Easy +16 int for enchanters
# Sep 14 2000 at 3:07 PM Rating: Excellent
There are two quests that will get you an easy +16 worth of int, for enchanters.

A dark elf enchanter can quest the stein of moggok at level 8. A non-DE enchanter can do it when they get Illusion: Dark Elf. The stein is +10int. It's an easy quest and there are no monsters above level 3 to fight. You have to kill some bixies, and run back and forth accross antonica a few times, that's about it.

When you are near Queynos for the stein quest, there is a quest there that gets you a +3int earing. All you have to do is jump in the pool of water near the bank, swim into the sewers and camp Cuburt for a few hours, nothing there is above level 5 so it's totally safe. Do this twice and you'll have 2 +3int earings.
Total, that's +16int at almost no expense, I think you might even make a profit on the Stein quest because one bartender gives you 4pp or something... but you burn lots of food running around and sitting in the sewer.

Legacy of Jewelcraft is just the in-game how-to book. Basically all it tells you to do is put the bar or metal and the gem into the jewelry kit and hit combine. There is no reason to purchase it.

All you need is the kit and materials. You should be able to buy the kit from the same vendors as the metal.
What about after 190?
# Sep 06 2000 at 8:09 PM Rating: Default
Hello, all -

Just wanted to know what the general opinion is concerning the best way to get from skill 190 to 200. I've gotten to 191 just by making platinum items for people, but my skill seems 'stuck'.

For the elite few who have mastered the 200 skill...what item combos did you use to get there?

Thanks!
RE: What about after 190?
# Sep 20 2000 at 11:31 AM Rating: Default
The skill goes real slow after 190, but I have gotten mine up to 197 using gold star ruby, and that doesnt go trivial until 199. After that I would start using plat cats eye agate.
RE: What about after 190?
# Jan 04 2001 at 2:52 AM Rating: Default
This is incorrect.

After gold star ruby, to gold fire emerald to 202, then gold sapphire to 204...then on to plat.

Jewels seem to be a very common drop almost anywhere in Kunark, at least on lvl 25+ mobs. They tend to drop Pearls through Opals and Black Pearls. This is of course an easy way to get free jewels. If, however, someone else in your group gets a jewel, buy! it from them. There is a small range in between the price a merchant will buy a gem for and the price they will sell it for. Buy the gem for some value in this range and you will pay less than you would to a merchant and the other player will receive more than they would get from a merchant, a win-win situation. Oftentimes, they will be generous and offer it for free (although I generally pay them at least some money because many times I think they just don't realize the value of the gem). I always carry money around in Kunark just for this purpose and have saved quite a bit of money buying gems off players this way. If you're exceptionally thrifty you can probably extend this beyond your group to the whole zone and be a gem merchant of sorts.

It is stackable and though I have yet to aquire one myself, as soon as I get my hands on one I am gonna give it a whirl with some silver electrum and gold tests, maybe even a plat try just to round out the field.

Expensive

If you get into this trade skill dont back out because it has its ups and downs its ups it can raise your stats and protections its downs it is expensive the ruby alone, which can make a veil which has good stats for non pure casters (druids, clerics, etc.), costs 134pp but can be sold, if its enchanted, for 175pp a 41pp profit so either work in it fully or not at all
Charisma in Trade Skills

Everyone needs charisma! If you are performing a trade skill that requires you to buy from or sell to a vendor then you NEED to get enough charisma gear to get your cha over 103. The cheapest charisma gear thats not too hard to get, where to get it, and probable prices with (pp/cha), are:

Mystic Doll, Feerrott, 3 cha, Free (0)
Medal of Merit, Qeynos, 5 cha, Free (0)
Silver Cats Eye Necklace, Jeweler, 3 cha, 1.5pp (.5)
Silk Evening Tunic, Qeynos, 5 cha, 5pp (1)
Crude Stein, Feerrott, 15 cha, 30pp (2)
Electrum Cats Eye Bracelet, Jeweler, 4 cha, 8pp (2)
Golden Cats Eye Bracelet, Jeweler, 7 cha, 26pp (4)
Splitpaw Tooth Necklace, SK/Paw, 5 cha, 25pp (5)
Opalline Earring, Unrest, 5 cha, 30pp (6)
Electrum Star Ruby Ring, Jeweler, 7 cha, 128pp (18)

That is more than enough gear to get anyone with a base charisma of 40 to 103 for optimal prices, so anyone can leave out the expensive or harder to get gear.
As an example of what this will do, if you fletch from 1 to 100 skill selling arrows back to the vendor, you will spend approximately DOUBLE the money at 60 charisma that you would at 103.
RE: Charisma in Trade Skills
# Aug 23 2000 at 4:18 PM Rating: Default
Silk Evening tunics are sold by a female vendor in South Qeynos near the docks. They are a chest item, cost aroun 6 p, and give a 5 Charisma bonus. Keep your charisma stuff handy and put it on when you sell, no need to abandon armor for it all the time. Just don't go fighting in your Evening tunic.

There are actually several creatures that drop jewels usable in jewelrycrafting. Some examples of these are Pixie Tricksters, Harpies, Earth Elementals, Aviak Avocets. Keep an eye out for which creatures drop jewels and what "level" jewels they drop. This way you may be able to kill MOBs for the jewels instead of actually having to spend money for them, and if you are lucky the MOBs that drop the jewels you are currently working on will also give you experience.

If you are a int based Jewelrycrafter Try and get your INT as high as possible, It makes a Huge difference, dont stop at 200 try and get it higher, it will enable you to raise your skill much much faster. Especially when you try to go from skill 192 to 200, Int over 200, (I got my int up to 222 when I went to 200 skill) will raise your skill much fater than if it is lower even at 200 int its real slow. Many more attempts need to be made. So remmember RAISE YOUR INT

Wisdom - The urban legend
# Aug 17 2000 at 6:47 PM Rating: Decent
Contrary to the VERY popular belief that wisdom has any effect on trade skills. It does NOT.

I got this straight from GZ's mouth at the last EQ gatherings. Me and a nother enchanter asked him directly if Wisdom effects the success ratio of Jewlery or any other trade skill. His response was, (this is paraphrased, not exact)

"To the best of my knowledge, wisdom has no effect on the success, it is purly based on the skill ability and intelligence determines the rate at which that ability increases."

He went on to say that he was not the one that designed trade skills, but in asking other Verant employees, they all agreed with GZ's statement about wisdom having no effect on trade skill sussesses.

Now, that said, I still know people that don Wis+ gear if their skill is maxxed (200) but just so you know, it dosen't make a difference.

I also heard from a chanter that tests had been done by people with artificially lowered wisdom (single digits) and they had the same success rates as normal or even high wisdom characters.

Some Stuff to Know
# Aug 17 2000 at 3:03 PM Rating: Decent
The Best Class to use this skill with would be the Enchanter. At the Right level he can Breeze himself so Casting Enchant Silver doesnt take so long to make just 10 Bars.
Also Making Jewelry is the Most Expensive yet most promising and Rewarding skill.
Think for a minute how many people need their stats increased such as a Warrior who put all his points into Strength but now he needs Dexterity he is too slow.
So you ask him "Well what kind of jewelry do you need a Bracelet, Ring, Earring, or Veil. He tells you what he needs you buy the items and Combine them "Failure".
Ok so you failed When Enchanters Give out Jewelry prices they need to include the Failure Factor.
And you have to expect unless that Jewelry item is trivial that you will fail at least once.
The more expensive the Jewel the Higher Skill you have to be to create it.
Example: Amber is Trivial at 25 so That means say Opal is Trivial at 40.
And if your lucky you could even make a Silver Star Ruby Veil with a skill of just 30 but it is not Recommended to try it.
Seeing as Star Rubies cost around 70pp with a Charisma of 120.
My point is start low and work your way up if you dont want to fail all the time. And dont start making jewelry unless you've put at least 5 practice points into it.
Now as for it Being Expensive what you do is Auction "Crafting Jewelry upon your Order Give tells with orders" and see what the people in the zone order most.
In Greater Faydark the most Promising Jewelry is Either Wisdom or Intelligence items. Seeing as Both Wisdom and Intelligence based caster reside in the zone.
Well that's all i can think of Hope i Helped out a little )

Id Say A good thing to do Before you Start Make Jewelry get your Charisma Quite high so you can almost break even when selling back to the vendor which can be useful in this trade considering that its the most expensive trade skill in the Game.
Hope That helped any!

In regards to CHARISMA, though my experience is not unlimited, from CHA of 100 to 160, prices stopped decreasing with ALL merchants. 60 points of added cha lowered the sapphire, for examine, from 108pp to 108pp and a glass of water from 1sp to 1sp. I hope that at some point it continues to decrease. Note... the Benevolence line will be very useful to you in addition to CHA as buying from a vendor that looks upon you apprehensively will seriously hurt.
