This pet would not attempt a backstab until I gave it a weapon. I gave it a FS Rapier and it started to backstab. Also, it can facestab.. You do not need to have this pet behind the mob for backstabbing to work. just like mage pets.

I would never in my life use a silky for kiting, But possibly if I fear the target, And just let this pet enjoy itself with the best possible magician summoned gear I can buy, It might have a splendid outcome.

Loving this pet, the dps is enough higher that I need to cast 2 dot's less aggro kiting in PoN. Means less med time between pulls = more exp.
Its Amazing

Its amazing how many people are complaining about this pet. It is a (lvl 43) Rogue which equals DPS not Tankage, if you can't fear kite drop back to your level 48 pet Invoke Death (lvl 41 War). Simple task of looking up a bit of information about the mobs you are going after will keep you alive and healthy.
Hmm is this pet worth it?
# May 21 2006 at 12:25 PM Rating: Decent
Ok whats up /w a rogue pet!?!?!? I hate that it can't take dmg, so it makes it harder for a necro to kite, or overall solo, and necro's are all about the soloing! The good thing is the dmg he dishes out hits 4 about 60 and backstabs for about 155 average. I useually use him in agruop /w a tank but when ur soloing u might have more luck /w your lvl 48 pet he happens to have 2900hp and hits for 50 bashes for 30-40 and kicks for about 20 on average a mucher better tank for soloing.

what weapon do you use?
# Mar 10 2006 at 10:48 AM Rating: Decent
Do you have to use a piercing weapon for this pet to backstab? Any recommendations on which weapons to give this pet for max damage?
RE: what weapon do you use?
# Apr 06 2006 at 11:59 PM Rating: Decent
Though I cannot say whether or not you need a piercing weapon for it to do its backstab, I can tell you that weapon damage does not matter when it comes to pets. Pets use the weapon delay and stats only. (also note that if you give a warrior pet something that a warrior could not equip, the pet cannot do so either) Mage summoned weapons tend to do well because they have a low delay. The higher level summoned weapons also have DD procs, and add to the stats of the pet (HP and whatnot) but be aware, as the procs do tend to build aggro much faster, and could cause your pet to pull aggro off you while kiting, if your not doing enough damage

RE: what weapon do you use?

This is completley backwards.... pet wpn dmg is dependent on the weapon you give them, Weapon delay is only used if it is faster than the pets natural atk speed. So Heavy slow wpns with Huge dmg are awsome for pet... Secondly Pets can use any item so long as it isn't No Drop.

B4 you start giving out wrong information try checking what you are spouting.
RE: what weapon do you use?

You CAN give no drop weapons to pets. I've done it many times and it's happily equipped them, as for whether the damage on weapons makes a difference to the damage output from a pet I have no idea as I switch pet battle spam off. May wanna take some of your own advice Rubingr =)
RE: what weapon do you use?
# Apr 04 2007 at 6:28 AM Rating: Decent
ok, as a mage, who also happens to have a necro twink...class on weapons do not matter to pets. my monk pet (air) regularly equips weapons that are not monk usable. also, weapon damage only affects pet damage if it is greater than half of the pet's innate damage. so for my lvl 71 air pet which does 154 damage, i would have to equip a weapon to him that does 77+ damage to increase his damage output. Secondly, pets have an innate delay of 20, regardless of weapon delay. Thirdly, pets will equip no drop weapons, they happily do it. Fourthly, pets will equip two lore weapons...they happily do it (mage owns a Blazing Stone of Demise from ikky 4, look it up, the clicky pet weapon is great, and pet equips two of them at all times). Also in answer to the question about backstabbing, no pets do not need appropriate weapons equipped to do certain attacks. I.E., they bash without shields (barbarians are the only race that can do this), they will backstab with any weapon (my water pet, and necro rogue pets will both backstab with 1hs, 1hb, piercing equipped) Hope this answers any of your questions.

What nodrop weapons have you given your pets lately?

A slight correction, Ogres have the Slam ability that allows you to bash w/o a shield, so long as you have no illusion on

Trolls also have the slam ability. So it's not JUST Barbs and not JUST Ogres, this ability is give to ALL Large Races. This information is also available on the Creation Screen when you are creating your Race/Class combos.

Yea the backstab is nice and all but sometimes a necro needs his/her pet to keep mobs attention for a bit. In this area the pet falls short. This guy gets chomped in a matter of seconds, its pathetic. It is a serious weakness if you are killing mobs that cannot be snared/rooted. Fear kiting is not always an option, like if you are in a dungeon. I just believe the pet being a rogue gives necro a big disadvantage when soloing.

soloing
# Nov 15 2004 at 2:06 PM Rating: Decent
Apparently it is a rogue pet, all you have to do is snare the mob, dot it with other dots you got, it will aggro you forever, take pet taunt off, and send in this pet while you're running around in circles, this pet must be nutty damage while soloing. my necro is only 40 at this moment, but i found it cheap as hell to buy them spells to hand in to that guy in OT, then i handed them in and for about 100pp i got minion of shadows eventually. It's not costly at all. As for soloing, i dont think many necromancers use their pets as tanks, necro pets aren't meant to be used as tanks.

I use my pet (All) as tanks
Scenario:
1, Find Mob to slaughter.
2, Consider the mob,
3, Root mob If that didn't work set pet on mob,
4, continue dot-ing until all dots are on the mob
5,check my health (If Good )use auto attack (If Bad) run, gate, And I have killed Reds SOLO.
There may be other changes to this But that why I consider the mob first , Such as root resist a lot or resistant to spells Or ae-aggro

pet

If you solo alot this pet isn't really much of a deal, much weaker then last pet.

Would recommend using this guy in groups for dmg or fear kiting if you have him, then other guy if you want tank. Lvl49tank may not hit as hard, but he can take alot more hits. His backstap is nice add, but its kind of hard to poisition. One way to do it is to set him on guard in front of where your group is pulling, when they pull past him send him in and he'll backstap. I wouldn't worry about it after that, because you'll have to back him off, move behind mob, then resend him in over and over, better off just not worrying at it.

if you spend most of your time soloing and not fear kiting, probabaly shouldnt even get this guy, costly to get.

If you are grouped with a tank that likes the most dmg though, remind him or her that your pet backstaps up to 161, and some of them will stay on other side from him.

any knowledgable necro who solos doesnt have the pet tank.... seeing as how we have the ********* heals in the game for casters (Includes Priests, yes even worse than Shamans) and almost half the higher end pets are rogues... most soloers aggro kite (Thas where you turn off pet taunt and run around Dotting the **** out of the mob so the pet can BS and not take damage. So if ur still letting ur pet tank at this level... you might want to rethink your strategy a little seeing as how most mobs will start hitting for the 100's or so. Just a suggestion. (Also, SoW potions are your friend when aggro kiting) And if you dont believe me, ask any 65+ Necro who has the PoFire flag how he hunts mobs in there... im pretty sure s/he won't tell you s/he let's their pet tank. Have fun and try this out. Of course i must also say that once you get EoT that you can prolly let it tank in Nadox at the undead camps with your undead slow. Should be fun. Night.
Use in groups?

If I am in a group with a good tank and all would it be better to cast this or my lvl 49 pet? Since I would be sure this wouldn't be getting hit

I got both of these pets from skyfire if you are patient enough to get them there. They drop off just about any mob in the zone though I seem to have better luck when I hit a higher level one like the named drake Black Scar, A wandering wurm, Guardian of Felia, etc. I have a couple extra for sale if you need one and you are on The Nameless.

Rogue Pet Vs. Brainless Tank
# Oct 20 2003 at 9:23 AM Rating: Default
In groups, this pet takes either allot of work to position him constantly behind the mob or to have a rare tank who really knows how to get the most DPS out of a group by positioning himself oposite to the pets at all times. I find very FEW tanks who know what to do. I think they think that on the whole their job is to just stand still and tank; a brainless tactic at best.

I therefore prefer to either not use this pet in a group or not worry about positioning him all the time. What would be nice is just a bit of AI with it to keep to the back of the mob if at all possible. My main is a rogue (and tanks are just as dumb about positioning with us.. walling them is a fav of brainless tanks), and I try to stay to the mobs back so why shouldnt a rogue pet? Oh well.. Can't wait for the monk pet.

This spell can also be made through research: Words of Tenancy, Words of Tenure, Parchment, & Quill. The words are usually available in the Bazaar.

If this spell is dropped its incredibly rare, I got mine by turning in splurt, thrall of bones and convergence to a npc in the overthere evil city. By turning in these spells i received sacrifice ,minion of shadows, and shadowbond.
The spells recieved are random i got 4 scacrifices before minion was rewarded. didnt even bother to mem sacrifice. I do live the pet though..

Didnt bother to mem Sacrfice? One of the most important Necro spells you're likely to get outside of Summon Corpse?

So, no Convergence for you then...
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 25 2003 at 10:01 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Folks if you really really want this spell. Just do the spell turn-in quest in O.T. I find it funny as hell that I can purchace the 4 necro spells needed to do quest for 50pp or less. Then I turn them in and often get Minion of Shadows which I turn around and sell for 100pp. Note; I do this to **** off all them greedy bastages who insist on selling for 500pp + . Amazing that my best customers are those same Greedy PC's. They buy me out then jack up price. Then I go do quest all over again then pop back up in Bazaar an hour later with 4-5 more pet spells. Someday they will figure it out. Till then I will enjoy sticking it to them long, hard and slow. Paybacks are a ***** you Greedy bastages ! Muahahahahahaha

Pet hits for (57) damage and backstabs for (161) damage. A downside of this pet is his low, Rogue hit points.
