yes temp is an extreamly good spell, and since aego can only be cast on one lvl as a toon out grows temps and still can't get V, but the very next lvl V will land. So I say save your pp and don't get aego unless its a drop, since it will be rarely used. Now for this symbol spell. It will not stack with temp, but not every one wants temp. Many casters that do not melee (wiz, druids, and some shammies (less canni), mages and necros) and especially enc buffing in POK, will take a druid's cabbage, pot9, 10, 11 skin. Then want to stack a symbol and ward (AC only buff) with it. This way they get the hp, and ac, and the mana is huge bonus. Many clerics will not do this option for themselves as they want to do their own buffs. But if you can't get C3 yet, the mana is nice with cabbage. And even if you can, there is no such thing as too much mana. Group symbol spells will help clerics save on mana, and it is only the single target wards that will possibly drain the mana, but the new med rate makes this moot. Tanks can do this too since it gives more hp and ac. Of course it depends if you can give up 3 buffs slots rather than 1. And temp, aego, V last longer, so if the buffs are extra extended no big deal, other wise might want to do it only if you are grouped with a druid and cleric for re-buffs. Pro's and con's to everything, which makes EQ interesting how you decide to prioritize. For me I go for mana.

Also the temp version you can buy is group version, and quest is single version, so if you want to prevent mana drain, you should deff do the quest. One new member joins the group (or is rezzed, eek the cleric) and you have to use all the mana of group temp on one person (that is really a waste).

Lyssa T'born in OT does sell this, but she charges me 29p 2g 8s 9p (amiable and CHA 155). I don't know if this means she just charges higher prices than the other vendors, or if the price has changed for all vendors. (Freeport's apprehensive to me so I couldn't compare.)

Why Symbol?

For those of you who are new to the game and think that Temperance is so much greater than this spell, here is the low down for you. The aego line of spells ( temp, aego, virtue, conviction) are all a combination of 3 cleric buff spells; hp/ac buff (Heroism for example) hp buff (symbol of marzin for example), and AC buff (bulwark of faith for example).Temperance = 800hp, this spell = 700hp and can stack with heroism which is 370 hp and 18 ac and can stack with bulwark of faithfor 37ac. for a total of 1070hp and 55ac, temp is 800hp and 48ac. see how this works? temp is a lower "Aego" than the combination of these higher level spells

As of the September 13, 2004 patch this spell no longer costs a peridot to cast. Clerics rejoice.

I grouped with a 62 druid, a 54 cleric, a tank, myself (63 Bard), 58 shamaness. We were pretty much just goofing around in Veksar.
The cleric kept insisting upon casting Temperance on the paladin, but she wouldn't listen to me that the druid's PotG/PotC will stack with her Symbol, thereby giving the tank a few more HP to play with. She could also have cast ShoW and given the paladin's AC a buff, too.

Temperance is a great buff if it's all you have. But in the case of other (higher level) HP/AC buffers, sometimes it's better to pull out good ol' Symbol.

The only additional benefits of using Temperance is that it takes up just a single buff slot, and it also lasts a lot longer than regular Symbol.

I noticed that you said your not the cleric and just like everyone else in EQ you think that Cleric have unlimited mana if we cast everybuff on every group memeber we would be OOM more than we are already. At lvl 52 i added my mana cost to buff 1 group member and its 610mana you take that by 6 and you get 3660mana thats most of the peeps playing cleric mana pool. so im saying it was a very good thing that they came out with TEMP to help out the lower lvl clerics alittle.

I play a cleric and i totally agree with Micheax. Unless all you have is temperance, the other buffs used together are better, plain and simple. And unless you really don't know how to managae your mana, you'll be fine with these buffs. At the level you get these you mana pool should be plenty big enough that the difference in mana from the 3-buff in contrast to the single-buff Aego line of spells will not be enought to make that much of a difference. And that little extra hp/ac can make the difference between mana wasted on rezzes and mana for the next CH. Temperence, for all intents and purposes loses it's effectivess when a cleric cas start using grp symbols, at least that was my impression when my cleric was that level.

My thinking is that Temperance from what i've read is a quest spell and this is buyable so if you havn't done the quest you use the symbols.
Why use symbols?
# Jul 31 2003 at 12:11 AM Rating: Decent
Whats the point of using any symbols after you get Temperance and before you get aego? All the symbols in that range cost a peridot like temperance..but temperance is better...
RE: Why use symbols?
# Aug 13 2003 at 7:08 PM Rating: Decent
symbols stack with PotG and such, which increase mana regen. So you can have mana regen and an HP buff

Aye, if you have a PoTG/C/9 person around use symbols and ShoWords on knights. I'd still use temp on warriors though, and knights when the high lvl druids aren't around. Huge mana saver, and almost even with buffs until Aego.

The high level symbols all use a peridot as the regeant, Aegolism (lvl 60) combines symbol, hp/ac and ac buffs into one buff, and uses one peridot, Blessing of Aegolism (group aego) uses 4 peridots.
