I've been begging for a group version ever since "Mana Flare" first came out. It'll never happen.
Most Enchanters nowadays are either someone's buff-bot, or a raid's "tag-a-long" buffer; few play one as a main anymore. SOE's changed directions so many times, I don't think they have a clue what our role is anymore.
I no longer wonder why it is that every other Enchanter in my Guild switched to another main. Quite frankly, I'm thinking of switching to my Lvl 80 / 2029 AA Cleric as a main, and put all this nonsense behind me. It's just discouraging to spend over a year pointing out the obvious, and be met with more of the same (but twice as buggy).
Need C? Pop a potion...or sit for 30 seconds.
Need Haste? Pop a potion and a Yaulp VIII.
Need crowd control? Pffft, that's what the Clerics are for: to heal the off-tanks. Most Guilds don't even know how to work with Enchanters who mezz anymore.
SOE took a few steps in the right direction a year or so ago, but they stopped FAR short of where they should've. We're still so marginalized that no Guild wants more than 3 Enchanters (and most won't tolerate more than 2...at least, not on raids); our abilities don't stack (with the exception of a very few spells), so having more than 1 to buff, 1 to debuff, and 1 as a spare is a waste of a valuable slot that could go to someone with *real* DPS...and a higher survivability quotient, to boot.
Oh hell, who am I kidding? Right or wrong, marginalized or not, I'm still in love with my Enchanter...even if no-one else is. Once I've recovered from my stroke, I'll go back to plugging away at it; in the meantime, I hope SOE reverses its long-held strategy of ignoring us, and our suggestions. So far, it's worked great for THEM (i.e., they've not had to do much of anything, and haven't faced near the level of whining the Necros give them)...but WE still ain't doing so hot.
