I keep 10 Quintescence of Knowledge on me for the reason of incase I have a person in my group that can not gate out and need it. I use this ONLY as an emergency for other ppl. As for the person who said if you don't have this you are not doing your job as a mage? Bullcrap, my job as a mage is not to provide 100pp reg with a talisman for a person to port out.

I just bought this spell (unfortunately, for 1000pp, because I thought it was that important).
As of trying this spell out (5/22/05), it DOES NOT CONSUME a reagent (Quintescence of Knowledge)when you cast the spell to summon the Talisman.
However, the use of the Talisman ("Talisman Gate" 30 sec cast, gate to PoK), REQUIRES the consumption of the reagent.

I disagree 100%... that means that the person taking the hit in pp is the one that needs to gate and didnt bother buying any gate potions. I usually carry 1 or two of the QoK just in case I get a mage that is in group and can summon me one of these. If not, I just use a gate pot.

Dinged for 61 not too long ago. I turned in 13 EP's, and got 9 duplicates of this spell. Then I had 4 more MQ'ed, and got 2 of these spells. SoE is lame for having come up with the most stupid spell evAr. Not to mention it's constant conjuration when turning in EP's... Anyone need a couple spells to sell =p. I need the 61 summoned belt spell =\

This spell is dumb. Why not get the appropriate gate idol made for your diety and use that as a gate? It may not be to PoK but no matter which city your idol gates you to at least it is close to the PoK book. At least a gate idol is a one time cost and never gets used up...
For a spell that every single caster gets at a low level I think it is just stupid for gate potions or spells like this to be so costly to non-gaters.

This would be fine if you happen to be a priest class. However, the rest of the classes in the game cannot use the faithstones/spiritstones, so this is nice for them.
This item Tailsman of Return is a magi summoned item ... No rent goes when you logg off. So you will need that part each time you go out if you even want to think of gateing. The other part is a simple alchemy combine they do stack and they do stay in your bags when you log. With good cha one part is 40 pp and other is 62. They are Erudition Vine and Tanaan Ginko sold in pok by the fish pond right side upstairs. This spell is great and any magi that doesn't have this spell isn't doing there job. lol i hope those peeps have pearls for a coth...

with about 140 pottery skill anyone can make a free(if you loot the components) gate to Thurgadin(town) potion 1 charge lore, by doing the 4th shawl quest out of Thurgadin so if you want to bind somewhere outside a dungeon and you also wanna be able to get to PoK just use this potion and then run the short distance to the pok book in GD

Cool suggestion, especially if the 3rd prayer shawl can be skipped as someone else suggests, after doing the 2nd prayer shawl, with the help of someone who has done the 3rd prayer shawl, and the 4th prayer shawl doesn't have to be finished in order to get the Velium Purifier need to make the Vial of Velium Vapors that has the Thurgadin Gate effect.
However, the Vapors are Lore, and the Velium Purifier also poofs in the process. This means that you have to go to some trouble for every gate potion.
That's OK, but doesn't fit the bill for the lazy mage who wants to hop back to PoK for a KEI or somesuch from somewhere that doesn't have an easily-accessible PoK book (and then gate back to that location.)
The Talisman does that, but you have to pay >100pp to a shaman for that ability.
Most of the vendors on my server are currently asking 150pp for the reagent, some 200pp, but it can be bought for 125pp or less. This is OK if either the pp means little to you, or you're making much more than that per port.

You don't have to have done any of the shawl quests to be able to make the thurgadin Gate potion. All you need to do is say the right words to the NPC then have a good pottery skill to put it together.
I am a warrior and often carry one of these potions, and I have not done any of the shawl quest at all.

requires that reagant which is 50pp average..... its nice yes.... but costly if you wanna hand 1 out to everyone on a raid.... 50pp x 20+ pp = 1kpp lost when you coulda just wizzy or dru ported em out

This is a real bad spell, don't buy it. If you want it for an alt use the shaman potion, it isn't no rent! The cost is over 100pp and you need to get it combined for you...

WTF is wrong with you people lol. This spell is great. For example I recently went to Plane of Fear to help another guild with their CR. We only had 1 wizard to port everyone out. If I had this spell I could just hand out talismans and everyone could port out at their own convenience.
You could also design groups without a porter and include more DPS classes for zones that might require a porter to get out. 4 second cast time is better than most evac spells even.

Its 4 secs to create the talisman, plus 30 secs to use it and it requires a Quintessence of Knowledge, though it is a very good thing to have if you can't gate.
It ports you to the PoK, works for anyone, only drawback is it requires a shaman crafted reagent, which IMHO is totally stupid. Considering the item is no rent, it should just use a pearl or peridot as the reagent.

I heartily agree with Artulyn. Just requiring a gem as a reagent is much more in line with our summoning abilities.
