Why?
# May 19 2005 at 12:41 PM Rating: Decent
Why would you ever use this spell? Greater healing is 350 hp heal and only costs 115 mana to cast. You can almost cast two of those for the price of this one.
RE: Why?
# Mar 22 2006 at 3:18 AM Rating: Decent
Combine this spell with Ethereal Cleansing and Greater Healing, and you have quite a bit of quick cast healing power, at least with this spell and EC. 410+350+500=1260... you do the math, and all of this in about 15 seconds tops? Spell is definatly worth it when you're in a solo battle, or even in a group when you can turn to the tank or whoever you are with and hit them with all 3 of these spells. And recast time is quick, so at those times when the cleric runs outta mana, or is slow to the punch. Chain cast the heals. Most people think of these spells only by themselves, but the point of the spells being like they are, because if they were all quick and healed mega hp's, then it would unbalance the game... just think 3 heals and you're completly healed, would that make the game fair? (oh and if you can't get the spells cast quick, i.e. interruptions, then you really need to learn the pally's strengths, stun stun stun, use the stun time to cast these spells in succession. The great thing about it, you can do this over and over). Anyway, I love this spell, has made solo'ing a bit less treacherous in the long run. Oh and don't forget LOH on top of this and with the improved loh's ... well you get the picture.

just did the second part of this tonight at 52.
Invised up to the turn in, he was just past the bridge after you take the right, pacy'd the luggald beside him, did the turn in, rooted him, reinvised and ran. I got almost to the zoneline before the root broke so no train, no death and a 410 point quick heal for me:) was all good.

You do not need a group, be uber, or any help at all to do this. Just have to know where to go, a few cloudy potions (I used 2, might be a good idea to have extras just incase of an untimely fade) and know where to run and you'll have your lvl 52 quick heal at lvl 52.

Yep this worked like a champ for me as well. No group needed. Soloing was easy

I bought 4 invis potions and took a pull off of my SoW potion

Invised at beginning of Gunthak caves and made it all the way to the turn in without it dropping off WOW

Made the first right once on the octopus looking bridge and there he was at the bottom of cave.

I didn't need to Pacify the guard directly beside him. The guard moved down into another room off to the left of the spirit.

Turned in the glowing skull necklace while still invised and he gave me the spell and immediately aggroed on me dropping invis.

I placed the spell he gave me in my inventory and rooted him. Once I was out of his striking distance I reinvsed and took off again.

I was halfway to Gunthak before the root broke but I'm sure I was far enough away he didn't even come for me. The only damage I took the entire time were the 2 or 3 hits from the spirit when he aggroed on me. Not a scratch otherwise.

Can a 65 pally solo all the LoY spell quests?
No Problem

Just finished Light of Life today. I have no doubt a 65 Pally can solo both Ethereal Cleansing and this one. The post below talks about using a few Invis potions but I wouldn't think it necessary at your level. You'll be able to slaughter the luggalds in the way. Nothing is bigger than 50. The only problem is the rarity of the initial drop and spawns... (which is nothing new to EverQuesters).

Take 2 or 3 invis potions with you which you can purchase at the lighthouse in Gunthak either before or after you do the turn in to the first ghost in Gunthak. Zone into Dulak, Use SENSE THE DEAD - If Chester is up it will point you at him, as he is the only undead mob in the whole zone. If he is up-hit first invis potion, follow left wall till you find hidden area, keep following this tunnel till you come to the bridge. The bridge has a right turn in the middle of it, take that right,, Chester Steelrod paths in and out of the room at the end of this corridor and only stays at each halt position for approx 1 or 2 mins,, so just wait for him to path towards the bridge. As soon as he stops hand him the neclace and then take off running back out the way you came in. He and the other luggalds will be after you, so when you get a step or 2 in front of them hit your 2nd invis potion, this keeps mobs in front of you from aggroing you while you run out, they do aggro but not until Chester and his luggald buds who were aggro from the turn in catch each mob you pass. Just hit auto run and /ooc train to zone. Too easy , I did it with 2 invis potions, only self pally buffs and run 1 aa, took a total of 14% damage the whole way out from the turn in. Zoned out loaded up new spell and tried it out to heal myself up. For how easy this spell is to get, Im glad I took the time now to get it.

GREAT AGRO/HEAL
# Dec 12 2003 at 7:29 PM Rating: Decent
If your the main tank or not if the cleric or caster gets agro cast this on them, will heal them and up you on the mobs hate list pretty fast. So you heal the person and you up your hate list pretty fast :) 1.5 seconds to cast then run over and start attacking. That one way you can use this spell.
Easy Quest
# Nov 20 2003 at 11:35 AM Rating: Decent
Just got mine last night. Said to my chanter and mage buddies, "Think would could take ten seconds out of this LDoN dungeoneering to do a small quest?"
I knew where Chester was from camping Soulstripper (turns out that this was NOT a dark elf necromancer/erotic dancer. Big bummer there!) and we invisied and went into the secret Luggald tunnel.
Unfortunately, no one was camping SS, and to make matters worse, Chester seemed to sense me coming from way back and began moving towards me! I initiated the trade window but since he had passed by me and I was tagging along behind him that broke the trade contact before I could hit the button.
And for a consolation prize; the nice luggalds began to beat upon your humble narrator. So I ran (luckily, the druid that ported us there threw in a s.o.w. when he dropped us off) and zoned. When I came back, Chester had halted just before the octopus bridge on his side. This time the trade went without a hitch and he joined in on the celebratory dwarf beating. I ducked out on the party and ran for the zone with spell in my grubby little mitts.

Tip: save yourself some grief at finding the secret opening while trying to escape. Download the latest LoY cartography maps and have that map up on a close zoom-in. I got stunned and spun around a few times while trying to find the illusionary part of the wall.

Otherwise, the spell is very handy. Works almost as fast as a Lay On Hands and the recast time is equally impressive.

Ok I hate peeps always being negative (I often think they do it to sound cool or seem worldly ((Norrathly? whatever)) but I was disappointed by this spell. Don't get me wrong, it's a good spell, and well worth having but it's clearly an interim spell till you get the greater heal spell at 57. This level 52 spell only heals 110 more than our level 39 spell- insignificant when my hp is about 3.2k. The only thing its got going for it is the quick cast time. I really had my hopes up after getting the LoY 42 spell, which is an excellent spell. Most pally spells are an evolution of the spells we get at level 9; for example, Yaulp 1, 11, 111, and 1V, so I guess Verant is just being consistent. But a spell with a little more to it at 52, even something so simple if it healed a bit more, would have been nice. Good luck all.

You've completely missed the point. This is not a main heal. This is a fast heal, and a very good one at that. Its not intended to be used as a primary heal, use it when the ***** hit the rotating air moving device. Ask any healer, fast heals WILL save your bacon very often.
Kill Chester Minimum Group
# Jun 05 2003 at 4:22 PM Rating: Default
We got Chester by his bloody lonesome last night. Turns out there was a group camping the whole area from across the bridge, so it was nice to get into the fight FM and not have to deal with the wonderer that strolls down the hall. So here is the pickup group that killed chester after we burnt through most of our mana and nearly had me dead twice before the Cheal landed (oh and my LoH).
Paladin 52, 1225 AC (self)
Cleric 51
Ranger 47

Got these two together at the entrance after fighting my way to Dulak alone half the way and then thankfully having a serious SK clear the path. Couldn't have done it without the Rangers Camo to get there and all that healing, pretty damn lucky I felt.

Actually I know I was lucky to do get both spells in under 2 hours. The male euridite spirit was up right away when I got there too. Don't plan on it being this easy though as I've been on both camps before for others and not seen the spirit in 3 hours and just saw chester once after more than 3 hours. (oh and I purchased the black medalion in the bazaar to kick things off for 50pp, not sure if it is no drop on other servers, if not that is a good way to kick off the quest easy and inexpensivly)
Complete Quest
# May 01 2003 at 7:47 PM Rating: Excellent
I've yet to see it, so here's my result of doing the complete quest:

It wasn't that difficult, and I solo'd the whole thing. Keep in mind, that I had plenty of Cloudy Potions (inviso) and Kei cast on me. 10x Blood of Wolf Potion and Divine Aura memmed. ...here we go:

I camped Dulak. Roaming from dock to dock killing every boat engineer I found (gnomes or haflings---cant' keep ya straight). I'd use a CP potion, get in front of the mob, or stratigically located so I wouldn't grab additional aggro. This took me about 10 hours (broken time). After a kill with no result, heal, inviso, move to next...repeat. After dropping, I inviso'd and ran back to Millius Darkwater on the dock to do turn-in. From there, I re-inviso'd and went to Neg 1100, Neg 1100 on the beach. Should have done Inv vs Undead, as the mobs on that side are all skelly's and undead. After killing 6 green mobs on me, I sat on top of the rock and waited for the Male Eurdite Ghost to spawn (respawn is 20min). While waiting, save yourself some headache and kill the skelly mobs that spawn around the double neg 1100 area.
The Male Erudite Ghost spawned and I handed him my black skull necklace and received 1x Ethereal Cleansing spell and 1x Glowing Black Skull Necklace.
Here comes the "tricky" part....
Being solo, my strategy was to run to Chester inviso'd, pacify the mobs around him, and do my turn-in. I knew he attacks after turn-in and had no idea what he casted/meleed for, so I memmed Divine Aura. I figured I'd hit that, and run like heck to zoneline with my "train" hotkey spamming away. ...the actual account is coming...

Chester is a male ghost that spawns in the tunnels behind the hidden wall in Dulak. Once inside Dulak, follow the left wall around to the wood wall.....the secret tunnel is about 2/3 across from the left. Once inside the tunnel, follow it straight to the rock bridge....don't fall in. (I haven't, and don't know how bad your CR would be). Make a right at the "T" intersection on the bridge. You'll come up on a stairway down with an open doorway to the left. I've found Chester on those stairs, as well as the two other rooms that the stairs lead to.

Ok...so here's where plan and actual go slightly askew. In my previous 10x in that room, Chester doesn't move when you approach him. Evidently, he senses you want to do a turn in, and starts moving out of the rooms, up the stairs and down the tunnel back towards the bridge. The funny part is that he's moving past about 15 mobs in his travel... I got into the room and started chasing him with medallion in hand. The problem with this is that by him moving, I was unable to establish a safe spot to pacify the mobs and move in. Thus, I panic'd at him moving, and immediately started clicking on him with my medallion in hand. ....This nullified my inviso, and my aggro went thru the roof. When I finally got the "Give" window to pop up on Chester, I was waaay back at the bridge, with 10-15 mobs beating on me, and my health bar quickly fading to "you are out of food and water" status.
I hit GIVE just in time and got my Light of Life spell!
Immediately, I hit LoH, cast Divine Aura, and started running to the zoneline.....spamming all the way.

In hindsight, a little agonizing watching Chester on the move, but the end result is that I completed this quest solo at 52. And, can tell you all where all the loot for the 2 spell prizes are!

Chester Spawn Info
# Mar 10 2003 at 12:53 PM Rating: Decent
OK, after days of camping the caves in dulaks, I've seen chester spawn about 5 different times, and only in 2 different places.

This mob does have a PH, well, he has two...

The first is the mob that wanders up the stairs and to the edge of the bridge, and then back down the stairs. I've seen Chester spawn instead of this guy 2 times now.

Second spot is the stationary guy, in the center of the little platform between the two staircases. (Stairs are off the side fork of the bridge)

I have not seen Chester spawn in a stationary position inside the large room at bottom of second steps at all, or in one above the steps.

I hope this helps some pallies out there )

Finished this quest the other day. Spawn time was much longer than than the 1 hour I had heard. We camped him a total of about 5 hours in 2 different sittings. Chester spawned just above and to the left of the steps. We kept the entire area clear so the PH was not clear to us. The good part was that the "enraged soulstealer" spawned twice for us while we waited and kept the area clean. The two "Soulstriper" that we got were added bonuses. Camped him with 55 Druid, 59 BL, and 52 Pally. Very easy kill when he did spawn.
PH

Just wanted to confirm that the wandering mob that walks up and down the hallway is definitly the PH, killed him and on the next cycle Chester spawned in his place. Just give him the medallion and you'll get your spell. Be careful as he will attack you right after. Conned blue to me at 60 and the mobs in the pit area were split between blue and light blue.

Got this off another post with the info on how to get this spell and the one after it for those that have LoY expansion.

_________________________________________________
Post is by Lareieli on the Casters Realm web site:

Travel south over the water to the beach and
from the shore head towards the wall on your
right, follow that wall to a tunnel opening
and follow the tunnel to the first fork.
Take the short left and kill all manner of
marauders, pillagers, plunderers etc. in the
huts as listed in the previous post. Loot
a "Black Medallion" (PAL only).

Return the Black Medallion to Millius on the
lighthouse platform. He returns the
necklace to you and asks you to show it to a
spirit. A MALE "Erudite Spirit" appears
every so often (dunno the spawn time, dunno
if there's placeholders I just killed all
mobs near there except for the indifferent
Hatestorm Troll) back on the south beach,
this time along to the left wall, near the
back-most upturned boat, south of the
Hatestorm troll. Do NOT accidentally turn
the medallion in to the FEMALE Erudite that
spawns nearby, she seems to be broken and
will not return your necklace.

Turn your Black Medaillion in to him and he
gives you your first spell (Ethereal
Cleansing) and returns the Black Medaillion
again. Return to Millius and he puts runes
on the Medallion and returns it to you
again, telling you that the Spirit was not
Chester, that you need to find him.

Chester spawns in Dulak Harbor. To get to
the correct area, from the lighthouse go
back to the south beach and along the right
wall again, back to the tunnel where you
turned left to kill pillagers etc. last
time, only this time turn right and STAY
right, passing one tunnel on the left on
your way. Go straight through the town at
the end of the tunnel (will want to be
invised the whole way probably or bring a
group and do a lot of fighting) and you will
find a tunnel at the back that is the zone
line.

Zone in and then HUG the left wall, around a
few twists and turns until you pass
*through* a black boulder formation (hidden
passage). Head straight ahead down the
tunnel til you reach a "bridge". Follow the
bridge and take the first right on the
bridge. The "room" ahead of you leads down
to a rectangular pit looking area, could be
access to somewhere else, I didn't explore.

There are mobs that guard the entrance to
this room, two mobs that guard the
rectangular pit, and I don't know how many
mobs in the pit. There is also a wandering
mob that travels up and down the room
through the center, that seems to be the
place holder for Chester as he takes the
same path. I first spotted him down in the
pit and just waited, and he traveled up
towards me.

You give Chester the runed Black Medallion
and he gives you the Light of Life spell,
and then attacks you. All these mobs were
dark blue to me at 53 and dark and light
blue to my hubby's wizard at 59. Happy
spell hunting!

Or, if this is not actually live, any idea why Lucy reported that it was?
