I read the above info and all the posts here. I left this website thinking this quest is gonna be cake. I mean really it sounds easy enough. I went to POK bought a TP to Stonebrunt and ran to Gulf of Gunthak. About 6 hours, and 2 levels later I had the spell Temperance.

My words of advice for new questers:

1. Download the maps from the cartography section of EQ Atlas. It makes things much easier.
2. Definatley need the invis and hope it doesnt break and if it does run like hell.
3. Erudite spirirt popped at Loc neg 840, neg 675 Ph was a savage skeleton.

I camped the erudite spirit for approx. 3 hours the night before killing everything with no luck and then for about 3 hours the next morning killing just ph and surrounding savage skeles. I don't know if there is a connection or not but you dont have to kill everything just the PH. She popped at 12:25 PM EST. Noone was in gunthak. The entire beach was full of mobs. I killed just the PH and the 2 skeletons near it. The spell did NOT drop to the ground. (I was told it would) I have heard many people say that they killed the PH once and then she spawned *shrug* i think its just luck

All of this information is correct EXCEPT the place holders part. The place where the erudite spawns IS (LOC -840, -675) but you just have to kill the skelly's that pop there until she shows up. Not that hard, this is the SECOND time I have done it successfully.

I completed this today, I HIGHLY recommend this quest to any 39+ Cleric, very easy. I had the help of a 61 wizard (thnx Pickame!) and 65 cleric, but you could do this with any balanced 40s group. (Note everyone in group irregardless of level gets xp and AWESOME LOOT)

Someone went before me and provided most of the info, I prefer more detailed directions so I have included the following:

1. PREPARATION - This requires the LoY expansion. Get your Buffs, SoE or SOW + Levitate at minimum. While putting your group together either get a wizard or druid or pay for PORT and/or TL via either Wizard of Druid to STONE BRUNT (both port to same location)

2. Port in is safe, FACE EAST run along coast and down to dock, run to double doors on boat and CLICK on them to zone into Gunthak.

3. Once you zone into Gunthak you should be able to see the lighthouse straight in front of you.[This is a neutral zone, you can sell to vendors or buy food and water inside lighthouse, there is a bank here as well & this is where you buy the drogs.]

You should still be on boat, with fresh levitate and SOW, FACE SOUTH now run due south across the water. If you do this from the door of the boat you may hit the black rock cliffs. Stear a little left just enough to clear the rock.

When you get close to Gunthak beach INVIS your group. [note: remind your group to clear all forage buttons and combat buttons activated by directional arrows, yeah we had someone disable his invis by forgetting] Stick to right side of zone, ship wreck wall is on right HUG THE WALL if your invis fails KEEP RUNNING DO NOT STOP you are going to end up bringing a train of about (no kidding) 40-60 mobs to the dulak zone. This is not a big issue but be courteous and shout the warning.

AS you hug the right side of zone continue to head SOUTH until you see the cave entrance, always, always stick to all right veins in the cave. Just keep running you will see a bunch of mobs just keep going stick to the right the cave opens up for a minute and you continue to run SOUTH thru the ogre town. You will see a Canyon guarded by two ogres on either side of Canyon. Keep heading SOUTH. You will zone into dulak.

4. Once you zone into DULAK, if no one has trained it from the other side, it should be clear and safe just inside. Wait for all members to zone. The canyon is lined with DE Scouts the pathing is great, they run from their post to the middle of the canyon and then at you. Now you have two options, I went back after getting the spell and used both methods. Refresh your invis and run absolutely straight ahead to docks straight ahead of you. (NOTE: some of the Ogres see invis) when you get to the docks there are wharf rats, they conned indifferent to me, yes after dropping invis, they give xp but after all the time spent there they did not drop ANY loot at all, so my rec...avoid them. Crewman, guards and engineers on docks are all fair game. At level 43 the majority conned dark blue to me with a few yellows. They conned blue to the 61 wizard too. The crewman ON BOATS dropped "A DarkWater Emblem" in 15-20 minutes on three different ships. You can always do a shout out and ask anyone in zone to send a tell if they get/see one. They can not be sold nor used on any other quest.

5. Once you get "A Deepwater Emblem" take it and your group back to gunthak. Go back by the lighthouse you will see an ERUDITE PALLADIN named Millius Darkwater.

Now is where I skip the bull, you can read the story if you like but this is the min. required:

YOU: HAIL MILLIUS DARKWATER
npc: whatever...

YOU: WHAT PLACE?
npc: whatever...

YOU: WHAT KNIGHTS?
npc: whatever...

YOU: GIVE "A DEEPWATER EMBLEM"
npc: gives you "ALINA'S EMBLEM"
(note: lookes exactly like "a deepwater emblem")

6. Go down to the boat by lighthouse, INVIS GROUP, head DUE SOUTH back to Gunthak Beach. This time when you get to the beach, look for "a FEMALE ERUDITE SPIRIT" (note: male spirit is for Pally quest) you could give her the emblem and RECEIVE your temp spell and be done just like that (no fighting). "IF" the female spirit is not there start killing everything on the beach area, all the way back to the rock wall. The wizard swarm kited. The mobs on the beach are mostly DEAD skellys, dead ogres and trolls, some scorpions and dead mosquitos, etc could be a place holder for the spirits. If the male spirit pops, KILL IT, good xp, no loot and no faction hit.

NOTE: I found the female spirit @ -1100, -1010. But if you read the whole thread you can see the spirit could pop anywhere on the beach.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I do NOT know how you get back up to the boat to get back if you do not have levitate, so make sure you FLY!!! Hope this helps.

Yes, the quest is completable by a dark elf; I am one.

You don't have to mess with all the skelly's. Just kill the placeholder and she will pop. Took me two hours of camping.
The underwaters...
# Jan 07 2004 at 8:51 AM Rating: Decent
I am not sure that i will agree with the guy who said that killin the underwater stuff isn't important.....

I personally was here for 4 hours with only killin the PH....then...with a wild hair in place, i killed the underwaters...all 3 of em...and the hooker popped....that easy. So just take the advice of one who spent way to much time in Gunthak...kill the underwaters.
Done in 20 minutes
# Dec 27 2003 at 1:12 PM Rating: Default

The reason I am putting my 2cp in on this is not to gloat because I got this done in 20 minutes but because I went to the beach in Gunthak first to see if anyone was camping the PH for the female spirit. There was one group on the beach but they were experience hunting and not near the spirit spawn.

I noticed the discussion about killing the skellies at the underwater boat so I went and smacked them both and decided to head to Dulak to get the emblem. As I ran past the spawn point for the spirit, both the Male AND Female Spirit were spawned. So, maybe the underwater skellies make a difference but maybe it was the group fighting down near the shore.

Anyways, I ran to Dulak and shouted Virtue and 200pp for the emblem. It dropped 3 minutes later on 2nd boat and I looted, donated, virtue'd and gated back to Gunthak. I ran to the spirit and now instead of just casting Virtue and Aego in PoK for donations, I can do them all. It nearly doubled my donations.

I had planned on spending up to 8 hours working on this quest. Instead of working on a boring quest I spent 2 hours in PoK and made a couple thousand plat.

Thanks to whoever said kill the underwater skellies!!!

This was an easy quest. I used cloudy potions to get to dulak and sat on dock by stormwave(safe spot). I let it be known i needed a deepwater emblem and roughly 20 minutes later one drops. I run back to GoG zone and see millius. Male spirit is up I kill it with alt and poof instant pop of female spirit. Hand in emblem and bam temperance spell. Locations for male and female spirits are correct. Emblem drops off all engineers scrubbers and fisherman on the piers as does the pali neck drop which is by far more rare. Clearing beach at/near spirit can be done easily by 40s group.

WOOT!! got the spell this morning (after being up all night)! After camping the Stormwave ship in Dulak for about 4 hours, a Deepwater Emblem was announced over ooc (much to my delight). Then it was back to talk to Millius Darkwater. After reading the posts on here I decided what could it hurt to do some mass murder on the skellies? And sure enough the female erudite spirit spawned after the first time I killed the place holder! On a personal note I would like to say thank you to Allakhazam and to all the people who posted messages here, you have made my journey a plesent one. GL and good hunting to all.

Kill one PH and got the spirit. PH is right next to the boat on the left hand side. PH is a skelly.

The whole quest took about 45min.

Erudite Spirit
# May 14 2003 at 10:34 AM Rating: Decent
My 49 cleric and a 60th ranger located an emblem shortly after we arrived at Dulak Harbor, but the mobs were tough, had huge aggro, and there were a lot of them.

Best bet might be to bring a bunch of plat and just /ooc until you find one to loot. Stay invis'd and pay for one.

We created some nice trains running through the cavern to and from Dulak as there are both undead and regular mobs littering the area. Come prepared.

Camped for the Erudite Spirit for a loonnngggg time with no luck. We killed the PH over and over again with no luck at all. Neither the male nor the female spawned in over 1 hour 30 minutes of killing and tracking.

Back at it tomorrow... this quest sucks.
Just Finished!
# May 04 2003 at 3:15 PM Rating: Decent
I just finished this quest! Good advice throughout, but is easier than most post have said. The Emblem is an common to uncommon drop on any of the ships, fight on the easier ones for an easier go at it. I was on the Dandolak when I got mine, there were many dropping that night so maybe a patch made them drop more often. Go back to the lighthouse and turn back in the emblem and receive the ring. As for the female erudite spirit, and it must be a female! Go to the loc that was given and just camp that spot, I killed the PH (skeletal sailor next to the ship) about 7 times and she finally spawned, I did not have to kill anything else in the zone to make her spawn. Then simply give her the ring! I hope this helps and cuts down the amount of time it takes you to finish the quest! Good Luck.

Thank you for the info. I have read a ton of posts that stae you must kill all undead in the area to get her to spawn. Some have even said that you must not camp her spawn place or she won't show. Sionce you have verified that I only need to kill off the one skelly it saves me time.
Spawning Female Erudite Ghost
# Mar 28 2003 at 1:57 AM Rating: Default
Pretty much as been stated before to spawn the female ghost to turn in the ring for the spell Temperance.

Kill whatever spawns at the underwater ship (LOC -22, -520) it spawns every 20 minutes.

23 minutes after you kill the mob in the underwater ship, the female erudite ghost or its place-holder will spawn (LOC -840, -675)

If PH, kill it and then head back to kill the mob at the underwater ship again. Keep repeating until female ghost spawns.

I talked to several Clerics in the last few days, and some reported getting the Deepwater Emblem off the beach in Gunthak from mobs with sailor or crew member in their names, like Savage Skeletal Sailor. There's a bunch of those in the SE corner of the beach and since they are undead, should be easier for a Cleric. May take more kills but much easier for a level 44-45 Cleric than having a pal go to the ships with you.

Deepwater Emblem
# Mar 04 2003 at 6:50 AM Rating: Decent
We went in tonight with a small guild group and cleared 4 of the 5 ships. These ships do definitly go up in difficulty starting off with light blues to 58 on first and second ship, turn too dark blue to 58 by third ship and by the fourth ship it was almost a wipe of a 58 Necro, a 50 Cleric, 53 Beast, 51 Druid, 52 Shadow Knight. Nobody died and it wouldn't have been that hard except we tore up the first 3 ships so easy that the Beastlord just goes chargeing onto the 4th ship and Draws emediate agro from 4 Mobs with the HPs and punch of a Gorgul Packlok, the named Giant in Burning wood. I was duel boxing the Necro and Cleric, so it was a little hard too handle mob control when the Necro is getting the H beat out of him and the Cleric is getting beat at same time while he tries to keep everybody alive.

But thats off topic. Anyhow, the emblem dropped on all 3 of the first ships, so there is no point in going to the harder ships if your just after the emblem. I have seen it drop 7 times now on the first ship, the easiest, the Stormwave I believe it is, which a Necro and Cleric duo or something similiar in their 50's could handle. If your a 44 Cleric you could still do it with a C3 and a post 50ish strong pet class friend, Necro, Beast, Mage, or a couple of good Melee's with you. This deepwater emblem dropped twice on the single clearing of the first ship and 5 times total from clearing ships 1 to 3 one time each. So yes, its random. You might get a drop off a fisherman before you even get too the ship, you might get a drop on the first clearing of the crew. It might take half a dozen clearings of the ship. But it does drop on every one of the first 4 ships. I saw it tonight. I assume it drops off the fifth ship also, we didn't get too the fifth one, that comes tonight.
Deepwater Emblem?
# Mar 02 2003 at 6:49 AM Rating: Decent
Someone has suggested that the Deepwater Emblem might drop in Gunthak too. Can anyone confirm this? If so, which mob drops it?

This is an awful hard quest for a 44 cleric to complete which seems unfair considering how easy my 44 Ranger quest was.

I've been camping the deepwater emblem for three nights running, taken my cleric from almost 46 to almost two bubbles into 47 so far. No emblem.

Anyone else have a similar experience? I'm camping the crew of the stormwave, where I have been told it definitely drops.

My brother and I camped the Stormwave today and got the emblem on the third cleaning out of the ship. It was a simple task for a 52 necro/cleric combo. :) Guess it's just random...

I did this quest yesterday. Everything went perfect until it came time give the spirit the ring. I got to the loc and another grp had it camped, they had been there 2 hours, no pop. They gave up and handed me the camp, I waiting 3 hours no pop. Petitioned a GM and the said it was working fine. There maybe a triger actually to getting her to pop. I ended up going to a shipwreck under the water (the one with the mermaid)and killed the skellie sailor guy. My friend sat on shore and killed the one at the loc...Viola! It could be that both have to be killed. The one at the underwater shipwreck agros on everything that runs past so it gets killed all the time. Then kill the second and she pops? I could be wrong..but between me and another grp we camped it a total of 5 hours with no pop. As soon as the underwater and the PH were killed (which both spawn at the same time)she showed up. This is only speculation..I might be wrong!

When I first arrived a spirit was up and I handed the ring in and nothing. It apparently was the male spirit. Killed him then tried the trigger for over an hour and nothing.I took the idea of the trigger and started killin the ph and the skellie underwater in the boat and couldn't get anything going.
The emblem seemed to drop kinda regular on the ship in Dulak so I'll be going back to try again. But I do have a question, when the ring is handed in does the female spirit despawn? It would be nice to be able to have several peeps hand in at once.

Got the Spell - Woot
# Mar 01 2003 at 5:33 AM Rating: Excellent
Okay, got the spell. The Arlessa Dae'monei post is 100 percent correct except for the item being a Deepwater Emblem, not a Deepwater Symbol, as pointed out in another thread below Arlessa.

I duel boxed this easy with a 58 Necro and my 50 Cleric. The Crewmen on the ships in Harbor of Dulak are light blue too 58 and I would say can do about twice the damage of the average Sea Fury Cyclops, that is also light blue to 58 and have about same hps as the Fury's do.

Only real problem I had was finding the zone in too the Harbor of Dulak from the starting zone in Gulf of Gunthak which is thru the door on the boat down by the shore in old Stonebrundt zone.

If your going too try for the crewmen on the boats, take a team that adds up too at least as much punch as a 58 Necro and 50 Cleric combo and you will have no problems. Have an Inviser with you, or buy invis potions off the vendor in the lighthouse, about 11 plat ea. if your party can't invis everyone, like my Necro can't invis my Cleric.

Millius Darkwater is standing near the water and close too lighthouse. The direction he is facing into until you hail him, is the direction too the beach with the wrecked ships, where the Erudite Spawns for your final turn in. It is also the direction too the cavern you will have too go thru too get too the Harbor of Dulak and the ships crewmen. Once you hit the beach with the wrecked ships, head off too the right, trying to avoid the scores of undead around the ships until you hit the wall and follow the wall until you see a large cave opening. Be sowed, invised, levitated, see invis, dmf or whatever for long run thru this cavern. Keep too the right of cavern the whole way, make no turns and when you exit there will be a Pirate town where everything there will attack you if it can see you. If you ran thru that cavern and weren't invised, or it broke early, you will be pulling a train a mile long by the time you hit the town. Just keep running or a swarm of greens is going to kill you.

When you get too the pirate town, basicaly keep going straight across it from cavern until your thru the town and hit the back wall. There you will find another opening, which is your zone in point too the Harbor of Dulak.

Once you zone into Harbor of Dulak, you head in a couple hundred feet, take the first right turn street and that takes you too the ships. There are a load of Scouts, Pirates, Brigands, Druken Pirates, and DB too 58 Harbor Guards to fight if your going too fight your way too the ship boarding ramps. I suggest just going keep going Invis, avoid the fights and head straight for the ships if you can. Pick a ship too kill crewmen off of, board it up the ramps, cause your levitation broke as soon as you entered the zone. Can't levitate or DMF in this zone. Anyhow, fight or invis your way too boarding a ship, set up a camp pulling spot near the railing and the stairs too the upper deck and start pulling and killing crewmen. Took me a couple of hours, clearing the whole crew about 6 times, but got the emblem and enough vendor trash and some good gems too fill dozens of packs.

Then I took the lazy mans way out, gated my Necro and Cleric back too Nexus instead of the long run invis back thru two nasty towns and that cavern again, sold off the vendor trash, headed back too Gulf of Gunthak and the light house, turned the emblem in too Millius Darkwater, got the Alina's ring from him, headed over too the co-ordinates on the ship wreck beach, killed the Savage Skeletal Sailor PH, waited about 20 mins, the Erudite spawned, handed her the ring and I got the spell.

Good luck, hope this info helps some in addition too the excellent post down below by Arlessa Dae'monei and all that hard and original work that was done there. I have you too thank for this excellent spell.

Oh, and by the way. This spell is indeed a mini Aego as the other posts say. My 50 Cleric has top level HP and AC spells. Symbol of Naltron, Resolution, Shield of Words and Armor of the Faithful. This spell wipes out symbol, Words, Resolution, leaving personal Armor Buff on Cleric and Necro only. The gain here for me against useing these other spells is only 25 hps, no AC change. Not much on the surface, but also, no reagent use, i.e. peridots and allot longer lasting then the other buffs. The spell cost 550 mana too cast, versus 735 mana too cast the other 3 spells it takes the place of. The spell last 1 hour and 40 minutes, much longer then symbols, and Shield of Words and Resolution. So your not going to gain much hps at level 50 and no AC gain at all, but just think of all those peridots and mana your gonna save on a long lasting spell versus all those short term rebuffs.

Sorry about how long this post is, but no info here on the zone and moving around a blank zone with no map and cartography system not working here. Hopes it helps along with all the hard work Arlessa did solving this for us and posting it here.

Your right. I came back here too Post that it does cost a Peridot. Found that out as soon as the Cleric ran out of Peridots. Oh well, have too settle for a Peridot on Temperance for an hour and 40 mins versus a symbol of Naltron that I never even looked up the time duration, but boy is it short compared too this spell. At that too the mana cost difference on casting this one spell versus 3 spells and time duration on them versus temperance and its still sweet. And still save you a pile of peridots.
