The best vendors for poison making are in East Freeport. Go into Arena and run straight across it ,You will see the archway to exit arena,go there and take first left ..There you are. East freeport is the single best place to make poisons, there are vendors all around east freeport that sell components to Low and High trivial poisons. Many components that are rare or hard to find can be found here. You will be able to make many poisons without leaving East Freeport (except to go to bank when bags are full..Bank is in West Freeport). East freeport NEEDS a BANK..Anyways, Simply look up your poisons components here on alla and see who sells them in East Freeport, then go to find menu In-Game and there you are.. Most sub-combine ingredients are sold here ie... gnomish spirits, ore blocks and pieces ect... A lot of poisons Can be made without farming anything, and those are here .You just need plat,or make your own.. So good luck !!!

New to this whole weap poisoning thing - once you poison a weapon, how long does it stay on ur blade? Does it last for just the one mob? Or a time limit? Or until you log?
Did SPIRT OF SLOTH till I hit 261 then I switched over to SOUL BURN as I was loseing pp on ever successful combine
SOUL BURN sells for 14pp, plus the mobs in the Overthere drop plat and have a very short respawn. Granted Im pulling like 20 scorps at a time with my warrior, takes about 60secs to kill them, and I get around 5 poison sac per 20. Takes 5x longer to gather all the scorps then to kill em, and even longer to loot and destroy junk.
Still though, I think to get the 40 more skill ups, Ill need 1000+ poison sacs ( 500 combines )to get even close, and thats being really optimistic, even with stats maxxed at level 53.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what is easiest to grind with after Spirit of Sloth becomes triv at 275? I've been looking, but everything requires camping drops, bleh..
I have been working on my make poison skill for ages. And have just finish trivialing Calacium Rot at 172. I read that you can use skill points with the guild master in the PoK to raise your skill further. When I try he say that I am already trained to my experience or the like. I was lvl 50 at the time and have just got lvl 51 (with the same response). I can increase my own skill buy combining new poisons (i.e. i am not max out for my level).
My question is this- Is the previous note about being able to train with the DE ROG Guildmaster to 200 (if you have the plat) incorrect?
I have been using training points toward Apply Poison. I knew the other skills I could raise naturally. Once I was maxed at Apply Poison (200), I assumed I could help out my Make Poison skill (185). Wrong. How can I be more skilled at Make Poison than my Guildmaster? Does not seem right to me?
I know you message is kind of old, but here's the answer for anyone else interested. The only Rogue GM I know of that can train you higher in poison making is actually Stanos in High Hold. He can train you all the way to 250, if you have the plat! It was around 100pp per point when I did it, but your mileage may vary.
Things have changed. As of the date of this post, I could not use Dark Elf Mirot in POK or Stanos in High Hold to train me in Make Poison. My skill level is only (185). I'm not sure what I'm going to spend my available 7 points in...but I will not be running around looking for a GM to train in Make Poison.
There is a morter/pestal seller in Shadow Haven upper floor. I kept thinking it was a mixing bowl till I got smart and took a close look at it. Hope that helps.

I would like to know if there is a way to stack poisons like the Shammy do Potions.. is this possible ? if so, how? if not, we should petition the want list for it. and also that ALL the poisons are duration based not 1 hit. so that it would become more productive for cost reasons
I am a level 34 Rougue my poison making is 175. The skill went from 172 to 175 in about 20 tries then in 400 tries it never went up. I stopped! Am I maxed for my level?
Yes, you can from most but not all rogue trainers. Cost varies from free to hundreds of pp depending on how skilled you already are in Poison Making. If you have the money, Stanos, in High Pass, can train you all the way to 200 (maybe 250).
the DE rogue trainer in PoK can train all the way to 250. But you are still restricted by lvl*5+5 for a lvl cap so you cannot get skill 250 until you reach lvl 60. Skill points 200+ are roughly 100pp per skill point.
i am at 97 poison and went to train a few points just to make an even 100 and none of the guildmasters in pok would train me because they are not that high a skill ~ Raserieksil Zek Knights of Shadowhawk
No you can't. Verant has said that due to the way poisons were coded it is not possible to make them stackable or give multiple charges.
The good news is that today VI announced new proc'ing poisons being released with Planes of Power. Whether or not you need the expansion to get the poisons was not stated. Nor was it stated if you need to be a certain level to make or use those poisons.
No. Rogues can only poison their own weapons. You cannot poison someone elses. The poison does not actually go on the weapon but into your primary melee slot. The poison activates when any PIERCING weapon in the primary melee slot scores a successful attack on the target.
VI has said that they will be revamping poisons in the near future - before the release of Planes of Power. Poisoning other peoples weapons and applied poisons wearing off while zoning are 2 issues they are considering. New poison types are another. Whether or not any of this will actually happen is another story.
Many recepies for some new cultural armor requirs celestial essence. To make celestial essence you need a spell component. There are 3 vendors that sell Scent of Marr in bulk. East Commons - Lyth Spellstar /loc: +1075 -1040 In a Hut near the WC zone.

How does one make Celestial Essence? I gather it requires zero skill in poison making, and my 51 rogue has that, barely, but what other ingredients, besides Scent of Marr, if indeed there are other ingredients, does one neeed? Where might those ingredients be aquired, what do I combine, and in what do I combine them? etc... Any help would be appreciated. Thanking you in Advance
Hate to say it, but I don't see them ever making arrows able to be poisoned. Yes it would be cool, but it would also be too much like a distance spell. Spine Break from 200 feet? I don't think so.
No. Arrows cannot be poisoned at this time. The only ranged weapons that can be poisoned are non-stackable, thrown weapons. VI has said they may change this in the near future along with a major overhaul of poisoning in general.
One of my guildmates asked me to explain poison making and poison uses to my guild. I wrote a summary on EQ poisons that I thought others might find useful. This is by no means "the" definitive guide to poisoning but I think it summarizes the skill nicely:
"Poisons" is one of my favorite topics. They give a rogue some rudimentary necromancer and shaman spell abilities. Poisons come in 4 different types or 'strengths' which are classified as types I, II, III, and IV. There are also several different catagories of poisons which each have their own special effect:
injected - DOT contact - DD instant weakness - lower victims STR rating temporarily muscle lock - slow/snare (up to 2 minutes) paralyze - root+slow (short duration) system shock - stun + small DD + knock back dizzy - lowers AC and reduces ATK rating madness - increase STR and AC but fast, large DOT (30 sec duration) flesh rot - long lasting DOT + DD + DEX & AGI debuff anti-summoned - large DD vs elementals only liquid silver - large DD vs undead only anit-animal - large DD vs animal only brittle haste - increase speed but reduce ATK and AC blindness - blinds target feeble mind - mana drain lower resist - lowers all resistances
Each of these catagories has a type I-IV (eg Flesh Rot I, Feeble Mind II, etc). Each poison catagory/type combo has a distinct name (eg Flesh Rot I is called Solvent Gangrene). Some poisons work best in PVP and not well at all against NPC MOBs (eg mana drain is often useless since the mana pool of NPC is artificially inflated).
Poison effectiveness is also affected by the level of the maker (not the Make Poison skill level but the actual PC level). As a result a level 30 rogue could learn to make type II poisons (which requires Poison Making of 100+) however, because of the PC level those type II's would still only be as effective as a type I. Around level 36 the type II's would start becoming more effective than type I's. Type III's won't be more effective than type II's until level 45. Likewise, type IV's until level 50. So, until the rogue hits level 36 it is not cost effective to make type II or higher poisons.
Poisons are expensive. For example, a common poison I use is Asp Poison (type I contact). It does about 5 hp*PC level DD, instantly. It trivials at Make Poison of 24. I need a regular poison vial, 2 asp venom sacs, and a regular suspenion fluid. To buy the vial cost about 1pp. I make my own if I have the vial components so the vial costs me about 5gp. I have to farm the asp venom or, if I am lucky, I can find it on some vendors where newbies have dumped it for 5gp each. The regular suspension costs me about 8 gp. The total cost for one vial (non-stackable) of asp poison is as much as 2.8pp if I buy everything. Farming takes a lot of time. In 1 hour of farming I got 1 asp venom sack and 3 snake venom sacks- so you see that it can be hard to get components without buying them. The poison is only good for one shot and it can be resisted (not that it happens often).

I was just in LOIO last night, and was going to get mortar and pestle from the poison merchant in the windmill. he DID have vials, suspensions, and a poison book etc., but he did NOT have any mortar OR pestle. i waited around a while to see if some would "pop" in is trade screen, but got bored and camped. Does he not sell it now?? Or will it be there tomorrow?
Trivial means you cannot advance in the skill by producing that particular item anymore. You can only advance further in the skill by producing a more difficult item (which has a higher trivial score).
Could anyone help me with getting started on raising my skill in Poisoning? I just dinged lvl 20 and would like advice on the fast/cheap track to raising this skill. It seems all the posts are for high lvl's who just neglected this skill. Thanx
My suggestion (having gone the same route you are going) is prepared to be broke. Poison making is expensive. You can save money by mastering pottery first. That cuts your vial cost in half.
Next, you need to find a good supply of spider venom, snake venom, and asp venom. These trivial at about 24 so making them wont take you very far. They are very useful poisons though. Next go for Spine Break. That is very expensive to make but trivials at 35. Then go to Unrest and get grave mold. Make Solvent Gangrene to level 40. Then go to Lavastorm and get Putrid Bile from Fire Drakes and make Putrid Bane. That trivials at 47.
One big point is that poisons come in 4 tiers. Each tier determines the maximum effectiveness of the poison type. Also, your level determines the effectiveness of the poison type. So, regardless of your poison making skill a level 29 rogue will make a more powerful poison than a level 22 rogue even if the level 22 rogue has a higher skill in poison making. Add to that the fact that 1st tier poisons cap out around rogue level 35. So a level 50 rogue makes the same potentcy tier 1 poison as a level 35 rogue. Also, the most difficult tier 1 poisons trivial at poison making skill of under 100.
Keeping all this in mind don't bother trying to get your poison making skill over 100 until after you hit level 35.
Poison making is fun. I don't have the link handy but Kiky's Poisonus Pages is a great reference on anything to do with Everquest poisons.

K just hit 20,(undinged last night but ah well nm)I went to train in FV last night by hiding and sneaking and got to the rogue trainer and she didnt have the apply poison or make poison skill! I died for nothing (she promptly killed me when I was done training). Would anyone know why this trainer didnt have the skill? Also, to do this do I need to be a potter too? thanks
No, you do not have to have pottery skill. You can buy the vials if you like from vendors. The vendor next to the trainer in FV sells those and the suspensions you need. Also, there is a vendor at the windmill in LOIO. There are vendors for vials in FP, Kaladim, Qeynos, Neriak,West Karana and Dagnor's Cauldron, as well.
The advantage to having pottery is that vials cost about half as much to make as it does to buy them. But it can be time consuming.
Well, you don't say what race you are but my guess is DE. Anyway, Hide breaks after you close your trade or training window. You immediately have to reapply it (hopefully before you are detected). However, the trainer in FV is limited in what skills are available. Basically, the 'evil' skills are not available (make and apply poison, instill doubt) from this particular trainer. This is likely a roleplay thing since wood elf rogues are 'scouts' and not 'thieves'. FV is definitely a high/wood elf town. I dont know for sure but I would guess you would have the same skill limits in Kelethin at the Scouts of Tunare guild.
Slipskin Ashenheart Rogue, Half Elf (and proud of it), level 28 Bertoxx Server
You buy suspensions from poison vendors. They can be tricky to find since no one really wants them in town ;-). There is a vendor in West Karana, another in Freeport in a secret tunnel in the wall outside the gate, another in Dagnor's Cauldron, another in Lesser Feydark and one at the windmill in Lake of Ill Omen. There are others in Neriak. I am not sure where else.
Slipskin Ashenheart Rogue, Level 23 Bertoxx Server
The sneak trick is definatly the easy way to do it. For those who dont know, sneaking behind any NPC makes them con indifferent, and this will even make any merchant trade with you.
There are many poison vendors around, some of them sell motar and pestle (West Karana, LoIO, Fiona Vie, Freeport).
I was just in LOIO tonight, and was going to get mortar and pestle from the short merchant in the windmill. he DID have vials, suspensions, and a poison book, but he did NOT have any mortar or pestle. i waited around a while to see if some would "pop" in is trade screen, but got bored and camped. Does he not sell it now?? Or will it be there tomorrow?
Being a level 22 rogue I don't mess around much with anything more than tier 1 poisons. This mainly because their effects don't max out until the mid 30's, in most cases. Besides, I haven't gotten my pottery skill to a point where reg vials are trivial yet. So, I have my favorite poisons that fit my level of skill, time and budget:
Snake Venom - nice DOT. Good supplement to my Stilleto of the Bloodclaw
Spider Venom - I once popped a Pickclaw Guard in HK with this. Suddenly he was hitting my group's tanks with max damage of 6-10 instead of 20-40. My group's healer was very happy.
Asp Venom - at level 22 I get a max DD of 87. Add that to my 72 pt backstab. Enough said.
Solvent Gangrene - 5 pt DD + 150pt DOT AND (at level 22) a 26 pt reduction to target's DEX and AGI. Monk's and Rogues beware! Nice for duels. Components are easy to come by in Unrest.
Spine Break - expensive for a level 20ish PC since all components are purchased but it makes a nice root/snare. Reduces targets attack speed. Your group's healer will like this one, too. Good for rogues who like to solo.
I am a bit confused. I also have just started a ranger, and I was using the fletching skill, and all though it seems unrelated, it got me thinking about my Girlfriend's character, and how she NEVER uses her rogue to make poisons. The whole fletching thing started a bug in me to learn more about skills. Specifically poisons.
This is my question. I noticed on another site that there are Tier 1,2,3. So at a beginning level can a player make ANY tier one poison? See with fletching I am litterally moving up ONE arrow class at a time. Changing ONE component, then 2, and so on. The ITEM itself I am crafting has a difficulty rate. Does this hold true with poisons? I assume Tier one to start BUT if its like Fletching it would be. Spider venom untill I could no longer learn to make it. Then Asp Venom and so on. Eventually to tier 2.
I think since a rogue is the only one that can use and even MAKE poisons, I think its a waste for her not to make these things.
Does rock. So if there is a comprehensive guide from poison 1-??? for a learner please let me know. OR if ANY and all poisons in tier one may be attempted with equal chance of success.
In a sense, you are correct- you can try to make any poison, but just like with arrows, if your skill isnt high enough, it doesnt usually work. And just like fletching, it gets expensive. Different tier I poisons have different trivials, so some are easier to make than others. Spider poison and snake venom are both tier I, but Spider is still a bit harder.
Notice that poison effects for different tiers max's out at different character levels. So, most tier 1 poisons don't max until the rogue reaches mid 30's. Most tier 2 poisons don't max until the rogue hits mid 40's, etc. So, you can advance your make poison skill as fast as you like but it is not cost efficient to make higher tier poisons until you have reached a character level where the lower tier's max effect is reached. Notice that regardless of the tier the minimum effect generally stays the same (with a few exceptions).
There was a link posted here to Kiky's Poisonus Page a little while ago. I checked it out. Its a nice page with well designed cross-links.
I have a morta and pestle to combine my ingredients that i bought from toxdil, apparenlty I cant combine the poison ingredients in it, Basic stuff I Know but for anewbie rogue quite crucial... What do I need to combine poisons?
First of all you have to be level 20 to make poison. Otherwise your wasting money and time. Other than that follow the recipe in the books. Remember to not stack components in the mortar/pestal. Each item must go in its own slot.
These sites are good enough to help get you to master skills, so i highly recommend them in addition to allakhazam's magical realm =o) Although I recomend Raul's site over EQ traders, you should check out both.
Okay, if you have around 1.5k, you can probably get your skill in Make Poison up to 100. Mine is currently at 49, and the first time I tried making after practices it went to level 30. I spent 350+pp getting it 19 levels. A VERY expensive trade. BUT I have the best site for every trade skill EVER. Go to sbchuzza.com to find every possible skill stuff you could ever want. Today is the first day I've done anything with poison, and I leveled in it very fast compared to Blacksmithing. This is a definite MUST for Rogues; if you wanna' solo, you have to do this. Okay? Okay. Good. I'm on the Saryrn Server, send me a tell if you found this helpful.
there is a thread running on the safehouse website (laboratory section) regarding this...rumour has it that any non-stackable piercing range weapon can be poisoned. this means arrows, shuriken, and throwing daggers will not accept poison, while ordinary daggers and spears will. cannot confirm this with personal experience, though i'll be givin' it a try soon.

A little of each. Example: Asp Poison (very simple Level 1 injected poison) is a direct damage poison that does Character's Level x4 for damage. It gets tricky over level 35, where the class of poison starts really being effective. All poisons have a class 1-4. The class of poison shows up in the info panel and gives you a good idea of it's effect and potency, example: Lixt Wing Dust has: Liquid Silver 1, which is a low level undead DD. Maddening Sap has: Beserker Madness 1, which is a Str raise/lower as well as AC and ATK lower.
Go to thesafehouse.org for much more info than I could ever hope to tell you

you take your weapon and right click with it on the poison filled vial. your character will automatically sit down and in a few seconds it will give you a message as to whether you applied it successfully or not
If you are just right clicking it, it cant be in a bag- i save a slot in my main inventory, and have that slot hotkeyed. That way I can poison between pulls and put another in the slot during a fight.
Can someone please explain whether or not you can apply multiple poisons to your weapons? I happened to do this the other day with an Inject poison and a Muscle Lock poison, and they both took effect at the same time when I hit my target. Then I tried a Paralyze and a Blind poison at the same time and it only blinded the target. Whats going on here? Can you only double up certain poisons (and if so which ones) or is it a bug of some sort? The ability to double up poisons is certainly useful indeed, especially in pvp.
I just got poison making and read that you can't really advance in it for a few levels by actually making the poisons only by training. What is the lowest level we can begin to advance poison making in? Thanks. Level 20 Barb Rogue

I never used it will like 55 heh......didn't realize what it did till then so, but it isn't really needed. But now if I know i would have used it right from the begining.
Ok, I've searched everywhere I could think of. I have a pretty decent list of poisons and their ingrediendts, probably not nearly all of them, but it will do, but I can't find ANY information on dyes except when they are trivial... Any info would be appreciated.
Be warned that dyes are probably harder to get materials for than poison, unless you get lucky and find the spawn points before anyone else (might be easier now the rush for dyes has faded some).
You might also want to look at brewing. This is a useful support skill, not only for poison, but also for smithing, where tempers are needed to make cultural armour. This all takes time and dedication though to get the required components - make sure you have plenty to spare before attempting them!
For all of you young rogues who prefer using weapons OTHER than piercing in your primary slot (you have a great 1hs or 1hb weapon or you're trying to raise skill) :
You CAN poison any weapon in your primary weapon hand simply by applying the poison with a piercing weapon, and then switching in the non piercing weapon. You dont actually apply poison to the weapon, you apply poison to the weapon slot.
I've successfuly used poison with Runed Falchions, Yak War Clubs, Barbed Whips etc.
Young rogues? You have both skills neccessary at lvl 20. By this time, you can BS well into the 70's with a decent weapon. And the big question is, Why have a 1HS primary when you could do more dmg with a piercer?

"Poisons" is one of my favorite topics. They give a rogue some rudimentary necromancer and shaman spell abilities. Poisons come in 4 different types or 'strengths' which are classified as types I, II, III, and IV. There are also several different catagories of poisons which each have their own special effect:
injected - DOT
contact - DD instant
weakness - lower victims STR rating temporarily
muscle lock - slow/snare (up to 2 minutes)
paralyze - root+slow (short duration)
system shock - stun + small DD + knock back
dizzy - lowers AC and reduces ATK rating
madness - increase STR and AC but fast, large DOT (30 sec duration)
flesh rot - long lasting DOT + DD + DEX & AGI debuff
anti-summoned - large DD vs elementals only
liquid silver - large DD vs undead only
anit-animal - large DD vs animal only
brittle haste - increase speed but reduce ATK and AC
blindness - blinds target
feeble mind - mana drain
lower resist - lowers all resistances

I've got a question along the same line...
If a poison is trivial, can you still fail in creating it? I believe the answer is Yes... but, I just want to get clarification.

Trivial does not mean automatic success. It just means you can't learn anything more by making that item.

There are many poison vendors around, some of them sell motar and pestle (West Karana, LoIO, Fiona Vie, Freeport).

By the way - this site -

Does rock. So if there is a comprehensive guide from poison 1-??? for a learner please let me know. OR if ANY and all poisons in tier one may be attempted with equal chance of success.

But now if I know i would have used it right from the begining.
Kral.
