Add Dragoon V'Resh in Overthere as a mob that can drop this.
# May 27 2010 at 10:32 AM Rating: Decent
Killing cliff golems in Overthere had the goons add as usual this guy dropped last...looted and was surprised to see this spell...if you can handle 3-5 goons, General D'Veer and a cliff golem...I would hunt here for this spell...no idea what the drop rate is must be kinda rare as I've never seen it drop off a goon before and I've killed literally hundreds of these guys along with cliff golems.
Does it still drop?

I am having trouble getting this spell to drop.
I have gone to the City of Mist and killed golems there for about 3-4 hours.
I have also gone to Skyfire Mountains and killed mobs named above for about 5-6 hours.
Today I went to the Burning Woods and killed mobs stated above for about 3 hours.
Not one drop of Splurt (or Sacrifice).
I've been away from EQ for quite some time so I am wondering if these spells still drop since the new Research was implemented.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time.

Still drops in Skyfire also, just got it yesterday.

Have the best luck with wurms and wyverns, chromadracs seem a decent source too, but I try to avoid these when I can, hate their dispel.

Still drops got this spell and convergence in Sebilis a few days ago try there almost any mob in the zone can drop spells. Two or three hours there should net you a couple spells just keep going until you get the one you need. Sacrifice is also not a dropped spell but the result of the spell turn-in quest out of OT or Cabilis.

1. Not resisted very often.
2. Damage near 70 per tick average is no slouch.
3. I can cast this on ANY raid at the first contact of the Main tank and still not have to worry about agro since it builds up slowly.
4. Low mana so can cast it when I am running tight to help in a fight but not able to burn mobs more.
5. Good Range.
6. Awesome for pulls. Pet can take on agro within his first hit and he will typically not get behind this as it goes.

This spell is a godsend. I took it with me to Ruins of Old Guk (Lower Guk) to the Frenzied Ghoul spawn, and soloed my way to 51 to use ot. Pre 51, I was having trouble doing sizeable damage without having to FD every mob off of me and onto my pet. My line up looked something like this:

1. Darkness for the pull
2. Shackle of Spirit while siccing pet during cast
3. FD or Root to lose aggro, depending on which mob (Root for single pulls, FD for more than one)
4. Pop from FD and Bond of Death to regen
5. Step in to tank the rest of the way (If there is a single pull I'll tank the mob once it's slowed to keep DEF maxed, if multis, this is where I step back and slow the rest of the mobs)

This method took me from 3% of level 50 to level 51 with 5% AA so far, in about a 6 hour session. However, once I got my hands on Splurt, I noticed I could dot the mobs more effectively, without having to worry about shaking aggro. Here's my new method, WITH Splurt:

1. Pull with Splurt, run back to camp spot.
2. Sic pet while casting slow.
3. Splurt any adds, assist pet and Bond of Death his target.

This method has sped up my leveling quite a bit. The undead frogloks have an average run speed, so if I can manage to get max casting range, I beat them back to the camp spot easily.

I still use this spell! Presently, I solo (aggro kite) in Tactics, this is the 3rd spell I cast. Embrassing Darkness, BoT, Splurt! I completely agree with Agrio as to the usefulness of this spell. Get it! Keep it! and Use it!
Insane DPM with Focus & Spec!!!
# May 12 2004 at 8:17 PM Rating: Good
The "unmodified" DPM (Damage Per Mana) of Splurt is 6.8186 (Costs 237 Mana and does 1616 damage).

However, if you have Alteration as your primary specialization (and you should!) you save 10% on every Alteration spell (at 200 Spec). Affliction Efficiency saves another 25%. This reduces the cost of Splurt to a mere 160 mana. (237 x .9 x. 75 = 159.975). And if you have a Burning Affliction item the damage is raised to 1939 (1616 x 1.2).

With these 3 modifiers the actual DPM is a GODLY 12.1188!!! Add in a super low resist rate and very low up front aggro and you have one of the best spells in the game.

This is not just a soloing spell. The 1.6 minute duration makes it good for most group situations as well. PoP Mobs have a lot of hit points and most groups will need well over a minute to finish a mob. Cast splurt as soon as the Mob is in range. The first 3 ticks only do 11, 23 and 35 damage respectively, so you won't generate much aggro early on.

A truly AWESOME SPELL....use at every opportunity!!!

I rarely use this in groups.

In Innovation the damage gets up to about 80 per tick
LDoN 35ish

However solo. you know it.
I am not the best soloer but this is my general stack
1: Dooming Darkness
2: Plague
3: Envenomed Bolt > sick pet
4: Splurt

also have Ignite Blood for extra damage at low cost
and Bond of Death at 60% health from Lich
Cure?

Anyone know the check on this? Is it disease, poison or magic based? In PvP the necroes like to hit people with this and as a cleric would be nice to know the check on this and if it is curable. Any info would be appreciated.

This is a Magic based spell. Please note your chance to resist this spell is -100 vs magic.

Not sure which server you play on but the hardened pvp veterans will try to stack good buffs with 1-3 open spaces at the top. The idea is when your body starts to SpLuRt you can use pumis or cancle magic spell to 'cure' yourself without clicking off all your protection.

I have yet to see this spell resisted by another PC. In the new age of uber resist gear I am thankful my old friend SpLuRt still rides shotgun :)

This is the actual DMG of Splurt w/o Extended Affliction which on this date does not actually effect splurt. (Don't Worry I /bug 'd it)

11, 23, 35, 47, 59, 71, 83, 95, 107, 119, 131, 143, 155, 167, 179, 191, 203.

1819 Damage over 17 ticks.
RE: Splurts Actual Damage
# Nov 25 2003 at 12:01 PM Rating: Good
This spell does not go to 203 dmg. The last tick is 191 dmg on this spell. I also as a previous poster has stated, have never seen this spell resisted except on high end named mobs. Because it has such a low initial dmg and builds to it's max, it has an especially low agro when using it.

I used to use it allot, but after getting funeral pyre I rarely use it anymore. I would still load this spell however, if I just wanted to overstack some mob with umpteen dots as it stacks with any other dot line we have.

Extended Affliction has been changed to Burning Affliction, whereby the damage is increased by 1-20% at random (average +10%). Here's a log from a couple of days ago with a BA3 item in use:
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:03 2004] You begin casting Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:06 2004] Foul Pusling's body begins to splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:07 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 11 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:13 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 24 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:19 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 38 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:25 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 48 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:31 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 70 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:37 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 73 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:43 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 88 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:49 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 103 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:56:55 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 119 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:57:01 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 136 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:57:07 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 145 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:57:13 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 155 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:57:19 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 167 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:57:25 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 178 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:57:31 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 207 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:57:37 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 219 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:57:43 2004] Foul Pusling has taken 198 damage from your Splurt.
[Sun Feb 15 22:57:43 2004] Your Splurt spell has worn off.

That's a total of 1979 damage in 17 ticks - efficiency is 8.35, or 9.39 with an Affliction Efficiency III/IV item - quite a bit more efficient than Funeral Pyre but also much slower.

The last tick happens at random depending on when you cast it. Spells that last "4" ticks often get the 5th tick. This is because in literal terms the spell lasts 24 seconds. The world updates (the tick) every 6 seconds. This can result in 5 ticks of the spell, rather than just 4 ticks.

This spell comes in handy in a few PoP zones when you're lvl 51-54 or so. No dd attached and it starts out slow, saving a lot of agro. Nothing I would keep memmed when fear kiting. It's just one of those, want to help out the group but don't feel like getting whooped on dots. If you are root rotting any non-fearable mobs, this is also a nice addition to spell lineup.

Very mana efficient spell with fairly low resist rates. When you are low on mana but need some damage, this is the spell to call on. Tops out close to 1300 damage over the full 96 seconds. Because most of the damage is done at the end, it loses some appeal when fighting in groups that kill things faster than that. For that you'd want a fast, steady dot like Asystole or Cessation of Core.

Special DoT

This spell is an incremental DoT, meaning it does more damage every tick. I don't have any idea on what the actual numbers are, but here's the basics on how it works: Tick 1, 3 damage... Tick 2, 7 damage... Tick 3, 15 damage... and so on, doing massive damage the longer it lasts. Good for soloing and long group fights... any fight that will last for the duration of the spell (1min 36sec, maybe longer with Focus effects) or close to it.

This should mean its low aggro at the start. While your moving up the mobs hate list, so are any melee's and they should have a lot more aggro by the time the higher damage at the end of the DoT is landing.
