Not that I want to dredge up an apparently old topic, but this spell is very useful and by no means gimped. It does 1350 points of damage to summoned creatures, costing 286 mana, and taking 5 sec to cast. For comparison, Summer's Flame does 1600 damage, costs 395, and takes 6.25 sec to cast. Against a summoned creature, I am casting Destroy Summoned. I save over 100 mana and cast 1.25 sec faster for only 250 points of damage less (and that is only if the mob doesnt resist Summer's Flame, which happens often enough). This spell is indispensible in Tak Ldons and other situations, especially if you do your homework ahead of time.
Why would you use this?

If you get the spell "Banishment" at a lower level, and it destroys summoned, why would you really need this when it doesn't destroy?

Because "Banishment", when cast, gives you no xp or loot from the mob. It is a special case spell that is used primarily in Justice trials and when a mob has an annoying pet that you want to get rid of fast.

Also, Banishment consumes a Star Ruby when cast, which last I checked were still 75pp each.

Banishment is no good on mobs above a certain level either (46, if I recall correctly). It is also resisted FREQUENTLY, which makes ya want to swear loudly about wasting 5 Star Rubies trying to destroy the 'portals' in the Agnarr event.

This spell is severly limited in its application, and is not signifigantly more mana efficient. It is a gimped nuke with little application and almsot no upside. It is not any less ressited than our fire nuke when the mob is debuffed. Most druids will hardly ever use this spell.

While I generally agree, there is at least one new use for this spell. The Takish-Hiz theme of LDoN is almost all summoned mobs. This spell is (barely) more efficient than winter's frost, and when you take debuffing into account, is a much better alternative to E'ci's + winter's frost or Ro's + summer's flame.

With the 90 min time limits, mana economy is at a premium as there is no time to really take a med break. So I usually just keep this one up for the low resist rates and simplicity of a single cast.
