Archery?

Funny how it says that it uses archery but has few of the features of archery:

1) Double damage when the mob isn't moving or rooted
2) Damage influenced by bow and arrow
3) Damage influenced by Trueshot/Aimshot
4) Ammumition not needed when you have Endless Quiver

Further, it doesn't have this feature that you'll find in spells:
1) Magic-based spell damage boost (it's a spell!) when the focus is on your gear

I don't understand why we have this spell and deadfall. The spells make little sense to me so far and I'm really wrecking my brain trying to figure out when/where to use this thing. It uses a crazy amount of mana. Someone said it's usefull on the pvp server, but us bluebies should have a need for it too! Regardless, I still think the problem with this spell is one of consistency.

If they're going to add a spell that is supposed to use the archery skill, I wish it would be consistent with what we're familiar with! For instance, give it double damage when the mob isn't moving. Make it respond to focus effects that increase spell damage. And allow us to use more arrow types, not just one particular combination of ingredients - it took me a while just to produce the stupid arrow. Why does it have to be 50 range? Why does it have to be class 3? To me, that is stupid. That is not like archery at all.

You think it's useless, but I can tell you where every ranger has it. Zek
Worlds Worst Ranger Spell?
# Oct 31 2007 at 7:58 AM Rating: Decent
I thought to myself, "Self ... what uses could this spell have?" Well, after some testing, I have found pretty much no evidence that this spell is worth the parchment it was scribed on. I thought, well, at least maybe if I popped off true shot that I would have a nuke that is doing some good dmg for the mana costs. To my severe disappointment, no, this spell could care less about true shot.

truthfully, I think this spell is a serious piece of crap, and I doubt I will ever find a use for it. Especially since the new 74 nuke (Summer's Dew) is so good. Why would I want a 1800 nuke, when all too often, my Summer's dew hits for the same amount and is even cheaper than the other elemental nukes we have? 382 mana for a potential of about 1800 dmg versus 655 mana for close to 1800 dmg?

Sorry .. the math just doesn't add up. This spell is essentially worthless - I wouldn't even waste money buying the rk1 version of this, let alone purchasing the rk2.

I mean seriously, I think this is one of those cases where sony realized just before release, that they are missing a ranger spell .. and just to err on the side of caution, decided to add this gimp piece of crap .. just because they didn't have enough time to balance/play-test a real worthwhile spell.

I hate Sony -- that is all.

Something different from other nukes. This spell has some advantage-- 1) NO FIZZLE 2) Hard to resist 3) Very fast casting speed 4) Low aggro
Screw Sony!!and their gimp spells

Ya know I've been playing a ranger since the day the Kunark expansion came out and it seems someone over at Sony has a hardon for Pally's and Hates rangers. I've had it with nerfed DPS on our bows, enough AC and HP's that druids are tougher than us, and the proverbial FD comments by all other classes. I am a cop here in Vegas and I think I'm gonna attend the gamecon just so I can get in someones ear over at Sony. If the nice approach doesn't work I wonder how well they would like a cell with Bubba in the city of sin.

Sorry for the rant just mad at this gay spell.
What a load of bollox

This spell is a joke. A joke by Sony, on rangers.

Consumes a reagent when cast. Not a terribly expensive one but it still means hauling around a bag of arrows everywhere you go.

Mana cost is exorbitant in the extreme. Just for comparison's sake it would cost only 164 more mana to chain cast Summer's Dew twice and do 904 more damage (assuming the mob isn't very resistant to fire and cold, or has been debuffed with malo/mala).

It has a high recast time just like most of our nukes

Only works on humanoids.

So what it comes down to is that you have a nuke that can't be chain cast, doesn't do very much damage, costs a ton of mana to cast, and requires a reagent. Possible uses where this might come in handy? Well if you have a named that is highly resistant to fire and cold but that is humanoid.... this might be a handy. In that highly unlikely circumstance it might prove usefull.

Buying a Clue
# Dec 18 2006 at 9:28 AM Rating: Default
With all the cash Sony makes from us, you'd think they could afford to buy a clue. The ultimate irritant about this spell is Sony's description of what's humanoid/animal and what's not.

Prime examples:

Any playable race can be shot. Any skeleton of the same cannot be.

Dragorns can be shot. Noc's and Kyv's cannot be.

Now, the dictionary defines humanoid as "having human characteristics or form; resembling human beings." So fingers, toes, walking upright, two legs, two arms, head, etc....

Maybe Sony could buy a dictionary if not a clue?

Any chance we'll ever get a DD that will do more than chip a lvl 75 mob's toenail? I mean since we aren't getting much more than a pittance of melee/archery damage upgrade with the new expansion.

Was looking forward to Vanguard going live until SOE thrust their evil snouts into that too.

Oh, almost forgot about the consumable reagent. woot. I get to haul around bags full of arrows again.

It hits as spell damage atm, and just has shooting bow animation.. I've even see the mod on 2.0 activate when casting this spell.

If the skill type is archery, will this do double damage if the mob is being tanked like normal shots do? Wife's ranger is only 72 so it will be a while till I have an answer, but if I have no reply by that time I will fill in the data.

No this wont do DBL DMG, this is a spell that just uses Bow graphics, meaning it can be resisted as well but on the flip side it can land as a crit spell which dbls the effect.
