Effective Casting level is a skill...just like melee classes can be better at one hand or two hand blunt. That is what they mean by increased effective casting level. Right now my evocation skill level is at 224. With this familiar out, it would be like I had a casting level of 226. This is more important later down the road when you max out the skill at 250...an increase in the effective casting level will still mean less fizzles.

What exactely does it mean that it increases effective casting level by 2? Is that the same as a char 2 levels higher without the familiar casting the spell?
The Enchanter spell "intellectual superiority" is an effective casting level modifier... probably get a clearer idea (though response is year's late)on that thread.
Believe that would also mean less resists, since you'd be considered two levels higher.

Yes,I believe that what is what it means by increase casting level by two. If you are 49, and have your familiar up, all spells cast are as if you level 51, in regards to your chance of fizzle, which is reduced each time you level. Less chance of fizzle means less fizzles, which means less wasted mana, which means more damage.

A passing mage dropped one of these on me, I seem to remember it being a 6 slot quiver with 40% weight reduction, and no rent. Inside were 150 range arrows. Can't remember how much damage they did but I'd hazzard a guess of 5. I seem to remember the arrows being magic, no rent but not 100% sure about the magic part.
