As of 1/16/08 the spell now costs 701 mana.

It also does 432 dmg upon landing, then does between 428 and 432 per tick.

That now gives it an unadjusted DPS of 72, and 4.93 DPM (damage per mana). The old DPM was 4.82 so it's slightly more efficient too.

oh wait. i guess it's not very sweet. this line of spells died when the debuff was removed, anyway, didn't it? i love my class and what we do, but this spell begs the question: why?

can anyone see a reason to (ever) load this spell when a nuke could be cast instead? i can't actually remember ever casting thin air... i know it's a chromatic dot and all, but... why not just cast a nuke?

Just an addendum, but I do use my DoTs. When I'm charm-kiting, I load the mob up with them. And I cast them again before they wear off. With the faster cast time, plus the Mana Recursion buff, I do more damage that way.

I'm guessing a limited number of debuff slots on the mob got this one crowded out. Of course, if they're going to take away the debuff, they ought to give us something to replace it. Like extra damage. But no, that would make Enchanters a DPS class, and Sony would rather gouge out their eyeballs with a spoon than do that.

On the positive side, with this expansion comes the long overdue Critical Affliction AA for Enchanters, the ability to crit with our DoTs. Enjoy.

In a way they did give us something, they added a damage increase component to tash. Also we were able to crit our dots before with tier 4 don, although it wasn't as often as with additional aa's. Just glad that we have them finally.
