is about a 2% boost. Every tick was boosted by something.

No complaints here. The mana-free clicky for druid's best dot at 65 is godly and this damage enhancement is godly as well.

Also using gear with Timeburn effect, which extends dots by 20%. So I get 11 ticks instead of 9 ticks out of every click.

As any damage caster realizes, nothing beats mana-free damage. Except for extended enhanced mana-free damage! If you have a reasonable shot at acquiring this focus, obviously I strongly recommend it.

You're absolutely correct, DaedeluxMordzinn.

Some people have thought that the "10% reduction" means that...
First Level above Cap : 40 x .9 = 36
Second Level above Cap: 36 x .9 = 32.4
...and so on.

This is incorrect.

The 10% reduction is not a progression; it's fixed. So, if the first level above cap is -10%, second level is -20%...not 10% off whatever percentage resulted from the first -10%. Thus...
First Level above Cap : 40 x .9 = 36
Second Level above Cap: 40 x .8 = 32
...and so on.

Almost without fail, whatever bonus a Focus item provides will be completely lost by the 10th level above the stated cap. Now, there are a few items which state they lose only 5% per level above cap...but I cannot for the life of me understand why the coders would make things so difficult by playing mix-and-match with the formulas like that.

(Of course, just because it isn't very neat or orderly, it doesn't follow that it isn't true; the guys at SOE aren't exactly paragons of logic, are they?)

10% per level over cap

Just found this on Semanna's - execellent resource btw:

"Burning effect is 40/67/10, that means 40% up to level 67, minus 10% per level after that (BTW Sam, it would be nice if you could add this info on you already very nice focus page).

So IMHO it means 40% for 67, 36% for 68, 32% for 69, 28% for 70. "

Reduction per level

Does lose 10% per level over cap mean a level 71 spell with this focus will have 0% boosted?

Or does it mean that you lose 10% of the total bonus per level of spell over cap?
NPC focus

I'm guessing this focus effect applies to a NPC directly and not an item.
ever seen this?
