I enjoy hand to hand combat while drunk at weddings and parties. It is often fun for me (warrior) to go toe to toe w/ much higher levels in guild ..."fists only". So for entertainment value I dig it. I have also known a few chicks who dig it too...*smile. Plus a secret bonus my kick is maxed out too... I use it just to wake them up a little hehehe.

I am a monk and got my H2H skilled up to 225, the cap until 50. At 51 I started using H2H again to get the skill raised to the 252 post-50 cap.

At lvl 56 my 1HB and 2HB are both maxed at 252 but cannot seem to get my H2H over something like 248. Seems to allow me to go up two skill points each time I level but did not experience that with 1hb and 2hb.

Was wondering if other monks have experienced this and if it is normal. Perhaps I am just having bad luck raising the skill?

Does barehanded do more damage at a higher level of learning? My thanks, be to you.

Pandapoo,

www.monkly-business.com is an excellent site with a great deal of useful information concerning monks: their skills, equipment, quests etc. It is often worth visiting that site if you have a question.

The brief answer to your particular query is Yes. Monks bare hands do get better with levels. From the above website you will find that fists progress as follows:

Human and Iksar
Level 1 - 4/36 (dmg/delay)
Level 5 - 5/36
Level 10 - 6/36
Level 15 - 7/36
Level 20 - 8/36

After level 20 Human and Iksar fists differ slightly with Human fists being one delay faster:

Human first, Iksar second
Level 25 - 9/35, 9/36
Level 30 - 10/34, 10/35
Level 35 - 11/33, 11/34
Level 40 - 12/32, 12/33
Level 45 - 13/31, 13/32
Level 50 - 14/30, 14/31

After level 50 fists improve more frequently, but I will let you research that yourself on the website if you wish.

Hope you found this useful.

Is this a worth while skill to have for a warrior, i am currently maxed in 1hs and 2hs and working on 1hb 2hb peircing, I know that there are great weapons for a warrior in those skills, but are there any h2h weapons worth using for a warrior like at higher lvls will i have a chance to get a great h2h no drop that i will not be able to use?
thanks

H2H for casters

Quite some time ago I was in Kelithin at the bank trying to sell stuff when people started saying ooc that there was a lvl 63 Wizard taking on anyone who was stupid enough to challenge him. I went to go see and to my surprise he was punching people. He apparently was low on mana, but I could not think of why he was not using a weapon. The other day I found out.I was in HK porting people for donations, when someone trained to the bank I had all my ports memorized so I was defensless exept for my 1hb staff. Needless to say I died but the thing is my soul was bound at the bank. So as soon as I respawned I was killed again. I did not have time to go through my spell book or even loot my corpse to get my weapon. I was killed 4X in a row before bosec poped and got there aggro. I learned my lesson to bind my soul somewhere else. But I think Its a good idea for casters to train in H2H,even if you rarely ever have to use it.
Question.

I'm curious about this skill, If you get it up would that mean you take less damage from NPC's who decide they don't like you so they go and punch you for +3x the damage you'd do with your weapon? I've checked other sites and Casters Realm (HA! sux), says it reduces damage taken from people that use H2H?

Anyone know if this is true?

Not at all sure what they were thinking with that description.

In my humble opinion, Monks and Beastlords use H2H, and a Warrior -- even on a CR -- is far better off equipping a spare pair of half-decent weapons from the bank than standing toe-to-toe with a MOB and slugging it out.

That said, I DO work on the skill, but only because I try to work on all available skills with all of my characters as much as possible. Just have to be smart and choose to practice these kinds of skills when it makes sense and is safe.
Necros

I know Necros can practice this skill, it has a skillcap. But how does one practice? Just fight mobs without any primary or secondary weapons? I don't know the true value of this skill, but I am trying to max out all my skills I can with weapons! :O)

I have a magician and I practice this skill. I have a friend give me some nice buffs and maybe some regen if he sticks around. then I summon a earth pet for root and have him attack a target. I blast the beastie some and bring it down then join into the fight using Hand to Hand or 1HB or 2HB or whatever weapon I want to increase in skill. If I go down too much in HP I just back off and let the pet take over. It's a slow way to increase the skill, but it works. Just don't take on anything higher then blue to you. Even lite blue beastie will bring up the skill.
As a necro, I would guess you can try this technique as well, you don't have root but you do have that necro snare thingie so that's good enough to get away until your pet taunts it off.

Another way to do it is to find a wide open space with low agro mobs. Beat up a mob as you would normaly until it begins to flee. Call off your pet and just follow him wacking away. If he doesnt regen faster than you can hit just lay off a moment.
Reason to work up H2H

The only reason I can think of to work up Hand to Hand skill in non-monk/BL melees is in case of being disarmed. You can keep hitting, although not for much, while recovering your weapon.

My Bard worked his up when I noticed patriach claws are Bard usable, but the cap makes using this skill regularly impractical, once you get past 25 or so.

Better weapon to train in H2H is Fist of Wood ( click on my Human Monk Profile to see them ). Much faster and about as cheap. You can even camp it once you do not get aggro from the Patog Phlarg Fiends in Paludal, I believe it is at level 30.
