Multiple items miscategorized as having this spell effect
# Sep 19 2014 at 8:30 AM Rating: Decent
I ended up on this page after looking at the item: "Package of Defiant Armor" only to discover that several items are listed as having the effect of spell ID #205 which is the spell "true north", originally.

They just lump all gift and such effects as an alias under this one. All of the aliased versions do something special and don't actually point you to true north. It's an easier way of doing special need effects that won't get used again, so they don't have to waste a development time on an effect specific for the special need. At least that's my assumption.

There are others besides True North that are aliased alot.

once a long time ago, when people made their own maps in game it was a useful spell to have, but at that lvl i woulg get it for a cheap mana cost to level up your divination.

Once upon a time there was no compass. Sense heading also started at 0 not 200, and had to be built. If you succeeded on sense heading it would tell you which direction you were facing. If you failed it did not. There also were not maps.

Back then this spell was useful. Now its useless.

EverQuest didn't always used to be a hand holder game. You didn't start with 200 Sense Heading, and you had no compass, nor did you have a map. True North was one of the most reliable ways to find where you were pointing at early levels.

i thought that this is a uselees dumb spell
But ,this is the very best way to raise your divinataion skills > its a lvl 1 spell, uses very little mana, and chain cast this spell and watch your skill go up,it helps when you get a higher lvl div. type spell they wont fizzzle as much

This spell is the best spell in the game, anytime im lost, i NEVER use my map, always resort to this spell, why use a map that tells your exact location? It makes more sense to get upset and frustrated than click some little clicky click thing to see your map.

# Jan 23 2006 at 3:20 AM Rating: Decent
The map is a relatively new feature to the game. True North has been around since long before everyone had an innate Sense Heading of 200. True North used to have a very real purpose. Now, its reduced to Divination practice.
What was Sony to do? Remove an oldie from the game? The noobs may not respect it, but this thing made my days in Everfrost easier before you were born.

I don't know why I'm dignifying this with a response... maybe 'cause it made me laugh. (Side effects of sleep deprivation. /sigh) I'm just overcome by the compulsion to say...

This spell is pretty much useless for telling direction now that we all have a compass. Nevertheless, I would recommend buying this spell. It is cheap to buy, uses little mana, and repops quickly, which helps a LOT when you need to work on your Divination skill.
Being an Enchanter, I need to use illusions for certain things. I used the hell outta this spell to get my Div skill up so I could use the better illusions.

Does anyone know if this spell has any value since we now have north available all the time?

For my cleric, using True North was easy way to improve my "diviniation" skill. About the only use that I can think of for it now that our sense heading skill is pre set to 200.

While many people may think this spell is a waste of time, it's a low mana cost spell to use to keep your divination skill maxed.
