I do not see much point to this spell ... Let me explain.

Terror of Darkness - Level 33
Mana: 20
Hate position: +1
Hate added: 200

Terror of Shadows - Level 42
Mana: 40
Hate position: +1
Hate added: 400

So we double the mana cost for twice the hate. It sounds great in theory, but to be honest at this level our primary focus is going to be leveling, and we would only cast this in groups (for obvious reasons). The level 33 version, cast the instant after we land Clinging Darkness (hammer that button) is more than enough threat. Doubling the mana cost on extra threat at this level is pointless.

Skip this spell and stick with the level 33 version until level 53 when you can pick up Terror of Death.

Terror of Death - Level 53
Mana: 45
Hate position: +1
Hate added: 450

Lucy reads the spell.dat wrong for the terror spells.
It adds a set amount of hate, but it's still not as good as clinging darkness.
And it only works on close range.

Every mob has a hate list, and everything you do moves you up and down the list, the mob will generally attack the character at the top of the list. There are two types of hate proximity (how close you are to the mob) and the regular hate list. (root switches the mob immediately to proximity, it also has to do with why rangers arent eatten for lunch when the whip out a bow and start shooting things full of holes)

Proximity hate is all those fun things with bows/root/aggro radius of a given mob harmony and wave or tranquility spells will affect aggro radius

Heres the basic concepts. All spells carry with it a base HATE_AMOUNT which then goes through your skills such as spell casting subltey chanty/sk aggro buff or debuff spells. Slows/debuffs/snares generate huge amounts of aggro

lets say for grins that tash is 500 aggro and slow is 450, and if you want the chanty to live through the encounter you must generate 1000 pts of aggro so the mob you are fighting wont decide that the chanty really is good enough looking to eat.

DD this seems for sk dd to be a pretty straight 1 for 1 ratio of per pt of dmg to per pt of hate.

damage done by weapons is also pretty much pt for pt dmg to hate, thereby low ratio weapons will generate small amounts of aggro quickly while large ratios will generate large amounts of aggro slowly. Damage per second is generally how this works out. so highest DPS will give you the great aggro (this is way chain classes have aggro reducing skills jolt, evade, fd with a better chance of mem blur%)

Heals seem to be at least 1.5 X Amount_Healed added to the hate list so a 600 pt heal will approx generate 900 aggro so your healers can move up quickly on the list.

Sitting seems to double your hate for the amount of time you are sitting on the ground, once you stand the multiplier is removed. Some good fun is to get 2 people with near the same hate on mob list snare it and have them go to opposite ends of max spell range and ping pong it back and forth by sitting standing casting etc... good fun.

Ok moving down on the hate list
There is a chance that feign death will wipe some of the aggro you have on a mob, (NOTE* monkey feign death is much better at this then necro/sk)spells like boggle will remove aggro, and of course everyones favorite death/zoning/or /quit clears you off mobs hate list.

Now if you feign death or run out of aggro range such that the mob returns to his usual spot, or if hes a roamer, be NOT suprised about the mob telling his friends about what a punk you are and have them jump ya should you come back within their aggro range.

See doesnt understanding the hate list take some of the fun out of maing?

One exception is CH which is capped at 2000 hate.
