I followed the receipe for this and it resulted in a spell called "Direction":
Which is a level 66 Paladin Spell. Has anyone a better receipe?

Pally Virtue
# Aug 22 2005 at 9:55 PM Rating: Decent
Worked my butt off to get this spell. Tried casting it on myself when I had PoTC on and it wouldn't stick. Clicked off PoTC, cast this then tried symbol of Marzin which wouldn't stick. I get better HP/Mana regen with PoTC and my own AC/HP buffs. With Heroism/SoWords/SoMarzin I have 320 more HP and 2 more AC. The only advantage to this is the one buff slot instead of three. Haven't found anyone under 40th level to try and cast it on so don't know if there is a level limit but suspect there is.

This is not Pally Virtue, but Pally Temp. Guidance is the next one up in this line and is actually more of a Pallly Aegolism than Virtue. I use this mostly to buff guildies when clerics are not availeable. Or as you mention when I am limited to one open buff slot.

Austerity and Takish ldon pts.
# May 22 2005 at 10:56 PM Rating: Decent
1. Cant you get Takish points by doing ldon's in S. Ro as well? I saw on a website that said they were available there as well.

2. I have heard that to get to 410 pts for this spell its like 19 successes. I am lvl 51 and only receive 13 pts/ ldon. Is this lower than average for some reason? I noticed high risk at my lvl yields only 18pts. I think it would take a lot more than 19 ldons at 13 pts per to rack up enought pts.

Am i missing something here? Is there a reason I could be earning less pts/ ldon because of a low stat, etc.?

Thanks for anyone who could help.

# Aug 18 2005 at 2:02 PM Rating: Decent
The higher your level, the more points you get. Also, the average lvl for your group may affect how many points you get. So whoever you saw that said 19 successess is probably a higher level than you.

I currently get around 22 points per success at lvl 56 on a normal difficulty adven.

This spell is incredibly worthwhile. Grant it, it took me over 20 adventures to get it( and created a great disdain of NRo Advents) but it was worth it. There are several times while grouping that you get debuffed. And I rarely group with a cleric. Always seems to be druids. Since this spell stacks with druid spells (protection of the glades/cabbage) it isnt too shabby of a buff. The one thing I do recomend, however, is just to buy the single dose, not the group. Yes the difference is a lot of mana, but trust me it is far more worth to single cast on everyone including pets, then it is to group cast on pets. There are only 2 negative things about the spell. The duration sucks, and no one knows what Austerity is. I have to ooc saying its a pally temp. If you dont want it, fine dont get it. But dont know it till you tried it.
RE: Worthwhile spell
# Mar 29 2006 at 10:19 PM Rating: Decent
as you get higher in levels (granted you wont use it as much) the pets can all use group buffs at the same time, in that case having the group will be alot less mana.

I think it is a good spell whem farming for gems in dulak.. I hate foward an back through zones just to get virtue or temp cast upon me. I'd rather to be able to cast upon my self.

You might be looking at your overall points. You have to have at least 410 Takish points. Or, if you've spent more than 410 points in North Ro before, your total points will work.

Yes this spell could have its uses, but never can you convince me its worth 410 dungeon points, if it were a vendor bought spell sure i'd get it, but it just isnt useful enough to purchase it. Duration is only an hour an it costs me a dot...better of getting virtue and if it happens to be debuffed i will just do symbol combo buffs. Course, i more or less never hunt with out a cleric so not really an issue

Austerity - Not with the effort
# Nov 01 2003 at 3:57 AM Rating: Default
Ok, this spell is kind of a waste.

I just purchased the spell tonight. 410pts from North Ro adventure merchant.

The spell states it consumes 2 dots, it lies, it only consumes 1 dot.

Now, here it the part where SOE sticks it to ya, it isn't castable on any level like temperance! So don't plan on making any cash with this spell, or helping low levels out, or whatever.

Its a 46+ only spell with a nerfed durration. Considering on any given day, at any given hour a level 46 can donate for a 2 hour virtue in PoK, this spell has EXTREMELY little use.

I mean, how often are you going to group 46+ without being buffed or having a cleric around?

Thanks for wasting my time, SOE.

Quite frequently. Clerics are very hard to find sometimes, even if you are guilded. This often leaves you in the fall back position of having to bring a druid or shammy as your healer. Yes, you can get V before you go in sometimes, but factor in dispells, the occasional death, or adventure outlasts the buff for some reason (i.e. long group build up time), this spell can be very handy.

True. had a LDOON group last night 50 - 55. my pally being the highest at 55 and our cleric didn't even have temp. That majorly peed me off. Austerity good to have :)

So, you never solo? You would rather pay fer V when you can buff yerself? I have been in MANY a LDoN group with no cleric...this would be nice...so yeah, it's not always about makin cash with spells, it's about having something we need, and at that, Paly's aren't clerics, you not gonna get an uber buff like Aego or V.../sigh, some peeps...

we do have an aego/virtue buff.. although it is lvl 65... Guidance and uses on dot (supposedly) i havent got it yet.. it is 650 adv. points from Butcherblock. Having got Austerity recently and running into a chain of dispellers in PoH... i will do a few BB ldons for this.
RE: Austerity - Not worth the effort
# Nov 30 2003 at 3:39 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, at level 61, I don't ever solo with my Pal. While it is possible, it is a slow painful experience. And what is the point of soloing in a MMPORG?

As fas as adventures, I always get fresh buffs before starting a group. It is rare that a Virtue will wear off before the adventure is completed.

I stand by my comment, the spell isn't worth the effort spent. For those rare occasions I'm exping without better buffs, the difference between Austerity and Reso+Symbol+SoW isn't going to make much difference.
RE: Austerity - Not worth the effort
# Jan 13 2004 at 4:20 AM Rating: Decent
Never been debuffed, eh?
Lucky you. I would not mind having this spell in my inventory...

Not to mention, you can help out your cleric by assisting him with buffing, (especially in the middle of an Ldon where your cleric may not have time to med). your not always gonna have a 60+ level cleric in your group, and he may not have Group Temperance

Not saying this the End all be all of spells for Pallies....but it is a Nice addition, and can prove useful. The fact that you seem more concerned with earning cash for buffs....

If there is ever a death, by in your LDON, this spell will help. The Cleric is LOM so they can't cast Temp or V on the toon, so you toss this on them for the rest of the adv, or until the cleric can cast on them. It keeps them buffed and the cleric doesn't waist mana, also, there have been many times where i couldn't find a V or my V dropped during the adventure, why bother the cleric for a temp causing him to waist mana, when you can cast this. The timing is set to work with the time of an adventure, It's not a money making spell in the least, but at the same time, it a helper spell, basicly, the continues to redefine a Paladin, as a warrior cleric, at this level we shouldn't have something as powerful as temp, we should have something to support the cleric if needed, and this is that spell.

Think I recall that this will cost 2 dots to cast and only last for an hour. Not worth it for me, when I can pay just a little more than that and get an extended Virtue cast on me.

Just read one of the developer chats about LDoN (instead of hitting enter over and over on the congestion of the login servers... LOVE EXPANSION DAY).

Anyway I got one important bit out of that log that I had not heard before.

Casters will get 8 new spells each, Hybrids 5.
All new spells will be ADVENTURE POINTS PURCHASED.

Hope this helps.
Where can we find this spell?

Is it not loaded in the game yet? Is it goingto roll out when LDoN comes out next month?

LOL...Does anybody even know..heh
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 16 2003 at 5:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Temperance for pallys, sucks a little, i think pallys should get complete heal at 65. ANYHOW this spell is being given at WAY too low level. for this good of a buff, it should be well over level 60 to attain.
RE: Temperance for pallys?
# Sep 02 2003 at 3:33 AM Rating: Default
Before you get carried away with saying it's given at too low a level, I would like to point out a couple things.

First, you don't know how hard the associated quest might be to complete.

Second, Temperence will still be a much more valuable spell because of the life of the buff. Austerity only lasts one hour and Temperence lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes. It will not take away from the value of the cleric. In fact, it will help to save the cleric mana on buffs during raids and groups where the paly isn't using much of his own.

Third, you have to consider what buffs that you can buff yourself with that this spell will cancell out. If it is like Temperence, then you cannot stack your Armor of Faith, Valor, Symbol of Pinzarnm and Divine Glory spells. The total that these 4 spells alone give you at level 55 is 657hp and 38ac. Technicaly, this isn't realy an added 800hp and 48ac but an added 143hp and 10ac AND you will have to buy a 10 plat peridot for each and every cast. This is why, as a 53 paly, I never pay for a Temperence. It's great for many classes, but for a paly that is 49+, the added bonus is not worth the plat.

Make no mistake though! When I hit 55, I will make every effort to get this spell. I seriously doubt though that it will be of much value in PoK if there is a cleric that is level 44+ that can cast Temperence.

Just an edit here to interject another point. You said it shouldn't be given till level 60. Here is the current buffs you have at level 60:
Symblol of Naltron: 525hp
Resolution: 250hp 16ac
Shield of Words: 31ac
Brell's Mountainous Barrier: 225hp

That works out for a total of 1000hp and 47ac. You lose 1ac (which isn't worth mentioning) and gain 200hp. By the time you get to level 60, Austerity will be an outdated spell.

RE: Temperance for pallys?

I agree that at 60 this wouldn't be use over individual cleric line spells we palys can cast then (but only because I'll get an Aego or Virtue from some nice cleric). You made one mistake in your calculation though, Brells stacks with all cleric line spells, so the HP calc at 60 would be 775 vs 800 (brells adding 225 in either case).

What I don't get is why these all in one spells aren't mixed in after individual buffs bring you to these stats. Or why the all in ones are not slightly lower in stats for their level of casting and you choose them over the singles to allow room for other buffs. I liked the idea of being able to buff myself better then some lower season cleric and his silly temp when I reached 60 (when solo the number of buff slots isn't an issue)... now I can do equal them at 55 and lose a reason to head for 60?

Never the less I'll love it when I get it and see how it works into my normal killing. Oh yes and the post up there about battle clerics and healer palys is cleary an option. Our usual cleric is normally in the melee procing like made on low DB undead with his summoned hammer and I'm doing quite a bit of my own healing (got to burn KEI somehow).
RE: Temperance for pallys?
# Sep 02 2003 at 8:00 PM Rating: Default
You're right about the Brell's, I forgot the group versions of this line of spells will stack. I'ts the single target versions that won't (Divine Vigor, Divine Glory, Divine Strength). However, I still don't think that it is given too early. If you consider the level differences between cleric/paly spells, level 55 seems about right. For example, clerics get 90% rez at level 49. Paly's get it at 59. 10 level difference. Clerics get Temperence at level 44, paly's will get Austerity at 55. 11 levels. Also, clerics get Resist magic and 75% rez at 44. Paly's get them at 55. They are remaining true to the level differences between cleric and paly spell levels.

Yeah, I suppose the same thing goes for clerics where the temp/aego/virtue line are more replacements for the old 1x3 setup they had to do. On the other there are still steps in the cleric progression where the singles add up to you being better buffed between their temp and aego at least I know. I don't think Palys will have that option to play with after 55, no?

Hehe, oh and we're closer to agreement on the pink heart line but I'd still like to clarify, Divine line and Brells line do not stack with eachother but either or will stack with all others from the cleric line. Basically there are 4 HP/AC buffs we paly cast (3 from the cleric line)
1. HP/AC like hero bond
2. AC like shield of words
3. HP Symbols
4. HP single (divine...) or group (brells...) Paly only

The first 3 are combined in the Temperance line and #4 stacks regardless of how you get the first 3.

If you dont think that it would be useful for pallies to have this spell then you must be crazy. I for one would love to get this spell and Its not given at too low a level.. if a cleric gets temperance at 44 then a pally getting it at 55 is by no means to low a level. The only people I can imagine thinking like this cant possibly be pallies themselves to say "Oh I was given this spell at too low a level."
