This spell is extremely useful on the Agnarr server while soloing or duoing as a paladin. Nearly all of the BoT named are clerics, and while this does resist sometimes, it can be used in combination with Timestone Adorned Ring to deplete their mana pools. Useful as named giants also tend to be very stun resistant and can sometimes get CH off even with Divine, Akilae, and Quellious being dumped in to them.

I see some people condemn this and say it shouldn't even be purchased. It may not be as amazing as spells like Shackles of Tunare, but this is a valid part of the paladin toolkit and has its uses where you have to deal with gating or CHing mobs.

I find this pretty funny.

Say a wizzy and a pally both had 7k manapools... It would take the pally 5250mana to drain that 7k (even more when considering mana regen) and that would take 25 minutes chain casting this. On top of that, the wizzy could just harvest back a bunch of that mana... Or you know, just nuke the **** out of you while you stand there manadraining like a ****** :P

This spell would do worse than it would actually help. Why you ask? Let's see....

PvP would be useless. There's casters out there with over 7k manapool. 70 casts and 18 seconds between recast times would be utter foolish to do. That's level 65, now casters around level 49 when Paladins recieve Thunder of Karana would have around 3k-4k manapool (approximated). You'd still have to cast a buttload of times to even cripple their mana, and you could've used that time to instead stun them and just engage in melee. Besides, you wasting 75 mana to have *a small chance* to drain 100 of theirs is dumb enough.

Oh, now you try against mobs! Have you not noticed that wizards in PoFire who run out of mana just beat the living crap out of you? They damage tanks WAY less while casting a spell you'd probably resist, some do TEN TIMES more damage doing melee over casting a nuke at you. So it's not wise to drain mana, you're just making things worse in that sense. Now, since wizards in PoFire at 65+ level, it's even more useless to cast since they would resist it about 9/10 times. Even so, if SOE hadn't nerfed the hell out of this spell, would you silence a PoFire wizard so he cannot cast and would melee, beating the crap out of the tank? It would be good in PvP at least. LOL

Ok First off on PvP this is a god spell I would call it (unlike this whole gang of ppl telling me it sucks) if I drained my mana to make a caster oom hell yea I'd do it. That leaves the caster without defense all the caster can do is melee something casters suck at while Pallies are tanks. Secondly I don't know too many raids that keep a 47 mana drain spell up and even if they do it is very reliable for one thing (take for instance the Elite Sun Revenant) this guy dots and nukes you to wipe whole raids, if you can delete some of his mana going oom all he can do is Melee saving clerics alot of mana to heal just the tanks not the casters and what not. I technically would think this spell is more beneficial then hurting you.
sigh

if a paladin tryed to drain anothers mana in pvp the time this spell actually landed he would be oom and drains 100 mana is crappy a waste of a spell

Does this spell have a use?

Ok very frankly here... No....

On PVP this spell basically does enough manadrain to uhhh cancle out another Paladin's Spell.

We all know paladin's mana is best spent on Heals other then 15 mana for Cease (for agro) and the 62 Stun. Do the math, the mana calculates into alot more HP. A paladin has no good excuse to use this spell, its not like you can cast it quickly, and NPCs often have as outrageous a Manapool as they have a Health Pool.

Basically I'm sounding very frank, but level 65 Pally here and have yet to find even a resonable excuse for this spell.

Oh yeah forgot to mention, this spell was originally ment to be a "Silence" spell which outlasted the effects of the stun. This would have stopped mobs from casting spells, and the original point of this was to basically chain it and stop a caster from casting any spells.

This was obviously looked upon as too much power for a class to weild, making PVP and PVE both drastically slanted, especially since the Silent effect didn't have a level max like the stuns do.

Oh yes, it has a use... PvP. It would be so funny to have a paladin behind a rock sucking the casters mana from nowhere while he is looking around like WTF?!?! Would be funny to cast on a caster in a fight with an NPC though...

Rarely, but yes. For the most part, it's better to load stuns to keep mobs from casting spells. But on giants and 55+ mobs, stuns/bashes don't interrupt spells. So instead, you can suck their mana using this. Granted, 100 mana isn't much, but when coupled with a chanter, it doesn't take long to suck a caster dry. Personally, I use it most on raids with big, long fights on mobs that gate (ToV comes to mind). After 3-4 casts, that extra 300-400 mana might be enough to keep a mob from gating. You never know... but what if?

PvP, I would assume. Though at 100 mana...
