Good for 'Shock of Many' line of spells

This little item may seem useless to most but, if your a class that has the 'Shock of Many" line of spells, like a Mage, then it can be quite useful. Each of these spawned mobs counts as a pet attacking a mob which increases the spells damage. Toss it in with RS and Swarm AA and you have a lot of pets to get damage from.

To answer this question, they do from 0 to 5 or 6 HP damage per click, it's like a baby necro DoT, worthless for any actual practical use.

I don't see them doing any damage as of yet. I don't think they can hit magical creatures as of yet. I keep mine close at hand on my potion belt and await a patch message.
